We came here for a family dinner after my daughters bat mitzvah. The staff here did an incredible job with service especially with a large group. The only reason I cannot give them a five star rating is that our waiter did not properly have the kitchen accommodate my brother's pepper and capsaicin allergy. When questioned about two sauces that came on the crab cake appetizer my brother ordered, when specifically asked about the pepper content he said "that one is chipotle but that's not a pepper" and then when asked about the Sriracha based dressing on the side salad, he said that Sriracha is not a pepper. That lack of basic food knowledge was flabbergasting. This was after my brother said at least four times that he cannot have any capsaicin or black pepper. It's nearly an anaphylactic reaction for him. Fortunately the rest of the dish was edible for him And the kitchen remade his steak when it came out well done instead of rare. Overall, however, nine out of 10 people were happy the entire way through. The food was incredible. The service was as fast as could be expected with a 10 top. We will be back here again. Hopefully, since my brother will not be there, his dining curse will avoid us. The only thing I would suggest is to please take allergy issues seriously. Fair price for fair food. My wife and I went to The Corner Bistro on March 31, 2019. We had a reservation and were given our choice of a couple of tables and immediately seated. The restaurant was nearly filled and the customers seemed happy. Dress is casual and the restaurant is BYOB. We each ordered a salad, which was in the range of $8 and rather small. For our main courses, I chose a pork chop with sausage ($20) and my wife ordered a pasta dish ($17). The pork chop was also on the small side, but not terribly so, and the sausage was cold. The remaining contents on the plate were sufficiently hot, so it was odd to me but I ate it that way. My wife's pasta dish was served in one of these large plates with an indentation, so it's sort of like a bowl surrounded by plate. Again, the portion was small but, she said, spicy and tasty. We did not order desert. The service was excellent and the staff very nice. They never made us feel in any rush to leave. They have outdoor seating, which would be nice in the warmer season. We were in the area for an sport event and after reading few comments on Yelp we decided to give it a try. This was a Sunday late lunch. We sat outside b/c it was a beautiful day. You can hear the cars going back and forth but ok. My main complaint was the food. We ordered a tart with goat cheese and caramelized onions that was very mediocre ( tart was dry and tasteless and the onions were not properly caramelized not sweet or soft enough). My husband ordered a burger and he was happy with it. I ordered a salmon sandwich that wasn't too great. Salmon bad quality, very thin and dry. Sandwich was cut in triangles like a BLT and was impossible to eat. Bread was terrible , lots of lettuce and tomato and very tasteless. I really don't want to pay $18 for that. read more

We went there last night with the Cazes. The service was spectacular. Pete was a waiter and explained all of his favorite dishes in detail. We were all very impressed by Pete. The Decor of the restaurant is very nice. They told us several times that the owner is the chef that is from Guatemala. We were very impressed with the tuna steak. The tilapia was very good as well. The shrimp dinner was a bit small in size and that was probably the only concern. The cappuccino was delicious and although we did not get desserts they really looked fabulous read more

I went to the Corner Bistro today and ordered a Chicken Quesadilla! The Chicken was like rubber! I ate 1 of the 4 corners of it and realized then that I did not like it at all! I let the waiter know of which he said that if I did not like it they would take it off the bill! I told him to make sure the kitchen knew so that it would not happen again to someone else....and that they should check into the chicken itself! Upon receiving my bill, I saw that it had not been taken off the bill. The waiter said the cook said no and I had eaten 1 of the 4 pieces!! Seriously!?!! read more

Food has always been delicious and service superb. They have a beautiful outside dinning area and you can byob!! Their dishes are always presented beautifully and are also delicious like I've said. What a disappointment after seeing all the good reviews. My wife and I had dinner this evening. I had the Pan Seared Duck special. It was soggy, and flavorless. If it was pan seared, it must have sat in a refrigerator and was microwaved to reheat. It was a nice size duck breast but so poorly cooked that I cannot imagine a real chef prepared it. The scalloped potatoes were good and the sautéed fresh spinach flavorful and nicely done, but the duck was simply awful. My wife had the stuffed shrimp and said they were OK. There was very little flavor apart from the sauce which she said was good. Anyway, maybe I hit them on a bad day. I had booked a Mother's Day reservation based on the favorable reviews, which I cancelled immediately after the very mediocre dinner this evening. I will say the Wait staff was nice. read more

