A bit of a drive, but worth it if you are looking for tried and true barbecue with a great view. Lots of free parking. No waiting at around 1pm on a Saturday. We were seated and got drinks quickly. I got a half rack of pork ribs with a side salad and coleslaw, and the person I was with got a full rack with coleslaw and mac and cheese. The side salad was good, and came before the meal. A variety of dressings were available and was served on the side. The coleslaw was the creamy kind (instead of vinegar) and was good as well. The ribs were tender and generously sized. Even with the half rack I ended up taking some home. I wasn't a huge fan of the bbq sauce served on the side but they had a great rub on them so they didn't really need sauce. I'm not sure what's happened to County Line but the quality of their food has gone down hill. Their brisket has very little flavor and the French fries taste rancid. While they used to serve warm, fresh country bread, they now put a tray of semi-stale sliced French bread on the table. Sad. The dining room is cold, dark and lifeless. The service was excellent--our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about gluten-free needs and explained the precautions the kitchen takes when preparing gluten free orders. For appetizers, we tried the sautéed mushrooms and sausage, and both were delicious! For my entrée, I had the grilled buffalo wings. Unfortunately, they were a letdown--just okay with an overly salty aftertaste. I also had a side of coleslaw. Coleslaw was great. My daughter, who is also gluten-free, had the bbq potato and said it was delicious. My son, also gluten-free, had the ribs, brisket, turkey and potato salad. He thought everything was just okay. This place has a crazy AMBIANCE, it is filled with memorabilia, old signs, photos the like. I love that in a restaurant- makes the eating experience more fun! They have famous bread on the menu- it's a white loaf bread made it house. It is excellent and worth a try- take some home to make sandwiches on because I guarantee you won't be able to have more than two pieces! They are huge, warm thick slices which are great to make a bbq sandwich with! First we got the chips, salsa and queso.. and let me say it was in the top of queso I have EVER had- so flavorful and rich and a HUGE portion! Do not, I repeat do not order the "all you can eat" family meals. They will bring you a tiny plate of meat. Then they will keep asking you if you want more. For $40 a person! Well, my recommendation is you order l continuously until they won't bring you food anymore then just ask them to pack it up to take it home. Otherwise you will eat what is in front of you and not be given portions that would justify $40 per plate charge. It's a great little scam they have going because if you're not an overeater, you will only eat What's in front of you until you are satiated. Out of the three items we picked for three of us. We basically paid $40 for six slices of brisket, $40 for two links, and $40 for three pieces of chicken. I hadn't been here for dinner in years and decided I needed to try it again. I am a very limited meat eater so it's the smoke turkey and chicken for me and I try to avoid bacon and lard hiding in things. I can deal with some cross-contamination but avoid as much as possible. All that to say that I came in with a pile of questions about the sides and what they contained and how they were prepared (I know, I know, bit of a handful but I try to be nice about it and tell my server why I'm asking!). Our server was amazing! She was great about double checking things for me and very nice about it all. She was also very very attentive coming back to check on us frequently and refilling beverages. The place is marketed as more of high end than your classic BBQ but definitely has all the decorations you would expect. It's a pretty large space though it can get busy at certain times of day. The smoked meat I had was quite good and the mashed potatoes were amazing! As I said about the service was phenomenal. I will have to add this to my list of places to go back to more often. read more

As a native Tejano, I'm a bit picky on my barbecue and wondered if this would match the County Line in Austin. I visited recently as it was a friends birthday dinner. The atmosphere is nice with the decorations and lighting. As well as the beautiful view across the city. The servers were very attentive and friendly as was the hostess staff at the front. In terms of food, I had a margarita which was really tasty and my partner ordered a bow and arrow beer. I ended up getting the green chili stew since I wasn't very hungry. My partner got a brisket sandwich. They got the the 2nd cut lean which in both of our opinions was too fatty and not much flavor. Even though the server did state that was the more flavorful of the two. I tried my friends ribs and that was honestly the best meat I tried while I was there. The salmon was also a lot smaller than what I expected that a friend ordered and seemed to enjoy. All in all, if you are coming for a good time and good company you'll enjoy it. I'd just say this isn't where I'd go to find barbecue even though I personally have yet to find the bbq spot here and that's okay. That's not what we come to NM for. read more

