The Chicken Burger, what can you say other than Good! This is a must for a one time for sure. It is always packed. There is the line for the people who want to order and sit in the car to eat. Then the other line is for the ones like us, who want to take advantage of the decor, jump back to Happy Days, I expected The Fonz to walk through the door. For .25 you can listen to a tune on the Jukebox. You will find some of he oldies on there. It was a mixed crowd that day, old , young, and the in between, me. The chicken burger's were plentiful that day and I notice the cheese burgers looked pretty slamin. That will be on the menu for next time. You can get a meal deal for $8.00, comes with a chicken burger , fries or onion rings and drink. We actually substituted the drink for a milkshake. All was good!

This review is entirely based on the Burger Week burger they had featured - wow! I am not one to mix meats (this had beef & chicken) but everything about this burger simply sounded so perfect to me. Pineapple, jalapeño, soft bun; a whole lotta yum! I hope they either make this an everyday thing and run it as a special sometime soon; it was that good!

Temperature is, in fact, not the deciding factor.

Steamed diced chicken in gooey white buns - something so simple, and yet. The stuff of dreams. All Haligonians refer reverentially to The Chickenburger, with good reason. Their fries are also DELICIOUS, as well as their milkshakes. Not bad little burgers, either. The soup is good - I ask for not too much stuff so I basically have a side of broth for dipping etc. Don't even think of trying the new chicken poutine. Tastes like change - eulch. I also saw a sign for whole wheat buns. Wheat the F****... The jukebox is now free, which makes me feel ambivalent...What of asking mom for 8 quarters and totally bogarting the joint with Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves, Suspicious Minds, etc? In a tranquil sense of mourning for the "Old Chickenburger" (pre airport branch, pre whole wheat options pre My Teens) I played Willie Nelson's Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain. It felt right.

We tried the Chicken Burgers for the first time last weekend and had a great experience. The vintage settings - bar stools, jukebox, coke ads etc. were so awesome! We could not resist trying their milkshakes - chocolate for me, vanilla for him. Thick, cream & delicious. Food-wise, I opted for the original chicken burger and it was also great. My husband had a double cheeseburger & fries. Some of the best "fast food" that we've had in a while.

WOW! What a great place! I felt as if I was living back in the 50's when I went to this restaurant! The Chicken Burger has been around since the 1940's and it's the oldest drive in restaurant in Canada. Other than a few renovations, the restaurant still looks the way it did 50 years ago. They have a lot of old pictures hanging and it is incredibly how much it hasn't changed! When I first heard of the Chicken Burger, I thought it was going to be a deep friend, breaded chicken burger....NOPE! It is real chicken that is chopped and steamed between a fresh bun. I ordered 2 chicken burgers (not that big) and an order of onion rings and a famous chocolate shake. WOW! I was stuffed to the brim (I think the shake put me over) and it was yummmmy! It was costly compared to other fast food restaurants I've been to, but totally worth it. I will definitely continue to eat at the Chicken Burger. Apparently, it's a famous stop for travellers and bikers and folks with antique cars. It is pretty popular in the summertime and is quite the 'hangout' for adults. They have many tables outside so it would be a great place to stop for a shake and a bit to eat on a hot day.

I don't understand the popularity of this place. Food is average. Frozen fries and onion rings. Portions small. Prices high.

Very quiet for a Sunday. It seems to have lost the magic with the changed ownership. Food ok but not as good as before.

Then today i try ordering again and i order the burger i want and make my modifications online and also order a strawberry milk shake which is 7.99 btw. I their online order pick up progress thing is also miss leading, it doesnt actually show when its being prepared it just jumps from being order taken straight to pick up- even though it tells you, you have to wait for like 45 minutes, surprise its ready in ten which would have been great had it actually told me my burger was being prepared. I get there pick up my burger and my shake go home and the shake is not what i expected. is a "small" size for an artificially blended strawberry ice cream with literally no strawberries in it. like how you gonna charge 7.99 for and it be so fckn mediocre. Then there was the burger that had everything i asked for it not to have on it and didnt have the things i wanted on it. and when i called them they said they could only change the buns but not the burger, i cant eat bacon and there was bacon on the burger. and there reasoning was because they didnt want to use another patty... im sorry but i shouldnt have to fucking pay 20 dollars for the fucking burger and then when you get my order wrong you say were not gonna use another 6 dollar patty that we charge 4x the amount of to make you another one. oh i gave the burger to some rando on the street cause food shouldnt go to waste. Darrels fck u.

This trip was different because the food was incredible. That was the best cheeseburger I've had in the HRM. Even the bun was perfect to hold it all together. The first place I've found that knows how to cook home fries they're crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Both of our meals,my wife got a poutine and I got the cheeseburger with fries and we split a pop came to less than $21.00 that's right two can dine on fresh food for less than a million. The woman that was serving us was very polite and really wanted to know if we liked our food. She made it a great experience. The restaurant looks like every other fast food place on the inside, but it was clean. A secret that can't be beat, a homemade large burger for that price I'll be back, my new favourite burger joint.

A good downtown food scene has lots of different options - different ethnicities, styles and price…read morepoints - to cater to the equally varied tastes and needs of people. I was wanting a quick bite before meeting coworkers for a drink, and Iron Rooster fit the bill. The store was quiet for a Friday evening, and the lone staff member doubled as both server and cook. The menu is somewhat lean (figuratively speaking, as it's more vegetable-adverse than KFC!), with familiar fried chicken items like wings, drumsticks, house-made popcorn chicken, strips and a chicken burger. Sides are equally deep fried and brown. I wish the menu would lean more into more obviously Asian versions of fried chicken, but a couple such options do show up, with the Beijing chicken wrap and a curry chicken bowl (effectively karaage don). I ended up going with Combo Meal A, which gives you the option of a chicken burger or the Beijing wrap, and fries or a couple chicken wings. Unsurprisingly, I went for the wrap and did not double down on chicken, opting for the fries instead. I was eating-in, so my food came as it was ready. The fries came in the now very common, mini-deep-fryer basket, with a decent amount of golden brown fries filling it. They were crispy-coated, so a bit of a cop-out in this golden age of hand-cut fries, but hey, they were still wonderfully crisp, hot and fluffy! Oh, and I got a garlic seasoning on them as well, so they had some more oomph. The wrap soon followed, rolled up in paper that has some very cute branding! It wasn't huge, with a couple chicken strips, pickled cucumber, green onion, and a sweet and salty, teriyaki-esque sauce. The flavours all kind of worked though, and the pliable wrap (not sure what its origins were, as it seemed too stretchy to be a standard wheat tortilla) held up well. The chicken's crispness suffered from the sauce and self-steaming, but these things happen. My second visit had me stopping in before a trivia night with friends, and this time I went for the half-sized portion of Cornish hen, once again getting fries for my side. There were a few takeout orders ahead of me in the queue, but it wasn't too long of a wait. My basket of fries came out first, and the crispy coating and garlic seasoning were just as good as last time. It was a bit longer for my chicken, but it was worth it. The batter was good and crispy, the meat tender and juicy, and it was an ongoing battle between my hunger and self-preservation instinct from the hot-out-of-the-fryer chicken. Interestingly, the chicken is cooked as one solid piece, as being broken down into its constituent parts would have made for a better coating-to-meat ratio, and it would cook quicker too. My chosen side sauce of honey garlic added further flavour and a contrasting hit of sweetness. Service on both visits was very friendly and helpful. Sometimes you just have to scratch that itch for fried chicken, and Iron Rooster has got your fix.
