Who knew the toughest reservation to get in CLT would be at a small pizza joint??!! It took a little creativity to score a reservation, and even then it was still a couple months out... but we finally made it to Bird this week. Recognized by The New York Times as one of the best pizza spots in the U.S., the hype is definitely real... even if we're still debating whether it was two-months-in-advance real LOL. It is a small cute spot inside, NYC style. Some people don't like sitting so close to other customers, but I enjoy small intimate restaurants. As for the food - pizza was delish (love that they have beef pepperoni), but the viral kale Ceasar and buttermilk ice cream on the olive oil cake stole the show. I will say review that bill well once it arrives. We saw we were overcharged for drinks, our waitress put the tab of our next door table on ours. We did go back inside before leaving to get it straightened out, and they were nice about it. Service is good but a little slow when it came to getting things like extra napkins, drinks, etc.....and I could tell some waitresses were a bit more attentive to their tables vs. others. Definitely would return, but maybe more so just to pick up a pizza at the outside window and take it back home.
Got in line around 5:15 on a Wednesday hoping to snag a walk in seat and we did! We were seated at the bar and our server/bartender was outstanding. We originally were only going to order The Glory pizza with sausage, but our server convinced us to try the viral kale salad. I'm glad she did, because it was the star of the meal. I actually didn't love the pizza. I misunderstood the description and thought it was a red sauce base, but it was EVOO, so it was more like a flatbread. That's on me, but I do think the pizza could have been more flavorful.
Yes, it lives up to the hype. For dining in, Check in at the unmarked door behind closed curtains, where the host will take your information and call or text when your table is ready. The atmosphere feels very Manhattan, New York--moody R&B with the bass turned up, soft dim lighting, and intimate curtained spaces create a cozy vibe. And then there's the kale salad. After hearing all the hype, I decided my curiosity was worth risking my lactose intolerance. No regrets. In fact, if I ever had to choose a death row meal, this salad would be on the menu. It's crunchy, toasty, creamy, and brightened with just the right hint of lemon. It's an absolute must-order. And when you get to the crust of your pizza, do yourself a favor and use it to soak up every last bit of that dressing. The pizza is also very very good. Bird has developed a wonderful deep flavor of crust. And the tomato sauce has this great acid where if you end up taking some leftovers home, it develops into this beautiful umami that makes you question. Is it even better the day after? regardless, my husband asked me while we were at the restaurant to make our next reservation, fantastic food
Party of 4 to Bird Pizza. We made the reservation back in February so we were excited to go. This was my and my niece's second visit but first for my boys. Reservation was a 5:30. The line outside was already pretty long when we arrived. Most of the people on line were walk-ins. Not sure how many got in as Bird Pizza is very popular. The restaurant is small but they have a full service bar. If you are alone you could sit at the bar and eat. The Kale Caesar was huge and amazing and the pizza was excellent. We ordered cheese pizza - nothing special but it was! We got hot honey to accompany the pizza which added additional flavor. Check them out. You will really enjoy Bird Pizza.
We ordered the Grandad and a pepperoni. The sausage is house-made and the pepperoni is beef. That's a plus for me. And it was SO good! This is a combined rating. It was a 5 for me--excellent flavors, limited specialty menu, FRESH Parmesan, great crust. A 4 for my husband who wanted a tad bit thicker crust, and a 3.5 from our 16 year old who said hers was a tad too greasy and she wanted more nonalcoholic drink options beyond sparkling water and Coke. We still reheated leftovers in oven and still perfection for me. There isn't much signage, on the building or the pizza box, which seems to be intentional. I like it. Gives if-you-know-you-know vibes. You can eat indoors, which is pretty small and very loud, but so cool. Def get reservations, because they fill up FAST! To-go is also option, and they request that you order ahead on their website, and you can eat it on their outdoors tables, if you choose.
I had a reservation for 8:15 p.m., but I noticed Google indicated the restaurant closed at 8 p.m. I called the number listed, which turned out to be incorrect and actually belongs to a law office. So, I decided to head to Bird Pizzeria about an hour before my reservation, hoping there wouldn't be any issues with seating. Thankfully, the host was understanding and able to seat me. I ordered the kale Caesar the serving size is generous and definitely enough to share. The OG pizza was phenomenal, and the portion sizes for each slice are fair. Also, whoever is in charge of the aux cord you have an awesome playlist. You were the reason I was vibing with my food and Tito's lemonade.
Third or fourth time here and it has yet to disappoint. At this point it's a staple. We had reservations on a Friday night which was the right call -- it was busy but never overwhelming, and the low lighting and music kept the atmosphere exactly where it should be. Always a vibe in there. Our server Imoni was attentive and personable throughout. We both went with the Grolleau for wine -- not too dry, very easy to drink, good choice for a pizza night. Started with the famous kale Caesar salad. They were generous with the portion today and it came out warm, which was a little unexpected but not unwelcome. Personal tip -- if you have leftovers, that salad is even better the next day after sitting in the fridge overnight. Trust me on that. For the pizza we ordered the Grandad, no sausage, with hot honey. I asked for the hot honey on the side but it came on the pizza directly. Not a dealbreaker flavor wise, but it does make the crust soggy over time so if you're particular about that, make sure to emphasize it when ordering. Either way the pizza was amazing as always. Bird is consistent and that's exactly why I keep coming back.
The Food was Amazing just as the servers! This is such a cute place that is a Great Vibe as soon as you enter! I can understand why it's hard to get reservations it is a place you want to continue to return to!

