    Gym Equipment
    Kera P.

I had the pleasure of getting the opportunity to visit the MAC to workout while in town visiting for the weekend. This place is amazing! The best of the best in this town! There is so much equipment to use! I loved how there was equipment available to use! (Compared to the gym I go to back in Orlando where I have to wait a while to use some equipment because of the younger crowd hogging it) The treadmills are so cool! Love the wireless charging and ability to pick what I would like to watch on the screen. The equipment and weights are all newer and well kept. It's nice and bright inside. They have so much to offer! I am really jealous this isn't my gym back in Orlando. They have cycling classes, HIIT classes, and many others. There is also a pool and hot tub. The sauna was so relaxing. They have a wet sauna and a dry sauna. There is this neat machine that will spin your swim suit to get the water out of it. The locker room is massive and has space to get ready for work. What's also impressive is there is a separate workout room just for women!!! So a woman can workout and not feel uncomfortable for whatever reason. They do have a kids room! So you can bring a kid and still get your workout on! There is a Hair Venue and a place to get a nice drink or coffee. Overall this place rocks! Hours were 5am to 9pm during the week and the weekends the hours are 7am to 4pm. When I come back to Cedar Rapids to visit, I will certainly make this my place to workout even if it is just for a day or two.

Pictures of disgusting state of the pool - M.A.C. Extreme. Owners/ management have been confronted - communicated that pool is not priority

Potential new members beware. If you are a lap swimmer, this place offers nothing pleasant. The pool is too small. The water is high in metals resulting in cloudiness. The pool walls and bottom are severely stained by Iron and Copper. You will step in piles of black glass like sand, and there is always a thick cruddy layer of biofilm from dirty swimmers that lingers on the tiles. The owners and management refuse to keep pool clean in consistent manner. See the attached pictures. If you don't believe me, go for a swim there just one time and see for yourself!

False Advertising is in this photo!

The ad in the paper says "EveryBody" can work out for free. Turns out that's not the case and they absolutely refused to honor their ad. On top of that the lady at the front desk refused to let me talk to her manager. I heard "corporate policy" multiple times and never once felt any desire to provide customer service.

The MAC Xtreme - 4700 Tama St SE behind Carlos O'Kelly's restaurant

"The MAC" - www.the-mac.net - 3 locations (ignore above old address) "Xtreme" - largest near CR/Marion city limits, behind Carlos O'Kellys. 4700 Tama St SE, (319) 377-7758 "Xpress" - new, open 24/7 at 2252 Blairs Ferry Road in Hiawatha. "South" - 1220 Jacolyn Dr SW, Cedar Rapids. My review is of the "Xtreme" location: $49/mo dues after normal $199 membership fee. I paid $1 fee in May while on 2 month special. I am not a body builder by any means, just someone trying to get and stay fit, having to avoid the occupational hazard of working behind a desk all day. While not like a 5-star 24-Hour Fitness big city gym with many other amenities, I feel this rates 4-5 stars for Cedar Rapids, as in addition to a nice complement of free weight, circuit & cardio-fitness equipment, there is a basketball court, racquetball, outdoor track, a large pool, jacuzzi, steam room & sauna. Well maintained & clean locker/shower rooms with towels provided. Hand towels and antibacterial sprays are adjacent to all the equipment; everyone sprays and swipes after using the equipment to keep it clean, a nice touch. There are about a dozen personal trainers available on staff, on-site child care, a variety of group exercise classes, water aerobics, massage therapy, and more. You can tune in with a personal FM radio to a number of locally broadcast TV shows on widescreen TVs while exercising. I started with a trainer (Calvin) who was a former body builder and at one time also worked at the Cooper Aerobic Institute in Dallas and helped me with targeted exercises to resolve back & neck muscle knots that worked right away. All in all, a good value for an economical monthly price.

Madison, at the front desk at Tama Street location, restored my faith in professional and friendly service!

They have everything you'd ever need. It's clean and never crowded. Worth it for sure.

I was contacted, told it slipped through the cracks and provided a refund. Overall had been a good gym to me for years.

As previous review says, 24/7 access. Been to many gyms in the nation, and by far Anvil has the best strongman and powerlifting equipment to any gym Ive been to. Also caters to general fitness as well. For anyone looking for trainers, there are strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding and atheltic/sports trainers available. Recent additions to the gym include a infared sauna and a smith machine. Day passes are available, and a quick tour is available per request for anyone looking to check it out. Joined for lap swimming. When pool is open, it's usually almost perfect. BUT (and this is a big…read more"BUT") management of the pool schedule is bad. Hours for lap swim posted on their website are usually not correct as pool is not open when hours posted say it is. Was told by front desk people their website is not accurate and I should only use their new 'app' to check hours. So I loaded app and have used that to check pool lap swim hours. Tried to swim on weekday last week. Checked app 2 hours prior and said lap swim open 1:00-5:00 pm. Arrived at 2:10, changed and got to pool deck at 2:15 only to be told "We are closing for 30 minutes from 2:30 to 3:00 today." Today, a Sunday, at 9:00 a.m. app says pool open for lap swim from 10:00-1:00 pm. Arrived at 11:00 only to find out pool is closed due to swim team practice. they are "very sorry" for my inconvenience. This has happened 4 or 5 times in past month. Frustrating to plan my day/week, drive to the YMCA, and show up only to find out pool is not available. Seems like this is happening more and more often in past 5-6 weeks. If only we could know when pool will be available for lap swim. Seems like this should not be that hard to do. Put someone in charge of schedule and posting updates. And, once hours posted, stick to that schedule.
