I had heard some good things about Crispy Coop and decided to give it a try. Overall, I was pretty underwhelmed and thought the food was below average. I tried the chicken sandwich meal with potato wedges and mac and cheese as the sides. They offer chicken as either traditional, Tennessee mild or Nashville hot. Great food and even better service. The food was surprisingly good. I am a Mobile Notary and I was completing an appointment nearby. I was at the light and smelled a delicious and enticing aroma. It's a beautiful spring day so the window in my car was down. I looked around to try to determine where the smell was coming from and low and behold I saw the sign for this restaurant. I thought the name was brilliant BTW. Anyway I turned my car around and headed in. I was greeted warmly, took a look at the menu and ordered the wing dinner with greens and Mac & cheese. The wings- fried perfectly and seasoned very well. No complaints. As you see in the pic they all gone bro. The greens - I'm guessing the were collards and they were great. Cuz of convenience, we keep coming here and we've never been disappointed. From past experience, our "go-to" order is 2 orders of chicken, one being Nashville Hot, and one of TN mild. The hot was just the right level of spicy for "spiceheads " and the mild had enough flavor and heat for those with tamer taste buds. Our most favorite side is mac n' cheese so a large order is a good portion to split amongst 3 or 4 people. My boyfriend took me here after he had lunch the day before. He was talked nonstop about how great Crispy Coop is. We went the next day and dined in. The menu is simple enough with chicken options, sides, and desserts. We got the chicken tenders with two sides. Let me warn you it is a fair amount of food that can easily be shared or have leftovers. It's GREAT! The only reason for the four star review is that they forgot to cook our food. After waiting for upwards of 20 minutes while everyone else around us got their food we finally went up and asked. They said it was coming right out as they quickly went to the back to cook it. They did offer us a free dessert which was very nice to help rectify the situation. The food itself was really tasty. The chicken had a flavorful breading with a juicy center. Good food, piss poor service. Ordered for pickup and when I arrived I found out somebody else picked up my food by mistake. Which is fine mistakes happen but all they did was look at me and shrug without offering any apology or recourse. When I pressed them on it, what I assumed to be the manager (heavy set man with tats) came out and told me I had an attitude and threatened to call Uber and have them block me from the restaurant for being rude and cursing (which I did not). I told them calmly to please just make the food I paid for. They did and I waited for it and left without causing a scene. We couldn't really eat our food after that because of a feeling that they may have spat in it so we just threw it out in the end. If you're picking up and they gave your food to somebody else by mistake then just take it up with Uber or whatever because you're just going to get threatened and gaslit by the folks behind the counter. read more

I have been meaning to give this place a try as I pass it every time I go to my neighborhood Kroger! I was able to easily order online through the restaurant's website and it was ready for pickup within 30 minutes. This review gets 4 stars from me because the sandwich toppings and bun didn't compliment the chicken and the sides were a disappointment BUT the chicken itself gets 5 stars. I'm a huge chicken sandwich lover so I was excited to try CC's version. I chose the Tennessee mild seasoning and it still had a kick, which I thought was perfect. The chicken itself was so moist and tender. The bun was very buttery and rich, a little too much for my liking. The coleslaw is a creamy type and I felt like it took away from the taste of the chicken. Next time I think I will get either chicken tenders or the sandwich without slaw to really appreciate the hot chicken! I got to choose two sides so I went with Texas Potatoes and cornbread. The potatoes were very large wedges with not much seasoning. Too much potato to surface area ratio for my preference. The cornbread was quite dry. I ended up heating it in the microwave and slabbing some butter on. I think I made a mistake I'm not getting the mac n cheese because I heard a few days later that it is the best side to get! I have long been a fan of fried chicken, and I love to try new chicken restaurants when they open. Looking at the reviews for The Crispy Coop, I see that it has existed for over a year now. So, I'm sort of sad that I had not tried it before today. In fact, I only noticed that it existed a couple of weeks ago since it is not on a main road that I often drive down. Once I saw it, though, it stayed in my mind, and I had to check it out. Today, a Sunday, I walked in at around noon, fully expecting the place to be packed and that I would have to wait in line as my stomach growled and slowly ate itself in hunger. Luckily for me, that was not the case. In fact, I was somewhat surprised at how few people there were. The two people ahead of me ordered food to go, but I decided to eat in the restaurant. As I sat, waiting for my food to be prepared, a few others walked in and placed to-go orders, and I was happy to see that the restaurant actually did seem to be doing good business. I just wish a few more people had decided to eat in -- I was a little lonely in there by myself! I ordered the chicken tender dinner with cole slaw and Texas potatoes. If given the choice of heat, I usually order medium. I stepped out on a ledge today and ordered hot. I had to wait maybe 10 or 12 minutes before my food came out, which was not bad at all. I had expected chicken tenders maybe the size of what you get at Raising Cane's, but no, they were huge! In fact, I ate two and brought the other two home with me. They were temperature hot, so I knew they had just been made fresh; and they were Nashville hot as well. My sinuses got a good clearing out as I sat there eating. The slaw was neither too creamy nor too vinegary -- I thought it was as near to perfect as cole slaw can get. And the potato wedges were also delicious, though I wish I had been given maybe two or three more. My general conclusion: the food is great. The restaurant itself was clean, and the guy behind the counter who served me was super nice. I wish I had taken note of his name. I didn't check out the restroom, so I can't comment on that. Will I be back? Yes! Up to now, Hot Chicken Takeover has been at the top of my list of chicken restaurants in Columbus. As of today, The Crispy Coop is up there competing with HCT for my business. Great little fried chicken shop in a very strange lot