The Container Store offers storage and organization products, and custom closets. The company has made Fortune's list of "100 Best Companies to Work For" for several years. Garrett Boone and Kip Tindell met while working in the paint department of Montgomery Ward. On July 1, 1978, The Container Store opened in a small, 1,600-square-foot retail space in Dallas. Kip Tindell (Chairman and CEO), Garrett Boone (Chairman Emeritus), and architect John Mullen opened a retail store offering a mix of products devoted to helping people simplify their lives. In doing so, they originated a new category of retailing (storage and organization). Initial cash capital was provided by Garrett, his father, and John Mullen, who were founding directors, officers and shareholders of the company. In 1999, the company bought one of its main suppliers, Elfa International, a Swedish corporation that specialized in shelving and storage units. This particular store is Cranston, at the Garden City shopping center is one of the anchor stores of the entire shopping area. It is well lit, roomy and very clean. The staff is helpful and well trained. If you really want a One-stop-shop place for all your organizing needs, this is the place. You can walk up and down the aisles and you will find most of what you need for organizing your home or office. If you are a bargain shopper, this might not be the best place for you. You pay for convenience here. Most of the items are 20-50% more expensive than similar items at Walmart or Target, but again, you might not find everything you need at those mega-retailers. read more

Another year, another disappointment despite speaking with a manager last year about the lack of Hanukkah paper, bags, and bows - placed at the end cap at the back of the store far away from the rows of xmas paper, bags and bows. I do not belive anything has changed. I look forward to seeing if the store has different offerings. Online there are a mere 2 Hanukkah bags, and 2 wrapping papers - a sorry design with blue roses of all things - years before that was not the case. X-mas would rival Hanukkah with the selection. Hands down this is one of my favorite stores to visit. it's spacious, clean, and very organized. they really practice what they preach. The staff are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about the various product lines that the store carries. They have a decent rewards program and the prices for products are reasonable. they also offer great return services. You can shop for just about anything online now but appreciate being able to try out the products in store especially it they have various features and require some assembly. This store makes organizing for myself and others less stressful. I'm looking forward to making many more visits to this store in the future. read more

I must confess, yes I'm actually saying those words, I don't usually write reviews in a timely manner! AND many times I don't write reviews at all. There it's out, I've said it! Well I just returned home from The Container Store and I have been smiling and have had a happy feeling inside since I left! I'll start with the employees! (After all, aren't they the last ones to have anything good written about them! ). They are ALL the most uplifting, helpful, kind people I have ever met! First of all, it was marvelous to shop in a store that actually had associates working in almost every aisle and sometimes two or three in each department! They were actually smiling! They were happy and they were all helpful! They loved their work! They love helping you and actually get excited when they can help you find just the right thing you need! More stores could learn a lesson from the management of this organization! There is no way one can leave this store in a depressed or unhappy mood! Now the products! If you need a container or drawer organizer or closet organizer for something, anything, they have it!!! Big, small, or in between. ..it's there! Also they have different price ranges for most of their products! They even have mops, dish racks, toilet bowl brushes in great looking holders! Just think about what you MIGHT need that may be for organization and it's there! I know that in one of the previous reviews someone said you can find the same the same things in Wal-Mart. ..well I'm telling you that you MAY find similar items however, you WON'T find the same quality or service! Just speaking for myself, I would rather pay a little more for the better quality product and not have to replace it in two months...and also I would even pay a bit extra just for the attention, help and good feeling I left this shopping trip with! We were driving through Cranston, ended up in Garden City and decided to stop by the Container Store to check things out. I must say, it has been a while since I was last in there. Not much has changed. They have everything you would need and not need for your home. Bins to store your bins in, holders to hold your holders, from hangers to huge closet installations... They have it all! I sometimes get overwhelmed with ALL that they have to offer. Did you know they have an entire gift wrap center? Fun wrapping papers, bags, ribbons and containers to hold them all! The staff is always friendly and it is always a good place to stop by and look around! read more

Not everything at the Container Store is a good deal but it is a really excellent place to get ideas and find something if you are looking for a specific kind of hanger, bin, bag, basket, drawer organizer, lunchbox, monitor riser, filing cabinet, etc. There is something really satisfying about finding a nice looking container that fits an exact need or a container that is so cool one invents a need for it. :) I am a big fan of the wire shelving units they sell under the brand Metro for basement storage and you can find any shelf or add on you can dream of at the Container Store. At this location I have found a few nice things in the clearance section including clear plexiglass pen holders and a set of red metal drawers (both for half price). After shopping around online I did order some of the bright red Bisley filing cabinets and really enjoy having them in my office. Otherwise I have mostly bought plastic containers and lots of hangers at this shop. Picking up online orders is easy and the staff has always been very, very nice. I don't usually get the text message confirmations that my orders are ready when I should but receive a good response if I call to check on things. I'm looking forward to returning to this shop occasionally. read more

