Himalayan Bites is part of a food truck park, not a sit-in restaurant. Got the noodles + momo on top special. It was delicious! The momos were juicy and perfectly seasoned, the wrapping was perfectly chewy as well. I got the noodles at a 0 spice level (I know, but I find Taco Bell mild sauce spicy). They were perfect! Just a hint of a kick, great seasoning and cooked just right! The salad that came with it was also really good. Keep in mind the noodles aren't in a broth. Had the sauces, and definitely dipped my noodles in the white-green garlic sauce. A+. Also, SO MUCH FOOD for the price. I couldn't finish it all, but I wish I could have. So yummy! The sha-momo's are to die for! I've been going to On Tap for years and kind wrote off the food carts, but this place is awesome! The sha-momo's are so good! The egg forward shell is delicious, the meat inside is tender and moist, and the soup is very flavorful. What was unexpected was how tasty the side salad was that came with the dish. This is the third time I have tried the food at Himalayan Bites. Had the chicken curry with rice the first time and I fell in love. They did not americanize their seasonings and spices. I thought I had found my spot. Ordered the same thing the 2nd time I went. Took them an hour to serve my food. This time, it tasted like they accidentally dropped a whole container of salt and curry into the dish. It was inedible, so I decided to stay away for a while. Both were delicious and a generous portion. The spice load was the perfect blend of savory, slightly sweet and spicy flavors. And the sides of fresh greens and nutritious short grain brown rice made this a delicious, healthy meal. We tried the dumplings, which were just OK. The service was friendly and timely, especially considering we were there on a Saturday and during the grand opening of the first dog food truck in Bend, the Hungry Hound, which drew in a large crowd of hungry people with dogs galore. Awesome food cart. Delicious, unique food, and very friendly service. My wife and I eat at Himalyan Bites at On Tap pretty much every week, usually the Noodle dish. The flavors are bold, and very complex, with a perfect amount of spices, but not over done. It's a great combination of spice, heat, and texture. We request a 7 on the heat scale and it turns out perfect every time, just enough heat to put a little sweat on my brow! The owner Tenzin is so friendly, we like to chat with him if he isn't busy. It took almost an hour to get my meal! Apparently the equipment was malfunctioning, but instead of informing me of this, I kept waiting. I did go back to check after half an hour, and was told another 5 minutes which turns out to be 20 minutes. Pros: large serving of food. I got the noodles and beef and the pot stickers. Two could have shared this meal. The noodles were a spicy curry. If you like spicy curry, you might like this. It was too much for me. The potstickers were good. I would have appreciated being told about the wait and problems when I went to order. Now I won't go back. read more

Told myself I'd give Himalayan Bites a second chance before reviewing, and after that second chance, the three star review was cemented. So many questions! Why is everything served with some kind of ranch/dill dressing and tomato salsa? I'm admittedly not a Himalayan food expert but I have eaten it numerous other places and never encountered these very jarring western flavors. The noodle dish is, just as others have said, overly salted. Other dishes are overly oily and lack any real flavor/interest. I am a huge supporter of new and varied styles of food in the Bend area, and I hope that they will make changes for the better, but I'm not coming back for a long while unless there is a substantial menu revamp. read more

Up here for my son's annual lacrosse tournament, and the thing to do while in Bend is going to a microbrewery or tap house after our games are done. This time we ended up at On Tap. It's a great place that's very family-friendly and they have a wide selection of beers plus, as seems to be the norm in Bend, they have food trucks; one of which is Himalayan Bites. Wanting something different, I ordered the Shaapta which is a spicy stir-fried beef dish tossed with green onions and bell peppers, seasoned with a variety of Himalayan spices and red pepper, and garnished with fresh cilantro. The dish comes with a nice salad with a vinaigrette dressing and a scoop of brown rice. Included with the meal are two dipping sauces. One is much like a salsa and the other seemed like a cilantro cream sauce. I'm not sure, but I preferred the cream sauce. It was wonderful. BTW, if you like spicy food like I do, when they ask you how spicy you want it, tell them to make it really spicy. Otherwise, they'll probably dumb it down. When I asked for very spicy, the guy asked me how hot was the hottest I've ever had, and when I described a Thai basil chicken I've had in the past, plus a Habanero/Scotch Bonnet pepper sauce that I make that has 50 to 60 peppers per quart. He just smiled and said that I'll really like this dish then. I was not at all disappointed. Though the pepper heat was not that strong, it did build up over time to a pleasant burn. And hey! What better way to soothe the heat than with another beer! The Pilsner I had with my meal was a perfect complement to the dish, but I really loved it with the IPA. The bitterness of the hops really brought out the sweetness in the peppers. Without needing to say more, I highly recommend this truck if you're over at On Tap. I heard they're also at Crux, so if I happen to go there, I'll try a different dish. I don't think I can go wrong with Himalayan Bites. read more

