I was traveling and wanted a week gym membership. This place offered a 45$ week pass or a $20 a day or $90 a month. There were some places offering $10 a day pass but didn't have a sauna or steam room. This place had both plus an ice room. Which was more like a really high air conditioning room. Nothing like serious cold. They also had a pool which seemed like only a bunch of old people use. The training area with turf was really nice but if that stop light is red (I posted a picture) that means the trainer is there with a client and you're not allowed. If it's orange you are allowed but to be careful and green it's a free for all. Not many people use it but it has bunch of cool equipment to use there too. The gym had everything and I was only able to find one thing broken which is rare at a gym this big. They also have one of those dryers for your bathing suits in the mens locker room if you do bring a bathing suit for sauna or pool. It's a bring your own towel like most gyms but for such a high gym membership I thought they may include that but nothing I could really complain about this gym except pricing. read more

I've been back and forth with my freezing and trainer payments with the front desk staff to no avail! I call and get promised a call back but nothing. I emailed their general service email and still nothing. My trainer Sam was awesome. The facilities are good and offerings were what I needed but getting someone to help you if modifications need to happen is an act of god! Do yourself a favor and just pay the money to cancel it all because no one will help you. Zero stars for customer service. read more

I had the pleasure of getting the opportunity to visit the MAC to workout while in town visiting for the weekend. This place is amazing! The best of the best in this town! There is so much equipment to use! I loved how there was equipment available to use! (Compared to the gym I go to back in Orlando where I have to wait a while to use some equipment because of the younger crowd hogging it) The treadmills are so cool! Love the wireless charging and ability to pick what I would like to watch on the screen. The equipment and weights are all newer and well kept. It's nice and bright inside. They have so much to offer! I am really jealous this isn't my gym back in Orlando. They have cycling classes, HIIT classes, and many others. There is also a pool and hot tub. The sauna was so relaxing. They have a wet sauna and a dry sauna. There is this neat machine that will spin your swim suit to get the water out of it. The locker room is massive and has space to get ready for work. What's also impressive is there is a separate workout room just for women!!! So a woman can workout and not feel uncomfortable for whatever reason. They do have a kids room! So you can bring a kid and still get your workout on! There is a Hair Venue and a place to get a nice drink or coffee. Overall this place rocks! Hours were 5am to 9pm during the week and the weekends the hours are 7am to 4pm. When I come back to Cedar Rapids to visit, I will certainly make this my place to workout even if it is just for a day or two. read more

I was an Olympian many years ago, and fitness is very important to me where I travel. I get back to Iowa to visit family about once/year. I bought a 10 visit, $100 punch card several years ago to use when I'm in town so i can work out. This trip back to Iowa they said it is invalid and they wouldn't honor the 7 visits I still had left. Misleading during a time of uncertainty and chaos (COVID-19 pandemic). Sent out an email to all members providing them options to either 1) continue their memberships, 2) freeze memberships or 3) cancel memberships. Choosing to cancel mine, I contacted info@the-mac.com only to be charged the early termination fee which was over $129 + tax and which was not mentioned in the email. I'm sure it was buried in the fine print when I signed the membership agreement over a year ago but this wasn't communicated to me and it would have been a much better customer experience if they would have been upfront about it. This is my only negative experience with them personally, but I've also heard negative experiences from other friends in the area. read more

Potential new members beware. If you are a lap swimmer, this place offers nothing pleasant. The pool is too small. The water is high in metals resulting in cloudiness. The pool walls and bottom are severely stained by Iron and Copper. You will step in piles of black glass like sand, and there is always a thick cruddy layer of biofilm from dirty swimmers that lingers on the tiles. The people that work here are not friendly(mostly- there are some people that work in the kid's club that are nice). Generally, they stand around and talk to each other- super unprofessional. I wish there were 24 Hour Fitnesses in Iowa, so that I wouldn't be stuck going to the MAC. read more

If my employer didn't provide a discount for this place, I would not be a member at their normal price. The cost of membership is incongruent with the quality of the facility. Cleanliness was middle of the road. Things were generally clean, but some of the rules were not enforced. In particular, the ones prohibiting shaving in and requiring users to rinse off before using the men's stream room were ignored. During the day, cleaning staff would stretch chords across the floor for unreasonable distances, creating a tripping hazard. There are plenty of outlets that would have prevented that. Positively, they updated many of the machines and purchased new bars in the recent past, indicating that they spend the upgrade fee on actual upgrades. Staff are friendly, and the facility is always opened in the morning about 15 minutes before the actual posted time on the door. Note: Be aware when you sign your contract that you are not signing it with The MAC, you are signing it with the payment processing service. They will require a 45 day written notice for cancellation, regardless of the reason. read more

