So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. One gesture that I thought was just so classy, was the owner called in the middle of the move to check-in on how things were going - I really appreciated that. In turn, IMRG hired Zip Van Lines to move us from Louisiana to Michigan. They used a bait and switch tactic to draw us in. The first estimate was within our budget. Right before the movers arrived, they bumped the price up by 50%. It was too late to cancel then. All of my family had passed away. I raised money for the move by selling off their furniture and other belongings. These companies drained our savings. We couldn't pay the final charge at delivery. They put our belongings in storage and refuse to deliver them. They have my family photos and their military funeral flags. I've been in talks with them, they have one lie after another. The load pictures show that our load was much less than they claim, they actually owe us a refund. They still claim the load was larger. Zip Van Lines falsified the Bill of Lading and now they are lying about the size of our load. They are even claiming that the truck holds 1952 cubic feet of space, but there's no evidence that Zip has a truck of that size! These companies are scammers and I advise staying far from them! They're holding our goods hostage and our evidence shows it as theft and the money they demand is extortion. DO NOT HIRE EITHER OF THESE COMPANIES!!!

The estimate was in line with the other companies I reached out to but they were the only company that provided a time estimate, and that was really helpful for me to feel like I could truly get an idea of my likely final cost range (assuming I didn't add anything major to my moving list). Booking was easy and done entirely online and then via email and text message for confirmations. My movers were Luca and Alpha. The called about 40 minutes before the start time to let me know their ETA, which was actually about 10 minutes before the arrival window started so we were off to a great start. Moving day is always nerve-wracking and adding strangers into the mix can be unpredictable, but they both took the time to introduce themselves by name and were so polite, kind, and calm right off the bat that it was a huge relief. We did a quick walkthrough of the house and they asked for clarifications or more information at times, which was great because I felt like they were really listening and paying attention to my comments and concerns. Then the move itself was smooth and uneventful. I didn't have any concerns about my furniture because I saw them wrapping everything up securely. At one point, a screw came loose from one of my table legs. Alpha found me to ask if I knew about any issues with the legs on that table. I told him it was a second-hand table so I wasn't sure, but asked if it was a big issue. He said no, and that he could put the screw back in, but he wanted other make sure I knew it had happened. I know that's partially because they don't want to be blamed for something they didn't do, but I still appreciated that they called it to my attention right away so there weren't any issues or questions later, and that he was able to fix it for me. Once we got to the new place, they took the time to ask where I wanted specific furniture or boxes to go in my new place so that I wouldn't have to move it all to a different room later. They wrapped up just a little ahead of the estimated time and it was super convenient to pay with Venmo. All-in-all it was a great experience and I'd use them again if I'm moving in the area.

They snapped a piano leg on the first move and ruined a 2nd on the subsequent move. The piano's finish is also ruined in five or six additional places, requiring a total refinishing. One of the items moved was a treadmill that was fully operational before the move. During the move, the treadmill was forced through a doorway rather than being disassembled. I have video of the process as well as evidence of paint transfer showing contact between the treadmill and the doorway. After the move, the treadmill no longer powered on and the display was damaged. When Mr. Craig later visited my home, he stated that someone would be sent out to repair the treadmill. However, I subsequently received a claim denial stating there was no evidence of mishandling or damage by the crew and that the company was not responsible for the malfunction. What I find most troubling is that the company inspected the home, accepted the treadmill for transport, moved it, and then later took the position that the treadmill should have been disassembled before being moved. If that was truly the concern, it should have been identified before the move took place. I paid for valuation coverage with a $500 deductible and attempted to resolve this matter directly with the company. Unfortunately, we were unable to reach a resolution. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Craig Van Lines. I encourage anyone considering their services to carefully review all contract terms, document the condition of valuable items before a move, and record any concerns immediately. This review reflects my personal experience and opinions.

I had the PCS (Permanent Change of Station) move to a five-bedroom house, yet it took his team longer (6 hours total) to move a one-bedroom unit. This only serves to highlight how outstanding the Crain Van Lines crew is. I wasn't sure where the reviews with 4.5 stars came from on Google.
