Even if honestly I admit my interests are vested, I will say however, that as an entertainer, in my life experience as a performer in venues such as this, I have never in my 50 or so professional years, had ever been so respected to have been given even 5 engagements in a year much less the 20+ dates that Brookdale assigned me in 2015. I believe this is because they want to make their residents feel as happy and nostalgic as possible. They realize the psychological and emotional value of giving them connection with their past, and particularly for stimulating responsiveness for the memory care patients through the music and humor of their time. They realize it is crucial for their adjustment and peace of mind. Let me start at the beginning. We looked at this location for my mom because she needed more care than we were able to give her at home anymore, it all seemed like a great fit, the woman that gave us the tour was wonderful and kind, unfortunately she hit ill and they let her go. One thing that I cannot say enough about is the activities department! If not for them I would have taken my mom out, they kept my mom busy and entertainment for the last six months of her life. Jacinda the director should open her own business! I have so many items that my mother made that are beautiful and I will cherish them forever. Let me get to the negative about this company. The management is truly awful, I won't go into too many specifics but I know that karma will have her way with these folks. I will start with the family is supposed to get together with a manager and get a 30 and 60 day review of how their loved one is doing, Jack the manager had to change the date, ok fine but when I went in on the date he changed it to he started yelling at me (the customer paying 9k a month) saying he was too busy! There is a nurse case manager who oversees the nursing staff, unbeknownst to me I don't even think she's an RN, that I caught in a bunch of lies about my mother falling, which ultimately resulted in her death. I had asked to see the video to see my moms fall and was given the runaround how Jack couldn't find it on the film (what??? Why do you have cameras then?) my mom was in hospice care and did not have a long outlook but this definitely rushed her process along. I could go into many more stories, something that really left a bad taste in my mouth? They sent me a bill after my mom had passed away, keep in mind, this is a 50 bed facility, not a huge corporation! My mom had been gone over five weeks now, I'm still awaiting the refund I was promised three weeks ago, the management doesn't care about their clients whatsoever, it's all about the money, thank goodness for Lorna, Denise and Jacinda!

When she first arrived via ambulance, no greeting from anyone in facility. Sat in room w/ her for two hours - she could have fallen and died and no one would have known. Bed was wooden, no side rails, had to ask for those as a fall risk. Room was dirty, pubic hair on the toilet in BR. Dementia pt roaming into moms room 2-3x scaring all of us, no one seemed to care about this woman. CNA sitting in hallway w/ headphones in. Left my mom overnite. Got a call from her at 2AM scared crying. We tried to call back. The # on sticker that was on her room phone was wrong! Called and woke up an elderly man who told us to get her the hell out of there. Finally got her stayed on phone w/ her. Had soiled diaper, was 25 mins before staff came in to help her. No shower in the BR. How this place is running as a medical facility is beyond me. STAY AWAY!!!

Direct care personnel do not wear any kind of identification, so I have to ask every one's name just to know them. Medicals staff have no idea what they are doing. Told them what medication I am on, they decide to change my medication. causing a second panic attack since arrival. Have to ask what medication you are being given and how much. Arrived here on 11/27/24 now 11/30/24 at 4am. Have had two panic attacks. Staff response time to incidents are poor if at all. I had to get help for my roommate when he was having problems in the bathroom. They make you feel like I have to be here even though I can take care of myself just fine. Had to call 911 to get a response from staff. Because of the holiday and long weekend, I can't get anything done to my liking. have to call on friends to have things taken care of. I feel like i'm in prison with no say in my care. Because of the long weekend they can not do anything for me. everything need to go through the so called channels, except all the channels are off for the long weekend. My next step now is trying to get discharged from this place.. I feel so sorry for all of the other residents / patients here that can not speak up for themselves. 11/30/24 -8:am shift change Saturday morning waiting for my morning meds wish me luck. I will say one thing at least the day shift staff attitudes are much better than the overnight staff. Their attitudes suck at best!. The staff are so caring and have really taken the time to get to know our mom. She enjoys a wide variety of activities offered each day, and we were able to keep in touch with mom via FaceTime during the pandemic thanks to the staff. The house is surrounded by nature and the grounds and facilities are beautifully maintained. I read the previous review and this person must be mistaken as there are no shared rooms, only individual apartments. He or she must be thinking of another facility.

She was physically dropped twice, the staff didn't answer the call light for 45 min (she called my aunt who called the facility to ask them to answer her bell) by then she had wet herself of course. She was in a room with a person who screamed and had dementia (grandma was mentally intact) She was at the end of the hall, and her one request was that for once she get a hot meal bc her food was cold by the time they got to her. They said no, they had to do it in order. They lost her favorite pants in the laundry ... this is from someone who has very little left in life. It's the small things.. make her happy with the small requests. She even feared retaliation if she complained. Ultimately she gave up food and water voluntarily to die. They could have done better by her. She knew what was happening. She wanted out.