I ordered their vegan veggie dish and it was incredible! It had mixed veggies cooked into a coconut milk sauce, served with brown rice and green salad. The veggies today(I'm sure they vary) were zucchini, squash, red and yellow bell peppers, broccoli, and diced tomatoes. The salad greens were ULTRA fresh with julienned carrots and it also had: pepitas, sunflower seeds, and craisins. SO much yummier than greens alone! The rice was perfectly cooked. I asked for the veggies to be SPICY, I said "make it a seven" and that "I like it super hot." I let him know, "it's a problem". I'm always worried about getting "white-girl hot" which is mildAF, but he nodded in recognition and said "that's a good problem to have" (smoothAF, BTW). He nailed my expectations for a SEVEN. From the reviews it sounds like your experience depends on who's working on the particular day you eat here. We had a terrible experience. I was given a buzzer that was apparently broken. After watching several people behind us get their food, we went to ask about ours, which had been sitting there getting cold and dried out (our dumplings were like rubber). My husband took it but it was absolutely terrible so he brought it back. The girl working the window said she'd "warm it up" and then could be heard complaining about her job and saying "I don't care, I'm tired and want to go home" as my husband walked away. Wow. She brought our meal out after I think they put it back in the pan and let it get even more dried out and lukewarm. Aside from that, the spices were overdone. As someone else said, grossly overly salty. Yuck. Won't give this place another chance. Really over the terrible service and rudeness. read more

Really appreciated the chef making me a vegan noodle dish even though it wasn't on the menu. Super friendly and fun interaction! Food quality and quantity was right in line with the price. Plus, the spice/flavor ratio was on point. My partner ordered a 9/10 and it was almost a little too spicy for me, but still enjoyable. I ordered a 5/10 but it was more like a 7, relative to my partner's. I think the chef gives you the spice level he thinks you can handle. Definitely recommend if you see these guys posted up. Good things come in small packages. Tinzen is a genius bringing the flavors of Nepal to good old Bend Oregon. He is constantly adding new awesome. Additions to his menu, lighter fare and unexpected flavor. With exciting combinations and creations. I'm especially fond of the potato bomb. And and sort of dumpling. I had the chef's special beef noodle dish and my wife had a stir fried sliced beef dish with rice and salad. All the rice is brown rice, which is awesome. All dishes can be ordered at any spice level. This did not taste like truck food. This tasted like something we needed a reservation for. No sticky sweet sauces, just (clearly) freshly made food with fresh spices! We were both stuffed and completely satisfied! Fantastic family owned and operated ethnic food truck! We ordered our food, and they said it would take about 20 minutes. We waited around 25 minutes before asking how much longer it would take. Next they said that it would be another 10-15 minutes. So after waiting a while we finally got our food, but unfortunately dropped our salad on the way to our seat. While eating the Sha Momo we found a couple hairs, which was not very appetizing. First time having Himalayan/Tibetan cuisine. Decided to try the Sha Momo, dumplings. I l've hafld Chinese dumplings but their dumplings had a deeper flavor complex, which was awesome. There was a sauce to dip them in which seemed to have cilantro in it that completed the dumplings. The side salad was refreshing with cranberries and dressing. Will be back to try their other dishes. A delicious meal! This is a great addition to the richness of our food in Bend. Ingredients are fresh and well-sourced. Food was cooked fast and also fresh. The owners were very hospitable. I ordered the veggie momos and the beef stir-fry to share with my girlfriend. It's a fairly dry stir-fry, which makes it different from other Asian stir-fries. Great mixture of rices too. read more

I think their menu varies in quality based on the day. However, I had the vegan veggie dish with salad and rice, and was quite underwhelmed. If you want overcooked veggies that have been sitting in a pot and warmed up then plated next to salad so that your salad is now wilty, then this is place is for you. I have had Himalayan food in other states and places and this mush does not even compare. That being said, I did see someone get their spicy noodles once and it looked relatively fresher, and the person seemed to be enjoying it. Maybe they just don't excel at making veggie dishes.
