My brother-in-law is in continuing care and my sister is in memory care at Brooksby. Sadly, she went into memory care on her birthday in August. I had asked my brother-in-law if he would like me to be his advocate. He thought that would be great and appreciated my suggestion. I live on the West Coast and of course Brooksby is on the East Coast. I knew that because of HEPA laws staff are not supposed to talk to family members without written permission or consent form. I called their case manager and my brother-in-law's nurse over 15 times in one week and left voice messages. NO ONE CALLED ME BACK! When I finally reached someone in the administration office, I explained the situation and asked if she would please call me back either way to let me know what's going on. I STILL have not heard from anyone. Although I live 3000 miles away, I am the closest relative that still has cognitive abilities. All three of my younger sisters have Alzheimer's. I was hospitalized with shortness of breath which doctors thought I had a heart attack on top of a bad case of bronchitis. The cardiologist performed a cardiac catheterization and told me that my heart was "great." He asked if I had been under stress and diagnosed me with broken heart syndrome due to the stress I had caused by the total lack of communication between Brooksby regarding my family members and myself. NO ONE YET HAS CALLED ME BACK! It's been about 4-6 weeks. My family pay an exorbitant amount of money and Brooksby cannot return a phone call? Family care is good healthcare. I would not recommend Brooksby to anyone considering putting themselves or a loved one in that facility. read more

This place is a Poncy scam! I payed to Erickson Living thousands of dollars in the form of a deposit. Our decision to move Dad there was based upon their marketing which said further care was available should it be needed. Well, not so much. Dad fell and was transported to a local hospital which then transferred him to a nursing home. He is not receiving PT nor any of his basic needs met. I called Brooksby Village to have him moved to their short term rehabilitation. I was told 7/29 or 7/30 a bed would be available. Now I am being told a bed will not be available for weeks. Meanwhile, his monthly apartment rent of $2,800 has to be paid. To those looking at this facility RUN RUN RUN!!!!!!! They are a Poncy scam! read more

After perusing the glossy brochure I and my wife decided to see, visit the facility location before scheduling the tour. As we arrived to the gate and trying to explain the gatekeeper the reason of our coming his response was pretty rude. After we attempted communicate with him a few questions he called the security personnel ( Stacy or so was her name, and another guy) both of whom exhibited their function in disrespectful, extreme surly, and unprofessional manner, to the extent strongly commanding forcing us to go away. Overall take ( considering our interest in joining the Brooksby community) after this initial unwelcoming encounter gave us an impression of excessive institutional patronage through controlled isolationism and we (forced) walked away with a claustrophobic aftertaste. Not wishing to commit the remains of our days to overeager, friendly challenged policing staff mentality. We have sampled quite few of similar facilities in larger Boston area, most of them open and friendly, but experience with this one was by far the worst. read more

My folks have lived her 12 years since they were 73 and 76. When they entered they drove, danced, worked out, took all exercise classes-yoga-tai chi etc, participated in cribbage club, went to gala annually . . . and now 12 years later they still do all of those things. When they were in their 70s looked quite young and we were all concerned that there were a lot of old people! Now that they are in late 80s, they are the common age, and they have lots of friends over 100! Everything is good here: food, service, staff - best thing is that they are safe and on storms and during pandemics the kids don't have to worry at all. They have generators when the power goes out - once we had to go there because they were the only ones with power! During covid Brooksby did a pretty good job at so many things: they went door to door with the first vaccination before anyone was getting out at all. I couldn't visit, but I could bring things to the gate for my folks on designated days. My issues with Brooksby? In addition to the down payment, you pay monthly to get the meals you want (30 a month or more or less) and that amt they originally paid for the 2 of them in a small 2 bed 1.5 bath has almost doubled in 12 years. Not expected. I will say the best, is that when you pull the chord for emergency help - they are there in a heartbeat and the people are wonderful! Also, they hire high schoolers to serve food, and they are always wonderful. I Love that they also give the kids scholarships. Overall great - if you don't mind the money increases. read more

Since Covid, this place has deteriorated considerably. The lower level staff members do a good job, particularly security and general services. Upper management, however, totally disregards the wishes and requests of the residents. The food is frequently barely edible. The temperature in the public areas is frequently much too cold for a senior community. Complaints are answered with,"Yes, we're working on that." Unfortunately, their work never seems to accomplish anything! read more

Horrible. There are some exceptional staff members but everything else about this place feels like you're dealing with a place from 1980. No zoom meetings offered with family members and staff, only phone calls and in person meetings. Huge lack of transparency. Residents phone and internet connection has been down for an entire week now and there is no time frame for a resolution and no one at Brooksby can tell residents and family why this is happening. A lack of transparency means either someone screwed up or they are in a dispute with the campus wide provider or negotiating some deal at the expense of residents and staff. Utter bullshit but there are so many problems at Brooksby, especially in Continuing Care. read more