I put a Nest…read moreCamera in his room so that I could see how he was doing because he was transitioning from another facility, and not to check up the caregivers. However, I discovered much more than I was expecting to see! My dad was molested by another resident! I almost got sick while watching it! Ironically, this woman was constantly trying to be with my dad - who is married to my mom - but they told me it was the other way around, and that my dad was the initiator. They also found this woman in my dad's bed at least once, and I saw a second time that she was in his bed. One evening I was there late, around 9:00 pm, and this same woman was wondering around. I found the three caregivers sitting and watching the Celtics game on t.v. I asked them if they could escort this woman to her room, and they just looked at me. I then had to ask them again with a little bit of a tone, and finally someone got up. I saw via Nest that one evening that not one came to my dad's room to take my dad to dinner, and did not bring him anything to eat in his room, so I had to rush out and bring him some food. They said that they asked him, but the camera did not show anyone hours before dinner in his room. Another evening I was there very late, around 11 p.m., and the late staff was working. They have only two people on the floor overnight to watch the entire side. The two women were sitting by the fish tank and talking. When I asked them if they could keep an eye on my dad to make sure he doesn't wander at night, they responded, "We can't watch just him. We have some residents that need both of us to lift them and help them." WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THERE WAS A FIRE AT NIGHT??!!! One early morning when I was visiting my dad, the staff forgot to open the doors so that the residents could go to breakfast. They were all waiting by the doors. After 45 minutes, I went to the front desk to find out what was going on. I was told that they "forgot." How many other times did they forget when no one was watching? During the meals they are understaffed because the caregivers are too busy feeding the residents who need acute care. The "able" residents were often left to their own devices. I had to step in several times and pour juice or milk for the able residents, clear their plates and give the dessert. Via the Nest I checked mid-morning to see how my dad was doing because he wasn't feeling well. I saw two caregivers trying to pick out some clothes for him to wear, and they pulled out some shorts and laughed - it was December! Instead they just left him in a chair in his underwear. They did not even look in his dresser drawers where there were several pairs of pants and sweat pants. When my dad wasn't feeling well, and vomited in his bed. The staff threw his soiled sheets and comforter on the floor of his closet, and never washed them. I had to take the home and wash them. The "caregivers" are not caring or nurturing at all. The don't even like to touch them. Many times I saw them dragging a resident by the sleeve! Other facilities at least hold the residents' hand when they are guiding them. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED IN JUST ONE MONTH!!! I had to move my dad out of Atrium at Veronica Drive because is was too dangerous! I shared all of the above issues to the director, who is very nice, and she always showed concern, but I don't know how much of her concerned reaction was to appease me. The head of nurses always made every situation sound like it was either my dad's fault or that I did not fully understand the situations. She was wrong on both points. I think this head nurse did not always tell the director exactly what was happening in the facility. THE ATRIUM AT VERONICA DRIVE WAS A NIGHTMARE!!!!

I had asked my brother-in-law if he would like me to be his advocate. He thought that would be great and appreciated my suggestion. I live on the West Coast and of course Brooksby is on the East Coast. I knew that because of HEPA laws staff are not supposed to talk to family members without written permission or consent form. I called their case manager and my brother-in-law's nurse over 15 times in one week and left voice messages. NO ONE CALLED ME BACK! When I finally reached someone in the administration office, I explained the situation and asked if she would please call me back either way to let me know what's going on. I STILL have not heard from anyone. Although I live 3000 miles away, I am the closest relative that still has cognitive abilities. All three of my younger sisters have Alzheimer's. I was hospitalized with shortness of breath which doctors thought I had a heart attack on top of a bad case of bronchitis. The cardiologist performed a cardiac catheterization and told me that my heart was "great." He asked if I had been under stress and diagnosed me with broken heart syndrome due to the stress I had caused by the total lack of communication between Brooksby regarding my family members and myself. NO ONE YET HAS CALLED ME BACK! It's been about 4-6 weeks. My family pay an exorbitant amount of money and Brooksby cannot return a phone call? Family care is good healthcare. I would not recommend Brooksby to anyone considering putting themselves or a loved one in that facility.

Dad fell and was transported to a local hospital which then transferred him to a nursing home. He is not receiving PT nor any of his basic needs met. I called Brooksby Village to have him moved to their short term rehabilitation. I was told 7/29 or 7/30 a bed would be available. Now I am being told a bed will not be available for weeks. Meanwhile, his monthly apartment rent of $2,800 has to be paid. To those looking at this facility RUN RUN RUN!!!!!!! They are a Poncy scam!

In February 2020, I suffered a not so great knee injury while skiing. After a MRI, the orthopedist…read morerattled off my laundry list of injuries via phone, which sounded like a foreign language to me. Wanting to go to my appointment prepared, I brought Kayce to help me understand what all my issues and options were. Kayce helped me understand everything I had wrong and even advocated for me to get a more functional knee brace since I was going to be in it for the long run. Fast forward a month and COVID-19 hit, preventing me from participating in onsite pre-hab. Kayce ended up coming to my house regularly and treating my knee in my garage where we could leave the garage doors open for proper airflow while both armed with PPE. This allowed me to receive imperative treatment in a time I otherwise couldn't have. Post surgery, Kayce came to my rescue yet again. My bandages were wrapped so tight that I lost all the feeling in my foot. Kayce came over at the drop of a dime to rewrap my leg and inspect my incisions. Kayce possesses a vast knowledge of physical therapy techniques that has allowed me to successfully commence my healing journey during these unprecedented times. Without her support and treatment this year, I don't know what I would have done. I would highly recommend Kayce's care and compassion to anyone.

The staff helped me stay involved in her progress meetings and they were always welcoming and helpful when I would come up from Virginia to visit. She was fortunate enough to stay at Oceanview for 9 years and I was blessed to know she was safe and in good hands. If I lived in Massachusetts, this would be a place I'd be checking out in the not too distant future! I absolutely love the view from the top floor.
