We came in here today about an hour before they we're to close, and we bought a couple of things. Our original intention was to get plastic storage bins so that we can finalky organize our basement. They had some nice large containers on display with the clear plastic, but they had only three, we need like six of those. We skipped on those containers for the moment, but t didn't stop us from looking around a more cool stuff. They have some great closet systems, as well as, some nice kitchen racks that my wife was interested in. Mounds and mounds of containers of all shapes and sizes, we both were amazed. We decided to get the three drawer locking filing cabinet for my son and his school work. We will definitely be returning to this store in the near future to hopefully purchase the containers that we need. read more

PLEASE DO NOT USE THE CONTAINER STORE OR ELFA!! This is the WORST company to work with and their ELFA product is cheap and awful. My daughter bought her first place in DC and they completely took advantage of her. Made a design, she paid thousands of dollars up front. They no showed several times, she couldn't reach anyone. Then they dropped the products off at midnight. Returned a week later. She had her closet contents and their equipment all over her apartment for a week. When they came to install, IT DID NOT FIT (THIS IS A CUSTOM CLOSET) so he had to cut the metal pieces with a saw (leaving little metal shavings are all over her apartment still and she can't walk without shoes on because she can't get the tiny pieces up), AND IT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THE PICTURE THEY DESIGNED. Can't not reach anyone on the phone because, they got paid already, why should they care. I can not believe this stuff costs thousands. It's not even nice. The long coat area isn't even accessible from the opening or big enough; this is after the professional designer looked at her clothes and made a design. So the design isn't even good. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. Please go find any other closet place to do your closets and avoid this at all costs- this is my public service announcement. You are welcome! read more

We initially arrived a bit frazzled after getting caught in traffic on the way to our appointment. When we called to give a heads up, David was so accommodating and even gave us a parking tip. Our experience only improved once we arrived. David was able to meet our needs and help us really drill down on the priorities we had by asking all of the right questions. Although we had previously consulted with another company about renovating our closet, David made excellent points regarding the best way to maximize our closet space to achieve our storage goals. There are experts available to assist you in any project, including custom builds and large-scale overhauls. For the everyday or smaller needs, there's storage bins, containers, boxes, caddies, hangers, clips, hooks, and all kinds of other clever innovations and gadgets to get you home organized. I was in need of some bathroom and kitchen organization caddies, and the price was right! I expected that what I needed would cost much more. I will definitely return for more. I love the merchandise at the Container Store, despite the steep prices. However, this location as the most sarcastic, surly staff I've come across at a retail store in awhile. I approached a staff member to ask about home office desks that I'd seen online but wasn't finding in store. She proceeded to impatiently laugh and ask exactly what I was looking for, because she couldn't help me if I didn't know what I wanted because some thingd are only online. I thought "home desk" was a pretty narrow category but maybe not? She then pointed at the "Office" aisle signs and told me to just look at those signs and all of the office stuff was there as she started walking away from me. Never again at this location. I ordered two charcoal letter boxes and two clear cube organizers from the Container Store. Unfortunately, one of the items was not available for immediate pickup, so I scheduled a pickup for a then future date. The order confirmation was communicated via email with very clear instructions around the logistics of pickup. While I waited a few minutes in the front area of the store for the associate to bring my two orders from the back store room, the wait wasn't long, and physical distancing and masking was enforced. As such, my only recommendation would be to "check-in"/ confirm arrival several minutes before walking into the store to minimize the wait time. Overall, a smooth process. There is parking underneath the store. It shares the lot with Best Buy and one more store I believe. I was lucky enough to find parking across the street. The Container store seems a bit smaller than the one in Rockville, but I was able to find exactly what I needed. Cardboard boxes of all different shapes. They do have the Amac rainbow colored thin plastic boxes as well. I ended up getting a little lock box too. Cashier was friendly and plastic wrapped my boxes for me so it was easier to carry. The prices are ridiculous for a tote bin and the staff will only help you with your items to the parking garage. No matter if you didn't park inside the garage. I parked on the side street however they told me to drive all the way around the building, go inside the garage which is underneath the building, then take a ticket but they will validate for me. It's to much and it's an inconvenience to me especially after I just spent money in their stupid ass store! I would strongly advise against ordering Elfa Shelving from this Container Store if you are planning on having them install the system for you. After we had consulted with the store for several weeks, we purchased our system and were informed the installation team would contact us within 24-48 hours. Several days later, I followed up and apparently the Container Store had charged us an incorrect installation price for the system (by $400) and the installation team was not calling me as a result. We were forced to pay hundreds more to get back on the installation team's radar despite the error having been on their end. Even though we were now a week delayed, the Container Store still has not gotten the installation team to reach out to me even after making promises that they would. Now they are saying they won't even start the process of scheduling until Monday and there is nothing they can do. Elfa shelving is a good product for many but do not order from this Container Store if you need responsive support and accurate pricing for your orders. read more

