Incredibly cute roadside stop that's really worth your time. Really great for train enthusiasts especially because you can dine inside train cars! I'm sure kids would love it as well also because of the dinosaur side of the depot. They don't open up until a little bit later in the day mind you, but for earlier in the morning you can still go to their cafe in this incredibly beautiful old train station. Took our granddaughter today to see the dinosaurs. They didn't disappoint. So many to see. However she was so excited to eat at the Roadside Cafe but it was closed and the railroads cars were too. Such a shame to not utilize everything there! read more

A local doctor, Jeffrey Rice, has a hobby of collecting FULL SCALE train cars and refurbishing them into mini restaurants, a railroad museum, a place for an overnight stay and more. He calls his growing collection "The Depot at Doolittle's" - an 1880's B&O replica rail depot. My mom and I enjoyed our unique dining experience in the 1950's style Diner Car (a renovated Pullman standard passenger car). I had the Soft Shell Crab Po' Boy sandwich and she had the Lobster Bisque. Both were quite tasty. Morgan, our waitress, shared some history about the car and graciously snapped a few photos of mom and I sitting in our seats. For a more upscale meal, you might want to eat in the vintage, 1913 Parlor Car. Although we didn't eat in that car, we took a quick walk-through and marveled at the beautiful restoration of this antique marvel. Two cars that caught my attention were the newly acquired Barnum and Bailey Circus cars sitting up on the hillside. When the circus closed down in early 2017, Dr. Rice jumped at the opportunity to add these cars to his collection. It will be interesting to see what he has in store for them. Also on the grounds is Doolittle's Roadside Cafe. Judging by the number of people getting ice cream at the walk-up windows, I'd guess it must be pretty good. Unfortunately, I was too full from my meal that I didn't try the ice cream. I guess I'll save that for my next visit to Du Bois! read more

Stopped in with a party of four for the Irish meals on the Facebook page. While one girl ran in and out of the kitchen yelling DO I LOOK PREGNANT OH MY GOD I LOOK PREGNANT I'M SO BLOATED! The woman at the front desk changed her story from that post being from yesterday (it's not) to "that's in the fine dining car", to "you can get that at the bar (where they order food from the depot) we're closed!" (At 5:30PM on a Saturday before a holiday). So we left. We headed to Clarion unsure that we'll ever trust any part of Doolittle's again when they can't be taken at their word. read more

GIven all that I wasn't expecting anything special, but the lunch was great. Lots of locally sourced and sustainable, and crazy tasty. The Man had lobster bisque and a BLT and was quite happy. I had blue cheese burger that was juicy and oniony and fantastic. Home made slaw! Wine and beer and cocktails! Campy dinosaurs!! What a fun place! We ate in the Parlor Car and enjoyed it thoroughly. I had the lobster bisque (containing an entire lobster claw!), the steak with mashed potatoes and some grilled mushrooms. The entire meal was delicious and eating in the Pullman car is really fun. It's a nice atmosphere and the adjoining 1950's diner and the little shop at the front was very cute as well. Reviewing The Depot is a bit more involved than your normal Yelp review. First you need to take a look at the complex called Doolittles. Doolittles is the creation of local Dr. Jeffrey Rice. He obviously is a train buff. We learned from the one from one of the staff at the Boxcar Brew Works Dr. Rice does a lot of work in third world countries including the building of a hospital. Portions of the proceeds from Doolittles goes to his work. Doolittles complex currently contains lodging in rail cars, entertainment, microbrewery, restaurants, creamery, Party Barn, and The Little Caring Caboose. The Caring Caboose is a converted caboose set up for private family dining with special needs. Food is prepared by The Depot. The Depot. If you look at the reviews the most recent reviews are more reflective of what you would expect from The Depot today. I would not put a lot into the early reviews. We ordered on the Dinning Car menu. Let me explain - our first stop at the Doolittles was The Boxcar Brew Works. A microbrewery in a, yes you guessed it, converted rail car. Five stars sums up the Boxcar Brew Works. A must try. While enjoying the Boxcar we were informed we could order food off their menu OR call in an order from The Depot and the staff would bring it up to the Boxcar. Really. That is what we did without any complications. We had two of the best burgers we have had for a long time paired with some great brews. The Bison burger and the Umami burger. We both had the Kale Creaser salad which was amazing. Did I mention locally sourced product? Freshness counts. We anxiously await out next trip to Doolittles. The Parlor Car for some finer dining will be the next try for us. read more

Don't miss this treasure off of route 80. The fine dining on Friday and Saturday night is incredible. We were seated in a restored 1913 parlor car. I started with the lobster bisque which was outstanding. Then moved on to the strip steak medium rare which was cooked exactly as ordered and it was plated with some small potatoes. My wife had the rib eye which was also done exactly as she ordered it and she loved every bite. Perfect amount of food and I can say one of the best meals I've had. Our waitress Laurie took great care of us as well. Do yourself a favor and stop here. read more

