Very clearly the best late night pizza option in Charlotte. May just be the absolute best pizza option period. We stopped in here for a weeknight late bite when our options were somewhat limited. Thankfully at that hour, street parking in NoDa wasn't too bad, we got a spot just off the main drag. Slices here are GIGANTIC, one is easily about 3 standard slices of pizza, or two normal NY size slices. We got a pepperoni and a cheese. The pepperoni had nice kick to them and the cheese was a high quality. You had to let the pepperoni grease drain onto your plate a bit, but that is expected. The thing that makes both slices so good is the garlic butter bath all around the crust that you can see them doing in the kitchen. Not just that, but the texture in the crust will make even non-crust lovers think again. You're basically left with big doughy garlic butter breadsticks. Definitely a 5 on taste. My only complaint, and I'm sure it is partly by design to keep people from staying long, the stools you can sit on to enjoy your pizza inside the restaurant are THE WORST I have ever placed my derrier on. Even for 15 minutes, it wasn't just uncomfortable, it was painful. It took me a couple blocks to start walking correctly again. Might as well just get rid of them and have people stand to eat. Terrible. Almost knocked a star off for it, that bad. Regardless of the world's worst stools, I would come back for more pizza and just plan on not eating it there. read more

I got the Philly cheesesteak pizza which was a special that day. No guarantee it will be there when you go but if you see it then get it. I'm also a big fan of the monthly rotation--it's perfect for when I want variety but lack the decision-making skills to choose for myself. This little pizza shop has been making quite the buzz around town, so of course I had to see what all the commotion was about! Nestled in the heart of NODA right under a cat café, we found ourselves at Zambies. It's a cute little pizza shop with very limited seating. Luckily we were able to snag some seats by the window and enjoy the people watching while eating our pizza! We received compliments from a passerby on our hair! This place gets busy. The parking in this area is also dicey. I tried to get in on a busier night and gave up, going elsewhere nearby. I stopped again mid-afternoon and found it easier to get a slice. These are expensive slices, but I wouldn't question the value for the money. These things are huge. The crust is thin and floppy and delivers a hint of carmelization. The topping options included a fun vegetarian special with a lot of peppers and mushrooms. Drink options were okay but they charged me for a bottled water, which irked me. Notably, they also have vegan offerings, though on most days you would have to order a whole pizza, which is giant and costs like $50. Still good though! The Za Royale (4/5): Big Mac inspired slice. I liked how the sauce was drizzled on top but I wish it was sweeter like Mac sauce. We ordered Zambies late a few nights back after a concert and were super excited to give it a try. Prices are a little high but the size of these slices and flavor was well worth it! We ordered 3 slices and the dessert knots. The rotating slice was the Great Misteak which was basically a Philly steak on pizza, but was pretty tasty. We got the Sleeping Beauty which had a cherry pepper base, topped with red peppers and onions and a balsamic drizzle. This one surprised me with how freaking good it was. I was skeptical at first, but once I bit into that crispy crust I knew we made a good choice. The last slice we got was of course a pepperoni. I looooove a pepperoni pizza that has the little cup pepperonis on it and this was loaded with them. Just an overall great slice. We got the pookie sauce and ranch to dip as well. Both were great and perfect for the crust to dip at the end. The dessert knots were so so. We wished they had a little more of the maple cinnamon sugar and maybe had it swirled throughout the knots because it was unfortunately just a ball of dough on the inside. I have not stopped thinking about this place since we first visited! The pizza here is truly something special. Not only does one slice nearly fill up half a pizza box, but it's also incredibly tasty as well. The crust is nice and crispy and the toppings are so flavorful. I had the one with the balsamic drizzle and it was phenomenal. Husband had the monthly special (loaded with meat), which he also enjoyed. The vibes were immaculate. Loved the music! Service was supreme. The guy that took our order was very nice and went over the menu while we decided which to try. Seating is a little limited but with food coming out pretty fast, it turns over fairly quick. If it wasn't for parking being a pain in this area (and maybe I just haven't figured out the cheat code to that yet) I would be here at least once a week or so. This place has been on my places to eat for a while & Saturday was our first time trying it. It did not disappoint! As we were walking up we passed many people eating their pizza and knew we made the right choice. The line for ordering moved quickly and our slices were ready within 15 minutes. There were a few mini tables to eat at but we took ours to go. The slices are huge with the most amazing crust! We decided to try four kinds: The Padroni, The Pioneer, Sleeping Beauty and Buffalove. I enjoyed both the Buffalove and Sleeping beauty. On Sleeping Beauty, the balsamic drizzle gave a nice sweetness but expected to taste the white sauce more. On Buffalove, it was just really difficult to hold the slice due to the weight of the toppings; but still tasty. The slices are hugeeee, staff is nice, pizza is alright. You get a nice size slice so definitely will fill you up on 1-2 depending on how hungry you are. The place is quaint, a few counter stools, I believe no more than give or take 4 stools in the whole place so not a place to really sit & eat more so grab & go. Pizza is alright. I'm from up north & used to New York pizza and it doesn't compare, but it's not bad. I wouldn't come here looking for NY style pizza but the specialty pizzas are nice to try. The buffalo was alright & the Philly cheesesteak was really good. Would be a great touch if they had some type of sauce though, like ranch to dip it in or hot honey to drizzle as the pizza does need a little something extra to give it that flavor read more

If you're looking to feed an army, Zambies is the place to go! My bf and I stopped by Zambies on request of his brother after he and his girlfriend ran the Charlotte marathon this past weekend. We needed to feed quite a few people as friends and family were gathering at their apartment in NoDa as an impromptu congratulatory party. My first impression was that Zambies clearly makes HUGE pies as indicated by the size of the boxes in the visible storage overhead. If you're familiar with Benny's, it's pretty similar to that. Zambies does not have a lot of room to sit but they make up for this with a big walk-up to-go window. If you don't want to wait inside or can't for lack of room, the location makes it so you can put in your order and meander around before coming back. While this place might not be great for dine-in, I'd say that this is the only place in Charlotte that is conducive to a "walking slice," like you can get in NYC. And speaking of NYC, Zambies isn't too far off from that of an NYC style pizza. A couple of things to be aware of - Zambies does not do fountain drinks so they will charge you $2.50 for a can of soda. Their pies are also pretty pricey comparable to similar spots like Benny's (2 pies ran us about $105) so I would save this spot for pizza by the slice or if you were trying to feed a lot of people like we were. That's where Zambies loses a star for me. read more