This store is well-stocked and very organized. I was able to find everything I needed almost immediately. The one thing I have an issue with is the apathetic sales staff. Example #1: I had a question about a couple of items I was considering buying and had a hard time locating an employee on the floor. When I went back to the shelf to continue pondering my options, two sales people walked by but they completely ignored me--it seemed they were too involved in their flirtatious conversation with one another. Example #2: After I finally grabbed everything I needed, I couldn't fit all the large containers into my cart so I was pushing my over-filled cart with one hand and dragging the rest behind me with the other hand. I love The Container Store. Every trip I've made there has been a pleasant experience (a complete contrast from the ghetto service I receive at the Best Buy next door, but I digress...). During my recent trip there, I was buying boxes, crepe paper and tins to make care packages for kids I knew who were going off to college. While looking around, one of the employees approached me and gave suggestions. I liked how I was approached like a customer, not like a nuisance or a thief (as I've been treated in other places). This store is seriously the black hole of all of my money. Ever since this store opened a few years ago, I have been coming here (and sometimes dragging my friends here with me). My favorite time of the year is here - when the store is transformed into wrapping paper wonderland! I simply refuse to buy my wrapping paper needs anywhere else but here. They are so tricksy and get me every time by showing you all of the ways you can coordinate your papers with ribbons, strings, fun tags, bows...etc. It's hard for me to just pick one or two rolls of paper - and I always end up with more than I needed. Aside from my love of paper (you may also realize this about me after you've read my review of the Paper Source...) I do really love all of the other things you can get here to organize your stuff. From the teensy clear boxes in the back right corner of the store (yes, I have pretty much the entire layout memorized...), to the fun kitchen containers, office supplies and blue colored staples to the ELFA closet shelves that I so desperately want but can't afford...you can find just about ANYTHING you will ever need to get organized right here. I would say that about 70% of the things in my room are from the Container Store. Of all of the things I have obtained from this particular store, my favorite has to be the LABEL MAKER that I bought for 50% off. Yes, that's right. I got mine for $25. That was like...the best day ever. Lastly, I would like to say that I've never really had a bad experience here. Once I bought something I ended up not liking and I had no problems returning it. Everyone is very friendly and helpful and I will forever come to this store as long as I am still living in DC. read more

Last Friday (May 3rd) after work, I rode the Red Line over to The Container Store in Tenleytown. A colleague of mine had spoken glowingly to me about the place. So, I thought I'd check it out. The first thing that impressed me about the store was its sheer size and the ways items were placed within it. I was surprised to come across a set of heavy clothes hangers for sale. They had a solid cedar wood base (cordovan colored) and I snapped them up. They would be ideal for hanging up some of my suits, my U.S. Army World War II olive green trench coat which had once belonged to a beloved uncle who had served as an infantry officer in Italy during the War, and a light khaki trench coat I had bought shortly after I had moved to DC in the early 1990s. Furthermore, I bought a set of uni-colored pens, a few 2-Pocket folders, and a silver 4-in-1 Pen tool - a ball point pen that can also be used as a screwdriver and ruler. Neat, huh? The cashier who rang up my items was exceedingly helpful and made me feel that this store is a place well-worth visiting again in future. read more

I moved recently and found myself at The Container Store several times. The store is organized pretty logically and the clerks are really friendly (the kind of friendly that is almost over the top, but not fake). As others have said, there are some things here that are ridiculously overpriced, while there are others that can be a great deal, especially if there is a sale. I finally signed up for their "PopStar" rewards program--even though I won't be in here often enough to earn any points, it's awesome that they'll accept a return without a receipt if you join the program. This will probably be a go-to place for me for some time to come! read more

