Four of us stopped in for lunch today before we went to the theater and all of agreed the food and service were terrific! Two of us had the fish bowl. Haddock was lightly breaded, cooked just right, not greasy at all. Very good tasting as well! Fries were standard fare but all was served promptly and piping hot. The other meals were the chicken bowl and the scallops. All nicely breaded and very tasty. Directly on the Lake, this hybrid bar/restaurant (Bar in Front, Full service restaurant and menu in back) had some huge portions and great food. We were there the night of the Superbowl and although the game was on the service was incredible. A great way to digest afterward is to take a walk along the docks that line the banks of Eustis. We sat in the front bar area, not realizing there was outside seating and a back room. The owner saw us and informed us of the additional seating. We decided to move to the back room which overlooks the lake. The owner helped carry our drinks and menus. The gator appetizer was very tender and tasty, the best we have had in many years. We ordered mild wings which were disappointing. They were not crispy and not much flavor. We ordered the fried fish basket which was FABULOUS! Relaxed, inviting and a hometown feel - even for out-of-town visitors who never set foot in Eustis. The outdoor seating is casual and pretty comfortable. They had fans running to create a little breeze, (July in Florida). Service was amazing! I couldn't decide on grilled or fried catch-of-the-day. Our server offered to bring me a half-serving of each! Fish was delicious and the burger my friend got was outstanding. I really wish I could remember the name of our server, because she was amazing - friendly, thoughtful, suggesting but not pushy, and totally honest. Turns out, she was also the manager-on-duty that night - very appropriate. I'd go back there anytime I'm in Eustis again just because the first experience I had there was so positive. Waitress was friendly and prompt, but the food was not good. Ordered grilled wings that needed to be cooked longer. Was afraid they may not have been completely done. Ordered a basket of fries for $3.99, and it came out with so few fries in the basket I thought there was a mistake. The fries were old and soggy so we ordered a fresh batch. They came back hot and crispy but still not even covering the bottom of the basket. Literally 15 fries. It could hardly even be described as a side of fries, much less an entire basket! We were told beers were 2 for 1, but it seemed more like they automatically charge you for two regularly priced beers. Not a deal. We won't be returning. read more

After enjoying a great day on the water with Lake Adventures we stopped at Crazy Gators, which is located in the same building. We choose to sit outside and enjoy a nice sunny day with a nice breeze. Had family in town last night and ate here. Food was good; fried sea scallops were light and tasty, fish and scrimp good, and turkey club very good. Service was SLOW. Got drinks and orders in pretty fast but waitress said orders were mixed up and they were busy. We waited over an hour for food. Didn't need these excuses and others received their orders who came in after us. We only had six people and other tables were just as large. We chose the Crazy Gator based on reviews, and the fact that there was a good deal on restaurant.com. The Gator is right on the edge of a beautiful park in Eustis, so we made an afternoon of it, before meeting friends for dinner. First impressions are that the Crazy Gator provides a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere with high ceilings, rustic decor, and a nice outdoor seating area. We dined inside, and enjoyed a number of television screens around the room, and an inviting atmosphere. Shane was our server, and he had a fun sense of humor (necessary, when dealing with our group). He was attentive and helpful, and we would return just for his service alone. I recommend the chips and queso (delicious) as an appetizer. Our meals arrived and we were served generous portion sizes and pleasant presentation. My friends had steak tips, and they said they were flavorful and tender. I had boneless buffalo wings (the buffalo sauce wasn't all that spicy, and had a strong garlic presence). My wife had peel and eat shrimp (she said this as a little bland, so she would probably get breaded shrimp next time). Overall a nice down-to-earth bar/restaurant, with good value, a solid menu, and excellent service, set right on the edge of a beautiful relaxing lake-side park. A tourist trap? In Eustis, FL? Uh, not even close! What it is is a great family place with simple but yummy food. It has a totally laid back atmosphere & a wide variety of clientele. The Buckeye Room caters to the local OSU fans & the manager, Becky, is awesome! Don't expect fancy or gourmet. Do NOT waste your time (unless you like that kind of thing - this is your place): we actually said on the one visit they had it - best queso ever, but 2 of 3 times we've been there they didn't have any made. How does a restaurant forget to make something they hope to sell? Overall, it is a clean enough place kind of on the water, but not family-friendly in the least - you could make it more positive by saying the waitresses almost wore their clothes - in other words it could be a laidback really redneck Hooters. They have a pretty doable menu when you consider some I've seen. Out of that menu, and in addition to the famous queso they forgot to prepare, they didn't have salad dressing that went with my salad, so I wound up with raspberry dressing on a southwest style salad - more than a little UGH! Not very customer-oriented either - I'm a vegetarian and got the salad without chicken, cheese, or sour cream. Check came and the salad "is