Stopped in to check out this roadside cafe serving up beeftastic open faced hot roast beef sandwiches with nice thick cut potato bread and mashed potatoes. The gravy coated everything nicely in a beefy bath and had the right amount of salt. The Pecan Dolphin Salad was good but don't expect fresh Mahi Mahi off the pier Day-boat. Nuff said. A side of homemade potato salad offered traditional, non-sweet mayo/mustard dressing and firm potatoes. Perfect for a pre-hike brunch in Cooks Forest. Their iced tea is killer fresh too! Plenty of parking and nice deck. The service was outstanding!

Turkey Dinner- so darn good!

I just had my first experience at The Forest Nook- and what a pleasant surprise it was! Although it was a busy holiday weekend, we were seated quickly and our orders were taken promptly. Service was very attentive and friendly and we were told everything on the menu was made from scratch in house. Now- on to the food! The menu has a lot of variety to offer without being overwhelming. The guys ordered a cheese pizza, and I ordered the turkey dinner. Again, despite the busy afternoon, our food came very promptly and was hot and fresh. The pizza looked good- though I didn't have any I can say that the boys enjoyed it. My turkey dinner was just delicious- fresh carved turkey, real mashed potatoes, homemade cranberry relish, fresh stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes and corn! Honestly the best turkey dinner (outside of my mom's Thanksgiving dinner!) I have ever had. There was a nice selection of homemade desserts on the menu, but we were too full to try any. I'm a little sad I didn't think to get a few to go. But now I have something new to look forward to for the next visit!

I may love camping and I can certainly rough it with the best, but I do not consider a salad to be iceburg lettuce with 14 pounds of ranch dressing.

We went for the breakfast buffet. The restaurant is in the center of The Shiloh Resort campground. When we arrived (Saturday @ 11:00 am) there was an empty parking lot and only one other table seated. Now I was a little worried. Mid July and only one other table, what gives? I am normally the one to try and support mom and pops but I was a little apprehensive. We decided to take a chance at $6.95 it was worth a shot. And I am so glad we did. Mama Doe greeted us immediately with a warm smile. Everyone was very attentive. I loved the fact that they didn't load up the buffet pans to let items sit. Everything came out fresh. The Buffet Scrambled eggs or scrambled eggs with peppers onion cheese and tomato (and a hint of curry if I'm not mistaken), those eggs were delicious. Next sliced potato home fries with onion, perfectly browned. Thin sliced bacon (I like mine thicker, but it was ok) and savory sausage links browned to perfection). Thick sliced French toast, this was sweet with a touch of nutmeg I believe. I hope I am not giving away Mama Doe's secrets. Pancakes were light and fluffy. The biscuits were fresh and warm. The sausage gravy was ok, I prefer crumbled sausage. After breakfast, we struck up a conversation with Ray and Doe and the other patrons. Ray & Doe told us about the history of the resort. Then offered a tour of the place. It is a beautiful campground with a chapel, restaurant, main lodge, cabins, and camping areas. Right between Cook Forest State Park and Clear Creek State Park. I know we will be visiting again.

I've been coming here for years and I look forward to the trip each time. Delicious Italian food,…read morebest pies in the forest, and a wonderful breakfast menu are just the beginning. If you have a chance to talk to the owners you'll find what a sweet couple they are. Note: the restaurant is not always open Monday and Tuesday, so check hours before you go. But if you go, prepare to have a wonderful meal! It's off the beaten path, and to me, adds to the charm of Cook Forest as a whole.
