One thing I like about the citadel is the options that you have when it comes to the food. My go to is Borti for their nice pasta, but this time I wanted to try the new Pho place called Pho Sho. Honestly I was a little disappointed. The pho was interesting. They put the veggies all on top of the soup rather than having it separate. It didn't even taste like anything. I also had to pay extra to make it spicy. In addition, the cashier didn't give me the receipt, but when i checked my bank account charge it seems like they added a higher tip to my bill. Everything I ordered couldn't have cost me almost 40 dollars. I only got the pho and the Pepsi. Definitely would not recommend the pho spot. I've been to the Citadel before but got to visit it again recently. It seemed to be the same but with some updates. This lil food hall is seemingly in the middle of nowhere but luckily this was a close spot to when we were visiting a friend so we stopped by for a bite to eat. I love food halls with bigger groups because there's something for everyone. After perusing around, everyone in our group got something different. Some noteworthy spots were USBS (burgers), Ash Pizza Parlor, and Manjay (Caribbean cuisine). I got Ash Pizza Parlor because their square pizzas caught my eye. The Senor Truffle has white sauce, homemade mozzarella, mushrooms, procuitto, parmigiano, and truffle honey and I added hot honey on the side ($2 extra). The pizza wasn't overwhelming with truffle, which is a plus in my book, and was a good portion size. I will say, everything here is pretty pricey but I expect nothing less for Miami prices and inflation. I think the dishes that were most worth it were the pizza, pasta, and burgers. The inside is nice and spacious with different seating arrangements for groups of all sizes. There's also water stations, napkins, and utensils in different areas so you can grab these if you ever need more. I know the bar also has weekly specials during the week so if you happen to be in the area, this seems like an ideal spot to grab a bite and drinks with friends. read more

This is a warning if you make reservations here. We reserved a table for 6 on the rooftop on a Sunday afternoon and when I get there, the roof was empty with lots of available tables. The server tells us he won't serve us our food until everyone gets there (which we didn't know in advance) BUT ALSO, we had to order from him and not order online or go downstairs to order from the different kiosks. He did take our drink orders but not food. So after waiting around 40 minutes until everyone got there (hello, we're in Miami, everyone is late!), we finally ordered food. Now I know why he insisted we order with him... tables of 6 get an automatic 20% tip added to the bill plus some ridiculous extra processing fee. He also wouldn't give us individual checks, so it got complicated because we all ordered different things. One girl at the table just got 2 glasses of wine and ended up paying $9 extra for tax and tip...meanwhile around the corner from us there was a bar on the rooftop we didn't even know about. Plus the service overall was just subpar. Instead of reserving a table, we should have just gotten two of the dozens of empty tables on the roof, gone downstairs to order our food, and gotten drinks at the rooftop bar, and the experience would have been a 4 or 5. The Citadel is a great place to have a quiet lunch on weekdays. Yes, quiet, but only during lunch on weekdays. I've been here a few times later at night and on weekends and it gets crowded. I have to say that there are a few great places at this giant food court, but the real standout for me is Stanzione, the pizza place. They're making true Neapolitan pizza. It's chewy, but not tough, the tomatoes are San Marzano, the pizzaiollo (more of a Master Pizzaiollo) is doing everything right from slapping the dough to the occasional lift inside the oven to make sure the toppings all get enough cooking time--btw it's done in under 90 seconds from when he puts it in. I fell for the hype and pulled up to the Citadel to manje at "Manjay." My 1st impression walking in was that this entire spot is a vibe. They had a dj playing on the night I visited. It wasn't too loud, and it was a nice size crowd flowing throughout the building. However, it was a little too dark for my liking. I could barely see the food on my plate because of the lightning. I didn't really like the fact that I couldn't see what was going on around me. When I walked up to the register, an older guy took our order. To be honest, my biggest and only complaint about my visit is customer service. I don't  care what country you're from; learn to be polite to your patrons. Moun Ayisyen, we need to do better. Epi dats et.... I ordered the jerk chicken, and it was well seasoned. My chicken was a little cold, but maybe it's because they got my plantain order wrong, and I had to wait for them to fry my plantain straws. I didn't bring it to their attention because their attitude was already nasty. I wanted to limit my interaction with them.  My friend got the griot, and it was ok. I've had better from the local Haitian restaurant in the city. It was a little tough and lacked epis (seasoning). I'm not going to lie; the rice and beans were delicious. We also did an order of Conch fritters, and they didn't miss a beat with that.  It's was cooked to perfection. So full of great flavors. The creamy dipping sauce they gave us for was spicy but in a good way.  I would purchase that sauce; that's how good it was.  Chef kiss. Great job with these deliciously bold flavors. We came here with our family of 22 for dinner because who can make a decision with a group that size. This way everyone was able to get what they wanted! All our food was delicious and we loved the variety of choices. We attempted to first sit on the rooftop but the music level was just too loud for our elderly parents. It was a beautiful spot though. My only complaint was Ms. PacMan (in the hallway between all the food vendors and a very eclectic music and retro store) ate my 75 cents and didn't work, and apparently the store that has/owns the game knows it doesn't work but also doesn't do anything about it. read more

