I have nothing but positive things to say about this academy. The students were all welcoming and friendly and the instructor (John) did an excellent job breaking down technique and also explaining why the technique should be used. What I thought was really cool was that the class instruction was based around some things John had noticed from other competitors at a recent competition. He broke down what he was seeing and taught solutions to techniques that were being used. The skill level of the various belts was on par if not higher than many of the academies I have trained at along the west coast. There is a misconception that 'not a lot of jiujitsu gets in and out of middle America' and I can reassure that this is clearly not the case at Tipping Point. These guys are tough! I had a lot of fun training here and will absolutely visit again the next time I'm in town.

Today was Heat level 2 and I was graciously reminded by my heart and lungs that this is a practice and I have much to learn. Facts as I see them about this studio (Cedar Rapids): -The Teachers love what they do! -The fragrances or aromatherapy that are utilized in this studio are subtle which is a nice touch without being overwhelming. -The heat disbursement in the studio is very even. I've been in studios where that is not the case. I feel like every spot is a good one! -The Sanitation is great and there are ample spray bottles. My Inner GI Jane was handed to me today, and for that I'm thankful. I come to my yoga mat to learn how to balance my life, my body, and my spirit. I'm thankful for Heat Yoga as I continue in my practice.

Joined for lap swimming. When pool is open, it's usually almost perfect. BUT (and this is a big…read more"BUT") management of the pool schedule is bad. Hours for lap swim posted on their website are usually not correct as pool is not open when hours posted say it is. Was told by front desk people their website is not accurate and I should only use their new 'app' to check hours. So I loaded app and have used that to check pool lap swim hours. Tried to swim on weekday last week. Checked app 2 hours prior and said lap swim open 1:00-5:00 pm. Arrived at 2:10, changed and got to pool deck at 2:15 only to be told "We are closing for 30 minutes from 2:30 to 3:00 today." Today, a Sunday, at 9:00 a.m. app says pool open for lap swim from 10:00-1:00 pm. Arrived at 11:00 only to find out pool is closed due to swim team practice. they are "very sorry" for my inconvenience. This has happened 4 or 5 times in past month. Frustrating to plan my day/week, drive to the YMCA, and show up only to find out pool is not available. Seems like this is happening more and more often in past 5-6 weeks. If only we could know when pool will be available for lap swim. Seems like this should not be that hard to do. Put someone in charge of schedule and posting updates. And, once hours posted, stick to that schedule.

I would recommend MAC Xpress in Fairfax. Although it's small, it's a nice local gym. They have…read morejust about everything you need, and they definitely keep it nice and reinvest with new equipment from time to time. No classes that I am aware of, but it's not that kind of gym. It's not too crowded, and it's open 24-7. If you are a MAC member you can go here, or any other facility which is a nice benefit too. The only downside is that they don't have lockers, but otherwise I have been very happy coming here when I want to swing in for a quick workout in a comfortable environment.

Staff is UBER friendly, supporting, warm, and caring. I volunteered here in 2003 and owner Sue Bock is AMAZING! Additionally, Joyce is also awesome, although I don't know if either of them are still regulars. Wonderful memories were created here! Great, great place! Horses are super friendly, fields are huge, great facilities, again staff is AMAZING. Learned tack and some riding. Went back to visit in 2005/2006. Would definitely stop in next time I'm in town!
