A shit ton of pepperoni
Christopher G.

This is the only encounter I have had to what is close to what I know to be a tavern style pizza. I am from Chicago and this is our pizza style (not deep dish). Situated next to the PGA Superstore in Ballyntine. A visit to the store to repair an unfortunately broken 3 metal, I had to check out the place. The staff greeted me warmly and I ordered up a pie, waiting at the bar with a cold brew. Out came the pie with pepperoni cupped and plentiful. What struck me first was the crust. I guess this is why it's in the name. The rest of the elements, sauce and cheese, totally worked together. This is their pie, which they call Midwestern or Ohio style. Alls I know is I won't use broken golf clubs as an excuse to drive 30 miles from Rock Hill (not know for great pizza joints or any type of food, for that matter, except maybe Garden Cafe in York) to get pizza from The Crust Pizza. It's really good. So good that I will be lobbying for a location to be established in Rock Hill or Fort Mill or someplace damn closer! SPECIAL NOTE: A lot of the local pizza places around these parts use cut up sausage links for their sausage (puke emoji). I would strongly encourage y'all to switch to blended pork sausage in bulk (heck, Publix makes a respectable Italian sausage). After all, pizza is an Italian thing. You want it greasy and you want to taste the fennel.

We ordered the 14-inch Pepperoni Pizza. The pizza was not very good. It reminded us of a frozen pizza that was very greasy. We also ordered the Caesar salad. The dressing is heavy on the garlic.

The crust does it again, every time I visit regardless of which location it's always fire! This visit once again did not disappoint, the service was on point as well as the pizza. The restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They were not busy during my visit, but I'm sure even in busier times they would do just the same. The pizza is fantastic, it's not your run of the mill chain pizza, it's more tavern style with better flavor and heavier toppings. Do yourself a favor and head over if pizza is your jam, it won't disappoint.

The pizza was decent, but the experience was kinda all over the place. Looked like they only had one cook on a Saturday night, and you could tell they were struggling to keep up. Service was just okay -- there were a bunch of servers around, but no one really seemed to be paying attention to their tables. It would've been nice if someone checked in or gave an update since the food was taking a while. Might give them another shot, but not sure yet.

Pepperoni Pizza: 3/5 - Nothing special. Cross cut into smaller pieces instead of traditional slices. RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Definitely getting this again) 4 - Good (Would get it again) 3 - Ok (Might give it another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

Was meeting a friend for dinner and arrived a little early. I decided to order a single meatball to start while I looked over the menu. The meatball was delicious and the sauce perfectly tart. When my friend arrived, we decided to share a chopped wedge salad and a BBQ pizza. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. Our server was beyond attentive and did everything to be sure we had what we needed throughout our meal.

I recently stopped by The Crust for a solo lunch. There is plenty of parking in the Promenade and dedicated spaces for takeout. There is a large bar with TVs, along with booth and table seating in the remainder of the restaurant. The bar predominantly has local beer from Sycamore, NODA, OMB, and Legion. They also have wine in the bottle and on tap. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The bartenders Rico and Acey were chatty and regularly checked in to see if everything was good. The bar also has purse/coat hooks and electrical plugs underneath the counter which will be a big plus during football season when people spend hours in a restaurant. They have pizza, subs, salads and dessert. Everything is moderately priced ranging from $10 to $20. They have off the menu pizzas which are similar to pizzas of the day. My bartender didn't know what they were when I asked, but quickly came back to let me know that there were 2: a BLT and a Spicy pizza that featured the hot honey sauce. But I stuck to my old faithfuls. I ordered: - House Salad: It was fresh and large. Definitely shareable. I substituted the vinaigrette for the creamy Parmesan dressing. The salad came out with fully dressed and a side of Parmesan dressing. They quickly remade it, but I was charged $0.50 for the dressing even though it replaced the vinaigrette. That would have been nice to know in advance. - Pizza: Pepperoni with basil is my favorite. So that's what I ordered with a side of red sauce. The side of marinara was ice cold. I'm still not sure if you need to ordered it heated, but it may be worth the extra detail to avoid having to send it back if you want it hot. This location of the Crust is new and it is obvious that they are still working out small kinks, but overall I had good food and service during my first visit. I enjoyed the music, comfortable seating, and the temperature was ambient. I am sure the few minor missteps are due to their newness. Whenever I had a concern, it was quickly rectified. I'll be coming back to try the hot honey drizzled on my pizza. Come on out and try this neighborhood pizza joint for yourself.

Being from Chicago, I am very picky about my pizza and on the hunt for the perfect slice. Unfortunately, The Crust is not the spot for me. Overall I liked their crust and how crispy it is. Toppings were generous but the girl was DRY. Hardly any sauce and the sauce that was on there, was lacking flavor. This wasn't the worst pizza I've had out here but certainly not the best. My search shall continue!

The mixed green salad reads delicious, but only had trace amounts of Gorgonzola cheese, the dressing was good. I enjoyed it later with added. Cheese. The pizza was more like cheese bread. It had a good amount of cheese and lots of pepperonis, but it was dry to me, the crust was a tasty cracker crust. The single meatball was good but served in cold plain sauce. The service was all over the place.

