This store is ridiculous. For a container store, one would think that it would be organized? I couldn't access any of the back right of the store. None of the gift wrappings, business supplies, small cubical organizers. Nothing. There were boxes thrown all over the place, it was a complete wreck. My second issue is when I actually WAS able to find something I needed, the price wasn't even shown. I couldn't find the price on THREE items I needed. So I just didn't buy them. This was my first and last time going into a container store. I will look elsewhere. read more

My aunt showed me this place when I was visiting her in L.A. I was overwhelmed and inspired when I stepped into the place. It was like IKEA's container department but bigger. I've been a loyal customer of the Container Stores for years and years. I've shopped Los Angeles, San Diego, Farmers Market and the Costa Mesa locations. Until recently I've bought totes, bin's, hangers and such but in the last two years I've been upgrading the closets in our home. Recently we've been purchasing Elfa Systems for our last two guest bedrooms and had the opportunity to work with Chelsea Neal. Prior to that we bought Elfa Systems for our two Master Bedroom closets and worked with several other designers on those projects. Although my prior experiences were good, I immediately took a liking to Chealsea. She was polite, friendly and eager to help! I just happened to walk in at the right time and she was happy to squeeze me in without an appointment. We discussed her design background and quickly laid out a plan to modernize our last two closets. She actively listened, took notes and drew out a design that was perfect for our needs. She took into consideration the current spare parts we had from prior installations to reduce my overall cost. As a business owner, I recognize excellent customer service and can't tell you how much I appreciate the time and effort people put into their job when they enjoy their work. I referred her to a friend of ours who was in the process of remodlong their home and they didn't understand the value that Chealsea represented. Sharing their experience with a different designer, I pressed them to go back and meet with Chelsea. They did and subsequently reworked the Walk-in closet, and was now overly satisfied with design and purchased an Elfa System for their closet. This is a rather unique store as they sell "containers" of all sizes and purposes - from the tiny little ones you put on a desk or inside a drawer to the super large ones for your garage. They also have modular containers that you can hook up into a storage system. Pretty impressive. It is definitely the place to go to pick up the containers to organize your house or your garage. Organize your closet, kitchen, cabinets, desk and drawers. Selections are close to numerous, and there are plenty of colors and designs to choose from. Unique concept. Cool products. Go for bathroom storage canisters or a good looking solution for storing toilet paper. I hoped my husband would be inspired to design how he wanted his home office after a visit here but it didn't take. He thinks its overpriced. I like the children's hangers. I recommend this place before a trip. I like that they carry Real Simple magazines near the cashier. I'd love one of the Simple Human trash cans. I'll be back because I have a gift card. It was difficult for me to choose among the storage containers here until I fell in love with silk-lined boxes I don't have furniture for. The closet organization systems look great. There weren't a lot of employees outside of the registers though. read more

I'm a FAN! This place is so much fun, so many awesome things you can find to organize your home. It's not as big as I imagined, but I think the boyfriend and I were in the store for a good 45 minutes to an hour just looking around. I was surprise to find different gift boxes, I now know where to go when I need a certain gift box size. :) It's true what fellow Yelpers say - their prices can be up there, but it's worth the price if it's something you can't get anywhere else. This place is located in the Metro Pointe at South Coast which has Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Boudin Sourdough Bakery & Cafe, Edwards Cinema, etc with plenty of parking! We happen to walk in here this past Saturday to re-organize our closet space. We entered with no appointment, kind of an idea of what we wanted, and hoped for the best. Pauline was the person who helped us, and she was not only talented, but extremely kind and patient. She walked us through every step of the way, and we feel very lucky to have worked with her. What a horrible experience after spending a considerable amount of money to buy closet systems for seven closets. Upon delivery, numerous items were missing and I had to go through everything myself to figure out what was wrong. Turns out they gave us completely incorrect items and I had to figure this all out. The "professional" closet design was a joke as the on-site expert jammed so much in the closet you couldn't fit anything else. Upsell much???? When I went back to the store to return the excessive amount of items they overcharged me for, a kind witch came outside to let me know I could not park and unload the full trunk I had in the loading/unloading zone. She was so kind it made me really appreciate the customer service this store is obviously lacking. I will never go back to this store again. read more