the same price no matter what you get on it." So, in essence I paid $12+ for a so-so house salad with the wrong dressing. Interesting, so they didn't bother with a business plan or business school. thinking about it - I wonder if they knew they'd be open today...Hey, since we weren't mostly drunk like the others, maybe we were in the wrong after all. This place is absolutely fabulous ! It looks like it liked by locals - the bar was full and not just with drinking people and also with eating. Good sign we thought and went further. The dining room was huge and we noticed several other seating areas on the decks. Our waitress was right there, smiling ready to serve. The menu was interesting ( but we saw it already on line ) and we quickly made our choice : the plate of scallops, house salad and 2 drinks. The dishes arrived fast and were HUGE! We divided the salad, that looks pretty with plenty of leaves, little tomatoes, feta cheese , ham and turkey there as well. 2 sorts of dressings to complement. Then our scallops arrived. Would you believe - 9 pieces with plenty French fryers at $10.99 ?! And they were sea scallops of decent medium size and grilled and ...very very tasty. What else could you wish. We love that place. Don't waste your time or money. Swore I would never go back to this place. Checked before we went to see if they had potato skins. Website said they had potato skins. Get there no potato skins. No big deal. Service was terrible. Ordered their smothered nachos with chicken not chili. What I got was a plate with some chips smothered with lettuce and a few chunks of chicken. NO CHEESE !!!!! Two litthe containers of what was supposed to be sour crème except it looked more like coffee creamer I think because they were so old the sour crème was spoiled. They sell Draft beer two for the price of one. They bring both beers at the same time in plastic mugs, while you are drinking one beer the other one gets warm. DO NOT waste your time or money. Avg service. Seafood gumbo was very good yo taste but don't like to see imitation crab in it. House fish (stuffed with crab) was tasty but let half way undercooked. Staff handled situation very professionally and took the charge off w/o any hesitation. Lastly, one of the best tasting Caesar salads I've had in two yrs. 3.5 stars. Visited there in mid march of this year and swore that we would never go back. Prime rib was tasteless and was just awful awful but decided to give it one more try. We went for their haddock on their small menu and was told that they no longer offer but are now offering pangasius which I found to be a very cheap white and tasteless Vietnamese river catfish YAK !!! Not wanting a flaky white fish, kind unknown by waitress, I ordered sautéed scallops. These were the worst scallops and I cannot describe their taste. Manager stated that they were sautéed in butter, pepper, and garlic on the grill and I should of complained about them before we paid the bill. We went there at 4:00 and service was good. At 5 they got slammed with 1 bartender trying to wait on 60 people. she finally got help but he was very slow. we waited 15 minutes to get a second drink and our tab. we asked 3 times and were told OK and ignored. Food was good but if you want drinks good luck after getting the 1st one. They need more bartenders or servers. We were not impressed with the bar. If we ever go back we will sit outside where you can get waited on. It was obvious that one of the servers helping in the bar was under the influence. He moved like a snail. Long wait for food, brought me the wrong meal when finally arrived. My husband was half way through his meal when I got the correct meal. The meals were very good until....My husband found a large glob of hair on his fish. Let's start with food. We had the app combo, which is all fried food... It was okay, portions are uneven. A lot of onion straws, only 2 jalapeño poppers, subbed the potatoes for chicken but only got 2, and I think 3 or 4 cheese sticks. Then we ordered the peel and eat shrimp, well can't really mess that up. Cocktail sauce didn't really have a lot of flavor. All the dipping sauces are generic. The restaurant is old, needs a good cleaning. We sat by the windows so we could see the lake. This was my first trip to Eustis so I had no clue where to eat. My friend recommended the Crazy Gator to get a good burger. I actually ended up getting the all you can eat fried fish. Wow! It was delicious, so light and fluffy. Tasted super fresh too. I was pleasantly surprised. I also had the queso which was nice and spicy. It was all good. The beer is cheap too and 2 for 1s after 3pm just made it all the more worth it. Glad I stopped in and I'll be coming back next time I'm in town. read more

The wait staff is friendly and outgoing, the cooks are great, the owner is a real down to earth guy. They will bend over backwards to make sure your dining experience is perfect. This is the place to be for their Friday Nite Fish Fry. It's all you can eat Alaskan White Fish. Yummy in my tummy. I mean you get the biggest fillets topped with fries and a dab of cole slaw. I usually can get a second order of which I have to share with my husband, because I cant eat it all. It is so good. The place itself is a quaint old style beach front property. Outside bar, looking out on the water, inside is booths and tables, with a laid back aura. Not being from here, I've only experienced this place for dinner and not drinks and or just hanging out. But I'm sure it wouldn't disappoint. I have to say thanks to Moni and Frank for the two T-Shirts they sent us, they were really cool and we really enjoy wearing them in TX. I feel bad I can't share what else they have on the menu since every time I've gone I've had the fish. I do know my mother in law likes the burgers.