next to a Kroger. Its pretty easy to drive right by but its definitely worth a shot if you like some classic Southern basics. Can you do chicken breast correctly? Yes, but dark meat will still be more flavorful and moist done the same way. Anyways to the actual food: I got the hot chicken as this guy is all about the spice. It wasn't really spicy to me but the chicken was fried very well and had a good crunch and flavor to it. The pieces aren't the largest pieces but the meal as a whole still lasted me the entire day. As for the sides, I got the collard greens and potato wedges. WARNING: collard greens are NOT vegetarian, cooked with pork, as is expected for Southerners. They were however very tasty and a large portion is given. Careful if taking your collard greens to go as they do hold quite a bit of liquid and it spilled across to the rest of my food. That was on me though, not the Crispy Coop. The potato wedges were amazeballs, battered, crispy, and fluffy af on the inside. It was almost like eating fried mashed potatos with a bit more texture. The BAD: The chicken wasn't very memorable, reminded me of regular grocery store fried chicken. This is probably because I got the traditional opposed to the mild. The UGLY: I only got four wedges (and that's considered a double order). I mean yeah they were thick, but still four for a double order is kinda crazy. The wedges also lacked flavor. Just the right sweetness and no artificial flavor (you guys know what I mean- the flavor 75% of cole slaw acquires that is just bland or fake and blends together). Pretty deep cups in the box meant the portioning of slaw and macaroni was about a cup each which is nice. The macaroni cake in large spirals and was pretty good from my non Mac n cheese loving perspective- definitely a peppery flavor. Added a cornbread on the side- the cashier said after I asked if it was dry that it typically isn't but depends on who makes it. Today it was moderately moist- perfectly so- and rather dense. Great cornbread as if it was any denser or more moist it'd be corn cake! They two have gender neutral restrooms. The chicken: it was nice and hot and crispy. Perfectly greasy fried meat. I ordered the Tennessee mild since I am a wimp and don't do spicy stuff. It was however still spicy. I asked the cashier and he said the mild flavor still "has a kick to it". Cue me chugging lemonade and ordering a honey bun cake piece to quell the heat. I really don't do spicy, folks, so BE WARNED that the "mild" here is still spicy! The fact that this was not explained anywhere is a huge negative for me in what otherwise was a nice meal. I don't think I'll ever return (much to my dismay because I love fried chicken and I live in walking distance) simply because they have no chicken mild enough for me! The chicken comes in various meal choices: dark meal (2 thighs, 2 legs), white meal (2 breasts), half chicken/chicken snack (leg, thigh, breast, wing), 6 wings, chicken strips, or a sandwich. The meal comes with 2 sides. There are 3 levels of spice to the chicken: traditional, Tennessee mild, and Nashville hot. I got Tennessee mild and my husband got Nashville hot. If you like your food spicy, I must say the way to go is Nashville hot. The mild was not spicy at all and the hot was not nearly as spicy as other places I've tried hot chicken. Next time, I will just get the hot. The chicken was perfectly warm, crispy, and moist. The cornbread was my favorite side. The mac and cheese was good too. A heads up, the greens actually have pork meat in them (it does not say that on their menu, so beware). A friend had ordered that without knowing and had to have it switched out. I wish there was a ranch sauce available because I love dipping the chicken in something. There are hot sauces and ketchup available next to the fountain drinks. The sweet tea is not included with the meal. Went here yesterday and I'm telling you, this place NEVER misses. I placed an order online to be picked up because I had a fairly big order and their website is very manageable. I was craving some meaty protein and just happen to be in Grandview, so The Crispy Coop won the Eeny Meeny Minny Mo war. I picked the Dark Dinner, two thighs and two legs with two sides of choice ( I went with their mac n cheese and coleslaw). I like the very thin crispy layer of breading - don't know what is used at TCC, but it didn't not take away from the meaty poultry flavors; very good, and so daggon juicy! I'm gonna say it: TCC's mac is better than HCT. While I love, love, love HCT, TCC's mac has a better well-rounded cheese profile; definitely more creamy, too. I'm not much of a coleslaw fan, period, but this wasn't bad. Perhaps less on the sweet, creamy white sauce (would make it a little more "health conscious", but this is more of a personal preference, and TCC seems to be doing fine and dandy with what their serving, so stick to it and more power to you! While I coped a squat and ate in-house, there was a steady stream of pick-up and to-go orders flowing in ad out - a great sign of loyalty and general health of the business in these current pandemic times. I am a little curious how the corn bread is here (I'm kinda a sucker for it when I see it on a menu, which imo is not too often). Staff was very polite and didn't rush me when deciding what to order. I have been to the famous Hattie B's in Nashville countless times along with many other fried chicken places and in my opinion this is the best fried chicken meal I have ever had. Got the Nashville hot with a side of Ohio hot honey for dipping sauce and my sides were Cole slaw and Mac and cheese. These were juicy and flavorful tenders! I was skeptical about the Cole slaw because it was a different looking slaw but that too ended up being the best slaw I've ever had. The Mac and cheese was spot on too. My friend got the mashed potatoes and he said they tasted like KFC's from back in the good days before they went to sh*t. Great chicken sandwich and sides! The fried chicken breast was crispy and flavorful and the creamy coleslaw on top pairs very well. The Nashville Hot flavor was not too spicy, but that could be because of the coleslaw and sandwich bun. Sides: - The mac and cheese is made with cavatappi pasta and white cheese. So good. - The cornbread was very moist and sweet. Loved it! - The texas potatoes are just big fried potato wedges. Not bad, but would taste better with more seasoning or a dipping sauce. The food was absolutely delicious Love ya pops! Definitely best chicken in Columbus and all the sides were great!

This might be the best fried chicken in the city. The hot heat level was just slightly spicy, and that was perfect for me. Mac and cheese was excellent. Thought the mashed potatoes were just okay. Love the 80s music playing during dinner time. Banana pudding was really tasty too! read more