Very very poor customer service. I called inquiring about my purchased on line. Person who answered me was in a hurry, didn't make me finish what I was saying. When I made the purchased on line they didn't even send me a receipt of the order. I have to call them and ask for the receipt/confirmation of my order few days after. They e-mailed me a receipt. They said they sent me a text for the pick up date of my order but I never receive one. After all these, they made it worst with a very bad customer service. read more

If you are looking for a storage container, you would think you could find all the storage containers you could ever want or need at this store. Well, this was not the case when I came here looking for a box for storage purposes. Walked in and was immediately hit with a wall of chemical and plastic type of smell. If I could smell it through a mask, it definitely stunk! I am guessing the odor was caused by all the plastic containers that they sell here? Wandered throughout the entire store looking for 1 storage box, and left empty handed. Why? Their shelves were empty! Every aisle I went through had empty shelves. The stock that they did have on the shelves was so overpriced for the quality of the product. Why bother with this store when you can literally walk across the car park to another nearby store and find storage containers and storage gimmicks elsewhere?! First off organizing is a basic knowledge it's common sense who doesn't know how to organize and why does One person need a whole I'll of the same thing. They don't have any rules on you can't buy 100 of the same product because we have other people that want to buy things. so they clearly don't have anything so I was already frustrated enough that there's nothing even here. everything on my list they didn't have. So I have four items and I wanted to check out and one of them I guess was a display and the cashier said I can't buy it so I went back and picked out 4 more of The same exact item and they were all displays and I showed him they were all displays and he said he can't sell it so I asked if he can go find one that he can sell. So he came back and said there's 30 of the same things on display that he can't sell why would you ever HAVE 30 OF THE SAME F****** THING YOU CANT SELL LIKE ARE U KIDDING ME? A cute store for people who like organizing or who are trying to become more organized. Prices vary. There are cheaper made in China plastic items and more pricey items. I would suggest going here during sales. It's a large store with lots of different selections. I was pleased to find some items that I thought would make my life a little more convenient. The only customer service in the store were the cashiers. To me it seems like they could benefit from having some staff helping people find things. The store is vast and people could probably benefit from some guidance. I'll still go back. Organization and containment is a job that just doesn't end. read more

I got Elfa closets designed and installed by this store. The installer was 3 hours late and didn't bother to call me until AFTER he was late for the appointment. Then they tried to reschedule me instead of showing up to get the installation done. I've already recommended to friends that they us California Closets or another source. After getting 3 other quotes (Closet Factory, Closet World, private contractor) ranging from $1300-$1400 for one closet, Container Store was the best. Their June 2016 special included free installation for purchases over $750. John, my designer, was able to design a closet, send it to me via computer and in two hours I was done. He had exactly to my wants and needs without having me to walk into the store. Within 3 days he had the installer in my home and in less than 1 hour had everything installed, set and done! John was so awesome.... He listened, answered all my questions and provided excellent service. Thank you John!!! read more

