First review of 2026 and first visit here for me! We headed to Grandview to check out The Crispy Coop for lunch. This place was described as a farm to table chicken joint and also mentions being "rooted in the flavors of the locally loved Uncle Nick's Greek Fried Chicken". I am not totally sure what that reference means, but I can say the food and chicken was good. I had the medium heat fried chicken sandwich and went with mac and cheese plus the mashed potatoes and gravy for my sides. Everything was good. Mashed potatoes needed some salt and pepper and I never add salt to anything, but after that and pouring some gravy on them it was perfect. The heat level on my was great. I went with Medium and may try the Nashville Hot next but that medium was a just right. My partner loves fried chicken and ordered the two-piece meal with a wing and breast, no heat, and enjoyed it as well. No complaints there. Service was the best. The guy that took our order was so personable and friendly and walked us through the options. After we ordered, even brought the food to the table once it was ready. Everything was hot and fresh. Soda machines were down but sure they'll get it fixed soon, and the restrooms were worn and really cold, but none of that was a big deal really. Overall a good experience and a solid option if you are craving some fried chicken or looking for a good chicken sandwich. My first review of this place will also be my last review because they are getting ready to close. . Suggested by a friend for traditional southern taste, i checked out Crispy Coop. The place was packed early for a Saturday but I found out because they were closing. I ordered a 2 piece meal with Collard Greens and Mac & Cheese. The seasoning on the chicken was amazing! I ordered a half chicken on Uber Eats for my wife and when she got it the chicken was undercooked. She is currently vomiting. If her conditions get worse i will take her to the ER and if they tell me its food poisoning I will notify the health department or file a lawsuit I understand mistakes happen but when I called the restaurant in a polite way to just simply warn them about their food before anyone else gets sick, the employee refused to let me speak to a manager and hung up on me. Also declining my following phone calls. Please train your staff properly and please inspect your food so no one else gets sick. Last night was the last time for this restaurant. The chicken was over cooked, dry, hard. It was a disappointing experience. The company that owns this has put zero effort into designing the parking lot and everyone just parks randomly, making it unsafe. The side dishes from here were good but they are extremely basic and the fried chicken is the main show. What a let down... I've been here a couple of times and the food does not disappoint. The service is great and the wait time to get your food is not that long. The staff is friendly and very attentive and willing to explain the menu to you. The few times I've been in there. It hasn't really been too busy so finding a place to sit is not that difficult. Had a really disappointing visit last week. The chicken was extremely dry (wife said it tasted like made yesterday) and the bone-in pieces were tiny. I would have been disappointed if this was from the grocery hot bar, but especially from a place specializing in fried chicken. Collard greens were also gritty like it wasn't washed. So today I was able to stop and enjoy The Crispy Coop. I started with the 2Pc. dark with a side of Mac and cheese. I went with the heat level of Tennessee Hot, it was a very mild heat, next time I'll kick it up a bit. The Mac and cheese was very good from earlier pictures I saw I thought it might have been boxed. Was I ever wrong this was homemade and had a great taste to it. Next was the chicken and waffles which were very delicious. The waffles were lite and fluffy, and the chicken strip were juicy and very crisp. A friend at the table had ordered the greens and I was able to try these, next time I want my own, sorry the picture doesn't reflect the serving size she gave me just a few bites.The service was extremely good and everyone was very friendly. Stopped in for lunch during a work training. We arrived around 11:40 and just beat the lunch crowd. I ordered the 6 piece wing dinner (Nashville hot) with greens and coleslaw. The chicken was fried perfectly. The Nashville hot isn't really hot but had a good flavor. The greens had ham and we're good. The slaw is mayonnaise based, it was a little different than what I was expecting. It was loaded with kale and cabbage. It wasn't bad but not for me. Nashville hot wasn't that spicy but was most likely better than the other flavors, but that is