This business has rebranded, or been bought out since the last time we visited. They still offer the pizzas and cider. My wife ordered a cider flight which I tasted also as I'm more of a beer guy. Most of the ciders were nice and light. I wasn't a fan of their fireside cider. I tried to order a Troegs Perpetual but was told they didn't have it. I asked what IPA did they have and the server said "Stacy I think...I don't know beer". It's a cider house and I'd never expect the staff to be versed on the beers on tap. I ordered the Stacy's mom IPA. We ordered a chicken quesadilla for an appetizer and it was what you'd expect. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which was good and my wife ordered the fried chicken sandwich and she loved the breading. Just be aware when you enter there is a very strong alcohol cider smell. Most breweries and distilleries know how to keep that smell away if they serve food. The menu is small, but quick and done well. The ciders are good. read more

We were so happy to find this ciders and restaurant when outlet shopping in Gettysburg. I'm looking forward to coming back for a Happy Hour! We really enjoyed our food--wood-fired pizza, a summer salad of heirloom tomatoes, watermelon and feta. And to top it off--we had great cinnamon sugar donuts! Gettysburg gem! Every time I'm in Gettysburg I find myself wanting to stop at Mela Kitchen. From the food to the atmosphere, this place is worth the time. I've had a decent amount of food from their menu, and they do make some great seasonal changes. But there are a few consistent options that I really enjoy: the Wagyu sliders are great, their wings have a great savory sauce, and they have a really tasty beet salad. The ordering system is a little unique, instead of a server coming to you, you go up to the counter to order but they will deliver the food to your table. One of my favorite little features at Mela is the self water station where you can choose sparkling, flat or still. There is a wide range of food choices from burgers to flatbreads and I honestly haven't had a bad meal there yet. They have a solid happy hour menu and enough beverages on tap to quench even the deepest thirst! Don't just take it from me, stop by Mela Kitchen and try it out for yourself! Cheers! read more