Staff was friendly enough and the crowd waiting was chill. Def would NOT order online as it was not done on time despite ordering it hours ahead. Seems the best way to go is to get there right away and order at the window for the most effective way to order if you want it to go. Would have loved to dine in and try the salad and see the vibe but didn't have time. Tasty local spot and would stop if in the area and had time to spare.

Once they opened 15 minutes later, the host seated us almost immediately. It's a small spot but has a very 'date night' vibe. We ordered the Kale Caesar, of course. For something so simple, it was definitely one of the best salads I've ever had. Our server was delightful and very kind. The pizza was definitely an 8.2, just like Dave Portnoy gave it. Overall, 10/10 experience here.

We left and came back, and they seated us at the bar with no issues. The place is tiny, but they use the space so well and the experience never felt cramped. We were genuinely impressed with everything from the food to how smoothly they handled the crowd. We will absolutely be back.

On point. Taste? Ehhh, close but not quite. We also left the restaurant still smelling like the restaurant, plus a little napkin residue situation. And the lighting could definitely be better. Between that and the volume, it's giving "cute spot, but not the vibe to linger." On the flip side, the staff was super friendly and accommodating, and the prices were actually pretty reasonable. Overall: good vibes, solid service, decent food... but still looking for that wow factor.
Okay, the pizza slaps. Yes it's hard to get a reservation. Go to the window, scan the QR code to order a pizza online, wait about an hour (go walk to optimist or Rosie's Wine Garden), but it's worth it. I'd love to go back and get a reservation to dine in, but I really enjoyed the hot honey and pepperoni pizza to go. It's nice that there is so much in the area so you can kill time while you wait. The staff were also so friendly! Definitely recommend.
Had a great time at Bird. We got a corner table by the window and ordered drinks and the salad. We split the OG pizza and then got the strawberry sorbet and olive oil cake. Don't sleep on dessert! Friendly service. the table/space are pretty tight. read more

Got a pizza to go and I thought it was pretty decent. Really appreciated that the dough was light - if they do one thing well it's definitely the dough. I also appreciated that it wasn't overly greasy but to me I don't love a sweet sauce, and this definitely leans on the sweeter end. The downfall for to go orders is that you don't get to order a specialty pie and I think that's where a lot of the magic is. It's hard to get a pepperoni pizza and have your socks blown off in my opinion. I think in the future I'd want to dine in and have the pizza fresh & do a specialty pie and see how it compares! read more

We came here on a Sunday when they were only doing takeout. Very happy that we were able to try as their dining room reservations are very difficult to get. I imagine it would been an amazing experience because the food was fantastic. We arrived just as they were opening and just placed a take out order through their website and it arrived in decent time. We got the kale caesar which was the best kale salad I've ever had. Amazing texture and flavor, very fresh and the cheese and dressing added a lot. The pizza was a pepperoni with hot honey. It was delicious, the crust had great texture and the flavors were amazing. It was a fairly topping light pizza, not a ton of sauce or other toppings but very delicious. Would absolutely come back! Thanks! read more
Intimate space, always completely full. Reservations are a must, but I think they may do walk ins to sit at the six (?) top bar. The kale Cesar salad has been viral on social media for a few months now, so we were excited. It was extremely underwhelming taste wise. The dressing is higher based, and does not taste like Cesar. Kale pieces were massive and not chopped enough. The best part of the salad were the croutons! Presentation wise 10/10. Overall salad 7/10. The pizza... AMAZING. Might just be the best pizza I've ever had. 10/10. We ordered the OG pizza and the combo of toppings was absolute perfection. Would not change a thing. I'm excited to try their other pizzas next time! We parked easily on the street right out front. The entrance is a door to the left of the to-go window. I will be coming back and ordering to-go pizza!!! read more
This is exactly like a pizza you would get in New York. So yummy, thin crust, we got pepperoni and a side of hot honey. The honey wasn't super spicey. Salad we had to try and was so good too we split it between 3 people. Service was great pretty fast and friendly. Inside is pretty small but wonderful vibes and an open kitchen. Overall I would rate it 8/10 only because we had to book this over a month in advance. I probably would not be back because of this, I would suggest to Go orders daily so people could pick this up! It's just like pizza up north. read more

