Dogwood at The Pine Shed - Indoor seating and south side entrance

Dogwood at The Pine Shed

First of all- I just moved here and I keep hearing this is "the bad part of town" and no, it's not…read more We passed one unhoused person who was just minding his own business. Don't be afraid to come here! Lots of food truck options which is cool. My friend and I each got zero proof cocktails. She got the sweet hemptation and liked it so much she got a second one. I got the funky cold Modena which was tart and tasty. And we got to see Miz Cracker from RuPaul's Drag Race!! So fun! The drag show was high energy and a great time.

I'll preface by stating that this establishment is a bar with a food truck lot. It is not the…read moreDogwood downtown cocktail bar that is the subject of the prior hundreds of reviews. The owners closed up shop downtown and created this new place on 2nd Street in Bend's Central District. It's now called Dogwood at the Pine Shed. Why Yelp won't create a new, distinct page for the Pine Shed is beyond me. That said, the Pine Shed is a fine place for drinks and food truck fare. The open, spacious 'shed' has plenty of varied seating surrounding a nice bar with quite a few tables outside on the patio. Mobility-challenged folks have choices too. For those worried about 2nd Street's reputation for sketchiness, don't be. Revitalization efforts by the city have transformed the area. At times of good weather, with the big doors open, the Pine Shed is quite a nice spot to relax. Cocktails were the raison d'etre for the former incarnation of Dogwood and that emphasis transfers here to the Pine Shed. I particularly like their versions of a margarita but the other cocktails are uniformly good too. The beer tap offerings are not so spectacular, however, with only four (and a cider). On one visit shortly after they opened for business, two beer taps were tapped out, which can be chalked up to growing pains. In any case, the Pine Shed can't be seriously regarded as a tap house in the style of the many others in Bend (On Tap, River's Place, Crosscut, The Lot, The Podski, Midtown Yacht Club, etc.). Come for the cocktails. They do offer low ABV and zero ABV drinks. At present, the food truck choices are abundant and pretty decent. Being trucks/carts, and thus mobile and prone to relocating themselves, I'll not list them here. Best to check the Pine Shed's webpage for current offerings and then go to the relevant Yelp page for reviews. Parking is street only, no parking lot. The city has completed construction on 2nd Street so there are more spots available than before.

Dinky Dau - Lemongrass pork banh mi

I went to grab my sweat from the car and the food was already done. The food itself was great! I have been chasing a good banh mi and this is the only place in Bend so far that hits the spot. I normally dont even do pork but the pork banh mi is dank. I love the quality of the meat. The lemon grass adds an awesome flavor to the sandwich as a whole. The bread was also good quality. I had to travel a little ways after running one last errand so it looks a little worse for wear, but held up super well imho. The food cart pod also has a good ambiance, it is open with seating and little fires, plus an indoor seating area.

The veggies on it were fresh, crispy and flavorful and the bread was also quite nice, although maybe a little more buttery than what I expect with bahn mi. I also thought the price was a bit steep, $15, for just the sandwich. The girl working there was really nice and I appreciated her suggestions. I love the location of this food truck too. They have lots of seating, both indoor and outdoor, a bougie bar with craft cocktails and NA options, nice music and chill vibes!

For my Yelp fiends who were Marz fans and mourned the loss of Marz restaurant from downtown Bend…read morewhen the restaurant was sold and then closed, you'll be happy to find the Marz team has reemerged with a food cart. They're newly opened and offering a variety of good things to eat. But most important, they have the hoisin ribs and the green and red Thai curries that were, for some of us at least, the raison d'eat at Marz. For folks who are fans of the "world cuisine" style of food at the six star worthy Spork food trailer in Bend, you'll probaby enjoy Marz too as food style is similar. (In fact, Spork chef Jeff Hunt was once the head kitchen honcho at Marz the restaurant.) People who like to eat great food at good prices and who don't mind standing in line at a mobile food kitchen will be the the better off for Marz entry into the growing food cart scene in Bend. We enjoyed grilled artichokes, delicious vegetaarian green noodle curry and good red rockfish fritters for lunch. Their plan is to be open 11a to 3p seven days a week in the lot at Skerjaas Sports..but you know how food carts move around in Bend. And owners say they also plan a second location open some days of the week in Mirror Pond Plaza in downtown Bend. I see opportunity here to organize a "progressive lunch" of food carts in Bend!

Zorba The Greek - Yaya's lamb gyro plate

Almost impossible. We found one place was closed, two food trucks hadn't opened that day, and another closed at 8:00. Then my luck changed when we found Zorba the Greek! They stay open late to match the hours of The Dogwood at the Pine Shed, where they are parked. I was thrilled to find that they had gyros with lamb on a spit! Not the lamb/beef mix that you can buy from Chicago that most gyros places all have. I decided to go for a plate so I could get the full experience. It came with salad, potatoes, a gyro, and choice of tzatziki. Second bit of luck was they had vegan tzatziki (which I prefer since dairy and I don't get along well). The salad was already mixed up with the feta, so I had a wee bit of dairy with my meal. They text you when your food is ready so you can go inside, warm up with a craft cocktail, and find a table (craft in that they lit an orange peel on fire for my drink!). The food was quick and came in a to-go box so I could take leftovers with me. The lamb was so good! Seared but still juicy and smothered in tzatziki with pickled onions and tomatoes. What a great find!

Solid Greek fare served up at a reasonable price with a 'Bend friendly' attitude.
