Full disclosure, I came here because my card had a mileage deal specifically for this restaurant, but I'm sure glad I did. The layout of the place is rather unique, with a large outdoor area that seems to only be used at night. When I walked in it was lively but not packed, and we were sat quickly. I Put in our drink order and for whatever reason the cocktails took a bit longer than expected to come out, but that's where my criticisms end. The drinks were delicious and they didn't skimp on the alcohol. And our food came out quickly afterwards. The portions were very generous and the flavors were excellent. The sandwich was so good in fact that I housed half of it before I remembered to snap a picture. The El Rey appetizer was fantastic, but very heavy and oily, which may not be for everyone but was perfect for my tastes. My dining companion also loved his food. I left with not only extra skymilles, but a full belly and a great experience. Would recommend going out of your way for this place. read more

Outside looks nice as well as the indoors (great). They have outsoor seating but they didnt offer a choice. Took a little time to get seated (with a relatively empty restaurant). Server did not seem very friendly or happy to see us. Drinks seem very over-priceded ...as well as much of their menu. I ordered the Torta Ahogada, it was basically a meat sandwich drenched in spicy sauce. Not to bad (but (again) overpriced). The free chips were okay the salsa was very runny and we got a free yelp "check in" queso which was okay. Wife had Burrito and enchilada (I sampled), it tasted like a TV dinner meal. 2.5 stars rounding down. We won't be coming back. read more

The queso and chips were nice to start off. We met family here on Sunday afternoon. The place was nicely decorated inside. I had the Birria burrito and it was huge. The meat was flavorful. I wasn't fond of the sauce it was served in on the plate. We sat in a booth that is tucked inside the wall but it might have been the reason that service was slow. We seemed to be forgotten several times and then it took more than 20 minutes for them to process our card when paying. The staff were polite and the food was cooked right. read more

Went for dinner and worth the drive. Don't let the front parking lot fool you, the locals park out back in a large parking lot. The restaurant was busy without being crowded. The ambience is simple, but this isn't high dining, it is good Mexican food. I had the combo with a burrito that was well prepared with a lot of flavor and quite authentic. Flavor profile of the Birria Tacos is not what it used to be since they were bought. Before this was an amazing taco with highly seasoned beef and fried cheese to hold it together. Also the consomme has been toned down to a very bland taste. Now I have to search for good Birria Tacos somewhere else because this version sucks. read more

We felt like we were in the middle of nowhere and since we had gotten wrapped up in all we were doing, we forgot to eat. Luckily we found this place while driving around and it was open late and had good reviews. They sat us immediately and I was particular about where we sat and they were fine with that. We ordered the fogon tapatia to share. This dish is served in a fiery pot. Makes sense since fogon means stove and tapatia are the people from the Guadalajara area. This dish has everything including chicken, meat, shrimp, cactus, beef, chorizo and veggies. It comes with three tortillas, rice, guacamole, and the fixins that you would put on a typical fajita. It is a good size to share but u will definitely need some extra tortillas which is about $2 more for three. We were happy with our dinner here. There was a good flavor and or perhaps due to us being hangry since we ate only early morning and this was dinner Our server was nice but when we needed refills on drinks and napkins, it was hard to find her. Glad we found some good food in this not so familiar area Just an FYI, this is not far from Mt. Dora and Tavares, and this area has a few strawberry farms. It was the best bc it wasn't too loud, it wasn't too smoky from the kitchen(the middle area), also not so many kids screaming their heads off like the front area. I've been here a few times, all have been a little later in the evening (due to work schedule) but have been so impressed each time. Service has been wonderful and welcoming each time, food has been absolutely incredible and fresh even when closer to closing time. The ambiance seems great, of course it had been at the end of the day when I've gone so I'm sure it gets loud and lively during busier times but I love the decor and music! We came here after several recommendations on how authentic and fresh it was. We are very devoted to Eduardo's Locos Tacos but decided to give La Perla a try. It's a stand alone building that looks like a refurbished house. There is outdoor seating and the parking lot is dirt. The inside is very nicely decorated with booths, tables and a bar. We waited at the door about 5 minutes before being acknowledged or seated. They have Coke products but no Coke zero. Soda, Tea & lemonade are all $3.50. Beer are $4.99. Chips and salsa were below average. Salsa was as runny as ketchup with a little kick. ***We got free queso for checking in on Yelp (WOOT!) snd that was probably the best part of my meal. I had the pick two option with a ground beef burrito and a cheese enchilada. Their rice has peas in it (eeew) so I ordered double beans instead. They did not let me have any other options besides doing that for a rice substitute. The beans were good. The enchilada was average and the burrito was so bland. The server checked on a few times but when we were finished had to wait over 10 minutes for the bill. They do give you a discount for using cash so keep that in mind if you decide to come here. I don't recommend this however, except for it being cute inside and they have bendy straws, I don't have much else to say positive. read more

