My wife and i each got the bbq pork plate. The bbq and sweet sauce was good not great. Dont mistake this for Caolina or Texas Bbq or even Ohio bbq. Cole slaw was good. The ribs were fatty and not good. Other people liked them. We did not. We also the the chips appertizer w 3 sauces. Chips were heavy, cheese sauce was eh, chili was a letter better and green salsa nothing special. 15 minutes for meal. Had to wait in line behind orderers.

    Big Smoked Out Plate

S-A BBQ has four delicious sauces and does a great job with their smoked meats, but also is creative in how they sell them in a bowl, as nachos, on a spud, on a sandwich etc. Instead of just selling plain delicious meat, they sauce it up and pile on more flavors and textures to make it a full meal. I almost always get the Big Smoked Out Plate since it has a good variety of items on it to be able to enjoy all their goodness.

Our go to every time for BBQ brisket nachos! So darn delish! No fat! Spot on this time! The flavors were perfect! Sometime the service isn't the best but it's 1 employee. The others make up for this one guy. The nachos are outstanding! Definitely worth a try! The ambiance is really cool too! Lots to look at!

Flavor profile very good. I just expected a little more meat and a little less potatoes. The green chile mac and a fountain soda for just 3.99 to add to a meal is a pretty good deal. The staff was very nice. I'll come again I'll just order something else next time!

First off Tin Can Alley is such a fun spot! So much is offered in such a compact space. We checked out the offerings before coming and the menu at SA was calling us. Beckoning us to come in and fill our cravings of bbq and things spicy and cheesy. The Duke City Nachos offered Fresh Corn Tortilla Chips, Queso, Green Chile, House Crema, Chives, Fresh Jalapeño, Cilantro. We added chicken and the chips were fresh and perfectly crispy crunchy as tortilla chips should be. Just when I thought the green Chile had kicked my tastebuds into fire mode, I bit into one of the many raw jalapeños and hit a new sensation of inferno on my tongue. Don't get me wrong, they were very delicious and the crema was a nice cooling touch. I probably should have asked for more crema to cool the demons dancing in the back of my throat. The Pulled Pork Slider plate with coleslaw was just what I was hoping for. In the world of sliders nothing beats the pulled pork slider and the plate at SA BBQ was great. I love that they were served with Kings Hawaiian rolls. The sweetness from the rolls also killed some of the heat from the nachos. I HIGHLY recommend the Green Chile Mac and Queso! The punch of green chile and the cheesiness of the Mac was very satisfying.

Worth it! As we continue on our journey through ABQ and New Mexico, tonight's review is on S-A BBQ. First let's talk about the venue. It's called Tin Can Alley. A retro vibe food court and bar! Italian, BBQ, Vietnamese, Burger/Taco, and even a funky ice cream joint. On the backside is a bar area that has a wide variety of beers, ales, ciders, wine, coffee drinks and other non alcoholic beverages. Upstairs there is a lot of tables and chairs in every nook and cranny. Ok, let's get to it. We ordered: SMOKED OUT SPUD- - A big ol' papa smoked in our smoker till tender and soft, then covered in your choice of protein, with cheese, butter, chives, BBQ sauce, and red chile crema with brisket as the protein choice. BIG SMOKED OUT PLATE- - A selection of SA BBQ faves Chicken Fiesta Bowl, 1/2 Brisket Spud, Pulled Pork Slider, Sliced Hot Link, Slaw. MAC-N-CHEESE W/GREEN CHILI There was nothing about this meal we did not love. A huge potato smoked to perfection, opened and covered with delicious toppings as listed above and perfectly smoked brisket. To best sample their delicious offerings. The Big Smoked Out plate was ordered. The Chicken Fiesta bowl is nachos with smoked chicken, chips, smothered in cheddar, BBQ sauce, red chile crema, chives, and jalapeños. Very flavorful. A pulled pork slider on a soft roll. Just sauced meat and bread. Another hit! 1/2 Brisket spud with all the toppings was again perfect, like it's Papa. Sliced Hot link, nice, smoky flavor with just the right amount of heat. Wished there was more than 5 slices but yum. Then for "dessert," we shared a side of MAC-N-CHEESE W/green chilis. If you're in NM you know it's all about the chilis. Perfect cheesy and fantastic green chili flavor. I debated on deducting one star, 1/2 if that was an option, because on their website, the prices are off a bit. ($1) But, things like that happen. The food and experience was worth the 5 stars. Well done S-A. Let's see what food we get into tomorrow folks... keep an eye out!

I went to S-A BBQ at Tin Can Alley as part of True ABQ's promoting local businesses. They have a really interesting selection of sliders, tacos, bowls, and papas - smoked potatoes with your choice of pork, chicken, brisket, or hot link, butter, queso, green onions, red chile crema, jalapeños, and a variety of sauces. I ordered the brisket papa minus the jalapeños with two sauces - Burqueño BBQ and Zia Gold. Since the rooftop patio is open, I took my meal upstairs to enjoy the sunshine and the view of the Sandias. My papa was delicious! I drizzled Zia Gold, the mustard-based sauce, on one half and Burqueño BBQ, a lightly sweet tomato-based sauce with a bit of a chile kick, on the other half, then dug in. All of the flavors blended together really well, the potato was perfectly smoked, and all in all it was a lovely end to my day.

