I came in after the Corporate run in April, and it was packed. I was able to grab a seat at the bar with my friend. The bartenders were all great and honest. Right away they told us the kitchen was backed up and what to order if we wanted to eat quickly. They also told us once the kitchen freed up so that we could place our main order in. The frozen palomas are divine. Love the little plastic cups they're served in and the fat straws that change color make it that much more fun to drink it. The alcohol ratio to ingredients was also spot on, especially for a frozen drink which isn't always executed correctly. We ordered the fish dip as a starter and the roasted chicken I had as my entree was delicious. The chicken was flavorful and came on a red bell pepper sauce that was some how sweet with a little kick at the same time, it really complimented it well. It was served with broccolini and honestly I would order more of just the broccolini because it was that good. Despite the bar being packed that day, all the bartenders were quick and courteous. I finally had the chance to check out OverUnder Saturday night during the Downtown Miami art walk. I'd heard about them from that famous pizza blogger, and was expecting a slice but instead enjoyed their delicious & famous - titled as such on the menu - cheeseburger! Of course, I went picky and asked for no pickles and onions, but the beef patty & melted cheese were flavor perfection. The platter came with fries that had a little bit of a kick, proverbial music to my tastebuds. As they are a bar, I also enjoyed a cocktail (or two). Knowing my alcohol preferences, of course I went for something with rum specifically the "Couch Surfer". Served in a tall glass with a lot of ice meant for easy sipping, as well as garnished with mint & a burnt orange, this cocktail blends coffee cask infused Santa Teresa rum & amaro wine. Oh you know how I'm a dessert connoisseur? My friends went in last night after the Marlins game for food since we were so hungry and my friend is always raving about their burger. Well, I totally understand now. It was spectacular! There were 3 of us, so we went to the bar and got drinks while we waited for a table to open. I ordered a "Brass Monkey". It was SO GOOD! My friends got a martini and a frozen mango margarita. I tried both and they were pretty strong! The margarita had a little spice to it. For dinner we ordered the roasted carrots- FIRE! The buffalo chicken sandwich- FIRE! The chicken cutlet (so-so), the grilled shrimp with naan- FIRE! The Caesar salad (excellent!), And the smoked fish dip (ok). The smoked fish dip had some liquid smoke added to it and it was too "Smokey" tasting. The chicken sandwich came with fries that were really good! Over Under is always a good idea if you ask me. Happy hour? Absolutely, and I'll tell you why in a little bit. Getting together for a drink with friends? For sure, with any of their funky specialty cocktails or cheap beers. A late night spot where you can also get decent food until midnight? Right here. It gets very packed during the late night, which speaks to the fun vibe of the place. This place toes the line between straight up dive bar and stellar dining and I'm here for it. It's a pleasant surprise to find wonderful dishes on the menu. Dan C. and I are still talking about the carrot medallions they had once had on their menu. Is there any other place where you would be blown away by carrot medallions? That being said, their menu does change from time to time, so, if you don't come here for a while, expect something different or new to eat. Most recently, I was introduced to the blue crab hush puppies, and chicken liver mousse. Did I get your attention? Unexpected, right? The blue crab hush puppies had that great crab taste and were fluffy, not overly dry. The chicken liver mousse was an umami bomb that we kept eating and eating. It came out super cold and hard, but I loved how it softened and transformed into an unctuous taste as my friend super stirred it and it sat in room temperature. We got the smoked fish dip which was also fresh and densely flavored, with plenty of fried saltines, that we used to scoop up more chicken, liver mousse. I loved the pickled peppers to top on the fish dip, as they provided some tang, texture, and color. During happy hour from 4 to 7 PM, oysters are two dollars each, as opposed to three dollars on the regular menu. You can order a half dozen or a dozen, but of course, you should go with a dozen. The oysters are very briny, which I love, and when asked, you should go with their house made mignonette. It is pretty salty, so you should use it sparingly, but it adds a great vinegar dimension to each oyster. Happy hour also includes buy one get one cocktails, beers, house, wines. I shared my frozen cocktail BOGO, and we got the Muscle Relaxer, a slushy fruity delight, that packs a rum punch. It was surprisingly less sweet than your typical frozen drinks. I also ordered the Bill's Special, which is a