First visit to The Crown Curry. We arrived late afternoon on a weekday to an empty restaurant, which was nice because we could choose our seats and avoid the hated banquets. Menu is by electronic tablet. Navigating the extensive menu is relatively easy. I do wish our server had asked if we were familiar (we weren't) so we could have taken advantage of the selection saving feature. As it was, ordering four entrees involved repeat look-ups because we kept forgetting the numbers of the dishes we wanted. Next time, we'll know to do that. It also would be great if they cleaned the tablet screens a bit more thoroughly. Drinks: they have them and the selection includes a number of interesting specialty cocktails, plus beer and wine. I ordered a rum/pineapple cocktail as well as a dirty martini. The rum one was a bit weak but the martini hit the spot. Food: Four entrees including three vegetarian and one chicken, all ordered medium, which was probably a mistake as medium apparently means mild. Flavors were decent if a bit lacking in body. Service: no issues. Ambiance: also fine but I wasn't as struck by the decor as some other reviewers. Music is too loud. I'd prefer they just turn it off. And as I mentioned, they have banquet seating, something I never want. Who wants to sit facing a wall? All in all, a solid addition to the dining scene. read more

The Goat Curry and Biryani were packed with authentic Indian flavors and cooked to perfection. Definitely don't miss the Samosa Chaat; it's loaded with savory chutneys and yogurt, and the portion is huge--easily enough for a group of 2-4 to share. Drinks & Vibes: We paired our meal with an icy-cold 20 oz Taj Mahal beer and a Lemon Drop that was mixed perfectly. Service & Location: The service here is exceptional. They treated us like family from the moment we walked in, checking on us just the right amount. Plus, it's super convenient with easy parking right out front on SW Century Drive (across from Cascade West). It's so great to have more options for Indian food here in Central Oregon! This place has some tasty offerings, but I wish the flavors were a little more "deep" and spiced. I thought the butter chicken was pretty bland as was the mattar paneer. Both were heavy with tomato sauce... again, tasty but nothing special. I also tried the naan and roti breads but wouldn't recommend them. They seemed warmed up and not freshly made. The garlic chunks on the garlic naan were too much. I also tried the vegetable pakoras, which were awesome! Happy to see this place, and I will eat there again... I'll just try some other dishes. read more

They were open late on a Saturday, plenty of parking and seating. The food was plentiful and delicious, but might opt for better rice next time. The waitstaff were attentive and helpful, and even the owner dropped by to check and entertain. Music was a bit loud and AC was too much for me, but got used to it. Nice environment, friendly staff, expansive menu. Food...not so much. Ordered four dishes for the table. Each offer was underwhelming and flavorless at best, and the tandoori paneer was not good. Indian curries are notoriously flavorful and delicious, these were not. We've fed my kids internationally since they were tikes...she's 16 now, and when we walked in the door she commented with a smile "this place doesn't smell like curry". Food and service were 4 stars. I'm deducting 1 star because of the $1.50 charge for using credit card that isn't told upfront. We split the bill and I asked to be charged a flat $50. The server tells me AFTER I was charged $51.50 to cover the credit card fee. I was even more annoyed as I was expensing this and my limit was exactly $50, thus I had to expanding this to my accounting team. We were charged another $1.50 for using another credit card. It's a shame because I don't think they are even upfront in telling customers when paying with credit. read more

I'm giving this place 4 star because not all the food was great but our main entree was. We enjoyed a really good chicken dish in a sauce with cashews. Unfortunately I can't remember the name but I Quito's give it 5 stars. The veggie spring rolls were good. Very crisp with great sauces but not a lot of veggies. A 4 star for that. The garlic naan had no flavor so a 1 for that. Atmosphere was very nice and outside was cute too. Service was efficient. If I lived here I'd probably go back and try another main dish but skip the bread. read more

My neighbors and I visited this place for dinner tonight and were a bit startled by the hit and miss in service we were passed off to another server. They missed a naan order we put in and then they finally took it off our bill but it was a little discerning they didn't finish our food order. Even after awhile sitting there waiting and watching the servers plus the dishwasher guy came and eliminated our plates we needed to finish our plates which I thought how rude plus the dishwasher didn't even speak English and designated the table because we still needed our plates and silverware. There is no excuse for the mishaps and therefore we will not be coming back to this particular restaurant. It skewed my ideal Indian restaurant and the high standards it should have reached with our party tonight. I feel as a food critic you and your staff must do better but the food was good just a bit too spicy . Be better to listen to the customer than to do otherwise. read more

After my last (5 star) review, we returned to celebrate a friend's birthday. The food remains excellent, and the service this time was adequate, but far from the prompt, friendly service of our first visit. Most off-putting for the meal was the 'just-a-little-too-loud" Hindi rap music that flooded the dining area. All the customers were over 50, and it seemed like the music was much more for the entertainment of the staff, than the enjoyment of the clientele. Re-thinking future visits. read more

Ordered takeout. Palak Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Veggie Pakora, and garlic naan. All tasted so great. I was struggling to find a good Indian spot in Bend but this will be my new go to. Flavor was perfect and portion size was also better than most. The inside is nicely decorated and has a clean appearance. My pakora didn't come with any chutney but saw that they sell it separately so I will make sure to add it next time. Tamarind Chutney is typically my favorite with the veggie pakora. read more

A very extensive menu (displayed on ipads) of both non-vegan & vegan dishes. Our party of 3 ordered butter chicken, chicken broccoli curry, lamb biryani, garlic naan, masala tea, and mango lassis. Rice was included with the chicken dishes. Everything was well prepared and tasted really good. We enjoyed it all. The favorite was the lamb biryani. We paid cash, but there is a 3% charge for using a credit card. Service was great. The restaurant ambiance is very nice. However our booth seats were in need of repair. Took my daughter and son-in-law while they were in town. You don't get a minute to sit down but someone is asking you for your drink order. We asked for a little time to review the menu. The bottle of wine we asked for was unavailable and they recommended another from the same area. A bottle of Sauvignon Blanc was given. Our order was for Samosas, Shrimp Pakora and 4 separate main courses with rice and Naan. The shrimp pakora was inedible. It was so tough and very difficult to chew. They did however replace it with spring rolls which was appreciated. The main courses were good. We were then presented with the bill. For the bottle of wine that I have seen for $10 in the store we were charged $60!!! You expect it to be double if not triple store prices but $60 is absolutely ridiculous. Be aware of not seeing prices on items. Plus you use a credit card and they add a 3% fee for usage. We will not be returning they have lost our custom due to pure greed and overpricing. read more