The ad in the paper says "EveryBody" can work out for free. Turns out that's not the case and they absolutely refused to honor their ad. On top of that the lady at the front desk refused to let me talk to her manager. I heard "corporate policy" multiple times and never once felt any desire to provide customer service. read more

It must be because I'm from the East Coast, but I was shocked at the size of this MAC...Big... They have every machine you could want to sweat on top of. They have a pool, a spin studio, steam room, sauna, lockers, showers, AND a smoothie bar. They do have a few 11-year-olds working the front counter, so some times communication is impeded, but eventually they figure out what you are saying and take your money. The spin classes were fine, but they played Ace of Base, and not in a wasn't-this-funny-in-Pitch-Perfect kind of way. read more

"South" - 1220 Jacolyn Dr SW, Cedar Rapids. My review is of the "Xtreme" location: $49/mo dues after normal $199 membership fee. I paid $1 fee in May while on 2 month special. I am not a body builder by any means, just someone trying to get and stay fit, having to avoid the occupational hazard of working behind a desk all day. While not like a 5-star 24-Hour Fitness big city gym with many other amenities, I feel this rates 4-5 stars for Cedar Rapids, as in addition to a nice complement of free weight, circuit & cardio-fitness equipment, there is a basketball court, racquetball, outdoor track, a large pool, jacuzzi, steam room & sauna. Well maintained & clean locker/shower rooms with towels provided. Hand towels and antibacterial sprays are adjacent to all the equipment; everyone sprays and swipes after using the equipment to keep it clean, a nice touch. There are about a dozen personal trainers available on staff, on-site child care, a variety of group exercise classes, water aerobics, massage therapy, and more. You can tune in with a personal FM radio to a number of locally broadcast TV shows on widescreen TVs while exercising. I started with a trainer (Calvin) who was a former body builder and at one time also worked at the Cooper Aerobic Institute in Dallas and helped me with targeted exercises to resolve back & neck muscle knots that worked right away. All in all, a good value for an economical monthly price. read more

The barre class is very fun and the instructor is nice and helpful. Cardio dance is good too.

I love this gym. The staff are always kind and the amenities are great. The basketball court could use a wax (its often dusty), and I wish there were towels available for the general locker room as well as the executive one, but I rarely forget my towel. The juice bar is ok. I was a member about a year ago and remember them tasting a lot better, but maybe these are healthier. Other than that, this place has everything you can ask for, and everything you need. read more

I been coming here for three years. Love the atmosphere, the gym itself is very clean unlike most gyms. The M.A.C changed my life. When I stared here I weighed over 300lbs now I weigh 220, yeah it's just but how my body looks has people that knew me for a while are like wow and asks for tips. The Mac is whack! They are a corporate business, and this is what they'll value over customer service. They do not explain their 45 day cancelation policy upfront, even though I had asked about it when joining. Once you cancel, you still pay all dues for 45 days, including the yearly "enhancement fee", which is just code for another way they can take more $$ from you. So I was charged this fee for the year, on top of my monthly dues, even though my membership is canceled in 2 weeks. They are collecting over $150 from me just during the cancelation process! There are better gyms to choose from in this town. Don't waste your time and $$ at The Mac! read more

Love this gym. It has a basketball court, raquetball courts, pool, weight lifting equipment, several treadmills and elipticals. Lots of eqipment some new, some old. They offer a big variety of classes also. I do love the fact that they have a women's only area that is right off of the women's locker room. So if you want to work out with just the girls, you don't even have to walk through the gym to get there! Locker rooms and showers are kept clean. read more

I complained about something their customer service is not personable they expected me to pay 45 days more on a membership i had for my son whom used it 2x 2 months before I went to take him off. Overall this facility has w multitude of workout equipment, including rowing machines which I'm impartial to. Clean facilities and plenty to offer. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was the fact that a walk in fee was 20.00; which I thought was a bit ridiculous. read more

The only reason I have stayed with this gym is one great trainer and all the great members I have met and become friends. The main gym on Tama is always in need of repairs (worn out and stretched carpet and hinges on locker doors), floors and bottoms of lockers are always dirty in winter, and the pool is totally discussing. I can't imagine how the health department has not shut them down. read more

I'd rather work out in my living room. Gym personnel are like sleazy salesmen & talk low blows to make you keep your membership. From what I hear & what my husband & I have experienced, the owner of this place is a scumbag & will do anything to cut corners & pad his pockets.