I had my reservations coming out here but this place didn't miss a beat. Everything was well done and just how I enjoy my Mexican restaurant experiences. This is casual, friendly dining. We were immediately greeted by staff on a Friday evening where most places would be swamped. The margarita menu is extensive with something for everyone. I had the La Guera margarita and it was so refreshing with the perfect amount of tequila with fresh pineapple and Tajin on the rim. My husband got the house margarita and despite what your expectations would be for a house drink, this margarita was presented in a huge oversized glass. It was pretty good but did not beat the La Guera. Some of the margaritas came with the option of small or large. Food met expectations. Chips arrived immediately, nice and warm with fresh salsa. We ordered a cheese dip as a table side. i appreciate that they were transparent that it was just a cheese dip and not a true queso, still it got the job done. I had the combo with a steak burrito, steak taco, and beef enchiladas. I appreciate the server informed me that the burrito and enchiladas would be covered with a red sauce. My burrito from the combo was OK but I wish I had opted for a regular burrito as those come stuffed with rice and veggies and my combo burrito was fairly basic but OK. My kid had a taco and wasn't crazy about it (I think the ground beef in the taco is cooked in pork fat and it always adds a strange taste to the ground beef. I won't charge this against them though as most Mexican a restaurants I've been to do this.) My hubby had a huge salad and it was a good portion with tons of veggies. The refried beans were pretty good and the rice was so so. The place started getting busy with large groups arriving just as we were leaving. This place will definitely be a crowd pleaser, causal enoug h to bring kids, and seems good for groups plus it's very reasonably priced. We left satisfied with leftovers. I could have went for another margarita but I'll wait until next time. Again, get that La Guera marg and thank me later. read more

Higher expectations for sure. It's just kind of OK and decent, but honestly not too great. Lacking in service and personality without the food making up for it. The kitchen has problems sending food out at the same time for a table. The bar is pretty slow and does not make a good margarita. All of the employees seem mostly unhappy to be there. Chips and salsa - just ok. Their elotes is super bizarre though - I honestly think they should be embarrassed of this rendition. A small boiled corn cob cut in half for $6 (come on, grill it at least) with minimal toppings and pretty much bland. I would urge everyone to never, ever order this. Their fajitas are good, but most, if not all, fajitas are good. The enchiladas are not my favorite, as the sauce tastes very sweet. Chile rellenos is just smothered in too much sauce - not battered and fried, but sorta broiled - and is just a mediocre version swimming in 2 full cups of enchilada sauce. Burritos and chimichangas are OK options because they are at the right price point, but even things like their pico de gallo is below average (last time ours was on its last leg, and mushy). With all this said, it's still one of the better Mexican restaurants in the area (there are several bad ones). But it started off with so much more promise and has declined since opening. We've had kitchen timing issues, we've had disappearing server issues, we've had mostly mediocre meals. I wish it was better and we'd eat here more often. read more

I am shocked by the type of service I just received here. I ordered veggie fajitas and half way through the meal i started to chew on what felt like meat. After spitting it into a napkin, i confirmed it was steak. My veggie fajitas had pieces of meat in it. After this happened, the owner offered to make it for me again. I declined because I was completely disgusted. I have not had meat in 6 years!!! So, I decided to leave because this was too upsetting. When I got in my car and I was pulling out of the parking spot, the owner and server chased me down and said they took the veggie fajitas off my tab but they still expect me to pay for my guacamole dip and drink (which i never finished). I cannot believe this!! They even gave me attitude. The only way they left me alone is when I started yelling at them. Like I just ate meat for the first time in 6 years because of your restaurant and you still expect me to pay for 1 drink and an appetizer i didn't finish??? Can you imagine if it were something I was allergic too and I had a reaction?? Like imagine if they had to call the ambulance. The owner would have probably shown up to the hospital still trying to make me pay. So if this is the type of service you would like to receive, then by all means go ahead. But for me this is a 0 out of 10 and I would not recommend. read more