Hidden behind the main shopping center, this place serves up some delicious eats! We arrived on a late Thursday afternoon just in time for happy hour. Their outdoor patio was dog friendly, making it convenient for us as we were traveling with our pups. We inquired about how to order- inside there was a walk up counter where you place all orders for drinks and foods. Once ready, an employee brings it out to you. Water (seltzer) was self serve and they also provided crafts to fill so you could keep a supply at your table. Ciders were $3 drafts and $5 sampler which was what we decided on. We tried rose, original, sweet helens, pear, peach, and hops. We both really enjoyed the pear and I surprisingly really liked the hopped cider. We also ordered the $8 pizza special which was a sausage and roasted red pepper pizza drizzled with hot honey - phenomenal. Overall, a really cheap, delicious meal. Pizza and cider! Yes! There's a brewery in the back and pizza oven up front. It's the usual brewpub concrete floors and warehouse ceiling, concise yet tasty menu, and offbeat staff. I loved that the front of the house brought their personalities to work. It makes me feel welcome in casual places like this. I got a cider flight and a mushroom pizza. The white sauce was nice even for a traditional red sauce eater like myself. All four ciders were killer! The flight portions were large enough for a good sample, not little shot to give an impression of a flavor, if you know what I mean. They have package cider sales as well as dine in. The bar has service however the dining room is not. Each table has to order at a tablet and the staff deliver the food when it's ready. A great place for a delicious brunch! We live in Gettysburg and have been wanting to stop in at Mela Kitchen for awhile. We decided to give it a try and we really enjoyed it. The brunch menu has a great variety and the portions are good size. My husband got the Eggs Benedict and he really enjoyed it. I got the breakfast bowl with creamy polenta and the short rib. It was so flavorful and perfect for a fall day. It has a rustic and refined quality to the food. It makes you just want to sit around with family and friends and enjoy a meal together. Mela offers a fantastic happy hour! Family came here to try it out and sat on the patio with our dogs. Cider wise I am not a huge fan of Jacks but I tried a flight anyway. I think it might be the sugar that gets me. However I know plenty others love their stuff. Food wise this place was great. We had the pepper and sausage pizza which was fantastic. Located in a former multiplex cinema, this somewhat pretentious eatery is nowhere near the hype we've heard from our friends. Perhaps it was a one-off experience on a quiet Sunday afternoon, but Mela Kitchen came up way short on both food and ambiance. First off, their sound system for the folk-rock group that was entertaining the sparse crowd was cranked-up way too many decibels for both the venue and the number of patrons. We could hear the band blasting as soon as we got out of our car to enter. We had to shout to the greeters and staff just to get them to understand us -- much less to each other in our group of five. Taking our daughter and her family out to a nice dinner for her birthday was the occasion, Mela Kitchen being a requested favorite. For my wife and me, it was our first visit. We were excited because of the edgy summer menu which contained a number of fairly exotic dishes we had never heard of, with a few fairly unknown ingredients. Nevertheless, we're highly experienced diners and travelers not having much fear of anything on a menu. Cocktails for my wife and me were the "Summer Fling" (rum + pineapple) for her, and "Resurrection" (rum + lime) for me. Delightful and an excellent start for the evening. Prior to ordering, I had checked with a manager about possibly getting a dessert -- something along the lines of a cake with a candle for a post-prandial celebration. He assured me that it was not a problem, just to let him know when we were ready. Great! First our orders: their full charcuterie, bread, and cheese boards -- our starters for the meal. I also ordered a couple of pickled eggs, not having had these in decades. The boards were just okay for the amount and quality of the offerings. The eggs, however, were cracked-pepper-covered (not in the description) and served at an acidity just short of pure white vinegar! I struggled through these, assuming that my memories or past eggs were a little off. Our birthday-girl was just fine with the boards and sampling our other dishes. We enjoyed their fresh oysters -- sweet and delightful -- fully separated from their shells. My wife's spinach salad -- a half order that was shared with her daughter -- was very good. My son-in-law ordered the Smash Burger that was fully topped with an onion, sauce, pickles on a multi-seeded brioche bun. He enjoyed. My granddaughter enjoyed a creative apple + bacon pizza, which she shared with her Mom. They enjoyed. My wife ordered their Margherita pizza that was created with a bare minimum of sauce and mozzarella, but a lot of tasty basil leaves. Unfortunately, someone in the kitchen went a little crazy with the sea salt, coating the entire pie with a generous helping of the crystals. That was not mentioned in the description. I ordered their Three Cheese pizza which had mozzarella, Provolone, and parmesan, with garlic confit and garlic toum (sauce). Mis-named! Should have been called "Garlic Delight"! Very, very little cheese on this pie. However, I could have ¾ of the garlic on this dish to use on my next tomato-garlic pasta sauce. Overload! In addition, there was some extremely spicy (hot) coating (toum???) that seemed to be made with Scotch Bonnet peppers. I struggled through this for half the pie. Couldn't finish it for the safety of my pallet. The cake, or dessert to celebrate the birthday never happened. It seems the manager who promised delivery had left a half-hour before we were finished and never passed on our request to anyone else on the staff. No one I spoke with knew what to do or how to rescue this situation. I just said forget about it. Sad, but not tragic. This will not be a do-over for us. I can think of at least a dozen placed in the Gettysburg area that we could go to have a far superior experience. Whether this was simply the "Sunday Doldrums" or a standard presentation, I'll never find out. I like to enjoy my food! read more

My husband and I stopped in here because it was nearby our hotel. I really didn't know what to expect. The ordering is a process. You are handed a menu, you stand in line and order what you want. They give you a number and you find a table and they bring what you ordered to you. This was a bit frustrating because you have to order everything you think you will want right there because if not and you decide you want another cocktail or dessert you have to get back in line and give them your number. This is why you open a tab when you first order. It was so busy and the line was long. I don't know if ordering this way is sustainable. We had the pizza , it was just ok. We also had the bread board which I had high hopes for but it was lacking . Basically, 3 types of toasted bread heavily buttered or oiled, I couldn't tell. I felt like they should add different types of butters or a cheese for the price. We had jacks hard cider as our drinks. The peach is delicious. We also so had the apple cider donut dessert. That was delicious. I would like to give them more stars but I can't. I can only recommend this place if you are going for drinks and maybe dessert. read more

