We got here just around 6pm on a Sunday and got seated right away. If you are looking for noodles or porridge entrees, this is the place to be! I got the "build your own" noodle soup with beef stew and wontons. You can either get the traditional thin noodles or the flat noodles (I got the flat noodles) and the portion is big as usual! The beef stew is super tender and flavorful (yet not overly salty) and I crave their wontons every time we are here! I like the chicken and abalone flavor or the pork and century egg flavor, classic. To fill up more, I get a side of fried chicken wings and they come out freshly fried. The Congee is great for people who love Asian porridge and wonton soups or fish balls. This place surprisingly is really good and located in the heart of Alhambra. Even though this place is small and only has a few tables it gets busy with people waiting for a table. That is what happened to us for a party of four. The parking lot is shared by other stores in the back of Valley Blvd. If you live close to this area and you are craving some tasty porridge I would just get this place for to-go orders. You can call in which I saw many people were doing during lunchtime. I enjoyed my abalone and chicken porridge. The porridge has a nice consistency and the taste was just right. If you want to add a little kick to it you can put in white ground pepper which is in one of the glass bottles on the table. Their sister location closed several years ago in Rowland Heights, so I make it a point to stop in when I'm in the area for the best wonton noodle soup in the San Gabriel Valley. The last few times, I was feeling under the weather and ordered the wonton soup with house made fish balls and egg noodles. The bowl comes out piping hot, and the wonton is packed with several whole shrimps. You also have options of getting your entree dry - with soup on the side or all inclusive. Besides wonton soup, they offer congee, although I've never tried. Another favorite of mine here, is the beef stew with wonton soup. Customer service is on point, and the food is served within minutes of ordering. You can actually see the cooks making the food since the place is so small, but busy with Cantonese clients. The soups had plenty of flavor and the egg noodles were just right. We really should have added some duck to this for a proper comparison to what and how I normally order my wonton noodle soup. i loved The Congee! I was searching for soup places in Alhambra and YELP did not disappoint. Being sick with something viral, I needed something more than arroz caldo (which I made 2 nights prior), and The Congee had different congee offerings PLUS some wonton noodle soup alternatives. My hubs wasnt yet sick at this point so he picked it up. I didnt get to experience the "ambiance" but according to his words: there is no ambiance. Just a really crowded asian restaurant. Ohkay so maybe hubs isnt the best eyes for objectively scoping out new gastronomical places. While the only service I got from them was calling them and ordering food for pickup, they did give very prompt service and had our food out in 15-20mins as promised. We spent about 30bucks for congee with century egg and beef wonton noodles. They hit the spot! They sent spices on the side as well. Will definitely be back! read more