Can't say enough about our meal last night. We've passed this place a million times and it truly is a hidden gem because of how it's tucked away in a small plaza. Hands down, the best meal we've had since moving to Denville over a year ago (It's in Randolph but very close). The steamed clams and fried calamari appetizers were some of the best we've had, and the coconut crusted salmon and rigatoni vodka we each had for our entrees were amazing. I normally am not a fan of a shopping center restaurant - for some reason, I prefer a stand alone restaurant or feel like the shopping center restaurants just can't be that great. In this case, I would have been way wrong. Food was outstanding. Went alone for lunch after a meeting, and had one of the best french onion soups I've ever had... and that's saying a lot. I have french onion soup almost everywhere I dine if it's offered. I also had the avocado turkey burger. Excellent. So fresh. The presentation on the plate was even beautiful. The amazing music in the background didn't hurt either! Whitney Houston was on when I walked in. What?! Whatever playlist or pandora station that was on was a fantastic choice. A nice little hidden gem! My review is based solely off of their dinner service although I heard they serve breakfast and lunch. Just as an FYI, this place is BYOB and the location was previously Le Peep, which closed. The restaurant sits at the end of a strip mall but it's been revamped - nice decor with a casual ambiance. We ordered the calamari, which was delicious! Calamari was fresh, flavorful, and plentiful. For my entree, I ordered the chicken scarpariello, which was delicious.... i subbed the mashed potatoes for the scalloped potatoes and OMG, absolute buttery perfection. I highly recommend their scalloped potatoes... they're to die for! Overall my dish was delicious - it was cooked perfectly and the portions were plentiful. My boyfriend ordered one of their specials for the night - Chicken Murphy, which was a chicken dish (very similar to the scarpariello on the menu but with brown sauce) topped with sausage and peppers, served with a side of mixed veggies (turned out to be a blend of squash and zucchini), and he also subbed the mashed potatoes for the scalloped potatoes. Although his dish was also quite delicious, I found that the portion to be much larger than mine and the plate was very busy and looked a bit cluttered with too many components. I preferred my dish over his, but both were still excellent. My only complaint is that the server serving our dinners got our dishes mixed up and didn't know which was which. Most entrees seem to range from $15-18 with burgers being about $10-12. I was not disappointed with our first experience here and would definitely return for another dinner date. The Corner Bistro is a little spot tucked away in a strip mall just off of rt10 in Randolph. I've had both breakfast and lunch here and both meals were very good. You're not going to get culinary excellence at The Corner Bistro but the food has always been fresh and tasty. If you are looking for a quick but tasty meal but want a better dinning experience than that of a NJ diner, The Corner Bistro is a great choice. The restaurant provides plenty of parking and offers both indoor and outdoor dinning. Outdoor dinning is is nice in the warmer months but is limited and close to rt10 which could make it less desirable than indoor. Bring your own if you want alcohol with your meal. read more