just me I like spicy, the food took awhile or maybe I'm just impatient. Honestly, I'm very disappointed in this restaurant given their high rating. It was being raved about on Yelp, but I don't see the appeal or the justification for the high scores. The service was acceptable and it's nice that they cook the chicken to order. In addition, the restaurant was overall clean and there were some TVs. However, that was about the extent of the good things I have to say. The tenders were just okay, nothing spectacular, and the sauce was not my cup of tea. It smelled okay, but didn't jive with the chicken or really anything. I asked for another sauce to try, the Arizona ranch, which cost $0.50, and was equally as disappointing. As for the Texas potatoes, they were...weird. Jonos are usually more like potato wedges, but these were basically 1/4 of a potato in a tasteless breading. The mac & cheese was good, nothing to write home about, but definitely the best part of the meal. Finally, the strawberry honey bun cake, which was basically a strawberry infused coffee cake and the flavors didn't mix well, to me. If you want my opinion, there's a Cane's five minutes from this place and you can get two box combos for what I paid for this meal. Overall, this'll be my first and last time visiting. read more

Picked up food for my dad's birthday. I walked in and placed my order. I was told the food would be ready in 8 to 10 minutes, and received my order within that time. For my dad I ordered the Dark Meat Dinner with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, and Corn Bread. I went with the Tennessee Mild spice on the chicken. My dad really liked the chicken, stating it had the right amount of spice. On my order I went with Chicken Tender Dinner with Texas Potatoes and Corn Bread. I went with traditional for the chicken. We got a big side of mac for her, and she liked it. I got a traditional dark dinner with coleslaw and greens, and some hot wings. The wings were wing wings, no drums, and the heat is about HCT's warm. Good, perfectly cooked. The traditional fried it great: crispy, tender inside. The greens, perfectly cooked and with tons of meat, were great, the slaw too, though some might not like the style: creamy, and with spinach mixed in I think. Big portions, decent value. Definitely will be back. Oh, and the honey cake. Not as great as I'd hoped but still very good. Crispy on top, kind of like coffee cake. Yellow cake in the middle. Honey on the bottom. I want to say I did a review of the food from here previously. I see not too much has changed. I think the food is tasty here and there, the size portion of the chicken is definitely off. So I'm not sure why it's just the to go orders that get the short end of the stick. But y'all need to do better. I'm sorry to say this is the first time I've been led astray by online reviews. I don't find myself in this area often but needed to grab a quick dinner before the CBJ game so thought we'd give them a try since they have such high ratings. Unfortunately I don't really know why, based on my experience. Ordering was very easy and smooth, but in my opinion the meals should come with a drink, even if they have to bump the price up by a dollar or so. Now to the food. I had the tenders meal with the Texas potatoes and their mac and cheese. Added a side of the Crispy Sauce, a soda, and the strawberry honey bun cake. All of this totaled $27, not quite as affordable as I thought it would be. The meals should really include one sauce as who wants to eat plain chicken? Then maybe do 50 cents for additional sauces. But that's just me, and maybe I feel this way because I regret spending 50 cents on the Crispy Sauce which was not enjoyable for me. It smells like Chick Fil A sauce but doesn't taste anything like it. I didn't care for it and ended up using ketchup for everything. The chicken was fine, juicy and hot in temperature, but very lacking in flavor. I know I got the original no spice but these tasted like just flour coated chicken. I also am not a fan of when chicken is cut/served in the way these were. It makes them huge and challenging to eat. The Texas potatoes are HUGE and are oddly breaded. I've had JoJos before but usually they are battered, not breaded. And these had absolutely no crisp, not my favorite. The high spots were the mac and cheese and the strawberry honey bun cake. The mac and cheese noodles were perfectly cooked and the sauce had a nice cheesy flavor. The cake was dense but not in a bad way and I liked the strawberry flavor. I did like the Texas potatoes which I would say is 3.5/5 and the coleslaw is not bad but not something I would crave 3/5. I appreciate the service,too. They are very prompt and nice.