This used to be a great place to hang out for a couple of hours on the weekend, getting a cup of coffee from Vice and lunch from one of the other vendors while sitting with the laptop and catching up on the week's emails and such... While exploring what was around my airbnb ahead of my trip to Miami, I saw that this place wasn't far away. I didn't realize it was a mere 5 minutes -- so that was a pleasant surprise once my friend and I decided to go there! In summary, the decor, the food variety, and the fact that they are actually popping at night really make this place stand out for me! When you step inside, there's a lot to take in. There are some arcade machines, there's a vintage retro store, and then there's a delightful variety of food. Off the top of my head, I remember seeing sushi, Caribbean food, Italian food (pasta), sandwiches, pizza, and a very fancily decorated bar! All the while, there is plenty of seating, and a DJ was crankin' it out while we were there! My buddy and I took a shot at the bar while waiting for some food -- he ordered pesto gnocchi from the pasta spot. I did manage to grab a taste later... and if all of the restaurants taste that good, The Citadel is definitely winning. When I visit Miami again, I need to check out the rooftop too. The question currently on my mind is - why did I take so long to come here? I had heard of The Citadel before but didn't really know where it was until recently when I was looking for a spot for myself and my friend to have lunch in between her (Hollywood) and me (Brickell). Searching Google maps, The Citadel seemed to fit the bill. Parking here is easy. There's a parking lot behind The Citadel which was $4.50 an hour on a Saturday afternoon. My friend found parking in the front for $2.50 an hour (I think it's street parking). There are two entrances - one in the front, one in the back. We walked around, gawking at all of the amazing food choices. I got crispy chicken bao buns and my friend got beef pho from Pho Sho, and I got seasoned fries (don't remember what they were called but according to a menu I found on Google from 2 yrs ago, they're called Cuban Tariff fries) from USBS aka United States Burger Service. The stalls each ask for your phone number and text you when your food's ready. Seating was easy to find. We settled into some cork barstools and waited for our food. We got our texts shortly thereafter. My bao buns were piping hot and delicious, but I found a hair in one of them. They came with crunchy cucumber and carrot slices, jalapeño, and honey Sriracha on top. They were happy to accommodate my request for no cilantro. My friend really liked her pho but found the meatballs in it too compressed (I didn't try them so I can't say). My fries were SO good, and I love the aioli they came with. The pickup system for USBS was so unique. I approached the cashier and she said to open the Tina mailbox (which confused me at first). They put the orders in little mailboxes - so cool and on-brand! After eating lunch, I went to Doña Posada and got a pumpkin spice Carrot muffin, a dulce de Leche brownie, and brioche cinnamon roll. The muffin was good but not moist enough for my liking. The brownie was great. I haven't tried the cinnamon roll yet. We also went to Vice City Coffee. Sadly, they didn't have the nitro coffee so I got a cold brew. It was good, but I wish the barista would have asked if I wanted any milk or syrup because I completely forgot to ask. My friend liked her latte. We browsed the plant store which is next to the dining area. They had some really cute stuff, but sadly the flowers I wanted didn't have the price marked (and there's no cashier to ask). After eating, we browsed the other shops. There was a room with art in it (I didn't see a place to pay so I have to assume it's part of the thrift shop nextdoor?) And a thrift shop which seemed to be mostly thrift goods but also some candy and new jewelry. The thrift shop was so interesting to browse. I was going to purchase some candy, but didn't want to deal with the shop owner or employee (not sure which he was). He sounded like a chain smoker and I didn't want to have to talk to him, but then he was on the phone and eating sushi so I wasn't going to bother. Right outside of the thrift shop are a few arcade games like Pac Man. Overall, coming here was a fun, interesting, and delicious way to spend a few hours of my Saturday. Finally was able to come and check this place out and it was a nice vibe! We tried the pasta place and the vodka pasta was really good. We also got sushi which was pretty decent and for dessert I got the cookies and cream ice cream which was really good! One of the main reasons I wanted to come to this place was because of the rooftop but unfortunately they didn't open until 6 and when I wanted to bring my food up we weren't allowed to do so. Apparently, you would have to go to the rooftop and place your food order there. I wish I would have known that prior to ordering my food so just be aware if you plan to be sitting at the rooftop. Then again, I went on a Sunday afternoon. Finally, we went to the bar Kaiju (means strange beast in Japanese) on the M floor which is the second floor and that was a super cool experience Red lights, monster wall art, and a wrap around seating of comfy couches and chairs. Upon sitting at the bar, we got a welcome fruity shot. It's was sweet, The specialty drinks are $17 each but their artistry, dedication, creativity, story and lore and the flavor of at least the one that I got, which was the Loch Ness monster one a.k.a. I've been here several times and really enjoy dining here. You can order from individual vendors and sit downstairs inside or go to the rooftop and order from your servers from any of the vendors and it will be delivered to you on the roof. The service at my most recent visit at the rooftop was really good, but when I've been with larger parties it's a little more difficult and they are extremely strict about splitting a check (only one card). If that doesn't work for you, everyone can order and eat downstairs I guess but the rooftop is a vibe. Some of my favorite dishes here are the jerk chicken bites from Manjay, the crab roll from Poke San, and the bucatini from the pasta spot. The citadel is a cool food hall which is a concept that's popping up all over the country. There are various cuisines under one roof and it's cool to select from different restaurants during a single visit. Downstairs is an open seating area with all of the kitchens in the parameter of the large space. There are high tops, regular tables, and benches where you and your party can sit and enjoy the food and ambiance. Also downstairs is a vintage shop, art gallery, and a couple more local shops which I wish were open late Saturday night. There were a couple of jewelry & clothing pieces I would've purchased. Saturday night, there was a DJ and the place was pretty chill. You can order at any of the kitchens and enjoy and eclectic array of food. Upstairs is a different vibe where you are open rooftop overlooking the Miami skyline in the distance. You have a waiter and the bar is just steps away. I like the decor upstairs as it's bohemian chic. Saturday night, there was a cool breeze, chill crowd, and great music (reggae, reggaeton, classic rap, top 40 country, and even Afrobeats). As for the food, we had the conch fritters, jerk bites, fried plantain fries, duck Bao, and gnocchi Ala Bolognese. My favorites were the Conch fritters and Gnocci. The Leechy drink was awesome.
