The staff are so caring and have really taken the time to get to know our mom. The house is surrounded by nature and the grounds and facilities are beautifully maintained. I read the previous review and this person must be mistaken as there are no shared rooms, only individual apartments. He or she must be thinking of another facility.

She was physically dropped twice, the staff didn't answer the call light for 45 min (she called my aunt who called the facility to ask them to answer her bell) by then she had wet herself of course. She was in a room with a person who screamed and had dementia (grandma was mentally intact) She was at the end of the hall, and her one request was that for once she get a hot meal bc her food was cold by the time they got to her. They said no, they had to do it in order. They lost her favorite pants in the laundry ... this is from someone who has very little left in life. It's the small things.. make her happy with the small requests. She even feared retaliation if she complained. Ultimately she gave up food and water voluntarily to die. They could have done better by her. She knew what was happening. She wanted out.

The handling of the transition from the 30 year administrator to the new administrator wasn't, in fact, a transition. There was no overlap. And no thought was given to the residents feeling about such a big change. Lack of experience of the new administrator has made living there more difficult, and reflects a less caring and empathetic view of how elderly women should be treated. The staff, by-in-large, are very kind and caring people. It's really sad that the Mission of Girdler House is "driven by compassion", yet actions do speak louder than the written word. I would not recommend this facility.

Otherwise, the food has become close to inedible, and certainly not healthy. We try to supplement it with things we cook ourselves in our microwave, but it's hard and expensive as we have to send our private home health aide out to shop for us. The other ongoing problem is that the building continues to be overrun with mice, and the control efforts are half-hearted, at best. I'm giving three stars, the care by the nursing staff ie two of the nurses was wonderful (Lorna and…read moreDenise) there was another nurse that was awful and when my mom was dying she was so rough with her and almost choked her with medication, but I digress. Let me start at the beginning. We looked at this location for my mom because she needed more care than we were able to give her at home anymore, it all seemed like a great fit, the woman that gave us the tour was wonderful and kind, unfortunately she hit ill and they let her go. One thing that I cannot say enough about is the activities department! If not for them I would have taken my mom out, they kept my mom busy and entertainment for the last six months of her life. Jacinda the director should open her own business! I have so many items that my mother made that are beautiful and I will cherish them forever. Let me get to the negative about this company. The management is truly awful, I won't go into too many specifics but I know that karma will have her way with these folks. I will start with the family is supposed to get together with a manager and get a 30 and 60 day review of how their loved one is doing, Jack the manager had to change the date, ok fine but when I went in on the date he changed it to he started yelling at me (the customer paying 9k a month) saying he was too busy! There is a nurse case manager who oversees the nursing staff, unbeknownst to me I don't even think she's an RN, that I caught in a bunch of lies about my mother falling, which ultimately resulted in her death. I had asked to see the video to see my moms fall and was given the runaround how Jack couldn't find it on the film (what??? Why do you have cameras then?) my mom was in hospice care and did not have a long outlook but this definitely rushed her process along. I could go into many more stories, something that really left a bad taste in my mouth? They sent me a bill after my mom had passed away, keep in mind, this is a 50 bed facility, not a huge corporation! My mom had been gone over five weeks now, I'm still awaiting the refund I was promised three weeks ago, the management doesn't care about their clients whatsoever, it's all about the money, thank goodness for Lorna, Denise and Jacinda!

The administration continue to leave me unimpressed and often times, angry and disappointed. The front line staff is a mixed bag. We've had the mediocre and the bad. Then we've had some gems take care of my aunt. I would say that if not for the people on the front line that are there because they are in elderly care for the right reasons, the place would be completely miserable. Thankfully there are some good and caring clinicians. Transparency is not a strong point for BBV. Neither is coordination. My aunt had moved to different areas for different levels of care and each time it feels rushed, pressured and doomed to a horrible transition. For the cost, you would hope that BBV would have moving coordinators that are helpful but nope. I would not recommend this place. It's pretty, and like I said, some beautiful people here and there but the admin is horrible to deal with by and large.

It has to be wet. I said well first of all I don't have a diaper on and who do you think you are just walking into my room he said I need to check. I said get the blank blank out of here now at first he did not leave I told him again to get the blank out of here, I started to get out of my bed to scream so he turned around and he walked out. I went out in the hallway and I saw four men and a woman and they asked me what i was doing , one man has glasses. The man that came into my room was about 5 10 or a little taller I remember his arms look like he had worked out in gyms short jersey black on. I pointed to the man that came into my room and I told them he just walked in and he told me he was there to change my diaper that it must be wet and I told him first of all I don't wear diapers and he said I have to check. I said get the blank blank out of here now. Then the woman said something and then the man turned to her and said I knocked on the door and I said no you didn't. You just walked in and he said I knocked at her door. I said no you didn't. You were standing over me . I was told that they were AIDS/ not nurses so in case there was an emergency I don't know where they would find a DOCTOR . They had no identification there was a tall man with glasses wall in black the woman I think her hair was a reddish/brown and she was very overweight and she had a tough mannerism. You could tell she didn't like to be questioned . they said they patrol the hallways at night so why are they patrolling my room to see if I have a diaper on after the incident with me and I put chairs against the door because if I had been younger, I would've gone out and confronted them to be honest with you, but I heard another woman crying and my heart broke for her so I didn't know what was happening to her. I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone if you put your parents during the day the nursing staff are fabulous There is one aid I do want to mention and I forget her first name, but she's from Morocco, she took me down to get a shower every day she made my bed. PT everyone they're really kind but at night it was a nightmare I should say. DO NOT GO THERE. PLEASE I just left there a few days ago GOOD LUCK