Hmmm... considering the more than decent reviews, I was expecting something different. I joined two friends for dinner on a Tuesday evening. Two other tables were occupied. There were a few things about this place that didn't sit right with my party. 1. Food was really subpar. While my filet mignon was okay (but pretty chewy), my other friends didn't even touch theirs. Bad cuts or cooked incorrectly. One asked for medium and had send her rare-ish steak back. Our appetizer - the spinach and artichoke dip - was too soupy to stay on the pita. They provided very few pieces of pita - so, we ended up using the last of our bread. 2. Our waitress was very sweet and seemed genuinely concerned that we enjoyed our food, but she was not really as attentive as required and we often gave up trying to get her attention (when we needed a refill, needed more pita for our spinach dip, needed sugar for our iced tea, needed to pay the check). 3. While I am a huge Broadway fan and frequently listen to soundtracks, the sleepy ballad-only Broadway station they had on was awkward. 4. Ever so nit-picky, but still bizarre, our butter knives were stamped with "China Airlines". I assume they got them at some sort of restaurant auction -- but, I would probably not recommend putting them out. Just made it feel cheap. I have frequented this restaurant since its opening. Early on there were issues with service but the food was always good. Since Harold has assumed the management and kitchen it has become an outstanding dining experience. Of course, with that comes (thankfully) an increase in clientele and hence the necessity for a reservation, especially on the weekends. Recently, I came with a party of 10 (retired teachers and lucky me I was the only male). The service was terrific, food outstanding,and the value exceptional. Easy to find right on RT 10 at center grove rd--ample parking lot They have specials written on a blackboard outside which for me is nearly impossible to remember so I took a picture(see below). I'd suggest you do the same thing because even though the server announces them unless you have a photographic memory there will be something you will forget. Why any restaurant doesn't spend a few cents to print out their specials is beyond me. The place has tables & booths which is ok but not what I'd expect at a "bistro". It didn't help that the party next to us had an adult who kept banging the back of the seat which I felt--was tempted to bank back but thought better of it. Booth was otherwise comfortable. They will ask if you want wheat bread--I'd advise to say "yes"--it was hot, dense but very soft & tasty. This is a BYOB so we brought our own. Appetizers were calamari(coating light but tasty; however, calamari a bit chewy & marinara weak & eggplant parm/rollatini --was ok needed more sauce. I got the shrimp bisque soup--it was milky white, watery & had about a dozen small shrimp. Taste was ehh but this was NOT bisque. Entrees were almond encrusted sole(ok but had more breading than fish), veggies standard & 1 of the specials Bistro Rigatoni short ribs ragu w/mascarpone & tomato madeira sauce--very tasty. Also, based on this I ordered a togo special braised beef short ribs with mashed pot & grn beans also good. Desserts were NY cheesecake(they were out of choc mousse) which was blah--def not NY or a very low grade version & brownie ice cream in a long glass standard. We both finished with very weak cappuccinos which @ $2.49/ea got what we paid for. Service was ok though there was a lapse between appetizers & entrees & leftover appetizer dishes were not addressed until we were almost done with out entrees, my friend's water glass took 20 mins to be refilled after requesting(even though there was a busboy walking around with a container of it guess he didnt notice ours) There was an accordion player which was more annoying than pleasing especially at a place that was more diner-like than restaurant. We were seated near the entrance & there was a ringing noise that went off randomly(I'm assuming it meant an item was ready to be served) which at times was annoyingly loud. Also, if you're facing the store front at sundown you will be blinded--it was brought to the attention by another party but rather than turning the blinds closed the employee was taping several sheets of paper???? So for 1 soup, 2 appys, 3 entrees, 2 desserts & 2 caps with tax/tip came to $125 which is ok BOTTOM LINE: highly doubtful I'll be returning I prefer to give a detailed rating as opposed to just saying I liked it or I didn't. For me I rate a restaurant in 4 categories in order of importance: Food Service Value Décor/ambience/misc If you're wondering why this is the order for me I rather have great food & so-so service than the other way around. You can always plan around a slower evening to make it just as enjoyable but not around mediocre food whether it's fast or slow paced. My 3rd item I call value instead of price because based on the taste & serving portion of the item compared to similar items at other restaurants tells me if it's a good value. For instance the best steak I've ever had to date runs about $44 but besides being delicious(a way to tell is it stands on its own w/o adding any sauces) it is boneless & about 24oz so you get two good meals. Food(2.0), service(1.5), value(1.0) & décor/ambience/misc(0.5) I then take the # stars for each category & multiply by the # in parentheses then divide by 5 to get my final rating. If the final average is exactly 1/2 I'll round up or down depending on other reviews. So my calculations are as follows: FOOD 2.0 x 2 = 4.0 SERVICE 2.5 x 1.5 = 3.75 VALUE 3.0 x 1 = 3.0 AMBIENCE/OTHER 1.0 x .5 = 0.5 Total pts 11.25 divided by 5 = 2.25 which rounds to 2 read more

We had purchased a groupon for this restaurant and realized it was going to expire so we decided to go for dinner last night. I followed the instructions and called for a reservation and let them know we were using the Groupon. No problem. We arrived and were the only customers in the restaurant. Since it's a byob, we brought our own wine. Our waitress came over with glasses and a corkscrew and opened the wine for us, then told us the specials of the day. We ordered the fried ravioli, which were really good. I ordered a turkey burger, which was fine but nothing special, and my husband ordered the San Marzano tomatoes with shrimp and linguini, six shrimp and an adequate amount of linguini. Again, he thought it was fine, but nothing special. The food was delivered and we didn't see the waitress again until we were almost done. I mean we didn't even see her, not that she didn't come over or was busy. There was no one else in the restaurant and she disappeared. We were pretty much finished by the time she came over to see if it was alright. I could have used some ketchup for the fries a bit earlier than I got it. She asked us if we wanted coffee or dessert and shared the dessert items with us. They are not written down anywhere, nor do you know their costs. We opted for nothing and asked for the check. And that's when the real issue occurred. I told her we'd be using a Groupon and that I'd called ahead, and her response was: "We're having trouble with the Groupon. We'll take $18 off your check and you can get the rest back from Groupon." OK.... We did that, and I am now trying to get my money back from Groupon. But really? Why don't they honor the Groupon? Based on the food quality, which was just ok, and the service, which was also just ok, and with this experience, we will not be back. read more

