I did a takeout/door dash order, because I was unable to leave to pickup food today. While I would give 5 stars for freshness & flavor, the salad was truly lacking as a "whole" salad. I ordered a FULL Mediterranean salad ($15) and added chicken due to the fact I have lupus, and eat lean protein with most of my meals. I don't ever mind paying extra when I add on either. By the time I tipped, payed door dash and for my $15 salad, it was well over $20 for my order. It's not an inexpensive meal, but was excited to try! There was barely anything on my salad, and truthfully, I can't believe the size was an actual full salad. It fit in a small soup bowl. Again, everything tasted great, but there as only a few strips of chicken, 1 1/2 olives.. no joke. Not even artichoke heart pieces to make up one heart. I had 2 cut up pieces and a very small leaf. I'm still hungry, and the only reason I ordered door dash was because I'm meal prepping & didn't have time to cook for lunch today. For the amount of money to what you receive, I won't be ordering again. I'll post the salad from today, and another Mediterranean salad from another locally owned family restaurant. That salad, for $15 at Taverna, comes fresh, with grilled, whole chicken breasts, whole pieces of freshly grilled vegetables, tzatziki, hummus and many fixings (it's a complete salad). Everything is locally made. I can easily split it between 2 days. I'm only posting this, to show the comparison because it's the same price, both locally owned. Maybe I caught Coal Bunker on a hard afternoon, but I thought I'd share my experience. I love supporting local, so hopefully this will be received well! read more

Service was slow, the food was not tasty and yet still expensive. The restaurant seems like it would be best for drinks only.

We were looking on yelp for ideas for dinner and this popped up and the food looked amazing so we decided to give it a try. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint!! The food was beyond delicious!! Tried this restaurant for the first time the other night. Atmosphere and service was great. As someone who is vegetarian and gluten-free, there were not a lot of options on the menu. What I did eat (salad and pesto zucchini salad) were tasty. My husband ordered a burger, but the price was pretty steep for a la carte entrees that didn't even come with the option for fries :( read more

The Bunker Burger is one of the best hamburgers that I have ever eaten in my long history of devouring burgers. The burger alone earns five stars. Wish it had fries or chips as a side, but their healthy options (I had squash) are nice alternatives. Also wish it had fountain drinks instead of canned drinks. Josh is the best server!! It was late and the restaurant was pretty dead so my first mind was to go somewhere else because it must not be good. MAN AM I SO GLAD I STAYED. My husband and I went to The Coal Bunker in Fallbrook today, 7/1/23, after seeing the restaurant on an email from Yelp listing ten favorite North County burger restaurants. We arrived at about 1 p.m. and walked up the steps to the bar/restaurant. A waitress was at a computer nearby and barely lifted her head to say "give me a minute and I'll be with you". We could only see 2 tables with guests seated in the room. After a several minutes of watching her inputting what I think was someone's order, and no further acknowledgement of us, we left. About a block away we found Harry's Sports Bar and Grill. They were welcoming and served a great burger and beer! So disappointed in The Coal Bunker. Unfortunately one person can ruin a person's opinion of a restaurant. read more

Fantastic! What a cool place. The staff were friendly and helpful. The menu has enough options to allow choices, yet is small enough to not overwhelm. They serve craft beer & wine. We tried the wedge salad, hello, Yum! Their version is so good. Next, a chuck burger w/Carmel used onions on a brioche was cooked beautifully. So juicy & flavorful, heavenly. We weren't impressed with our take out meals, but plan on returning to try the food in person. We had the bunker burger & chips, TCB Mac n Cheese, Bagel dogs, Shepherds pie and for desert we had the brownie. I will start with the Shepherds pie as it was a disappointment. It was bland and lacked flavor. The other food was simply room temperature but had flavor but not memorable (we live five min away) hence why eating on location is recommended and why I'm willing to give this place one more try. read more

First time coming here and everything was phenomenal. The service was fantastic and the food even better. The staff were all so friendly it made for a great experience. The place gives off a really next vibe. All the food is made in house and you can tell it's fresh. The Chef goes out of her way to make sure you get an amazing dish every time. They have multiple vegetarian and vegan options so that was very nice to see. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area and I will be coming back to try more things on the menu. 10/10 worth trying this place out. read more

Fallbrook is moving on up with it's food game! The Coal Bunker is one of four restaurants that have opened up within the year. I was really really excited when I noticed renovations being done on the old Mexican restaurant building. I've been waiting for their debut! Coal Bunker is one of the many new restaurants that opened up their doors during the Corona virus. They've already got a good social media standing and based off of their Yelp reviews are doing great! I highly recommend you follow them on Instagram. They just recently posted a delicious video of them making garlic and herb fused butter! I've been keeping a close eye on their menu since it's ever changing with new goodies. So when I saw that they had something for both myself (a vegetarian) and Nick to chow down on I jumped at the opportunity. Driving home with the food was very difficult because it smelled absolutely incredible. I had their Texas toast grilled cheese and their side of mac and cheese. Their mac is absolutely amazing!! I think they use a smoked cheese and it really hits well. The Texas toast grilled cheese was cheesy deliciousness! We will be back and we're excited to experience the whole restaurant when the virus has calmed down. read more

The chicken sandwich they have is the best thing ever!! And the Mac n cheese is sooo good too. The grilled cheese is also a great option especially if your bringing kiddos since they don't have a kids menu. Whenever I get my food I could never finish it all which is a plus because then I have left overs! All in all I would definitely recommend this place. read more