Really I have a love / hate relationship with this chain. Love that they have a variety of offerings and that there is always something I want here. Hate cause they have so many neat things I want it all, but really truly wouldn't use a lot of it. Headed here to find a storage container for all my rubber stamps, so they can finally be all housed in one place. And if they didn't have a good container here, I mean, really there is no good container on the planet Earth. Of course, I found multiple containers that filled the need and they were pink, so I then had to make a choice about narrowing it down to just ONE container to take with me...see, this is where the hate part comes in. ;) Cash registers were a touch slow in getting people moving and the parking lot here is a touch difficult to navigate, so be ready on those two counts. We came to this location originally to browse and see what we could find that could contribute to helping us get a little more organized. Of course we found lots of things that we "needed". The selection is seriously out of control. We ended up settling on a few items to help our pantry and kitchen get more organized and are very satisfied with our purchases. Every employee I came into contact with was friendly and happy to direct me to any portion of the store I was looking for. I ordered 9 items all in stock 14 miles from my house at the Costa Mesa location for delivery. It's been 4 weeks and I received 1 item. I have sent emails to costumer service 4 times now. I have left my phone number on the call back twice and never received a call back. I even left a voice mail message with no replay. For a brick and mortar company this is by far the worst customer service I have ever had. I am right now 1 hour and 52 min on hold waiting to talk to someone so I can just get my money back all $135 of it. I don't want this store to profit one penny from me. Don't have anything shipped because you will never receive it and you'll get emails that say sorry but nothing on when they expect to be sending you your items. I have checked the Costa Mesa location innovatory every week and all items I ordered are in stock and have been in syet I still don't have my items. I thought this store had a good reputation I was dead wrong. I can't believe your company is still accepting shipping orders if you can't get them out. This place is cool, cuz it just has the expected (containers) and some cool jazz like baseball holders. It also has fun and festive supplies for your house. It's somewhat like a targetish version of Crate and Barrel. The stuff isn't as classy, but you walk through there eyeballing random things, some of which, you just might take home. This is the first time I've been to one of these stores. A lot of great items here, but it's very pricy. It is a good store to get some ideas though. There are some great deals and clearance prices as well. So even though it's a bit pricy, you might find some great clearance prices on some useful organizing items. I was able to find a little gadget to wrap my headphones to only for 99 cents! This one little item made it worth the entire visit and walk through practically every aisle. I came in here a couple of weekends ago with my husband to browse. One of their employees stood near the entrance and offered no assistance whatsoever, which surprised me because she looked like more than just a "designated greeter". The store itself was relatively clean, bright, and well-stocked. They tried to create vignettes for their office shelving systems but nothing really leapt out at me as a must-buy item. Overall, the products presented felt overpriced for the quality. I couldn't think of a single purchase I actually wanted to make despite knowing we need things for our home. Procured five fabulous wrought iron collapsible book cases from this location and absolutely love them. Use the two smaller book cases for DVDs. Use a medium book case and a tall book case for books, and use another tall book case for games and displaying photos. Excellent choice where storage is lacking and space is tight. Even have one positioned in front of a light switch and because of the design, the light switch is still easily accessible. Also found these handy charcoal air deodorizers here that are ever so useful for shoe closets and the trunk of the car. I've tried conventional car air freshener a before but they usually smell chemically unnatural so this deodorizer is a pleasant alternative. Helpful employees. Further customer service training required. She gave me answers but I'm now considering canceling my order I placed an online order for curbside pickup. But pickup date was 2 weeks out. Only one avail of the clearance item. So now I'm wondering will someone in store be able to buy it from underneath me? I called and the phone rings about 20 times. Its 1:00 pm saturday. The person that picked up answered my questions but made me feel terrible for calling - perhaps she thought I should have hung up? She rushed me through my questions, didnt let me talk and was impatient. She got my order number wrong twice even though I was exact. Why should I be made to feel horrible about interrupting her day? I LOVE the container store! A person can spend a whole day just walking around looking at things in which to put things! I have a lot of stuff, and this place is a dream. I can just imagine how much better my life would be if everything were in a container. How nice. How organized! :] Ahhhhhhhhh...peaceful. Although the people and the service at the bricks and mortar store are find; THE ONLINE ORDERING SIDE OF THIS BUSINESS IS SO AWFUL THAT I WON'T BE SPENDING ONE CENT OF MY MONEY IN ANY CONTAINER STORE IN THE FUTURE. I ordered online because of COVID-19. I wanted to pick up curbside but the closest store available for that was almost 60 miles from my home. I got an email stating that their shipping could take up to 2 weeks. Then another email that it could take up to 3 weeks. Then a third email thanking me for my patience, which I no longer had. Four weeks after I'd placed the order, I used their website to track my order (not shipped yet). I canceled it via their online email form. Then I called their 800 number and stayed on hold for 47.5 minutes and finally pressed the button to have them return my call. I've done that now for six days straight, varying the time of my calls. I've never received an answer to my emails (8 so far), or my phone calls (counting today 7 calls). My local store has opened for curbside and I placed a new order, and picked it up. The actual store, like I said above, was fine. The CSR who brought my order out was pleasant, the merchandise was correct. I got home and found an email saying that my original order had shipped (29 days after I ordered it). I have tried again to reach a living person via email, phone, and Facebook. I am going to file a claim with my credit card for the original order. If The Container Store wants the merchandise back, they can damn well contact me and I'll return it. However I am not going to waste anymore of my time trying to reach these people. How sad it is that a brick and mortar store can do everything right but their corporate structure is so horrible that even the nice people in the actual stores are tainted. read more
