This is my favorite location in the area. The prices make up for the rest of the issues I've read so far.

I always feel good about shopping at American Thrift Store. The owner is the type to remember your name and ask how you and your family have been. I like that my money is going towards a local small business instead of a larger corporation like Goodwill. As far as value goes, American Thrift is inexpensive. The store has mainly women's clothes and a smaller section of men's clothing. I typically find myself paying $2 or $3 per piece for basic things like tshirts and sweaters. There are items that are higher priced, but in my opinion still fairly affordable. I just got a cocktail dress for a friend's wedding for $10. Clothes are organized by category and color. There aren't fitting rooms, so I recommend wearing things like a tank top and leggings so you can try on things over your clothes. read more

Store owner is a sexist person against women and speaks and treats them horribly and I will Never shop there again I came in a couple times a week spent good money there and he spazzed out on me because was closing an I said my amount didn't sound right. Since I knew they was ready to get out of there and go home I asked if he would keep ideas behind counter until morning and I be back when we both and more time and I could think straight. He cussed me out chased me out of store told me don't come back go shop at goodwill scared my 12 year old daughter to death kept running his mouth following us to the parking lot and creeped us out badly we had to run to the car and take off as fast as we could he just would not stop and we did nothing wrong or said anything to him. He needs help and to learn better customer service skills. I left crying bawling my eyes out for hours ,I have never been treated so horribly bad. He made me feel sos stupid, mortified & so embarrassed. He just kept screaming cussing me out, clapping his hands as loud as he could making the biggest scene he could in front of everyone in the parking lot and that's a huge parking lot and the whole time we didn't say a Word to him, argue or even look back at him and we did absolutely nothing wrong. I had people asking me if I was ok and what was going on and did I need the police called, but I still said no and just left I pray for him and that he gets the help he needs . I'll never be back and he lost a long time true loyal customer for nothing. I hope he is sast and feels good about him self for the way he made us feel, acted and the things he said and it was all worth it. read more

This store is amazing. I've been thrifting for years, usually at Goodwills, and happened upon this place by chance and am so glad I did. Incredible selection and low prices--much cheaper than Goodwill. Sam Edelman, Banana Republic, Halogen, Prana, and White House Black Markey are just a few of the brands I picked up here. If you thrift, this is well worth your time. A true hidden gem. read more

this WAS a great thrift store. they had 50% mondays for seniors. went by yestarday (monday) BIG sign on door, no more senior discount seniors get the shaft again. what made it worse, as i was pulling in i see this semi trailor next to the building FULL and i mean FULL of merchandise for the store, so its not like we were buying everything in sight. just more money hungry store owners. never have enough$$$ i dont doubt the staff doesnt get paid well either. very sad. read more

Went today. I have shipped there two years. Spent a lot of money. Today the clerk actually took some of my items off the counter and was saying I only brought three to the counter. A lie. On Monday it is half off for 55 and over. I can only assume it had to do with that. read more

I have shopped there for about 5 years and been quite satisfied. However, I have been twice during the pandemic and both times left before buying anything because there seems to be a "mask optional" practice. Among those wearing a mask, about half of them were not covering their noses. One mask-less customer was coughing loudly and forcefully. ZERO stars is more like it. Just left American Thrift store on Springboro Pike in Dayton Ohio 6/22/2021 @ 4PM. I WILL NEVER SHOP THERE AGAIN!!! My first time there. I asked an employee if certain color tags were discounted she answered the questioned in a not so friendly manner, however I get it maybe today wasn't her day. I made my purchase and started to walk out the store she walks in front of me carrying a black trash bag as she was leaving the store. She stops and continues to look behind her talking to another employee in her language not even considerate that I am attempting to leave. She stopped in the way of the door and then opens it. I can barely get past her and my knee bumped her bag and from there she started an argument. I apologized said it was not on purpose but she went in bitch mode as she's stepping in to a blue car of which a male was picking her up. The entire incident was brief but I can believe I had to deal with that to begin with. The customer is NOT always right, however in this case this was my first experience and dealt with that! Her bitchiness was uncalled for. I'm not one to typically, more like next to never say someone is racist. I'm not sure what clientele she used to be don't label me as stereotypical black female and I'll not label her as a stereotypical foreigner. In this case the assumptions I've of her type is accurate. The only person that was nice that I interacted with was the cashier otherwise there'd be nothing of a positive experience shopping there. Check the cameras on 6/22/2021 around 4PM! The receipt below shows 4:12PM however I was in my car and drove up the road and parked to type this at that time. Their P.O.S time is off. read more

Great small shop with very low prices. Nice family owned place. Mostly women's clothes, with a few racks of men's and children's clothing. There is a very small amount of other items like electronics housewares, books. Huge scarf selection, and more traditional indian clothing than i have seen anywhere else. read more

This is my all time favorite thrift store! I've been shopping here for almost 4 years. I remember when I first moved to the Dayton area and saw this store, I was hesitant to shop there for the first time. From the outside, it doesn't look like much. I finally decided to stop in and was blown away! I always loved going to the Valley Thrift, but half of their stuff is overpriced. At the American Thrift, EVERYTHING is always extremely cheap. Each day they have 2-3 different colored tags that are 50% off or 50 cents. Every Monday is senior citizen 50% off of everything day. Every holiday and the last Friday of each month it's 50% off the whole store for everyone. They always have great name brand items. They have a great kids and baby clothes selection too. Dressing rooms and public restrooms are available. The owner has always been nice to me and has always remembered me. The store is usually quiet and not too busy or hectic like the Valley Thrift tends to get. Even on sale days, it's not overwhelmingly busy. read more

Stopped into the American thrift store today picked up a few things and was at check out where the owner of the business is having a loud discussion with two of his employees berating them in front of customers a couple customers just left their stuff and walked out I went ahead and decided to get mine he walked away the two employees were just looking down at the ground embarrassed as they should be so I just looked At them and said dies I've heard this gentleman Yellit customers from across the store to stop messing with whatever or turn down that radio. So his customer service skills could be improved upon as well tell them to have a good day and good luck. Left the store went to my car as I was backing out the owner of the store starts yelling at me to keep my opinions to myself that he will talk to anybody the way he wants to talk to them and I just acted like I wasn't listening to him and drove away and he was still yelling as I drove off. Because this gentleman is so very unprofessional and yells at his employees in front of customers and feels there is nothing wrong with yelling at paying customers as well I won't be going back. There's better thrift stores out there it's just sad that at one time that place used to be a decent place but the owner just doesn't get how to treat people. read more

I liked this place at one point but the more I experienced the more I decided I didn't want to go back. The staff is a little creepy and the one woman I've seen there was nasty to me when I brought in clothes for donation. I had 2 medium size bags of stuff and they give you a $5 voucher for 1 large bag. I didn't have 1 large bag for cryin out loud but 2 med held more than 1 lg. But I couldn't get a voucher so I donated my stuff elsewhere. (it was nice stuff but I make myself get rid of stuff I haven't worn in over a year) I understand people have bad days but I don't think its acceptable to be nasty to customers no matter how your personal life is. If its that bad have someone come to work for you. The selection on Women's sizes is limited and Men's is even worse. Very small store but you'll have better luck at Valley Thrift Store. read more