I waited two months for a dinner reservation here. It was good, but honestly, I didn't quite understand the crazy hype. It's not your typical, conventional pizza style, but it's still very good and flavorful! It's a small cozy spot. Service is super fast, and I'm definitely looking forward to trying their other pizzas. read more

Get the flipping Caesar salad. It is over the top and you'll love it. I've been wanting to go to Burger pizzeria for months! And it finally works out where my husband and I were out early and ended up there right as it opened. They now allow walk-ins however if you eat inside the restaurant you cannot make many changes to the food menu. If you would like to order custom pizzas you have to do so outside at the window. They do have outdoor seating with umbrellas for customers. The service was great I do believe my waitresses name was toffee. We had a great time choosing wines and I bought a wonderful bottle at her recommendation. The pizza was really good you can tell they use high quality ingredients. Though the next time we are going to eat at the window because we want to customize our pizza. read more

Great pizza, great friendly service, great desserts and a must try. Thin crust and so airy. We had the kale caesar salad of course and it was really good and flavorful (I'm not a kale fan but this was good). We then had the White pizza with the guanciale, the OG (spicy) and the grandad. The 4 of us devoured all 3 pies! read more
This place was recommended to me as a New Yorker, and it didn't disappoint. The ordering process is a bit intense since it's in such high demand--I had to place my order hours in advance for pickup, and they sell out quickly. I wouldn't recommend dining in because it gets very crowded. I went on a Wednesday and still noticed a line. The pizza itself tasted very good. The pies are a bit smaller than traditional New York-style large pizzas, but still decent. My order was ready exactly at the time promised, which I appreciated. I would definitely order again and recommend it to family and friends. I'm happy to support this spot! read more

While we waited 40 days and nights to try here, I must say it lived up to the hype. My girlfriend had heard about this place through social media and was quick to get up in the morning to catch an open spot. Personally, I had no clue but the fact that its reservation only and you had to make it way in advanced. I knew it had to be good. Our waitress Kimberly was amazing. She not only gave us amazing food recommendations but she knew the perfect wine pairing to go with our meal as well. Everything she recommended didn't disappoint. The ambiance was very quaint and moody. You must try the kale caesar. They don't serve you an over flowing portion for nothing. We honestly considered getting seconds it was so good and was more than enough for the 4 of us. Can't wait to go back again soon! read more
Whooooooaaaaa. I've been meaning to get to Bird ever since they opened & this past weekend I finally made it. Bird is one of those places, "hey, I want to go!" But then when you think to go, it's like CFA on Sunday, they're closed. My homegirl wanted to take me out for my birthday, & to my surprise she wanted to take me here. We got there at 5:15, for their 5:30 opening. We weren't alone! There was probably 20+ in line. We got on the waitlist, which was 2.5 hours. The text service was helpful, as we went across to Optimist Hall to have a drink. 2 hours & 20 minutes later we got the text that they were ready for us. The inside is so cozy & the playlist was ! We got the kale salad, which is gorgeous! And it tasted amazing. We got the OG pizza, which not only looked good, but was delicious. That crust! Our server was so sweet & efficient. I love the open kitchen concept, too. I can't wait to get back! read more
I've heard of and seen this place all over social media and have been wanting to try them out. I read the FAQ sheet on the website before arriving, so I knew to get there early and that parties can't be larger than 3 to be seated without a reservation. We arrived about 4:50 and they opened exactly at 5:30 as stated. They called for reservations first. Then, proceeded with the rest of the line. We were ushered on the restaurant and seated within 5 mins of them opening. We were seated and the bar and served by Nkem who is actually one of the owners. She was really really nice and she shared a little about how the business got started and how they expanded to having a dining room. I ordered a whiskey sour that was really good and the Grandad pizza! Listen the drink delivered a nice punch and the pizza was full of flavor in every bite. The toppings were generous and just flavorful. The pizza definitely lived up to all of the hype that I've seen. The restaurant is what I'd consider a small intimate setting. If you're considering dining inside, plan accordingly, get there early and be prepared to enjoy a yummy pizza pie. Now, I didn't order the kale said, but it was clearly a hit as almost every table had one. Definitely treat yourself! read more
Loved the kale Caesar salad and the olive oil cake but I felt that the pizza was a bit salty. It's so hard to get a res and idk if it's worth the hype tbh. Service was excellent tho. The interior was full of stainless steel which made the inside feel very factory like and not that homey or comfortable. read more