I love the container store. The marie kondo like organization makes me feel so relaxed and inspired to organize my own apartment. I usually bring a friend and spend a good 45 minutes browsing the organization genius. I do find this store on the pricier side so I tend to buy larger items or items that are very specific. I usually wait until I get a coupon as a rewards member to buy these items. For smaller items I try to find them at other stores at cheaper prices or create my own DIY version of the products that they have here. read more

I bought 10 set glass container for lunches for $29.99. Great deal since they are BPA Free, you can freeze it, microwave it and its dishwasher safe.......The item was sold out but the sales associate helped me order the items and in a few days I will have my product..... read more

I really wish I had written down the name of the amazing lady that ran around the store with me for a solid half hour trying to find the "perfect" size storage cubes for my nursery. Wow, she was above and beyond any reps I see. The variety of options are great and the pricing isn't super crazy. Sure, some items are a bit more expensive, but definitely competitive to what's out there. Plus, you can find every organizational item you may need in one place, and you'll find a friendly, helpful staff. I love it here. Great job! read more

Very underwhelming. I came here on Memorial Day, and it was a clustermess of people and not one person asked if I needed help with anything.... the one time I actually needed help finding something. This place is highly overpriced. I can go to Office Max, Staples, or Bed, Bath, and Beyond (or a local mom and pop place) for all of my container needs. Or, IKEA (which we all know is my favorite place in the entire world.) I was hoping that they would have a larger bento/lunch box collection, or at least one that was organized and easy to find, but alas, I was not impressed. I really don't plan on coming back here, the prices are high, and the selection is nothing that I can't find elsewhere. read more

I was so excited for The Container Store to be here, I was literally counting down the days until they opened their doors. I finally made it there on a miserable, rainy day and while perhaps it was all the anticipation, I found my over-all experience to be some what anticlimactic. Here's a tidbit about me: I love organizing. I love neatness, I love cubbies, I love finding the right thing to fit another right thing. Thusly, I love The Container Store. And while this particular location has all the stuff you need to be neat and organized, there was just something lacking from my experience. I wasn't wowed, there was nothing I couldn't leave without, there was nothing I absolutely had to have at that moment. They could benefit form better displays and merchandising, as it was all a bit overwhelming to take in. The staff is lovely -- everyone wanted to help, and when they did it was with a sincere joyfulness that was really lovely. I was even offered a hand to my car with my bags, especially since it was raining. That was a nice touch. So, I will certainly be back to this location, but from here on out it will be with an agenda and a list to keep myself focused and from getting overwhelmed. I suggest you do the same! read more

WARNING: An obsessive compulsive paradise. They sell a box to put inside the container - that holds the bag that hangs on your rack, in the cupboard, with the peg board organizer. Legit. If you need it they have it. Today we went to the Grand Opening, we were not able to enjoy it fully with all the unorganized shoppers, clumsily traipsing around, looking for the components to all those awesome interests they have "pinned" to their "organization" board in cyber space. I being one of them, left with a great new rack to hang my serving utensils from, and a container to house my bag of dog food. I'd say I did pretty well for day one. They cover most departments including, kitchen, bath, laundry, bedroom, bathroom, office, kids room, closet etc. The prices were on point for most things. The more detailed or "installed" items were way out of the ball park. $1300 for a crafting station, holy-moly :) read more

As soon as I walked in today, several people greeted me and Kayla S showed me where I could find what I was looking for (a riser for a flat screen TV) and several options as well.. The color was not going to match so she advsied me to try the company's website and also told me about the larger stores in New York where I live that carry more in stock. Was beyond exited to try this store out! I'm a container freak! :) Had a few ideas in mind for new storage I needed. Hey have zillions of tho ha to choose from but make sure you have plenty of time to look at it all. I gave four stars because I feel the things I found weren't as unique as I had hoped for. I was thinking they would have new inventive ideas but it's was just the basics. Overall a great experience just don't expect them to re-invent the wheel. :) read more

