My cousin took us here in an attempt to redeem his final night in Montana and it was the perfect fit. Dive-y, grunge-y, decorated with all the weird stuff a good bar needs - and affordable drinks. Now this is my kind of dive bar. The decorations are wacky, the guys behind the bar are fun and sociable, the music is just a little bit niche, and you got a bigger assortment of canned and bottled beer than I've seen anywhere. Might I like to mention that the drink deals feel insane? Maybe it's just me coming in as a NYer, but I'd kill for specials like these back home! The place also has an awesome rooftop area to enjoy on nice days, but do be wary, it's cash only so make sure you've got your bills with you before you wander upstairs. The Dive bar of dive bars, place is super cool and you could look at the walls for hours. One dig I have is the main bartender blonde and has a mustache took his job way too serious. We popped in for one drink here at The Crystal Bar on Main St West Yellowstone. It's definitely a locals spot and I think a very busy spot at night and the weekends. The vibe is a party atmosphere and very much a locals feeling. A dive bar for sure and if that's your thing, head to this spot. read more

I went during the day and had a seat and ordered a beer from a very nice bartender. It is a bit of a dive but definitely has some character. The crowd was a mix of locals and tourists and being a tourist, I found the locals to be very friendly. I even had two shots of Vitamin C which were just handed to me. Thanks, Bethany. Tourists and locals beware (but especially tourists). Their bouncers are abusive and ineffective. What a waste of good real estate. Over the course of a month people have been stabbed, rammed against dumpsters by angry drivers, and arrested under false pretenses (usually Florida and Californian tourists). Do I have a vendetta? Yes. But screw the owners and their feudal interests. Some of their bouncers should be arrested and the bar tenders can find new jobs. I urge others to come forward with their horror stories. If one person (me) makes these accusations, they are a loon (but it's in the papers!). If two people come forward, it's a conspiracy. But if three people do it, then it's a movement. And if fifty people come forward, well, then there's no denying. The crystal bar needs to go. read more

Fraud is a serious offense no matter the amount and speaks volumes about the integrity of this establishment. My friend and I sat at the bar, it was still pretty early and there were only a handful of patrons. We were approached by the bartender and she seemed unhappy and irritated by our mere presence. My friend had ordered a beer and the bartender asked which one and was visibly annoyed she quickly said the two options without explanation. I had ordered a whiskey neat. The bartender returned with one of the beer options without mentioning which one. She poured my drink which was less than a fingers worth of whiskey. Needless to say I finished it quickly. The bartender obviously had no interest in being there and was on her phone, even her interactions with regulars was subpar to say the least. With my glass empty she asked if I wanted another. I said yes with the hope that I would get a full ounce the second time around. Wishful thinking. I finished my second drink and she had approached again asking if I would like another and I said I was okay for now. Before the last word left my mouth she turned to the register, printed our tab and quickly put it on the bar and went about her business. My friend still had half of her beer left and it was obvious our business wasn't welcomed there. I have worked in the service industry and bartended for several years, I am generally a generous tipper because I understand what it's like to be on the other side of the bar. I was appalled and as much as it went against my grain, I chose not to leave a tip. Worst service I've ever encountered. The bartender was incredibly rude and seemed annoyed that we were even there. It was so bad that we left before finishing our drinks. I NEVER don't tip but we couldn't do it for the service we experienced. To make it worse, our bill was $12 but the bartender added her own tip after we left and we ended up with a $15 credit card charge. This was the first place we visited in downtown Bozeman. My brother & I were visiting for a week and the Crystal Bar was recommended by our Uber driver. Welp, I can't be happier we checked it out! It had a super funky, divey atmosphere. The walls were covered with bright neon signs, various posters, stickers, and a plethora of bras strung all over. I can only imagine the kind of wild, fun nights that could lead to tossing your bra up on a pub wall! Outside of the cool, relaxed atmosphere though- The Crystal Bar delivered on some tasty brews and the kind of service I learned to expect in Montana (ie. the friendliest place in America). The waitstaff and customers both were more than willing to give us recommendations on the best hiking/camping spots, their favorite restaurants, & anything else they felt we should experience before leaving Montana. This is a great place to grab a drink in downtown Bozeman. The waitress we had was super friendly and the drinks were delicious. I love the wall decorated with beer taps, although I am a little bit beyond the age of throwing my brassiere up there for decoration. I also enjoyed the wall dedicated to confiscated IDs. The best time to visit is in the summer; there is almost nothing better than drinks on the rooftop at The Crystal. The bathrooms were clean, and there were fun games for MNF. Sticky floors, wouldn't touch the counters if I were you. Super crowded on the weekends, all those college kids trying to get the most bang (and drunk) for their buck. Atmosphere is fun dive bar, but there are better fun dive bars out there. And less crowded ones. Go to the Cannery instead. read more

Saw two old panheads parked out front with local license plates, so I KNEW this was my go-to place. Went up to the patio, located on top of the building, and sure enough, I had the pleasure to see some lovely, hippie biker eye-candy with long hair and tight faded jeans. Throw in a cold, cheap draft beer, and you've got one happy camper. But if draft beer is what you want, you have to get it downstairs and take it up to the patio. They only serve cans and bottles up there. Topped the happy hour off with a cool black t-shirt that I bought from the bar for only $15. Bonus! read more

Literally the slowest bar tenders on earth. If you put a corpse behind the bar it would be an improvement. Power hour is lacking some serious power. I have been coming to the Crystal Bar for over seven years and have been very supportive of the business. Until recently, that is. A recent experience I had at the Crystal has made me question whether I will ever go back ever again. I am a very polite person who is never belligerent or disruptive, but during one evening at the bar my friends and I were treated with complete disrespect. We were just finishing up our drinks at the bar. It was just after 1:00am on a weeknight and the bouncer decided it was time to close. Yes, it felt a little early and we were a little bit annoyed that we were being kicked out when there were several other people sitting at the bar who were not being rushed out, but the way that the bouncer handled the situation was absolutely ridiculous. Cussing and yelling directly at us, almost in a violent manner. I tried to explain to him that if he would suggest nicely (even just without yelling) that it was time for us to leave it would have been much more effective, but instead I just got yelled at. When my friend went back inside to quickly finish his drink the bouncer actually grabbed his ponytail. He was not only verbally violent but was beginning to be physically violent. The situation did not at all call for that type of reaction, and it was only a few minutes from when he first yelled "bar closed" to when the situation escalated. We never got the chance to finish our drinks. After we left we noticed several people still sitting at the bar. Not only that but the bouncer was there with them laughing. I have never had such a terrible experience at any bar or restaurant in my entire life. I have never had a restaurant/bar employee make me feel so stupid and so small. If the management allows employees to treat customers in this way I certainly will not ever be going back. There is no excuse for such poor customer service, and there are such better ways to handle such situations. Spend your money elsewhere. This bar obviously doesn't care that much about its customers. read more
