I really do like the atmosphere at the Corner - it has kind of a 20s vibe, and the glassware is cool looking. The cocktails are very good and creative, if a bit on the pricey side (like, I guess, regular city prices - $12ish dollars). The happy hour is good: cheap PBRs for the beer and 1/2 price well drinks, no plastic bottles. When I went the music was great -- a little Django Reinhardt here, a bit of Rapper's Delight there. They have little bar bite apps that are pretty cheap and sound super fun, but they are, um, kind of what you get for the price. Like, we ordered a thing of like cheesy dip with chips and it was literally with potato chips - I assumed it would be corn chips - and like not too many of them. The WORST offender was the "deviled" eggs. They were not deviled. They were just hard boiled eggs, cut in half with some sort of mayo on top. Like, if you've already gone to the trouble of hard boiling the eggs and involving mayo, just dig the damn yolk out, mix it with the mayo, and toss some paprika on that shit. God, who knew I cared this much about deviled eggs? But, seriously, that was kind of lame. I can't really speak to much else, because I was only there for happy hour & didn't get dinner, but I will warn you that if you go to that area later at night (I was over there for an art thing once) there's plenty of onstreet parking, but also plenty of people who, like, watch you park and want money to "watch" your car. Dark lounge environment inside. Loud party atmosphere outside. They're open super late . So this is typically a late night spot that gets busy around 1 but packed at 3-4am. All different kinds of people. The only problem is that there's a lot of homeless people in the area and I've seen some of them get violent with patrons. But they've stepped up on security thank god. read more

If I could give this place ZERO STARS, I absolutely would. I've NEVER been treated so badly before at any establishment IN MY LIFE. TRULY APPALLING. I was told to "Get the fuck out" and that my party was aware that last call had happened already. And no, we were actually not drunk or causing a disturbance, as most would assume to have someone treat you in that way. We were literally just sitting there and the bitter bartender just wanted us out so they could go home. I went there with my friend. We both work in the industry. We were overcharged and when we asked for the explanation the manager - Paula did not help us at all . She actually asked the security guy to kick us out. We were disrespected and I will never come back there. Paula was very disrecpectifull . When I asked for the phone number to her manager she just walked away saying that " this is how we do it '' It is ridiculous. I realize I'm in the minority not raving about this place and I guess if I hadn't read so much hype about it before going, it might be getting 3-4 stars but I can't help it. I was there on a Saturday night from about 9-12.. just for perspective. I've heard the food is pretty decent and didn't have any so I will likely go back and try something cheesy, eggy and gooey to see if we can up the stars. I also have to say that I was there with an ex-bartender self-proclaimed mixology snob so that may have tainted my opinion some. Sharing drinks with someone full of criticism may not be the best way to give an unbiased opinion! The place is what it sets out to be.. a non-pretentious, antique-looking hole in the wall. It lacks originality in general...although for Miami, it IS in the minority which is why some people might think it is so fantastic. Very Brooklyn. I scoured the walls for something uber interesting to look at but the only thing to interest me was the beer list.. which I did enjoy very much. The mixed drink prices, I think, are high in light of the fact that I had to keep an eye on my car the entire time I was there to make sure no one broke in. My drinks were "meh" (Elder Statesman and Death in the Afternoon). My friend complained to the bartender when she started mixing a Sazerac with the wrong rye and she looked like a deer caught in headlights. She had no idea what was wrong. The ingredients are written on the menu but she said the menu had been recently updated.. which isn't an excuse since the bartenders (of all people) should be well-aware what the drink menu says! Once it got late, service got a little slow for the non-regulars, as most of the attention was diverted by our (female) bartender to the Ladies at the outside window. All that being said, I think it deserves a return visit... with other people. If my experience changes, I will definitely change my rating. For now, too much freaking hype for nothing.... read more

Great beer and cocktail selection, but if you have an aversion to smoking indoors, this is probably not the place for you. We were having a great time until the bartender placed ashtrays at every table and people started lighting up inside. Who smokes indoors anymore?. Outside was also packed with cigarette smokers - many throwing their cigarette butts straight into the street instead of using ashtrays (tip for cig smokers - your cig butts are not biodegradable and go to the ocean through the storm drains). Stopped for lunch before Basel. Had a great croque monsieur - tasty, and perfectly sized. My wife had the corned beef and she liked it as well. Cool, unpretentious spot, with good sandwiches and coffee. We didn't try the beer but will next time. Very good service too from Lisanne. read more

This place is horrible. It is dirty, it is in a scary neighborhood, service is awful, the clientele is ratchet, and their liquor selection is pathetic. Adding insult to injury, drinks aren't even that cheap for how crappy the bar is. My date and I parked on the street and were accosted by a bum begging for $2 before we even got out of the car. This isn't is a hipster place, it's just dirty and ratchet trying to claim that is hipster. Half of the people looked like underage teenagers who were dressed like they were drinking in their garage, and the other half of the clientele were these balding overweight middle aged bikers. There is no flavored liquor of any kind, no fireball, no malibu, no midori, no jagermeister, so if you want to drink cocktails or shots that aren't just neat liquor, you are SOL. The bartender was unfriendly and didn't know what he was doing-- he poured my chilled shot into the smaller shot glass for a straight shot instead of a rocks glass so he ripped me off and didn't give me the full pour. He then added auto-gratuity on my drink order of 3 drinks. Oh, and they let people smoke inside, adding to the unpleasant vibe. I can't recommend this place for drinking with girls or for a date. read more

