Yesterday evening March 16, 2020 at 8:36pm I visited this building. There was a security guy, who opened the door for me with "nice" style - pushing the door handle from inside with his foot! When I was leaving the building I told him: "So you opened the door with your dirty boot and now I have to open it with my clean hand." He began to laugh loudly HA-HA-HA-HA! I said: "It is not funny, it is wrong!" After that he came very close to me, trying to scare, and said right in to my face: "Get the f*ck out, bitch!" Very "nice" employees work here. Better not to touch anything in this building, but even better to avoid it at all times. read more

Loved living here. Everything was smooth. My only complaint was getting my car broken into. Other then that I was a happy to be there. Jaime the assistant manager is kickass. I recently moved in 5months ago and what sold me was the atmosphere around the apartment complex, the view to the beach with a balcony, pool, the pet friendly environment (I have 2cats), it's always clean, it's very professional and pleasant, underground parking access, walking distance to cafes, Starbucks, convenient stores, restaurants and bars! Ugh I love it here! Definitely an upgrade from my small apartment I had in North Long Beach! Jamies guidance to move in made it easy. Everyone at the office is pretty sweet and helpful! Best apartment complex I have ever lived in. The customer service is stellar, location is great, and they have always helped us out with requests (maintenance, etc.). You can use the rooftop for events and they do neat perks about once a week or so for residents. Highly recommended. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. Management will say what they need to say to get you to sign the leases. Staff is immature, fraternization with tenants, you pay the money to live here for accessible maintenance repairs, safe secure property, clean premises and customer service that should justify the rent cost. None of these apply here. Many other buildings in Long Beach that are cleaner and worth $2500+ rent. read more

NOT ENOUGH RESIDENT PARKING. This building is nice and you get some nice perks living a nicely located building. But what kills it - insufficient parking. Especially during big events like LB Grand Prix, you need to be homebound. The developers did a horrible job of planning and caring for all its residents parking needs. Every time you go out , you worry about being able to find parking when you get back. So unless, you can afford a 2 bedroom ( studios and 1 bed get only 1 dedicated space) ...you are often SOL. Soon a 2nd tower is to be built - what will happen to parking situation then ? read more

Pros: The building itself is nice, and the location is great- walking distance from The Pike and 2nd Street, and lots of other great shops and restaurants in Long Beach. Access to the 710 freeway is also really convenient, which is important for commuters. CONS: Parking is TERRIBLE. This may be true of any downtown location, but it seems to be especially difficult at The Current. Tenants in 1 bedroom apartments only receive 1 parking spot, and the other tenant in the apartment has to park outside in an unassigned spot. Typically this would be fine, but a significant portion of the spots are taken up by Starbucks customers (there's a Starbucks in the bottom floor of the building), and Wednesdays are even worse, when half the parking lot is taken up by food trucks and their customers. I've emailed the apartment staff and management company numerous times about the parking situation, but the repeated response is that there's nothing they can do. While both the management tout both the Starbucks and food trucks as great resident amenities, they actually cause much more harm than good. The Starbucks and food truck customers take up all of the parking spots, which causes residents to have to drive around looking for street parking at their own building. Unfortunately, one of the only reasons we chose to rent at The Current (as opposed to all the other buildings we looked at in Long Beach) is because we were promised that parking spots for both of us would be "no problem." Since about the third week after we moved in, this has not been the case. Another thing you should be aware of is that all residents have to pay to sign up for a service called "Parcel Pending." I've lived at previous properties that utilized this service, but the service was always provided free of charge, or the cost was already included in the rent at the time of signing the lease. The Current charges residents a $20 signup fee, plus $3.99/month to receive any packages. We were not informed at the time we moved in that this would be a required fee, but instead it was imposed 2-3 months after we had been living here. The fee itself is minor, but we've lived in 2 buildings prior to this one that simply provided Parcel Pending as a free service, or included it as part of the rent. In my opinion, suddenly telling residents that they can no longer receive ANY packages unless they sign up for this mandatory service tends to put people off. If they had offered it free of charge or included it in the rent, it probably wouldn't have been an issue. Ultimately, I've found the management here to be completely unsympathetic and unreceptive to legitimate resident complaints and issues. Unless you live alone or don't drive, I would seriously reconsider living here. Unless something changes dramatically, we'll be moving out as soon as our lease ends. It's just not worth coming home from a long day at work, fighting traffic, to spend another 20 minutes trying to look for street parking every night. read more