Pretty decent pizza, though I'm not sold on the flavor of the sauce. Overall, it's quick, convenient and affordable. Salads are huge!

Very clearly the best late night pizza option in Charlotte. May just be the absolute best pizza…read moreoption period. We stopped in here for a weeknight late bite when our options were somewhat limited. Thankfully at that hour, street parking in NoDa wasn't too bad, we got a spot just off the main drag. Slices here are GIGANTIC, one is easily about 3 standard slices of pizza, or two normal NY size slices. We got a pepperoni and a cheese. The pepperoni had nice kick to them and the cheese was a high quality. You had to let the pepperoni grease drain onto your plate a bit, but that is expected. The thing that makes both slices so good is the garlic butter bath all around the crust that you can see them doing in the kitchen. Not just that, but the texture in the crust will make even non-crust lovers think again. You're basically left with big doughy garlic butter breadsticks. Definitely a 5 on taste. My only complaint, and I'm sure it is partly by design to keep people from staying long, the stools you can sit on to enjoy your pizza inside the restaurant are THE WORST I have ever placed my derrier on. Even for 15 minutes, it wasn't just uncomfortable, it was painful. It took me a couple blocks to start walking correctly again. Might as well just get rid of them and have people stand to eat. Terrible. Almost knocked a star off for it, that bad. Regardless of the world's worst stools, I would come back for more pizza and just plan on not eating it there.

Loved the layout with seating inside and the open window out front, very inviting! Will add, best eaten fresh as when taken back to our hotel, it did lose its crispiness! A couple of bites is all ya need to prepare for their delicious pizzas. My go to is light on the Pepperoni Well Done (important) and a side of hot honey sauce and a side of plain honey. Because the hot stuff ain't no joke- I have to turn down the spice by mixing the two. Then it's like the best Sweet and Salty you can dream of then the heat kicks you in the face in the best way. To top it off don't even think about leaving before you have one of their brown butter chocolate chip cookies! They are ridiculous and a must. If no room in your belly make sure to get one to go and you can heat it up to perfection when you get home.

The reason we came in to order to-go was because we weren't happy with the Door-Dash delivery of same last time. The pizza just didn't travel well. This time with our to-go order it traveled a bit better and was fresher. We think it would be even better (4 stars) if we dined in. We also had a nice salad of mixed greens with dried cherries and the like, but it didn't come tossed. The dried cherries were in one corner, the onions in another ... you get the idea. Tossing would have made it easier to eat on-the-go. But the service people were very nice, and the store was clean and roomy with a semi-open kitchen. We'd give this place another try next time when dining in.

Review for Pizza Baby…read more After a relaxing Vinyasa yoga class and sound bath at The Coterie Wellness one evening, I found myself hungry--and conveniently, Pizza Baby had just opened in the same complex. Perfect timing. Since it was still new, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and I decided to grab a table outside. The outdoor seating was lovely--relaxed, comfortable, and a great way to unwind after a wellness session. I'm a sucker for thin-crust pizza, especially when it's hand-tossed and thoughtfully prepared, so one item immediately caught my eye: the rosemary pizza with hot honey. Sold. I added Italian sausage to the pizza and paired it with a fresh green salad (I can never resist a good Green Goddess dressing). Yes, it was a little on the pricey side, but the quality matched the cost--and I was genuinely pleased with my choices. The crust was thin and flavorful, the toppings were balanced, and the hot honey added just the right touch of sweetness and heat. This is definitely a place I'd return to--next time with friends--so we can share a few different pizzas and appetizers and really explore the menu. A few practical notes: * Parking is generally easy since the restaurant shares a lot with neighboring businesses in the complex * There are several nearby spots, including a wine bar and entertainment venues, which make the area feel lively * There was some early parking congestion when a nearby church held services, but the situation has since been addressed with signage and coordinated parking solutions It's nice to see businesses and community partners working together to make things run smoothly. There's also another location of Pizza Baby that I plan to visit, which speaks to how positive my first experience was. Bottom line: Great thin-crust pizza, pleasant outdoor seating, and a convenient stop after yoga or an evening out. A solid addition to Charlotte's growing food scene--and absolutely worth checking out. And if you're already in the area for a class or wellness session, it makes for the perfect post-workout reward.

It had been sitting there under the lights for too long. Because the place was busy, and we do have empathy for how hard servers work, we did not send it back or say anything. Just ate as much as we could The meatball appetizer was small and not overly flavorful--a lot for $14, just to add that in. Also, many of the appetizers are cheese-type dishes, which feels like a bit much if you're already there for pizza. Why PB puts SO much sauce on their pies, I don't know. They could save a few dollars by cutting the amount in half. Maybe their other pies are not as soggy, and the fact that margherita pies have a more watery cheese is a factor. Still, we nearly had to eat it like soup. The service was fine--could've been a little more attentive. But there are a dozen other pizzerias in Charlotte that are much better.