Going in was greeted and seated fine, getting someone to come to the table was timely, getting a drink order was fine and coming back after we order our food was fine as well. My sister who ordered the salmon and a side of beans and okra said the fish was over cooked. After we got our food our waitress never came back and checked in us. All the other wait staff were attentive to the other customers but not ours. Had to let someone else know that we haven't seen our waitress since we got our food and we were both about 3/4 of the way done. Finally she comes back and asks if there's a problem....my sister explains that it is generally a rule of waitressing to come back after about 3 min after the food is given to check in with your customers and a few times after. She says....ok, you're right. And no apology. Then smooths it over with a free desert. My sister got the peach cobbler but I didn't. Went to use the bathroom after and it was gross. Probably the worst looking bathroom I have seen for a restaurant, ever. Surprisingly this place is still open, probably because most of the business comes from the hockey/ice rink next door. The decor is interesting and was already decorated for Halloween. My dining companions got the chicken and turkey plates. I got the marbled 2nd cut brisket ($14.99 + 99 cent upcharge for the mac and cheese). The brisket was a good portion, but didn't have much flavor. And while the mac and cheese was cream enough, the flavor just wasn't there. Food came out quickly, but was just barely warm. I've lived in Albuquerque my whole life and remember when they built County Line and the Outpost Arena. County line used to have a more extensive menu and better food. This felt like a fine dining restaurant with a full bar, cloth napkins, the atmosphere- wooden walls, dim lighting decor, and scenic picture windows looking out over the city horizon. BUT the menu is as basic as chuck wagon bbq. We have so many beautiful views from the foothills but very little choices of venues that capitalize on it. Back in the day- High Finance and the many restaurants at the base of the tram were wonderful views and fairly affordable for most people. Now, our choices are extravagant Ten vs bbq. The west side restaurants and newer hotels are capitalizing on the popular mountain views, while we ignore the Albuquerque horizon. read more

The sides of red skin mashed and fried okra were very good. My 5 combo meat selection was the rip off of the table. The pork rib was the small round end of the rack dried out and way overcooked, the beef rib was all bone and maybe 2 oz of meat, the brisket was ok but only about 3oz, the sausage was the only satisfying thing in the plate. As this was a special occasion I kept my mouth shut and enjoyed the company. The cobblers were anything but cobblers, more like a piece of apple pie with ice cream covering the mess. When your Albuquerque nephew makes the best barbecue, it's difficult to find a barbecue place in town that comes close to his cooking. The County Line comes VERY close to his excellent barbecue. When we first walked in for lunch around noon, the place was empty. Then we walked to a back area, and it was bustling. We're sure that this entire, huge place must be packed for dinner. The food is that good! Garrett was a good server. He checked in regularly. When we asked about the free appetizer after checking in on Yelp, he said it was for any appetizer. After he brought the wings, he said that the appetizer had to be $10.19 or less. We didn't mind paying the extra as they were very good. Now we know. And so do you! On 3/31/23, Garrett took our order for the 1/2 pork rib platter, the 12 wing appetizer (less $10.19 - thanks to Yelp check in), and a stuffed baked potato with pork. The pork in the platter and potato was delicious. What we didn't eat, because the portions were generous, we brought home to enjoy later. As I said before, the wings were also good tasting. We ate every one of those! When we go out for barbecue in ABQ, we'll definitely come here. It was a great culinary experience. read more

We go to the Outpost 2-4 times a week for ice skating practice and games. I keep saying we need to go next door to the County Line. Well, we went tonight and it was a huge disappointment. It is cutesy in its country decor, but the food was meh! We had the complimentary Sausage appetizer with the Yelp website coupon. It was several thin slices of sausage on a plate with a side of BBQ sauce and a sprig of parsley. I know free is free, but it would have been nice if they were served warm and not all dried out. They were just above room temperature. The brisket sandwich on a fresh roll was good with a side of BBQ sauce. Never got the salt and pepper that I had asked our waitress, Ginger, for at the start of our meal. It is not automatically put in tables? The meat was lean and falling apart tasty. The side of potato salad, or should I say soupy celery salad, with bits of potato was inedible. Just disguised with a dusting of red paprika on top. The kids macaroni and cheese was good, as were the French Fries. The kids chicken tenders and French fries were mostly eaten as well. When I asked Ginger for a refill on my granddaughters lemonade, I said we would like a bread pudding for dessert. We were not even half way done with our entrees when it arrived. Should have let us finish our main portion of our meal first, so the ice cream on top melted while we ate our other food first. The bread pudding square was really big, but really ice cold and dried out, over baked, and stale. Shouldn't bread pudding be warmed up with that Jack Daniels sauce warmed too? Hmm? It had a big soup of ice cream in top, but that melted while we took 10 minutes to finish our entrees. Well, for almost $100 it was a major disappointment. A few problems here at this restaurant. They slammed almost all their patrons to the back of the restaurant. We had a wheelchair and they crowed us in their tables in the back. Red skin potato's FROM A BOX! Literally had powder in our mashed potato's. Totally disgusting. Mac and cheese might have been from Stouffers... it was that gross. French fries were cold, no warmth to them at all. We didn't get any of the icecream that came with our kids meals. We had two waitresses and neither gave them to us. Last problem, for a party of 6, they automatically added a gratuity... so enjoy your 18%. We always tip more but will never tip more if you automatically include your tip to the bill. read more