My parents chose to move to Brooksby Village, at first in Independent living. They were excited to participate in the many activities available in the large facility, and while they were independent they enjoyed the many nice amenities. However, it was downhill from there. I would like to reinforce the feedback re:move out fees. These fees are arbitrarily charged and aggressively pursued, even when we were able to prove that statements regarding supposed issues were false. We were able to fight some, but ended up paying for items that were not faulty. But, you know, that's just money. My concerns with this facility have to do with the extreme lack of care as residents age. Both my mother and father visited the "skilled nursing" area, and for my father's time in assisted living and "skilled nursing" we found the care negligent, at best, and at times outright abusive. At one time my mother had a knee replacement, so was in the "skilled nursing" area. She worked about a mile daily, was extremely active, and was simply recuperating from an operation. One evening, at 2 am, I was woken by a call, from the facility, asking if my mother had a DNR. Given the hour, my heart plummeted. I asked what was wrong, what had happened. Oh, nothing, the person said. I'm just catching up on paperwork. I explained that my mother was in great physical shape, had a full resuscitation order, and next time to call during the day to "update paperwork". My father's experience was so bad it wracks me with guilt. He fell while in assisted living after going to the bathroom on his own, something he typically did because the staff were repeatedly non-responsive to his calls either to go to the bathroom, or to assist with needed diapering. He went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and fell. He rang for assistance, and waited over an hour and a half for someone to come. Since he was on blood thinners, any unsupervised fall should have meant transportation to the hospital. He had a fractured back, broken collarbone, broken ribs, a broken wrist, broken ribs, and had cracked open previous fractures, etc. Instead of getting him on a backboard and into an ambulance, the staff (4 or 5 of them), came and moved him from the floor to his bed, where he was in agony. It took some time for his family to be informed of this incident, and the staff under-reported it to us, only deciding about 5-6 hrs later that perhaps he should be brought to the hospital. Following time at the hospital he came back to Brooksby to "skilled nursing" where staff told him he was "Patient Number 11, and we're only supposed to take care of 10 people", was left (virtually unable to bring his hand to his mouth) to feed himself. When he was given oxygen as he had trouble breathing (without any covid testing), had his oxygen tube crushed, and as we were trying to speak with him the staff was non-responsive, going so far as to report that he was delusional. When asked what made the individual feel he was 'delusional', they did not have a rational explanation. We had extra private assistants in to attempt to improve his situation, and to advocate for him, but it was not enough. My dad was in severe pain and developing pneumonia (all of which seemed to elude the 'skilled nursing staff). Honestly, it felt that the staff was waiting for him to die to free up his bed and his assisted living spot. He died after an extended stay in a local hospital's ICU. This review is the tip of the iceberg, the negatives were legion. DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONES GO TO THIS HOUSE OF HORRORS. read more

My grandfather really loves it at Brooksby! He couldn't be happier in the independent living area. The facilities are welcoming and well-kept with great amenities like clubs, concerts, and trips into town. There seems to be something for everyone, and has a strong community feel. Many residents stopped by to say hello and greet us as we visited. When you visit, make sure to look at the door/sill decorations that the residents put outside of their apartments! I loved seeing what the residents chose to display. What a fun tradition! When we visited, we took the opportunity to walk around, see the town center, visit the wood shop, and eat in the Windsor (sit-down American restaurant). The food we had was fine, the menu had a lot of options, and we appreciated being able to spend time together in such a comfortable setting. I'd recommend the salad bar. It wasn't anything special, but everything was fresh and staff made sure to keep everything in stock. read more

Buyer beware. Moving in and living there for 9 months was nice. Best thing was the medical center and Dr. Acker. She had a pleasant stay with everyone full of compassion and understanding until it came time to deal with Move-Out Coordinator. She was rude and uncompassionate. Walked in and proceeded to tell me there was water damage. There was never any water in there and no damage. Her comment was, Well, she must have left the slider open. My mom never opened her slider. At 88 she couldn't open it. She proceeded to tell me vanities in bathroom weren't standard. Everything was there when she moved in. Had she done her job and new what was there a day wasted calling insurance company and her supervisor could have been avoided. Much more to say but needless to say, the last person I dealt with left a bad taste in my mouth and wouldn't recommend the place on that basis. read more

Before you move into Brooksby, have your lawyer read the contract. Look at the rights Brooksby gives itself in how to handle a renter they no longer want. They will claim, as they did to my parents, that they are a health care delivery service and NOT a landlord. Therefore, they don't consider people living there to be protected by landlord-renter laws. (They were going to move my parents out of there with 7-days' notice to any nursing home they could find.) A judge found otherwise. You'll get lots of smiles and promises to get you into there, but they get nasty if you don't fit their model. It's really a classic example of a disconnect between marketing and operations. read more

Don't let this huge organization fool you.. My mom was here for several years before being forced into a memory care unit.. She passed away in October and after an exit interview, we were promised our refund on her apartment in 60-90 days.. It is now over 90 and surprise!! No one is returning our calls or answering our emails.. My family is thinking about calling the attorney generals office... Unbelievable!! They lull you into a false sense of security but screw you when it comes to living up to their end of the bargain... The entire process has just ruined anything positive that could have come out of this and now just makes it about a big corporate company just trying to screw the little guy!! Buyer beware great place to live but when it comes time to leave they charge you a crazy refurbishing fee and you wait forever for you money!! My mother transitioned to a 1 bedroom independent living unit at Brooksby over a year ago. It took my mother a while to make her decision, but she reports that she is happy and has no regrets over leaving her long-time home in a nearby town. We have found the facility to be well run, clean, with good food and a professional and friendly staff. There are a variety of activities - something for everyone if you are inclined. The sales staff was extremely supportive during the initial process, including assisting with furniture layout. Our family never felt like we were being "sold", but rather that there were helpful resources available for a variety of services (real estate and mover referrals, home visit to assess how furniture would fit, etc.). Yes, it's undeniable that this is a business, but my family felt supported. That support translated into a smooth transition for my mother. There were no disappointments as time moved forward. It was not just a show up front, but a commitment to providing a wonderful community. read more