Best Nachos in Albuquerque for sure I love these nachos and have been eating at S-A BBQ for years!! I always get the brisket nachos and change up the sauce. Today I had the spicy Zia gold sauce I love this place and you should give it a try if you're debating. Awesome service and great food. These nachos are my favorite craving

Me and me boyfriend shared the first item on the menu: the SA BBQ plate with SA links. It wa SAMAZING! WOW. The sauce and cheesy goodness potatoes and Meats would make any Jew non-kosher. Paires with Guava Tree lemonaids. You've got a recipe for alley success. Hopefully they have another location. Yum. In the tum.

Our 1st foray to Tin Can Alley brings us here. I'm always up for good BBQ, often an elusive target. But this isn't your typical BBQ place. You can't get just a plate of say brisket, but you can get a fiesta bowl. Just what is that you ask? Well it seems nothing is usual fare in Tin Can Alley. Think of movie theater nachos with a much better twist. Chips that didn't get soggy, covered in cheddar cheese sauce with BBQ brisket, fresh jalapeños, chili crema. Then add a baked potatoes equally smothered, slider and hot link. The sausage is done right, home made, good smoked flavor and moist. Overall 2 great meals & worth a look if you are looking for novel & good food.

SA or Ese...I love love love love the name and the theme very Burque. I enjoyed the Smoked Out Spud with brisket and topped with Spicy Burqueno BBQ Sauce. It was straight fire. So many amazing flavors going with this baked potato. The potato itself was smoked to perfection, melted in your mouth. My son had the Triple Threat with the Zia Gold Sauce and really enjoyed it. The employees were patient and very helpful with us while making our dinner decisions. Loving the Tin Can Alley food court vibe.

Got two brisker sliders subbed saw for Mac n cheese and pork Fiesta bowl
    Tasha R.

A bit pricy for the food was almost $30 for this meal which was more of a snack for us. We were able to each sub our coleslaw for mac n cheese but they only gave us one serving and when asked they said that was for both sliders. I wish they separated our sliders and sides to separate plates will have to ask next time. Our food was also not very fresh tasting it seemed a bit cold and hard. My bf also did not enjoy the zia spicy sauce he said it tasted like mustard and was not spicy at all.

We went with the Korean Chicken bites, the Margarita Flatbread, & the green chilli cheeseburger. The Chicken bites were terrible. Taste wasn't great at all, they were very very fried, but not in a good way. I love some good crunchy fried chicken but these just were not it! The flavor, the texture, none of it was right. The Margarita Flatbread was med. Taste was pretty good, but it was soggy and didn't hold up well at all. That said it was the best of the 3 things we did get. Unfortunately, that's not saying much..... The burger was okay also. Not bad by any means, but nothing special at all either....considering there's a burger place next door I thought the burger would be able to compete with the neighbor, but trust me if you want a burger, go next door! They don't put sauce on it at all, no nothing. Just straight up patty, cheese and bun. Only my 6 year old cousin eats like that.....I did add some mayo and ketchup, which helped, but still not a great burger.... The bun didn't add much for us either, even though it was baked in house with green chilli....A simple brioche would be better imo... The fries with the burger were actually the best single item of the experience. Their fries are really good! So good that I was going to eat every single one of them but instead my waiter just came and took my plate before I had finished the last 10 or so. No are you finished yet, or anything, just grabbed it, turned and left. I was so shocked I didn't even have time to say I'm not done with that. He left the crummy chicken bites we weren't eating though..... LOL Seriously don't touch my plate unless it's empty, or you ask first! Since it was a small amount I let it slide and didn't reduce his tip because the rest of the service was actually pretty good overall..... I definitely 100% will not be back here though, there's much better food in the area.

Sadly, we found kind of a mixed bag. First, the standout items. The margaritas were fantastic; some of the best we've had in the USA and extremely generous. The pinto bean sides were some of the best we've had since returning to the States in 2013. Perhaps not quite as great as those of the shuttered El Cotorro but still stellar. Next, the tacos. We tried only two of the several tacos on offer - The El Pastor and the Pescado. Both were served in what was called "corn tortillas" but these differed from virtually any corn tortillas we've ever had in Mexico or elsewhere. They were at least twice as thick as your typical corn tortilla found in just about all Mexican taco places in Mexico and elsewhere. The consistency and taste were quite different from your normal corn tortilla also. In fact, they really didn't seem to have much taste at all, of corn or anything else. Now to the fillings. At the aforementioned El Cotorro, the meat for the Al Pastor tacos was cooked on a vertical rotating spit which was the only way we ever saw it cooked in Mexico. The meat La Reforma used in their al pastor tacos was more chunky and way drier than any we ever had in Mexico or at El Cotorro. It didn't taste similar to any al pastor tacos were ever had in Mexico. It also kind of seemed like it wasn't cooked recently whereas in Mexico you can watch the cook with a large knife carve off the meat from the vertical spit right in front of you. Usually the time between the carving and it sitting in front of you is under 10 seconds. The fish taco at La Reforma was disappointing. The fish resembled a fish stick but one without much flavor. We wouldn't order it again. We gave the mini-churros a try for dessert. Because they were so small, they were way crispier than your typical regular-sized churro. We might return but we'd skip the al pastor and the fish tacos and try some of the other tacos. But we strongly suggest that they dump their current "corn tortillas" because they're not that good. Way too thick and virtually tasteless. Lo siento. Kudos for the margaritas and the beans. The rest of what we tried didn't live up to the recent glowing review in the ABQ Journal.
