    Fish Taco
    Carolyn L.

This place is fantastic! The fish tacos are delicious and portions are large. The fries are excellent and I love the dark meat gluten-free fried chicken. And waffles! They have a ton of sauces to choose from - spicy Thai is my favorite. The employees are always kind and attentive. I love the ambiance at The Lot. The summer is festive and it's cozy in the winter with heated benches and fire pits. Highly recommend!

    Fish and chips

Loved the fish and chips! The fries were different, thin flat crispy pieces. Service was friendly. There were several outside tables or you can take your food inside a covered common area where you can order your drinks. There were other food trucks around which is nice for other people in your group to pick from.

    Chicken strips

Haven't tried the fish, but the chicken strips looked good... they were hot but really tough and maybe overcooked? Also very greasy.... Expensive $11 disappointment

The fish tacos were okay, but the portions are super small for the cost! And the fish to vegetable ratio just wasn't it.

I tried eating here twice for some reason. The food each time was over seasoned, over cooked, and dry. Cool bus though!

Between the exceptionally good food at Hook and Plow, a most pleasant hotel experience, and a memorable trip to the High Desert Museum; our trip to Bend turned out to be a pleasure instead of the miserableness I expected. We had the Steak Tartare, the Chef's Board, the Blackend Crabcake, the Pear and Burrata Salad, and the Bone-in Pork Chop. We each got the cheesecake for desert and split the other dishes. This was more than enough for the three of us and we left full, happy, and with three large to-go boxes. The flavors of the various dishes were amazing. While all the dishes were vvery good, the standouts to me were the steak Tartare, the Pear and Burrata Salad, and the Cheesecake.

We were greeted by the host and seated quickly. We started our meal with a delicious non-alcoholic drink and the Chef's Board: a charcuterie with an assortment of cured meats, rustic bread, and various spreads. That came out pretty quickly. Unfortunately, our main courses came out much, much later and lukewarm. Luckily, the food was good enough that it made up for the temperature. I had the NY strip steak. The steak and the Boursin mashed potatoes alone were very good. The pickled onions and chimichurri complemented the meat very well. The meal was supposed to include brussel sprouts but came with a grilled broccoli cauliflower assortment instead. My wife had the Scallop Risotto which was also a great recommendation from the server. In reality, The Hook & Plow deserved 3 1/2 stars but that's not an option on Yelp. It may have been an off night for the staff, so I will give them the benefit of doubt. We would be open to trying it again sometime in the future.

Important: In case you didn't notice, this place does not take cards!!…read more This place is a double-decker english bus. Walking up to it, the menu is painted on the outside of the vehicle and they greet you and take your order through a sliding glass window. The location is a little funky; being behind a bar, on [what must be] the only dirt road in downtown Bend. But they have turned the top story of the bus into a seating area, so at least we didn't have to try to eat in the car. The seating area was a little funky, being that it was on an old bus, but there is a bar facing outward that lets you look out, and they have napkins, malt vinegar, s&p, and ketchup. (And apparently a flat screen t.v. - no idea if it worked.) There were quite a few options for a food cart. It seemed as though they change things pretty often, because, although I didn't scour the menu, I didn't see the wontons mentioned in another review. What I did see were two kinds of tacos with "new" written next to them. One was an avocado taco and the other was a pineapple taco. I inquired about the avocado one and apparently it was deep-fried avocado slices in a taco shell of some sort. Being as we went there for fish and chips, I definitely ordered those, and then decided to swing for the tacos as well. I really didn't have any problem with the portion size. McMenamins has fish and chips for $18, Deschutes Brewery has them for $16.50. Here they were $8, and they were worth every cent. They weren't quite as crispy as some I have had in the past, but they were still delicious. The "chips" were not very good; some kind of steak fries and half of them had the mealy taste of not being cooked enough, but I honestly thought the fish made up for it. It was exactly what I was craving, and my husband and I both ate for an even $20. Last- the tacos. These were so simple, yet so amazing. It was a soft corn shell that had obviously been lightly fried. In it was a couple slices of the fried avocado, layered with very mild pico and a small amount of sliced cabbage. I ate most of one and it was the perfect appetizer to my fish and chips. Only thing I could say about it was that I don't think frying the avocado is really necessary, but everyone loves fried food, so maybe it's just a way to pique people's interest.

This Company will also go and set up at local festivals and public venues. the style is definitely neat bc you can sit on the tables out side of course near the food cart, or you can eat on the second level of the bus. Bad news. Good news…read more Bad news first is this: The Drake has been sold to new owners and TONIGHT, APRIL 12, WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF SERVICE at The Drake with the original owner and the current menu. So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.