I only go to the Container Store for one style and size of plastic box because they stack well snd look tidy together. Otherwise, compared to Target and Walgreens, The Container Store is horribly overpriced. Lately, their staff has been short tempered and surly at the checkout and I leave there feeling abused and disrespected. I'm not sure what happened to this store. A few years ago they had great things and the people were lively, helpful, well-trained, and clearly happy to be there. I've been back a few times in the last few weeks in my current quest to organize my apartment some more, and I'm pretty dissatisfied. The items there are cheap - the storage boxes for example are as flimsy as they could be; and the people working there are frowny, frowsy biddies who, to take one example, 'can't hear me because of the radio in her ear' (speaking about the microphone/earphone combo the staff wears). It's like the previous store that I first reviewed was taken over and replaced by cheap unhappy aliens that look human. P.S. also they simply must stop thrusting their POPS program down my throat at checkout. They ask if I'm a member. I say no. They ask if I want to join. I say no, thanks. They ask if I'm sure and explain that it's free. I already said no thanks (and it's not 'free' - they collect demographics, info on what I purchase, and offer incentives to get me into the store in the first place). Sometimes they ask a third time. I already said no the first time AND on top of that, I've been in the store 3 times in the last 2 weeks and have to keep hearing this. Very annoying. read more

The only thing I hate more than cheap crap is crap that isn't cheap. I finally came around to putting together a laundry basket/bag by Riesenthel that I purchased at The Container Store and needless to say, it is utter crap. Everything is the wrong size, it doesn't fit together well, and it makes putting together IKEA furniture seem like a breeze. AND- it's a laundry basket!! How hard could that be?!?! The only saving grace is that The Container Store has a liberal return policy, but that doesn't mean it isn't a huge pain to trek up to Tenleytown just to throw my laundry bag in someone's face and get my money back. I still need a laundry bag, after all. Also, one other thing I got there is total cheap junk that wasn't cheap. I question how people can be proud of putting out such terrible products... read more

Ahh yes. The Container Store. Whenever I think of this store I think of the good times I had as a high school student two blocks away at Wilson. Or at least, I think of the one time in particular when me and a friend almost pulled off the greatest senior prank of 2004. We had to think of something really clever. Something that was sure to work. Lucky for us, we didn't have to do too much thinking because the idea came to us in the form of a disgusting, red-eyed, little insect that only shows itself every 17 years. Lucky us. The 17 year cicadas latched themselves to every tree in the city. If only we could gather a few hundred of them and release them in the school. But how? Never fear, the Container store is here. Using the long Memorial Day weekend we gathered around 500 of the little guys in large containers purchased at the local Container Store and waited until Tuesday to release them and have them serve their purpose as the little hell-raisers that they were. Unfortunately for us, the plan didn't work because, unlike other flying insects, they're not as spastic or as quick, So they were quickly swept up by the janitors after we had released them early in the morning (to avoid detection). Although this prank was foiled (ironically by the very things that were supposed to cause destruction), there was one thing that didn't fail us. The Container Store was a reliable provider of containers and I will definitely go back there again (probably for less devious purposes). read more

My closet doors are orange. Let me repeat: MY CLOSET DOORS ARE ORANGE! I'd prefer not to be reminded of Halloween or citrus fruits as I'm picking out my outfit for the day. But the couple who lived in our house before us was... "artistic" (and painted one wall an electric blue). So we've got contractors in here now, painting up a storm. But that's a whole other story. At least now, even though our closets are small, we are ORGANIZED - thanks to The Container Store! Their ELFA system is NOT cheap, people. But for the spacially challenged, it's worth it. I love The Container Store! I could browse for hours and hours in there! Of course, in Texas, they're everywhere. In the DC area, you have to play "hide and seek" to find this store and drive quite a distance. (I just found another one near Dulles.) Anyways, great stuff in here to contain your stuff. (bwahahaha!) Ok, there are different shapes and sizes to store your stuff for every rooms in your home. My favorite is there ELFA showcases. I just ooh and ahh when I see them. Seriously, I need to get some ELFA shelves for my closets. Right now, I just love how they've thought of everything to solve our problems. They sell these thin layers of transparent sheets that you can lay on your chrome-wired shelves that are used in your pantry or in your garage. However, don't be stupid, people! Shop and compare. While TCS does have some wonderful stuff, you can get them cheaper elsewhere...like at Target. read more

I've loved The Container Store for a long time, but the store at Tenleytown is the best one I've been to. I recently received an email for my birthday that said to bring it in for a free gift. When I checked out, the associate scanned it, but wasn't sure what she was supposed to give me. She was very professional and courteous about the situation and got her supervisor, David. He apologized when he wasn't sure either and made a quick call to see if he could find out. When he was unable to get an answer, he apologized again for the inconvenience and confusion and offered to take care of it himself. He proceeded to give me a $25 gift card instead of whatever the email entitled me to (which I'm sure was worth much less than $25). The customer service I received was amazing and I've never had a bad product from The Container Store...I particularly love the Elfa system. Great company and AMAZING customer service at the Tenleytown location. It will be my go-to store from now on! read more
