Great finds for decent prices. Totally unassuming: this shop…read more"under-sells and over-delivers! Skip the clothing altogether but spend hours browsing over everything else. I got a 1955 (Jetson's era meets 1930s art deco) electric coffee maker in mint condition (with all the parts) for $35!!! Sure it wasn't cheap, but it was totally worth it! $22 seems to be the number of choice for most jewelry and accessories (which I found to be slightly overpriced). Great music played loud but didn't bother me one bit, in fact it added to my overall enjoyment and experience of the shop. Great selection of authentic broaches and jewelry. Limited bake-light and lucite items though the few they DO have are priced fairly. Best part is by far the antique household items. Large selection of records with Lou Reed having his own section! Dressing room is the restroom. Restroom is small, dingy, dirty but again, works with the vibe of the place so it didn't bother me. It felt kinda like a live art museum where you can pick things up in one place and then leave them in another. Everything was scattered around and mixed together so it made you really have to look and interact with the space. I had a fun time. It felt like an artist date!

Great selection of odd-ball dresses and jackets from different decades. Good amount of accessories if you're looking for small pins, rings and other jewelry. They will lower the prices on items if you just ask. Lots of floaters outside and 25-cent peep show-type places.

Had such a sad experience today, and am still shaken up…read more This is a longer review, but with respect to the other associate, I want to make sure I'm clear with where the issues originated. We rented some beautiful pieces for our show this month, and Marianne was amazing in getting everything set up and ready for us. When returning most of the items, I made the mistake of returning a shirt to the wrong location, so I had to come back the next week to complete everything. I was ready to pay an extension fee, but she was kind and allowed for that margin. We had a dress and lace-up shirt to bring back as well. My mother dropped off the dress first, and was told sternly by Nancy there would be a $40 damage fee. I wasn't sure what that was for, so when I stopped by to drop off the lace up shirt, I asked. I have a new costume team, so if mistakes were made, I want to make sure they know where they must improve. I have no problem paying the fee- prices here are very fair- but something happened after I asked what the fee was for. Nancy stormed away without speaking a minute, planted at another counter, and then proceeded to tear into me, loud enough for the room full of customers to hear, and potentially even the adjacent room. I think she somehow concluded I was trying to get out of a fee, which upset her. Despite me trying to communicate that wasn't the case, not only did she stop listening but she threw insults. A few of Nancy's choice sentences: "You are so snooty" "Your energy is killing me" "Has anyone ever told you that before? It's true" "You sound so snippy" "Everything you say is so passive aggressive" -I replied I was being genuine, she said, "I don't believe you." "I have been doing this for 40 years so if there's an issue I know it's not me." "Blip blip blip blip" (mimicking me talking and cutting me off for asking where to drop off the final shirt this week) Even if I was trying to negotiate damages, you still shouldn't use public shaming as a tactic. The customer is not always right, but I do believe that standards of mutual respect should be held in all interactions. Marianne was kind, professional, helpful, and honestly made the magic of clothing and performance come alive for me and my cast that came with me. Nancy was hostile, insulting, aggressive, and never even created space for response. I do have the interaction recorded, so all details can be corroborated. I'm not the person to post it (public shaming is not my method) but I'm happy to share the recording with the owners for reflection. I do hope moving forward that a space where artists can create that much magic together can also be a space of safety, gentleness, and mutual respect.

Vintage Marketplace whisks shoppers off on an adventure as they walk through the doors. Each area is categorized by color: blues to the right, browns and whites straight ahead, violets in the back of the store. Open doorways weave in and out of the dividing wall, allowing customers to float freely from continent to continent... er... section to section. Beautiful, plush scarves caught my eye, as well as some of the old writing table decorations. One room in the back was filled with an assortment of accessories, like jewelry, hair barrettes, and hats. Incredibly well organized, this shop is like strolling through a fashion museum. Prices were a little higher than expected, and although there were two salesladies in the store, neither of them acknowledged that I was there. That bumped Vintage Marketplace down to three stars. I'd still stop back for a browse though. The window display changes frequently (and, in my opinion, is the most elaborate in Hyde Park), so something new will likely draw me in again.

When I walked in the salesperson was behind the counter, but each room I went in to, she followed me. I ended up spending over $300.00 and I will return, but hopefully they will show respect to all their customers no matter what they look like.
