First off, you will find a vast and constantly changing selection of antique and vintage home furnishings and decor- cabinets, hutches, shelves, accent tables, kitchen ware, a dizzying array of baskets in all shapes and sizes - which the the kind owners gather as they hunt estate sales, flea markets and the like. Most of these pieces are American made, all are handcrafted and one-of-a-kind. Some will have been lovingly restored by proprietor Damien - who also crafts new pieces and can do so to your specifications! We recently bought a house in the area and are slowly making it our very own. I'm in need of a short shelf/hook rack, which might easily be obtained as a cheap piece of crap from Walmart mass-produced in communist China - or I'll pay a few dollars more and have one handmade right here in Ohio. Take a guess which I've decided on. In addition to wood crafts, proprietress Shannon makes personalized T shirts, coffee mugs and koozies with a great selection of designs to choose from. Still don't see something that grabs you? No worries, bring your own design and she'll make it happen. They say you can't always get what you want but that doesn't seem to apply here! Something here for everyone and great gift ideas too. Any unscheduled closing (doesn't happen often) is posted on their facebook page, so if you're making a special trip might want to check that first- or call. My other tip is, if you see something that grabs you- grab it now! I highly recommend you get over to the Workshop.

I also noticed a bit of jewelry in a case up front next to the registers and I found a brooch I liked in there. I didn't have a lot of time today as my husband was with me and he is not much of a shopper. They did have quite a lot of shoes but they pair I picked up and thought I might buy were $20 and I really felt like that was too much. I will have to check this location out another time when I have more time but at first glance I did not like it as well as some of the other locations I have been to.

We're talking $2 or $3 apiece (I got a tweed skirt for $1 recently) so don't expect to find last year's hottest fashion here, but everything is clean and in good shape and you may be surprised. Unfortunately, no place to try them on but at these prices, you'll have to take the chance. You'll also find books, CDs, toys, stationery, housewares, knickknacks, seasonal décor. I snagged some gently used large Christmas gift bags for 50 cents each. If you select a used bible or prayer book off the shelf, that item will be free - though I'm sure your conscience will tell you to fork over a buck or two as a donation. This store is operated by The Common Good/Preble County and proceeds support their work of helping needy families in the community, so you know your dollars spent here are going to a good cause. Who can beat discounted thrift?!? The array of everything from homegoods, furniture, purses/bags, shoes, and my favorite their clothing! I love Valley Thrift! I've been to my fair share of thrift stores, and this wins! Now that I have moved out of state, this is the one place I look forward to coming when I visit home. When we pulled in I realized it was 2 minutes to their closing time, so I thought I'd just pop in for a quick look and come back another day. The door was still unlocked so I entered and said I realized they're about to close and I just wanted a quick look. The proprietress said, "Oh you're fine, take your time." Stars awarded immediately. This is a tightly packed shop with a little bit of everything - books, magazines, tapes, games, clothing, jewelry, wall decor, glassware, knick knacks and those things you never knew you needed. They have a member card where you get a punch each time you spend $10 and after 10 punches you get a $10 coupon. I was amazed to learn they've been in business five years and I never noticed the sign. I bought a little game for a couple of bucks. I really wanted to slowly go through all the books, since they are in no particular order and ya never know what you might find; but husband was impatiently waiting in the car so I'll be back another time. The saleswoman and I had a laugh about those situations. Don't miss this neat little store.

Not only that, but they always have items on sale either 50% off or 99 cents each. The color changes weekly so it is fun to go there to see what I can find. Also, they don't have bags so if you have extras, bring them in so they can put them to good use for other customers. AND they are always nice.