The main issue I had was the place is either under staffed or under trained. I told the host that the seltzer water was out at the serve yourself water station and he just looked confused like he didn't know what to do or who to tell. Then when our food was served the runner asked if we needed anything else and I said I'd like to order a cocktail, he said no problem and took my order, walked away then came back 3 minutes later and said "sorry my brain is toast man what cocktail did you want and also I need to card you now", as I am holding a hot wing I just bit into, fingers covered in sauce. Would not have minded to be carded before I started digging into the food he served me. After all that, come to find out he never put in the cocktail order and I never got it, I knew this cause it was not even on the bill when I paid. His brain really is toast! The next issue is this is a fast causal style set up, where you order at the counter and then they bring your food to you, but the menu is trying to be more upscale with variety and it just does not flow well. The prices are somewhat high for what it is. Also, I had no idea how to pay my bill when I was done other than wait in the long line again, then they expect a 18-22% tip based on the screen recommendations, Im thinking for what? I basically served myself lol. The food was good, but not great. Wings were good, but honestly, not worth the $14 for HALF a dozen! I have had just as good at a pizza shop. The margarita pizza was good, but was cold. Would have been better if it was served right out of the oven. We were so excited to try this place and support local business. Keeping Covid in mind, we're used to places being short-staffed and were glad to see there was plenty of staff. Standing around talking. It would have been nice if any one welcomed us or pointed us to the stand to get the menus, but we figured it out. I wanted to get the beet salad, but I'm not a fan of arugula since it can be bitter. I asked if I could get the spinach and candied pecans (from the spinach salad) on the beet salad instead and that "I would pay an upcharge for adding the pecans if necessary". The guy at the register looked confused and had to call over another worker (manager?) because he couldn't figure it out. Her solution, to him, as I'm standing right next to her, "She can buy BOTH salads and switch it out." Huh?? I should buy both salads so I can take the spinach off one and throw the other one away?? I tell him if it's that complicated to switch arugula with spinach on a salad, I don't need either. He tells me it's too much for the chefs to deal with. Um, it's an open kitchen, the cooks are literally less than 5 ft away. I could have said " Hey can you swap my arugula for spinach?" and I'm pretty sure they could have figured it out. At that point, I settle on a margarita pizza, cuz how hard can that be? As you can see from the photo it was burnt. Not just a few of the dough bubbles, that happens in brick oven pizzas. The entire bottom too. I had to rip it apart and try to eat the less burnt parts. The difference between browned and burned is that you can only taste the black carbon, not the pizza when it's burnt - for the rest.of.the.day. They also have you pay upfront, including the gratuity if you're using a card. Okay, you got me, because it certainly wasn't worth the stress of explaining burnt pizza, or asking for another one if they couldn't figure out how to get spinach in a salad. This used to be on my short list for go-to's in Gettysburg. Something changed. I hesitated posting this, as I don't work there, so don't have firsthand knowledge regarding what has been and continues to be posted on Gettysburg's Facebook page. However, when I searched online, found that local newspapers had reported the same. The owner of Mela's - now rebranded Core - apparently has treated female staff like dirt. Misogynistic and demeaning. Additionally, he personally wanted to give new cocktails racist names. When staff protested, apparently he not only refused to back down, but also told them they could quit if they didn't like it. So they did. Mass walkout. Owner apparently never made things right all new staff, including new chef. Apparently still the same miserable boss. Many of us in Gettysburg refuse to patronize new Mela's - Core - in solidarity with former staff and because of the owner's unapologetic racism. I've heard the food isn't as good, but won't go there to find out for myself. Just be aware that there is a lot more to this place than merely its food. A pity. What it ***used to be*** is different from what it now is. read more

I visit the Gettysburg area fairly often and have wanted to check this place out for the last few trips. This was a last minute decision to meet up with a friend and weren't terribly hungry so we stuck to snacks and drinks. The boyfriend and I split a 3-cheese plate and our friend got a mushroom pizza. There was an option for 5-cheeses or select 3 from the 5. The options were varied enough to be interesting. The cheese portions were moderate to small but came with good accouterments and a lavash bread that was delicious. I also really enjoyed my pear cider. It was a very refreshing end to the summer. I didn't taste the pizza but it looked really good and got positive reviews from our friend. I would say it qualifies as a personal pizza from a size perspective or as an app to share among a group of no more than 3-4. It was a little spendy - but Gettysburg is a tourist area so I guess I wasn't terribly surprised. Service was pretty good - order at the counter and they brought the food. The manager came around to check on us and be sure we were all set. Overall a good experience. I'd return for something more substantial than cheese. read more
