We were on our way back to Cincinnati from the Hocking Hills and we stopped in Chillicothe for lunch. I looked at YELP to provide me with the information about the best restaurants in Chillicothe, and since the Old Canal Smoke House (we have stopped here several times in the past was closed) we checked YELP to see what other recommendations they had. Had great service on a busy Saturday lunch rush provided by Tabby. Place was popping but wait was not very long. Large cafe style layout with bar seating, small tables, & booth. I let my server choose between three options for me & she suggested the patty melt. It had a cheese blanket on it that was thick enough to smother you & was really good. Menu is quite varied with something for everybody. My father in law & mother in law are super picky eaters but both loved the honey roasted pecan salad. Glad to have another quality choice in Chillicothe when I'm here visiting in laws. read more

What a pleasant, comfortable stop for breakfast. Sought out the Coop while taking a road trip with the family. We avoid chain stores and prefer the personal touch and serve of smaller businesses. The Coop was a quaint, historically appealing little dinner with a cozy atmosphere. The menu has all one's normal breakfast favorites with great little additions. The hash was delicious and the French toast satisfied all our sweet tooth's. The wheat toast was cooked just right (not burned) and the pancakes were the right kind of fluffy. The staff was kind, helpful, friendly, and within their element. Only small dings to mention: -Coffee was a little bland -Sausage tasted like a routine generic brand Overall! Sometimes you can read a menu description and get a vision of it in your mind and are surprised when it doesn't match. 2 of us tried the bacacado and it was just ok. The third had scrambled eggs and pancakes with bacon and said it was good. Coffee was smooth but there was no real cream available. Service was friendly and non-intrusive as we chatted. Good amount of time passed between placing and receiving our orders. Have heard rave reviews so think it was just an off day. read more

Our 11 year old granddaughter was visiting for the weekend so that we could check out downtown Chillicothe shops and historic sites. We started here for breakfast, and the place was hopping! It gives a diner vibe; the vintage bar adds a nice touch. We joined the waitlist and were seated sooner than the time quoted. The staff were quick to recognize and clean open tables to keep the crowd moving. We ordered the Bacado Benny, Berry Dream, and Biscuits and Gravy with eggs and potato chunks. What an amazing experience! Stopped in here for coffee and breakfast. Wow, while I indulged in the hometown skillet; the perfect selection from the massive menu. The coffee was amazing, the food fresh and well presented with the perfect amount. What I found more inviting that anything was the atmosphere and service. We stopped here for brunch on a road trip. It was a weekday so it wasn't crowded. I ordered the Veggie Benny and my wife had the Mel's Scramble. All of the food was delicious. The Veggy Benny had a nice mixture of avocado, grilled onions, mushrooms and spinach. The sauce was not particularly lemony but it was good. Service was quick and polite and they gave us "to go cups" of our beverages to take back on the road. It was a nice place in an interesting little downtown area. A busy in town location with on the streets parking. The restaurant is only about a year old, but, it was old building, rustic, with worn brick, metal ceiling tiles and more. Lots of seating without being cluttered and crowded. Cleaning, care and attention was evident. The restaurant was full, but the excellent staff cleared a table for us and we were seated within 10 minutes. Our server was personable, attentive, helpful, and accurate. The food was very good, hot things hot. My omelet tasted fresh, plentiful and hot. My friend also liked his meal except for the bacon being over done. My side pancake presented itself well, it came with butter than was actually immediately spreadable, and powered sugar. Its flavor and the syrup were nothing outstanding. The coffee was good but priced in line with an upscale coffee shop. The menu is extensive for early day food. I'd recommend this restaurant and could return anytime. Now the food was good but small portions for the price as well. $13 for some eggs and sausage and you get little portions for the price I probably won't return!! We stopped in for breakfast on our way to Jackson. Love how Chillicothe has transformed their town. Quaint shops all over and easy to walk the area. The food service was good. It was very busy inside. The girls were multi tasking. The food selection was good. I chose a typical breakfast: eggs, bacon, hash browns and rye toast served with hot coffee. The Mel's Scrambler and Smavo! are my favorites so far, and grab a cinnamon roll to go! The Mound City Cobb is an outstanding salad and worth it for sure! Can't speak to the food as we never got any. When we arrived the hostess said we are a little behind maybe like 20 minutes is that okay? We said sure and were seated. After being seated our waitress took our drink order and brought them back ASAP. Then she ghosted us for 20 minutes, at that time she said the kitchen is backed up but they are almost caught up. It will be 20-25 additional minutes. WOW. Who has this kind of time for breakfast?
