So my son and I came here for brunch on the way to pick up a car that I bought. I read the reviews and couldn't wait to get here. We got an Uber from the airport and walked in. We sat down and was greeted very shortly after. We were thinking breakfast. I ordered a coffee that came out fairly quickly. It was a coffee with milk that was pretty good. Then it was suggested we get either a breakfast bowl or a sandwich we went sandwich and all I can say is you better be hungry. This is one massive and tasty sandwich. The place is small but clean. Same with the bathroom. I highly recommend you stop here if you haven't. I would literally drive back from Ohio just to grab a meal. Stop in and grab an amazing meal.

Hubby & I came after visiting Blue Springs State Park. Had an amazing time with the friendly, welcoming owner. Read reviews from Yelp that were all 5 stars and were skeptical, but we loved it! The owner was the sweetest and made us feel like we were guests in her house. She is Dominican Republican and her husband who is the chef is Puerto Rican. She asked us how we found the place and she was so pleased to see they had 5 stars on Yelp. She told us about her daughter and asked about us, she was really like a beloved Aunt. We'd never had puerto rican food and with hubby's onion allergies, worried he wouldn't be able to eat here. But we told the owner and she assured us no onions in the sancocho (the soup). So far hubby's tummy is ok, so glad he got to try it! The fried chicken + rice reminded me of how my mom cooks the chk, Burmese style, but we add a tiny bit of oil, salt and lemon into the rice too. The fried plantains were not as sweet as I expected but hubby liked it. We also had flan, forgot to take photo, slice was small but yum. The texture is a bit more cake-like than pudding-like which is what I'm used to, perhaps that's puerto rican style? The beans were also delicious. Our Spanish wasn't great (but she was very pleased we tried) and her English wasn't the best, so we pretty much just told her to bring whatever she wanted as long as no onions lol. So I'm not sure about the price break down, but for 2 sancochos, 2 rice+ chk, fried plantains, beans, soda, flan, we were charged $28 total + tipped 30%. Huge portions, so we had enough for 1.5-2 meals. I was full after our late lunch and didn't feel hungry the rest of the day. So sad we're visiting Orlando and her shop is 1-1.5hr away. Definitely visit before/after you see the manatees at Blue Springs State Park! It's a hole in the wall but amazing food and amazing company that you'll love if you're a Go with the Flow kind of person who loves to try new foods and support local mom and pop shops. Stay away if you really can't handle that she can't speak fluent English or need a schmancy place.

Dominican breakfast, mashed onion plantains, eggs, fried cheese and salami!!! Loved it

So I been coming back to this location 1-2 times a week since my original review back 9 month ago. I get treated like a family member by the owner on the daily. Food is always delicious and the cofee is made like old school from the stove with milk like my gran mother used to make. Prices are the same food quantity is a lot and still taste great. Their sandwiches have been amazing and so ha been their fried ribs and sancocho. I strongly recommend this place

Nothing short of delicious! Dios mio! Honest Dominican/Puerto Rican comfort food in a humble setting you might otherwise miss or pass by without such glowing word of mouth. This is how I learned of them and so should you. Reasonable prices. Delicious. Very friendly. And could easily enough transport you back to the Islands. Those smells though. Just like abuela makes. Jajaja.

You have to come here! Best pancake I have ever eaten in my life! I ordered it for my kids and I took a bite and just wanted to eat all of them and I don't even eat pancakes! The owner and chef is so sweet and thankful to her customers. Basically you tell her what you want and she makes it. Mangu was amazing, pico de gallo, steak, pork, everything! Couldn't even take the time for a picture but my daughter snapped one.

I had two beef and two chicken and cheese

The people here are very friendly. But my food had hair in it. I ended up throwing all my food in the garbage after that.

The absolute best Cuban food anywhere. I have been to many…read moreCuban restaurants from Orlando to Miami and Chicas Cuban Cafe in Deland is the absolute best. This place is really classy and authentic and isn't your everyday ordinary Cuban restaurant. This place is great if you just want to grab a sandwich or you want to have a special date night and relax while enjoying a meal you won't forget. Tey have indoor and outdoor dining, and I noticed the tabletops are made from high end Quartz with gold metal flake and the decor and lighting sets the mood for an incredible dining experience. My first time here I ordered a Cuban sandwich meal, and it was absolutely the most incredibly delicious Cuban sandwich I have ever had anywhere and the service was top notch.

We had friends visiting and decided to come in on a Saturday evening without reservations. We were…read moretold there would be a short wait, which was completely fine, and we didn't mind spending about 20 minutes upstairs on the rooftop enjoying the DJ and atmosphere. Once seated, we were placed in the second dining room and ordered drinks, four appetizers, and our entrees. Unfortunately, from the start, the table was not properly set. We had no silverware, no napkins, no side plates for sharing appetizers, no coasters, and really no table settings at all. For a party ordering multiple appetizers and drinks, this immediately made service feel disorganized and inattentive. The issue became even worse when our entrees arrived and, almost immediately after, staff started stacking chairs around us at approximately 9:12 p.m. We had only been seated maybe 15-20 minutes earlier, so as a party of five on a Saturday night, we certainly did not expect the restaurant to begin visibly shutting down while we were just starting our meal. What made it even more frustrating was that these tables were already available when we first walked in, despite being told there would be a wait. Since we were entertaining guests, we thought this would be a great opportunity to show off the rooftop, which is such a great feature for a small town like DeLand and has so much potential. Instead, the experience became embarrassing and disappointing. Having staff stack chairs and place them on tabletops in the middle of our meal felt incredibly rude and unprofessional. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere and made us feel rushed out rather than welcomed. When we asked to speak with a manager, the response we received was that "the servers have to go home." That explanation was unacceptable. Paying customers should never be made to feel like an inconvenience, especially while actively dining. With my own background in restaurant service and management, I found both the handling of the situation and the manager's response to be extremely poor. As a DeLand local, this was especially disappointing because this restaurant has been making improvements and adding entertainment, which we were excited to support. Unfortunately, the poor service and lack of professionalism completely overshadowed what should have been an enjoyable night out.

The outside seats were full and the sidewalk packed with spectators. The dining was empty so we had our pick of seats. We were greeted promptly and our server gave us plenty of time to review the menu while catching up. Our drinks were served quickly-I got a glass of sangria which was crisp and light, not overly sweet. The food was freshly prepared and served hot. Everyone raved about their choices. I got the vegan enchiladas and my husband got the nachos. Both were delicious. The enchiladas were topped with fresh shredded cabbage and tomatoes which gave enchiladas a nice crunch in each bite. The nachos were light-not overly drenched in cheese or cheese sauce like you find in most pubs nowadays. You could taste the vegetables. The dining room is cozy with a good view of the street. Everyone we spoke with was friendly and welcoming. If our vacation plans bring us to Deland again, I know they will include a visit to De laVega.
