"Best Decision We Could Have Made"…read more Being an all vocal (a cappella) cover band focusing on R&B and Hip-Hop hits of the last 5 decades, we at Pitches Be Crazy (PBC) knew that producing our debut album would be a challenge. Our live shows incorporate technology and hardware that help to deliver a "full band" sound with only 5 vocalist. So as we approached how we wanted the album to sound, we wanted something that would give our fans that same feel of the live experience but in a professionally produced product. After recording all of the raw tracks in our in-house studio, we reached out to Blue Room Production (as recommended by a friend and local artist, Daniel "Yellow Tie Guy" Hill) to assist with the mixing and mastering of the album. From the beginning, Conrad (owner of Blue Room Productions) made us feel very comfortable, but more importantly, very confident that he and his team could meet our goals in producing this unique album. Additionally, the estimated costs were on target for our budget. We immediately signed up and began our journey to producing not just PBC's first album, but Blue Room Productions first project of this kind. Together, we would create something special. After an initial communication and "feeling out" period, we scheduled time with our assigned mix engineer, Devin Spears at the Virginia location of Blue Room Productions. The place is so comfortable that the most timid newbies to the studio world would feel welcome and encouraged to release ones inner "rockstar". Because of the uniqueness in our arrangements and overall sound, we began sitting in with Devin during mix sessions. Although we would guide the mixing process, it was Devin who recommended enhancements that really made the mix stellar. He took the time to listen and understand what we wanted the album to sound like. With very little guidance from us; Devin mixed everything quickly and accurately. After mixing the album, we spent a couple of hours with Conrad at Blue Room Production's Maryland location. A stark contrast from the Virginia location, Blue Room's studio in Maryland felt like you were on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. The space was just as comfortable as the Virginia location, but the vibe was so much more intense; as if we were about to embark on a mission to fight crime or something where in reality we were going to create the "dopest" R&B album ever! Throughout the mastering process, Conrad took the time to explain what he was doing. (This is not something that everyone wants to be a part, understands or even cares about, but I'm a tech guy so understanding the process and technique was welcome.) By the end of 2 hours, the debut album for PBC was complete and it far exceeds what we hoped for. Before partnering with Blue Room Productions, we toyed with the idea of mixing and mastering the album ourselves to try and save a few bucks but thankfully we came to our senses early and made the commitment to outsource these activities. We cannot begin to tell everyone that reads this that the money spent at Blue Room Productions is the smartest investment you can make for creating your produced music. Not only does Blue Room have access to a plethora of hardware and software to get your music sounding amazing, but also has a staff that are highly skilled and experienced and are second to none at what they do. Their awards for being some of the best in the business in the area is well deserved and saved us countless hours (and significant additional costs) had we tried to finish our album ourselves. Our journey with Blue Room Productions was one that we are very thankful for. We had used KBD before on a simpler renovation (new master bath shower) and we were delighted with their work, so didn't hesitate to engage them for this far more elaborate project. Why are these guys such great remodelers? Let me list just a few of the reasons. * Completeness: Except for appliances, KBD displays and sources everything that is required. You aren't sent around to countless vendors to look at their wares and then be the middleman in negotiating appropriateness, availability, prices, etc. * Design assistance: You are offered as much or as little as you need. But be forewarned, Rich and Olga are likely to be much more familiar with design issues than you - so that when they make their suggestions, you will hit yourself on the side of the head and wonder why you didn't think of these issues or ideas yourself. * Craftsmanship: With remodeling, everything doesn't always exactly fit together. Walls are not perfectly plumb, corners not perfectly square, ceiling heights may be wavy and floors are not perfectly flat. Thus, craftsmanship is required to neatly mount cabinets and appliances to that they look seamless. KBD installers (who are direct employees, not subcontractors) all made the extra effort to ensure that everything (even stuff that we would never would have noticed) was done right and looked perfect. Thanks, Tony, Walter, Mark, Raphael and Steve. * Predictability: You are told what work and workers are coming next; everyone arrives on time; and other than for weekends (and two snow days) work is done every day. Our full kitchen remodel was completed in just four weeks - slightly faster than initially estimated. * Neatness: Drop clothes and dust shields were laid/affixed every day. And no day ended without a through clean-up of the job site. * Price: As noted by other commenters, KBD's prices, while not discount rates, are very fair for the extent and quality of work being done - and below some quotes that we received from other remodeling firms. Further, you are not nickel-and-dimed for extra costs from minor changes or challenges. * Peace of mind: Remodeling can be stressful. For background, I have no interest in interior design and have no business spending real money on furniture I know nothing about. But I found myself in a situation where I had nothing for a space that had to be smartly utilized. And I wanted it to be beautiful. Was this really the time to experiment with Pinterest while spending thousands of dollars? & I needed the furniture to last long enough that I wouldn't have to think about this again for a very, very long time. I also needed to buy everything during a pandemic, when everything was delayed... So I turned to an option I never had considered before - hiring interior designers. I had heard great things about this team and wanted to explore sourcing this huge project out to them. It's a pretty simple process. You go to their website and fill out an intake form that introduces yourself and the project. Then they'll sell up a virtual call to meet and discuss your style, and budget. Then they came and looked at the space, took measurements. Then they pitched a proposal. From there you have to make some decisions. They are going to present you with options that may be outside of your budget. This is where we gotta grow up a little and recognize that if you want nice things, this is how much that actually cost. I was happy to increase my original proposed budget to get what I needed. But there were some peices that I wanted to spend less on and they quickly came back with lower priced options. They were very adaptable there. With that, they placed the order! Over the course of the next few months, the furniture started arriving. They work with a contractor who you can hire (through them, they handle all the admin work) who can assemble, hang, etc do all that work for you. They even came over to make sure everything was hung in the right spots. There is a science and art to design that they are factoring into every decision for your space, and it's worth their fee to get all your nice new furniture all in the right place. They look for beauty and functionality in every detail of the space. So now I have this gorgeous dining room [photo provided]. Our guests are blown away whenever they walk even towards the space. It's exactly what I wanted when I described the target ambiance to the team. Beautiful, relaxed, warm, stylish. I can't tell you how happy I am with my experience with Splendid & Swanky and the confidence it brought me about my home.