mini shot of either house tequila or whiskey and a mini beer, for $4. The house tequila is what it is, and the mini beer was a Miller. Solid combo for $4! Is what I thought until our server asked if I wanted my other set and told me that it was part of the BOGO for happy hour. So I ended up with 2 mini shots and 2 mini beers. For $4. Our lesson learned at this time was that for $10, you can get hammered during happy hour here. I'll never stop suggesting Over Under as a spot to go to in Downtown. During our short trip in Miami, my husband wanted to have a burger somewhere so after a quick Yelp search, we found Over Under. It was perfect since it was close to our hotel. We got there around 730-8PM on a Friday night and was able to snag spots at the bar without an issue. My husband and I ordered: Smoked fish dip - this came with pickled peppers and saltine crackers. I really enjoyed this! The smokiness was so aromatic and flavorful. Add some of the dip to a cracker and top it off with a pepper -- wondrous! Cheeseburger - had cheese, lettuce, onions, pickles, thousand island dressing, and fries on the side. Their burger is nice -- well seasoned and had the right amount of the fixings where things don't over shadow each other. My only gripe with it is that the bottom bun did get a big soggy. Sour orange pie - sort of like key lime pie but with orange instead. I wasn't a huge fan of this because the saltine crust was incredibly salty. The salt overwhelmed me to the point where I didn't taste any sweetness or orange flavors. Maybe I'm just not used to these types of crust. I was thrilled to discover this small dark bar with great food right on Flagler Street downtown. I was at another bar nearby that didn't have food, so I asked for a recommendation for a place to get a light meal. The bartenders at that other bar fully recommended the burger at Over Under. Well, they were right. At $18.50, the burger was perfect. There were other food items that looked good, but I had to have the burger. The server was outstanding, and when I got the bill, she gave me a 10% discount for being a "really nice person." Wow! That has never happened (the discount, that is...I like to think I am usually a really nice person). I was so impressed with that gesture, I came back the following night. That night, we got a cocktail (2 for 1 during happy hour) and some appetizers including fish dip and gator bites. Everything was once again awesome. I didn't get the really nice person discount that night, but that's ok. I thought I was nice, but maybe not really nice. Or maybe I tried too hard to be really nice. I'm disappointed in myself that it took Barstool Sports to get me to try this place as it's right next to another bar I enjoy (although don't visit too often) We checked this place out yesterday at 5 when they open, before the SuperBowl with the hopes it wouldn't be too crowded. It was not yet, but it did look like they had one giant screen set up to view the game, which surprised me as Yelp says they don't have TVs. It's definitely not a sports bar but it does seem they are prepared to show important things when needed. The pizza was phenomenal. We got the vodka sauce pie. It had an extra creaminess but was not too different from a regular slice that I would be disappointed with it if I was craving a plain and simple tomato and cheese pie. The undercarriage was superb, very little flop as promised. There basically is no outer crust though and for that reason, I wished the cheese went to the edge. It did on some slices but not all over. I also tried a cocktail, the julep that had rum in it. It was good, not too sweet, and served in a traditional silver cup, but at 14 dollars I probably wouldn't order a cocktail again the next time I want Fratesi's pizza. Do you want a good bar that serves good food? Go here. Not enough bars serve food and that's enough for me to recommend Over Under. Why is it that walking around downtown Miami, too many places don't capitalize on the fact that to keep the night going, you gotta get some food in you? This place goes even further than that because the food is fantastic here and goes above bar-standard food and definitely helps get your fill in of fatty, fried foods that are the only thing to satisfy the drunchies--generous fries and some fried gator are all you need to calm the buzz you get after a few frozen drinks. The staff here is attentive, gives off cool vibes, and are funny and entertaining especially to the unruly folks who walk in and request a chair at the bar despite the extremely crowded atmosphere (which is a plus for entertainment as it gets too crowded and loud to hear what the hell's going on with the projector, but that's your own fault if you go to a bar that's as popular as this and expect to watch media and not interact with your crowd). All in all, if you're going bar-hopping and doing the usual rounds of downtown Miami alcohol watering well staples, it'd be a mistake to not include Over Under into the mix.