I was a guest at a party there yesterday. Total people about 52. While the food was delicious, the service left a lot to be desired. Most of the day there were no waiters in the room. I was walking around looking for water. Others were pouring their own drinks. (It's BYOB but they like to serve so they weren't happy when they saw people pouring their own.) but really what were we supposed to do? Wait til they decided to come back 20 minutes later? And although the food was good, they really skimped on the appetizers. One plate per table of 8-10 people Definitely not a place to have a party. My husband and I went for dinner a couple Fridays ago. Went there around 5:45 place was empty. By 6:30 the place was packed. The atmosphere is very nice. My husband had the sliced steak which was delicious, I had the seared tuna. I have not been able to stop talking about how delicious it was. I have to say it was one of the best meals I have had. Second time back today, this time I took advantage of the BYOB and brought my own wine. I had the fried calamari for an appetizer (definitely recommend it with a little Ranch sauce) and a butternut squash and corn soup. The soup was definitely a first time for me, but I enjoyed it very much. For dinner I had the delicious tuna over asparagus and some rice on the side. I requested the tuna be cooked medium rare, I know usually its prepared raw and just seared. To my surprise (as most places usually over cook it when I ask for it like this) it came out perfect! I would definitely recommend this if you're a tuna lover, especially with the sauces that it comes with. The other person in my party had the salmon with grilled vegetable and seemed to be very pleased with it For dessert we ordered the creme brulee. It was a nice treat at the end. The staff was attentive, even offering and opening my wine bottle for my table. The waiter came by several times to check on us and was very friendly. Are you kidding me? - Despite having a reservation, we waited 20+ minutes to be seated and then waited another 15 minutes to have our wine opened and our orders taken - The bread was microwaved to warm it up (real authentic huh?) - Your lobster bisque tasted more like a can of Campbell's soup that accidentally had some shrimp juice and butter leaked into it - I couldn't stab your [tasteless] fried calamari with my fork because it was so rubbery and the accompanying marinara was watery?!? - The Pork Osso Bucco may have been passible if it wasn't utterly decimated by salt (same with the sautéed spinach) - Finally, your wait staff is SUPER inattentive. They never refilled our water, they took 10-20 minutes to clear the tables after we had finished any of our dishes, and in general it took us OVER ONE HOUR to have our entrees cleared, a desert menu provided, our dessert served, and the bill paid. (So not only did we endure your restaurant's struggles with food preparation throughout the night, but then your wait staff proceeded to subject us to the additional punishment of having to endure over 2 hours of just WAITING in that excuse of a restaurant you call "The Corner Bistro".) ... but y'know what? That's ok! The extra time we spent there provided a fantastic opportunity to "dig deep" and really consider why I loathed your restaurant so much and ultimately gave me the inspiration to write this review. Pro: pleasant service, pancakes were good Con: hair on my plate, vegetable omelet was folded incorrectly so it was more half peppers half onions, onions tasted like they were cooked in beef broth, hash browns were of the frozen-square kind. I ordered take out from here tonight and the entire experience was great! I ordered the filet mignon and a wedge salad. The filet was cooked perfectly, and the perfect temperature when I got home. (Very hard to do with filet) The salad was great and a perfect portion. The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. I felt safe during the entire experience as well. Today was our 3rd time dining here and with each visit we find that they strive to continuously improve their food and services. Today was no different. For appetizers we had their coconut shrimp and octopus special. Both were very tasty with nice size portions. Our dinner entrees were the rack of lamb and crusted red snapper. To be honest both were cooked perfectly but they needed a tad bit more seasoning. We enjoy dining here on Thursdays because they have a live smooth jazz band performing. The band, and female lead singer, are very good and add to the ambience of a very nice dinner. Service today was very good with 3 different waiters checking in on us periodically (note this is an example of how they've improved since prior dining experiences mediocre service was one of our complaints).
