It was so good to be back for metal brunch again after all this time! My partner loves crow's nest vegan biscuits and gravy. They're a meat eater so I feel their stamp of approval is quite a compliment. We got a side of their green eggs today (think pesto scrambled eggs) and it was delicious. My bean veggie burger was great as well. They were happy to sub the olive tapenade out for some bbq sauce for me. Service was amazing. Hannah, our server was probably the best waitress I've ever had. She made sure our order was correct, provided coffee refills, was attentive and really kind. There was clearly a team working and it was nice to see a waitstaff enjoy one another. Hannah seemed to be the star of the team. I'm sure we'll be back again and again. Love this place and was so happy to taste the delicious food once more. I checked out their Facebook page before going this morning and it looks like they've got a great happy hour too. read more

My friend ordered the Green Eggs and Ham sandwich and I got the Bowl of Slop. Both of our entrees were good. We also got the bloody Mary's with beef au jus (Bloody Bull). They were tasty. They were pretty successful in setting an ambience of metal music/culture, except for a weird old duck tale movie playing near the front. Service was good. read more

I went here for the first time and I'm a big fan. It's off of Manchester and can be easy to miss. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The menu has plenty of options and several good ones if you're vegetarian. The brunch menu was fun to read through and honestly I don't think anything on it would be bad. I had the stuffed french toast with scrambled eggs. 10/10. The chili cheese fries also slapped; not as much chili as there was cheese, but delicious nonetheless. The interior was so cool and they had a lot of decorations to look at. While it can be a noisy place, it's awesome -- they play metal music and they were screening Stand By Me on their wall. The service was great, the staff was friendly and overall it was a good experience. Kind of a hole in the wall, but worth a visit if you're in St. Louis! read more

I came here on a Sunday for brunch. They have a heated outdoor patio. This was great because I wanted to bring my dog. I came during metal brunch, they do indeed play loud metal music. I ordered the bowel of slop, unappealing name but tasted great. Portion was just right but you may need extra eggs or side if you are very hungry. Overall I'd come back because the patio is very nice and service was quick. But the music does make it a little difficult to carry on a conversation. read more

Low-key bar and restaurant on Manchester in Maplewood with a rear patio & heavy metal-themed brunches. Funny self-deprecating owners that have jokes all throughout establishment. I came for the heavy metal brunch and was not too impressed. The menu had some funny metal-themed dishes, but otherwise it was not too special. I got 2 biscuits with gravy, eggs, and bacon and it was ok. The biscuits were not very good and the eggs were only decent, but the bacon was phenomenal. The service was pretty slow as well. read more

Wow, reading other reviews regarding a similar inappropriate response of management to problems at the restaurant is not filling me with confidence they will be addressed and corrected... We've been to The Crow's Nest several times before and quite enjoyed it. We recently went with two other couples recently for dinner and cocktails/drinks and things were mostly good. Wait staff were very good and the food was good. However, after I finished a specialty cocktail, I ordered a gin & tonic -my rule is generally never order a gin & tonic at a bar, should've known... The waitress brought the drink and it was flat. I sent it back, asking if I could get one with fresh tonic. Apparently, the manager sent a shot glass of tonic back out (?!?!). I tasted it and told the waitress it was flat as well and asked the waitress to take it off the bill. I went to talk with one of our group in town from Kansas City and my wife approached us telling us the manager was not going to take the G & T off the bill, that I could only get another drink... WTF? I don't know if this manager thinks their establishment is just too cool and need not abide by long-established traditions for what constitutes customer service in the food & beverage industry, but being a wanke# to customers is not the way to go about it... As I said the food and wait staff were very good, I had a burger that was $18; it was basically a $10 burger priced at $18. So, you're paying a lot for your food, here. We will not go back while The Crow's nest is being so poorly run. read more

Encountered the laziest, most incompetent, and aloof waitress I have ever seen. So sorry I chose to visit your establishment and bother you while you were sitting around not doing much of anything. I lost my desire to ever return to this place.....just like you lost your tip..Do better. read more

Nutshell: fun decor and vibe, slight twists on pub fare, not my favorite, but y'all may find something you like. This is my second go for the Crow's Nest. In theory I should love this place, but this is the second time I've left underwhelmed. I meandered in on a Sunday just after their brunch ended. The walls are covered in music and movie paraphernalia. Service was prompt and friendly enough. There were a fair few people dining in and Karate Kid was up on the big screen. I decided on the chicken philly with fries and a soda, cuz they weren't kidding about hot girl summer...it was freaking boiling outside. Sliced up chicken breast, peppers and onions, a slather of cream cheese on a hoagie roll, and allegedly jalapeno cheese. I felt like the chicken to veg ratio was 1:2. The chicken that was there was flavorful and juicy. It was then drenched in a nondescript cheese sauce. It was neither spicy from jalapeno or tangy like a traditional Philly cheese. The hoagie seemed a little stale as well. Overall, I was not a fan. Now the waffle fries were perfection. I haven't had a good waffle fry in a while, and this did fit the bill. All in all my bill was about $21. Based on the number of folks, this is a popular place and maybe I just lucked out with bad menu choices...but i think I'm just going to venture elsewhere when I'm in Maplewood. read more