I've lived in DTLB for the past 5 years now and this will be the third apartment I've moved into in the area within that time! I'm so glad I did the move because everything that was lacking at the other places were made up for here! Denisse helped me out through the entire process and made it the simplest possible! Friendly, extremely helpful, and even helped me with any small questions I had along the way! Most of our interaction was throughout email and in person when I popped in to view the available spaces! This was so convenient, emailing back and forth in between work and every day duties we all have! She didn't make anything harder than it had to be! Security absolutely makes you feel safe and just less than likely to come across any mishaps that would happen at other buildings I've been in! They get parking sorted pretty quickly from what it looks like everyone promised a space gets one in a timely matter! Even though it is down town, there's plenty of parking around the building for guests! Still new here but absolutely no complaints on my end! read more

TO THE CURRENT: I decided against the community, and here are my reasons: (1) Both times I was there the pool/recreation room was reserved for a private party. Once during the week (which is kind of reasonable, because most tenants are assumed to be at work). But today, a hot humid weekend afternoon in July, nobody could use the pool except the private party. It makes me think the owner of this complex is only concerned about making extra money, at the mercy of the tenants. Maybe a set of guidelines could help clarify what the rules are regarding when this could happen, so potential tenants could review and be aware of what to expect. (2) Both times I was there, people were outside lingering in the chairs and entry at the front of the building... staring me down when I got out of my car (and they definitely aren't tenants!). I have a concern that they may be there as a 'message to everyone' coming in and out of the building, that they own this neighborhood. I am aware that Long Beach has a variety of ethnicities, and I can see that this neighborhood is transitional, however I have no interest in dealing with it at the front door of my home, especially when paying the amount of rent that you are asking. Maybe a few 24 hr security guards around the property could help remedy this issue... (3) And what is the purpose of this key/fob that they show us?...the leasing agents have it in their hand when they show the building and when they go in the elevator. But, when I was there today people walked off the street, through the unlocked front door, and were allowed to go 'unattended' to the elevators. So, anyone can anyone just come in and wonder through the building? Anyway, I think this building is too new for me (although it's beautiful in all of it's 'physical aspects')... I am just not in a place in my life to deal with the learning curve... Thank you, read more

5 stars hands down. This is the best place to live in long beach. The building is basically brand new (2 years old I think) and nothing even comes close. The units are in extremely great shape since they're so new. Most importantly, its so QUIET and you never deal with loud neighbors or noisy hallways because the walls are so thick and the windows are double paned. The gym is solid and the rooftop terrace is VERY cool and overlooks the ocean and all of DTLB and even LA on a clear day. Maintenance keeps the common areas extremely clean (they do a deep clean every single morning), and any maintenance issue i've ever had was resolved immediately (usually within the hour). The management team is also very hands on and amazing to work with. Jamie/Chris/Jorden are all awesome. If you are looking to live downtown long beach without the hassle of usual apartment building BS, this is 100% the place to be. read more

First off parking is horrible mainly it's caused by the Starbucks downstairs and especially when the food trucks are there half the parking is taken up by them on the plus side you don't need a key to get in just walk right in nothings ever locked and Security doesn't care. It's not the greatest area though... fortunately I was just here for one night, I won't be staying there ever again didn't feel safe and since there's plenty other options in the area that shouldn't be a problem. read more

My husband, myself, and our black lab love living here. We could not have been more happy with our decision to try this place out. The location is perfect. Still in downtown, but not in the middle of Pine st. Everything is within walking distance. In the community it's super quiet! I was not expecting that. All apartments I've lived in, you can hear every little thing your neighbor is doing, not here! It feels very private, which was a pleasant surprise. Coming from living in a house, I did not expect that. The community areas are beautiful. We love going to the 17th floor to do our work. It's always so clean and fresh smelling. The 4th floor fire pit is beautiful, too. Once it warms up we are going to start using it a lot more. The staff here are amazing. Mike is probably one of the nicest guys I've ever met and he has been so incredibly helpful. We really value his hospitality and appreciate how welcome he's made us feel. If you're on the fence about The Current, just do it. It's worth every penny!! read more

Don't let the pictures fool you! Yes it's a pretty building but the management is all about money and there is NO security at this building. I've lived here for over a year and if you go to the lobby looking for management or staff there's nobody at all to be found. The rooftop pool is beautiful but it's always full of visitors and rental parties so the residents know not to go up there on weekends. There's pet pee and dog crap everywhere (lobby, elevator, etc) and nothing is ever done about it. It's supposed to be a smoke free building but there's constant stink of cigarette smoke and marijuana that wafts in from dopers and smokers living here. The security is overnight ONLY and staffed so minimally with 1 or 2 people maximum. During the day there is NO security at all. People walk in off the street and head right to the elevators to wait for a resident heading up to use their key fob to gain access to floors. When the rooftop is rented (pretty much every weekend in the summer) the number of strangers wandering the building, hallways and garages goes up to the level of ridiculous.