Railcar Pizza. Definitely the best pizza around. Wood fired pizzas are all one size. We spent around $10 for one pizza and drinks. We should've gotten two pizzas for my two kids and I, as they are smaller. Such a cool and unique place with mini golf, laser tag and other dining options in different train cars. If it wasn't for this place and RJ along with Tara the chef this whole Groundhog Day event thing would have been a bust! We were fortunate enough to stay on the beautiful newly renovated 1901 train here. It's absolutely amazing and you feel like you're royalty. It's a piece of history too. If I'm ever in that area again I just hope we can reserve this place again. The food is pretty good too! Highly recommend... and did I mention they have dinosaurs?! My sister has rented the Party Barn in the back for birthday parties and our mommy group. The play space is great for the kids. There is plenty of room for us moms to relax and talk while the kids enjoy themselves. The snack bar is so convenient and affordable. There aren't many good places to eat in DuBois, but this place has very good service and very good food. I especially like their burgers, but everything I've had on the menu has been good. They also have fresh fish on Friday's that is really nice. It's a small space in a diner car, so sometimes can get busy and crowded, and also is not the best place for a larger party, but it's a fun atmosphere. Highly recommend! read more

I really enjoyed this old train car diner. I enjoy the 50's music they sometimes play. Last time I went it was crappy pop music.. They have a small focused menu that is just right and not over complicated. I tried the fish sandwich and burger which were both very large and very good. I had the slaw with it which Great. I wish they had the fried chicken ever. It must be popular because both times I have gone they were out. The atmosphere of this place I loved. I will come back here probably again and again. The Depot makes great food and the environment is soooo cool. It's a very unique place that rivals the fine dining I've experienced in bigger cities. Wandered into a lovely gallery in Dubois, PA and found a card for this restaurant, so we wandered over there. It's a wondrous setting with fabulous food. Lobster bisque with true lobster flavor, creamy buttery background, small pieces of lobster - delectable. True caesar salad - fresh garlic, lemon juice and oil dressing with grated parmesan - was delicious and satisfying (not the thick, gooey junk found at many restaurants). The turkey reuben and the beet burger with feta were both yummy. Service was efficient and friendly. The chef came out soon after we arrived to make sure we were taken care of. This is a very unique restaurant they have train cars you can eat in a 50's diner car and a elegant parlour car for that special dinner. What a huge surprise and delicious treat at this hidden gem. Hubby and I decided on The Depot to stop in for a late lunch on our way from Erie to Hershey. We ate in the Diner Car, one of the many authentic old railroad cars onsite, and the food was fabulous as was the service thanks to our waitress Morgan. We started with their duck fat fries...to die for. Then we each had their burger entry in the James Beard Foundation Blended Burger Project, which became for my burger-obsessed husband "the best I've ever had." I added a kale Caesar salad on the side and he got a milk shake. We really had no room for anything else despite wanting for more since the food could rival any upscale NYC restaurant. The owner has a fascination with trains and there are several old railroad cars on the property... one is Teddy Roosevelt's original dining/sleeper car, which we were lucky enough to get a private tour of thanks to restaurant manager Todd. Highly recommend this place for the food but it's also a fun stop for train buffs. They are in the midst of creating a little railway B&B village, which we would be very happy to stay at once completed. read more

I just had an amazing dinner at the Depot Parlor car. The fresh wild mushrooms were heavenly, roasted Brussel Sprouts were perfect the best I have even eaten in life. The main dishes were all simply perfect the filet mignon cooked perfect with creamed spinach-yummy,Pumpkin lasagna was so good and was baked in a cute pumpkin. We tried so many dishes it all was top quality such an amazing place what a nice addition to the area. BYOB so remember to bring your favorite wine to enjoy with an amazing dinner. We have come to Dubois every year my whole life because my grandma lives here. We always had trouble finding anything good to eat but are so grateful that's all changed now! The Depot at Doolittle's has really excellent food at very reasonable prices and the desserts are off the charts! Especially the Key Lime Pie was probably the best Any of us have ever had and has inspired us to try to make our own back home. This place makes us want to visit Dubois more often! read more

Visited for our anniversary. Was met at the door and given a great overview of the complex. As we walked to our table, we were given a great historical overview of the car we were eating in. Very classy and fascinating. Now to the waitress and food. Our waitress was wonderful. Her recommendations were on spot. The Lobster bisque she recommended was extraordinary! Flavorful and filling. We both had steaks (filet and porterhouse). Both were delicious and cooked as we asked. Vegetables were cooked to perfection. Dessert (lava cake) was excellent as well.