I have only been to Crow's nest for their metal brunch on Saturday and Sunday. It is definitely a hole in the wall bar atmosphere and it's very close quarters inside. During brunch they play metal music and then all of their menu items are metal themed. Both times I've gone I was really excited about my food and the portions are really big which is nice but I think I'm bad at picking what I want because they were a little bland. However, everything my boyfriend got was delicious. It's definitely an experience and would be a great place to go and eat if you're super hung over. read more

We had "Metal Brunch" here recently. It was very busy and loud in the bar itself but we were seated in the back covered patio area. I was afraid that it would be too cold but the patio heaters kept us toasty and it was much quieter so we could easily converse. Our waitress apologized because it was the first brunch that she'd worked and she wasn't familiar with the brunch menu. We got Chili Cheese Fries, Deviled Eggs, Stuffed French Toast, Vegan Burger, and a Caesar Salad. The sides were eggs and breakfast potatoes. Another side of eggs arrived that we realized later were meant for another table. We had to ask twice for water and the eggs came fried instead of scrambled plus our waitress left us alone for too long but the food was good. I particularly liked the crunch that my Caesar had. The other waitresses were friendly, I think ours was just a bit overwhelmed. read more

First time here and it was a good time for sure. The bar just gives the appearance of a typical mid-divey bar vibe but the patio and food is where they really shine. I don't frequent too many places in the county but this is a must if you're going to be in or around Maplewood. The food was good, though I can't recall what I specifically ordered, and there were no leftovers for me to take home. They have a good craft beer selection as well as beers like Stag. If I'm looking to patronize a place outside the city proper that isn't too far out, this is my choice. read more

My dad is a rock star... so when he was coming into town and we were planning his weekend with us someone recommended Metal Brunch. PERFECT; that is exactly the kind of cool thing I need to show my Dad here in St. Louis, especially when he is coming from L.A... We walked right in at noon, sat immediately. Christmas movies were playing on the big screen. In the back towards the restrooms there are tables with old school arcade games inside the glass tabletop. You are likely going to come in and think this place is just a bar, because it does indeed look just like....just a bar... Yes. They were playing Metal music - but not so loud that we couldn't easily talk without any issue. At one point a guy with a dog walked in - that's when I knew this was my kind of place. I wasn't expecting a whole lot; I was just expecting something cool and kind of unique to take my dad to for the breakfast where its just he and I. However, the food was awesome. The mimosas were excellent. I was still feeling a little crappy from the night before, so I went with comfort food basics... eggs, bacon, french toast. Nice and easy. However, my Dad raved and raved about the egg benedict with the bacon in it instead of ham and the fried capers on top. He said "I seriously think that is one of the best Eggs Benedict that I have ever had." Service was prompt and she kept the mimosas coming. I feel like this joint is overlooked for reasons that have nothing to do with the food and its judged more so on its location and appearance. The menu has lots of really funny metal themed punny names for foods. See the photo of my dad holding said menu. Staggerleemosa, Judas Feasts, Decappetizers. LOL! Yes, its a bar. Yes, its a restaurant. Yes, they serve brunch. Yes, the food is great. Yes, it looks like a dive. Go. You will like it. read more

Not going to lie. I was a bit skeptical initially about whether or not I was going to try Crows Nest based off of the reviews that it has received alone. Personally loved my experience that I had here. Crows Nest is truly one of a kind. Located in the Maplewood area. It is a great spot for brunch as well as dinner. The vegan burger is delicious. In fact they offer quite a few vegan options. Which is what drew me to this spot. Also you have to try the hummus. It is roasted walnut and chickpea mousse, garnished with tomato, olive tapenade, and lemon oil served with warm pita bread that is to do for. read more

The lowest rating I've ever given- I hope that my experience was poor only because it was an off night (positive reviews from others support this hope). Walking in, we didn't know what to expect and spent 5-7 minutes standing by the door looking helpless. After failing to find any staff to flag down, we went to the bar and got the bartender's attention to find we had to get our own table and self-seat (not the end of the world, but a sign or staff looking out for people obviously confused in the entrance would help). It was fairly busy and we weren't able to find a table or seats at the bar, so we ordered drinks at the bar and stood. After 15 minutes, a table opened up and we ran for it. We spent 20-30 minutes trying to flag down a staff member to get a menu. After we realized how long we had spent making prolonged eye contact with people we thought may be servers, we resorted to physically waving down someone who appeared to be a staff member leaning on the bar across the room. We asked him if we could get menus, he said yes, and he never returned. Finally, when a group of women and children sat near us, a different staff member appeared and began serving them. We had to grab the poor guy to beg for menus before he headed off again. When ordering, the server was noticeably agitated that we had ordered drinks at the bar and told us it was going to be a pain to figure out the receipts. At this point, we had been in the bar for over an hour, we were starving, we were tired of begging for service, and we wanted out of there. I ordered the deviled eggs that we had gone to crow's nest to try, ate, and got the hell out of there. The deviled eggs were fun and tasted pretty good. Steak and Shake on the way home tasted incredible. read more