Nice cozy place to grab a drink after work. They offer happy hour on weekdays until 8pm. The specials are $3 can beers and $4 well drinks, with some offers on food like Chicago dogs and grilled cheese at $3. They also have board games to pass some time with friends. My only complaint was the bartender who sneezed on his hands and didn't wash them, went straight to making drinks and serving food. read more

We went there just before the last Heat finals game at 7pm and loved the place -- almost empty and a great, easy vibe. The cocktails, salad, charcuterie plate and sandwich we ordered were all excellent. The food prices were reasonable, the cocktail prices the usual high-ish Miami rate, only of much higher quality than you normally get. We came back after midnight and the place was mobbed, in no small part because the Heat had just won the 2012 trophy (I don't know how reflective it would be of a normal Thursday). We got our drinks okay but waited forever for the one sandwich we ordered, apparently because their small kitchen was overwhelmed. When I complained that it appeared that some of the waitstaff weren't being very attentive to cooking orders and began to ask for a refund, a guy I assume was the manager saw I was upset and came over, explained the problem, apologized, and refunded in cash what I had paid for the sandwich on my credit card. He also gave me the sandwich which happened to be finally coming out, saying "we're about customer service." Despite the sandwich drama, I was already predisposed to liking the place and his proactive handling of the situation just means that I'll now be a loyal regular An easy-going, well-crafted place like this in this area is a much-needed oasis (ESPECIALLY because of their late hours. In fact, my giving them 5 stars despite the fact that they allow indoor smoking shows you how impressed I was with the place. Now if they can just get rid of the indoor smoking, I'll be in heaven. read more

I have two pet peeves when it comes to where I drink, and the corner addresses them both: lighting and music. A good bar is a dimly lit bar as far as I'm concerned, and the corner may as well be named the cavern or the chamber. Why can't every bar simply just light some candles? It keeps the patrons happy and the power bills low. Then there's the volume of the music. These guys are actually playing music at a moderate to light volume? You mean to tell me I can actually carry on a conversation without screaming at the person next to me? Seriously, I can't believe there's a bar down here that actually gets that part right. And this is where most will point out that the corner just isn't a Miami bar, and while it may be New York at heart or whatever you want to call it, there are still some tasteful Miami idiosyncrasies at work here. For example, aside from the place peaking at 2am, they also stay open until 8am, which is sadistic to say the least. You're not going to find that kind of debauchery in Williamsburg, as those folks are usually tucked in by the time the corner starts popping. All in all it really is a breath of fresh air, and a great addition to the neighborhood. Drink prices are a little steep, but hey, that's not changing whether it be in Miami or New York. read more

So I know I've already written about The Corner before, but as someone who has felt notably cynical about Miami's nightlife/dining options for quite some time now; one cannot blame me for being anything less than entirely enthusiastic about this place. This sensational little treasure NEVER ceases to amaze me..... Upon reading the newly designed menu, (amazing job btw--stained wood tablets in a classic, easy to read typography) like any salacious patron, my eyes drew to the "Playboy Salad". With out a second thought I ordered it. Now I'm not one to typically use phrases such as this, but the plate awakened my goddam senses!!! It was so hearty, delicious and tasty, I barely came up for air. I just kept thinking to myself, how is this place not equally a food driven business!?? This is the kind of plate that can attract those far and wide. All the layered textures and flavors...the freshness, the presentation, the portions....my pallet has not been pampered this good in a long time. This is not the kind of food you expect from your favorite local dive. Its just unbelievable. So in love with this place. I love every last detail about it. I look forward to many delicious lunch to dinners here...I plan on covering the entire menu. read more

Grungy interior with an extensive selection of both beers and liquor. Skater scene with weird rock n roll on overhead. Velvet wallpaper and ugly chicks abound. Cool place. Alright food. But if all you want is a beer and a bite, this is not the place for you. The focus is on craft cocktails, which means the bartenders are slammed and it will take 20 minutes to get your beer order in, yes, even on a Tuesday night. And, if you have a problem with smoke, please, please, avoid this place because the patrons are under the impression--and they may just be right--that they have the bar staff's permission to smoke inside, even though food is served all night. Patrons mentioned Marissa, apparently, as the staff member who said it was ok to smoke and would even be willing to bring out ash trays onto a communal table where food was being served. Even the waitstaff smokes...and blows their cigarette smoke into the small kitchen area to, I assume, take advantage of the hood. Go here if you are okay with cigarette smoke, popped collars, and twenty-some-year-olds loudly and obnoxiously discussing their overhyped sexual escapades. read more
