I love The Chocolate! What a wonderful concept to find nestled in an antique Orem mansion. The perfect place to have a night away with my husband or catching up with girlfriends. The desserts are not expensive and the atmosphere is so cozy and inviting. I do have to disagree with a previous review when it comes to being a kid-friendly place. I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old son that we love bringing to The Chocolate for a quick treat. There is an upstairs with a couple rooms that are quite secluded. We went to The Chocolate on a recommendation from friends of ours. My thoughts: Cake - amazing! I got the Cherub(?) and was almost transported to another world. It helped that when I ordered whole milk(if you're gonna blow it, do it right I say!) they served it in a frosted glass so it was REALLY cold and delicious with that milk chocolate cake yumminess. Ok, stop drooling Rod. The location: A turn-of-the -century brick house on Orem State Street (some say it's haunted - cool!) that they have completely re-done with different paint schemes and decorations in each room. I guess if you're uptight, having to look for a spot (we went upstairs to the big room) might get you in a tizzy, but I think it adds to the charm and overall atmosphere there. Not gonna lie, it took a while to find a spot, but it WAS a Friday night and the line was out the door, so what do you expect? My wife got a lemon bar and a fruit tart thingy and said they were very good. We went back this past weekend and shared the Kazookie(?) - AMAZING! You pick 2 cookie doughs and they put them side-by-side in what looks like a 6" round wedding cake pan. They bake it, then throw a big fat scoop of vanilla ice cream on it and serve it to you. The first bite, I think I heard angels signing. Serious. It may have been their rendition of "Celebrate" by Kool and the Gang, I can't be sure, but I do know that sparks almost flew from my spoon as I was scraping the bottom of the pan! Go. Unimpressed. Came here having heard great things, but left disappointed. My friends and I could whip up desserts just as tasty at home, and their service was surprisingly poor. The only thing going for this place was the relaxed atmosphere, but that won't be enough to get me back again. I recommend finding your sugar high elsewhere. read more

I came here a while ago and really liked it so came back recently. I got a slice of one of their popular cakes and halfway through eating it, I pulled out the longest blonde hair that came out of the icing. None of us have blonde hair, and it was so disturbing Bc it obviously happened when someone iced the cake. When you have a food business you HAVE to take utmost care that things like this don't happen. We obviously will not be back! read more

This is definitely my favorite dessert place in Orem so far. I've tried a variety of items and they are all good, but for me the Cherub cake is amazing!!! It is so moist and flavorful. We came on a Friday night and the wait was pretty long. There wasnt many places to sit as there were dirty plates sverywhere. We got the Kitty Karina and it was not bad. The cake was a little dry but the frosting was decent. Got the glass of milk that was 2 bucks. Overall it was a decent experience but don't know that I would crave it. read more

Normally delicious...this time disappointing. The Chocolate is a trendy dessertery that serves a variety of baked goods and a few other treats. This place charges a premium in exchange for leaving your mouth feeling fulfilled and satisfied. I typically like grabbing a dessert here for a special night with one of my ladies (my wife or daughters), and such was the case tonight. My wife and I had a nice dinner and stopped to cap it off with a slice or two of their cake. There cake is so so decadent and typically the slices are huge...I mean 3-4 sittings big. Today however, the girl behind the counter was pretty stingy with the cake knife cutting our sliced thin enough to make pancakes jealous. The cake just didn't seem right either. The usually towering slice of cake was a little uninspiring seeming like it perhaps didn't rise all the way and tasting a hair on the bland side. The last time I came to the Chocolate I was kind of underwhelmed also...still good but not great, which was totally unexpected. If I hadn't been here before I probably would look elsewhere to eat a treat. Hopefully the lackluster experience is an anomaly cuz this place use to be rad. read more

If you're looking for a bakery where you order something from behind the glass and they hand it to you right away, this is not the place for you. We ordered a brownie (pre-made), a cupcake (pre-made) and were given a number. After waiting for 20 minutes, they brought the cupcake and brownie out exactly how they were on display, but on a plate. I don't think it was worth it. I mean, it's a cute location, and the dessert was so-so, but next time, instead of spending 6 dollars on two single servings, I think I'll make an entire pan of brownies and get a half gallon of ice cream that I can eat out of the carton on my couch at home. read more

Service is so horrible. BUT the cazookie is amazing. The BEST! Just be careful when you order a cazookie....do not order it a half hour before closing or when it is a week night or else the girls give you guff because it takes too much time to make it. Just a guess. Once you make it past the snootiness and scowls from the girls, the cazookie makes it all worth it. We made a take out order and the girl who answered the phone was sooo irritated that I ordered my favorite treat due to the busyness of the night she tried talking me out of doing the order by saying, "You do realize it will take a half hour but I guess I will throw it in." Throw it in?! Girl you need to be sweet as The Chocolate is. Seriously people getting popular and busy should make you happy not bitter. A slight addiction of mine. Very good cake. The Husband is almost too good, and easy to eat. Not chocolate overload. Their frosting is just amazing. A lot of cupcake/dessert places in utah make their frosting too strong and sugary, and after two bites you slip into a diabetic coma. I wish they did the raspberry iced cake full time rather than the weekend. They sell out too fast, and ordering a whole cake, means you have to eat a full cake! I would say out of the over 10 times eating their, and trying a taste of all they have, they are the most consistently pleasing. read more

It wasn't too crowded when I went but they did give me the wrong cookie. I didn't want to bother to correct them but they realized the mistake a few minutes later and brought me the right cookie. Both were okay but the price was pretty high when I can make the same thing at home. If I go again I will definitely try cake instead. read more

It's texture was more like a box cake than from scratch. Good thing for the college 'hip crowd', who just need a place to sit and socialize or this place wouldn't stay in business... Won't be back. I come here often with my wife! We have been coming here since we were in high school and it has always been the perfect date environment. The Cazookie is incredible, and my wife even bought me one of their cakes for my birthday this year. If you need a good date with someone, I would strongly recommend the chocolate. me and my friend came in and waited an HOUR for a kazookie where there was about 5 other people in the place- so not busy. 50 minutes into waiting they came up to us and asked what we ordered. they then brought the food out in a to-go box when we ordered in and it wasn't even close to closing time. they didn't apologize for the wait and basically were rushing us out. the whole experience was unprofessional and rude. read more

I just visited sprinkles cupcakes in Beverly Hills, have tried well know Kara's cupcakes in San Fan- and let me say they are nowhere as good as the cupcakes at The Chocolate! The vanilla and lemon cupcakes are sinfully good. Wish they wouldn't put colored sugar on the frosting on lemon- takes way from awesome taste of frosting. These are amazing! Also- their sugar cookies are yummy. read more