Helped me get all my baskets, brought them to the checkout, and then even brought and loaded them in my trunk because I was pushing my baby in a carriage. FANTASTIC customer service! I placed an order for store pick up, in the ordering process I was not aware until after I received my order confirmation email that the order would not be ready until the following day, I live over an hour and a half from the store and was already going to be in the area for the day, I called when they opened to see if there was a chance it would be ready earlier and was told maybe by 5 which is 1 hour from closing so I showed up at 5 to check and was told it wasn't ready yet and when I explained my situation and that I could only pick up my order on this day they rushed to finish it for me! Upon handing my order over to me they noticed one of the items was slightly damaged and they did not have any more of that item and it is on back-order so they were able to offer me that item at 50% off. Every one was so pleasant and understanding of my situation and extremely helpful! Will definitely be back when I'm in the area again!. read more

With a closet project in mind I headed out to the Container Store. I measured and even drew out a picture of my closet. Before measuring I wrote down everything I wanted to accomplish with a new closet, like hanging clothes, short or long hang, shelves, drawers, and more. Without an appointment I walked over to the design center (a nice space with a couple of computers, desk area and closet displays) and within 5 minutes I was being helped by a designer, Kati. She looked over my measurements, pictures and plans we chatted for a few and then she handed me a restaurant pager, you know the kind that lights up and vibrates, told me she will page me when she is done creating my new closet in about 20 minutes or so. The 20 minutes went by and I was back at the design center viewing the plans of my new closet on the computer. Kati had created my new closet! She explained in detail the plans and what it consist of, asked my thoughts as she did, I had plenty to ask, she showed me using the closet displays what it looked like and how it comes together. After I chose the last detail of my closet, I had the big decision - to go DIY or have it installed?? Kati did reassure me that I could do this myself and everything but the tools would be provided BUT I went with the install. I played it safe. I scheduled the install a week later. The install does not come with delivery, for $80 more it will. I opted to pick it up myself and cut my cost down. The day before the install I picked up my closet. The staff at The Container Store had it ready in a shopping cart, they rolled it out to my car and loaded it up, so easy! I did need to lay the seat down to accommodate the length. The day of the install was here and I was ready to give my installer the hour window I was told to expect but didn't need to! He was right on time - always a good sign. He had the same plans as I had and he got right to work. He spent time answering my questions and explaining how the closet was coming together. He was clean and polite.I was so happy! A hour and a half later my closet had been transformed to the closet I planned out, yes! I am working my next project soon and The Container Store is where I will be! read more

Truthfully I was really excited to finally go to the Container store now that there was one somewhat close by. I had to go for two reasons; get toy storage for my son and shop displays for my own shop. The shop displays I found first and found them to be competitive prices for some items I couldn't get anywhere else besides online. But the toy storage was nowhere to be seen for items that they had listed as in stock online - and are still listed in stock. I had to track down an associate as no one asked if I needed any help, and he said they were out of stock. I drove over an hour to get to this location and figured maybe (but unlikely) that someone bought them out before I got there. Checked again when I got home and it said they still have 16 in stock yet the person checked the back and said they were sold out of both sizes of the thing I was looking for. Of course there were plenty of far more expensive options and he told me they were probably going to get more of what I was looking for next Thursday. I looked around some more and still spent close to $100 for my shop displays, but then my friend was treated very rudely by the cashier. So when you have a customer dropping a decent amount of cash, maybe be nice to the people they are with? Just disappointing and over priced. The things I bought are good but I won't be coming here as often as I thought I would. read more

While the merchandise is nice, it's overpriced and nothing different from the storage containers that one would find at Bed Bath & Beyond or Target. I went in looking for a certain type of laundry basket, which they did not have. A small plastic container that holds a sandwich was priced at $9, and a cheap plastic wine rack at $30 - ridiculous. Very cool place. It's obviously very organized and colorful. Everything is there for any room in your home or office. I bought a little of everything for my kitchen update and of course the middle section with things like iPhone cases, cords, etc draws you in too spend money on stuff you really don't need but say what the hell and buy lol. Plus it's all in Christmas colors and music so the draw in is there. Ill definitely be going back once my house is sold and I'm due to update new home. A little pricey but that's what you get for an organizing store. read more

Very friendly, very helpful staff. Wonderful shelving units with a contemporary look that assemble so easily that I will never buy Ikea shelves again. One negative thing, there tends to be a bottleneck at the checkout registers...one reason being that they ask whether you have registered there, do they have your e-mail address, etc. and with seemingly no regard for how long a line may be behind you, try to get you to give them that info. read more