I last recall this pizza being incredible. Unclear what happened. Maybe I changed. Maybe the pizza did? I picked up and immediately went home approx 2 mi away and it was ice cold on arrival. The crust was tough but the toppings were better. The service was adequate. I waited outside of a window to pick up the to go order. The outside spot would probably be better if there were lights and clear instructions on what to do for pick up. read more

The food was definitely one of the best pizza's in Charlotte. The service was amazing. Everyone was attentive and made you feel like you were family. The restaurant is not big inside but you don't feel over crowded. It is a must try for sure! read more
Waited months for this reservation... so had high expectations that unfortunately were not met. We started with the famous kale caesar salad, definitely unique with the huge amount of cheese and crouton crumbles, but the salad itself was really just plain kale and the dressing was nothing special. The white pizza had an overwhelming lemon flavor which was a little odd on a pizza. I will say the classic pizza with pepperoni and hot honey added was the real deal- super delicious pizza!! This is what people are talking about with the rave reviews. It's a crispy thin crust with yummy mozzarella and a tasty sauce. The problem we had with the service was that the cocktail menu listed every cocktail as $12 but on our final bill the whiskey sour came out to $16. After asking our server about it the bartender came over and stated there was an up charge for a more top shelf liquor, which was not communicated. She refused to make it right on our bill stating "no one else has ever complained before". We didn't have a problem paying for it but would suggest changing the menu to correctly reflect how much a drink will cost. read more

YOU HAVE TO ORDER DAYS IN ADVANCED. they only have a certain amount of pizzas available for pick up. i got in line to pick up my order and there were some people who were agitated because they did not know it was so limited/couldn't just walk up and order. so most people got out of line when they realized that. so be prepared! the pizza was truly the best we've had in charlotte. it is very much a NYC thin crust style and it's delicious! we spent about $50 on two pizzas so it is pricier! but is definitely yummy/worth the experience! read more

Bird Pizzeria has had one of those rare, internet-fueled moments that most restaurants only dream about. A small, unassuming pizza shop in the heart of one of Charlottes hottest neighborhoods suddenly found itself thrust into the national spotlight after being named among the best pizzas in the country, capped off by a visit from Dave Portnoy and the viral wave that followed. Lines formed, wait times stretched, and hype levels went through the roof. I intentionally waited for all of that to die down before finally stopping by. I ordered the Plain Pie (tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil) because that's the only fair way to judge a pizza shop. No distractions, no gimmicks, and the result? Absolutely worth the hype. The crust has that perfect balance of chew and char, the sauce is bright without being acidic, the mozzarella is applied with confidence, and every bite feels deliciously intentional. I'm not a pizza expert by a long shot, but I do have two boys (7 and 11), between the three of us we eat a mountain of pizza every year and this one stood out immediately. It's the kind of pizza that makes you stop mid-bite and think, oh... this is different. My personal favorite in Charlotte is still King of Fire, but Bird occupies a very specific mental space. If I close my eyes and imagine what pizza tastes like while walking the streets of Italy (not the romanticized version, but the real, everyday slice) this is the pizza I taste in my head. I'm generally skeptical of hype, especially the viral kind, but Bird Pizzeria is one of those rare cases where the attention is earned. Update. 12/12 So while back in charlotte I decided to give them another shot. This time I went with a white pizza. White sauce base, mushrooms, pork blend sausage. I ordered from the QR code at the window and. Nine else was outside. I was there at 4pm When they open and it took about 25 mins to get the pizza. Which personally felt like a rather long time. Anyway I get the pizza and immediately open it to get the best possible experience from a fresh pie. Just like last time the dough and crust are solid. The pizza again is very VERY under seasoned. Which is strange how the manage to make all the ingredients so bland and add zero seasoning. I had to again go to the window and ask for a side of salt to try and wake the pizza up and make it halfway decent. Out of 2 adults and 2 kids we didn't even eat half the pie. Idk where the high praise comes from but after 2 visits I find the pizza very bland and unremarkable. And with that I have to lower it from 3 stars to 2 stars. Slow service and boring pizza at expensive prices. $30 for a pie with no seasoning. read more