My husband and I decided to go to The Crow's Nest for their Metal Brunch since he's a metal fan. I'd been to The Crow's Nest for dinner previously, but never for brunch. Even though it was St. Patrick's Day, the wait was not long to get a table. We were seated in the back where tables are pretty smushed together, but we were just happy to be able to sit and order. The decor is pretty rad, with plenty to eyeball on the walls, and metal music blasts from every which way. Our waitress was really friendly and took our orders right away. I decided to go with an Irish Coffee and their Chicken and Waffles. While the Irish Coffee wasn't very good, they were generous on the alcohol. The Chicken and Waffles were pretty good. The chicken was fantastic! Perfectly crispy exterior with a juicy interior. The portion of chicken was a bit small compared to other joints, so it just left me wishing there were more. The waffle was your standard Belgian, and the berries with the waffle were nice and fresh. Overall, I'm sure we'll be back to try more of the menu. Thanks! read more

Ok, so this was a last minute change to our plans and I'm happy to say I wasn't sad about it! We arrived about 5pm, entered through the back deck area and were immediately seated. The interior is nothing fancy, but comfy with a chill vibe. I had the Veggie Chili Mac (I'm not a vegetarian, it just sounded good in the menu) and my friend had a burger and the smashed Caraway potatoes w/gravy. I wish I'd taken pics but we dived right in! Everything was delicious!! I can't wait to go back and try more menu items! They have a great selection of craft beers and signature cocktails and the staff is pretty awesome and friendly! read more

We went in on a Saturday night and it was hopping! The drinks were strong! We sat and watched aovie of the projection. The service was fast and efficient and the good was above average bar food. I always like it when we find a bar with food that is better than it has to be. We had a Caeser Dalad, Hot Honey Chicken, Cheese Curds, and Fries. Everything was great. My one issue was that it was so loud we couldn't hear each other and I felt like I was shouting at the server because she couldn't hear me. But I think that is just me, nobody else seemed to mind, but my ears were ringing when we left. I would love to try it again at a quieter time. read more

I tell ya, doc, it feels like Ive lost a friend Ive been going here reliably since I moved to STL in 2016 and the slow, painful decline into inedible mediocrity with a side of subpar service has been saddening. This used to top my list of favorite bars in STL but after a final nail-in-the-coffin experience I will not be returning. Veggie burgers burnt on the outside and mushy/stringy on the inside (not a good recipe change if thats the case), an $8 Stag (inflation huh), and our fault for closing the check before the food came out (lesson learned from a 45 minute wait on the check last visit) made this last visit hurt worse than my divorce did. Rest in Peace I know kitschy movies are part of the ~theme~ but having the Confederate flag splashed over the wall above our heads for most of the meal really didn't improve the overall experience. read more

Hidden gem of Maplewood. Going down Manchester rd you can miss this place if your not looking for it. An alternative rock feel with 70's and 80's band posters on the wall and Classic movies & shows are playing on the projector, classics like Ghost busters and golden girls is always a hit with me. Menus come out on old record albums. Not your average bar, definitely not your average food. Not only does this place have very good food, the portions will fill an above average eater. Over the last year they added a giant patio with more dinning tables and a hang out benches. Wait staff and bartenders are always great. Come visit read more

I'd say Crow's Nest is 3.5 Stars and very close to 4. Come on Yelp, figure out away for us to give 1/2 stars it really does make a difference. I was in Maplewood "shopping local" on Manchester Avenue and was hit with the lunch time hunger. I took the opportunity to not only shop local, but to dine local as well and what a better choice then the new Crow's Nest. I was promptly greeted by the bartender as I entered and told I could sit wherever I liked. I took one of the open booths across from the bar and started to take notice of their draft beer taps. They had one of my favorites, Schlafly's Pale Ale so it was a no brain er. After looking the menu over I choose the Cheeseburger with cheddar and Waffle Fries. As the server AKA bartender, (he was doing double duty and doing it well) left my table, I checked my iPhone for the time. Since there have been so many comments about how long it takes, I wanted to time it. Must have been a good day, my burger was at my table in under 15 minutes. I ordered mine medium and it was done to my liking. It was garnished with lettuce, red onion and tomato. I do not know where they get their tomatoes, but for a late fall tomato it was excellent. When presented, I thought the bun was a little over toasted on the grill due to the dark coloring, but I was wrong. It was better then a grilled one at Culver's or Steak - n - Shake. To be fair Crow's Nest, I will tell you now that I will be back. read more
