Reuben burger with fried onion
Joy O.

Very grateful to the entire staff. There were 14 of us (including kids) arrived 20 minutes before they closed for the day. They warmly received us and patiently waited on us while we were busily scanning through the menu. Husband and I ordered a Reuben burger (with fried onion), and a regular poutine. The poutine with real cheese curd topped with thick/ salty gravy is a strong contender to Willy's in Halifax. The Rueben burger was gigantic and delicious (the fried onion is a must). The patty was made of Angus beef and buried under a pile of real Montreal smoked meat! We were able to share them (reluctantly) with our 2.5 yr old son :) Our other guests also enjoyed their meals tremendously: soup + homemade bread, smoked meat poutine..etc. The thing is I was too busy enjoying my food to notice what others were eating!

First time here after hearing positive things from friends. I had Montreal Smoked Meat & my brother had the Newfie poutine. Everything was fantastic, loved the stuffing on the poutine better than Mom makes.. :-) Will definitely be back to this place.

Cant miss it

Stopped in to have a look. Bad idea! I ended getting almost one of every sweet there were. Ok not all to eat right away but i did eat the cinnamon bun with a coffee. Very good. The owner n staff very friendly. He made me taste his sugar pie and it was delicious. Dont have to tell you i got a piece to go. Did nit try the main course but everything looks mmm good. If ur in the part of nova scotia it is worth a stop

"WOW, that is delicious!" Came out of my mouth constantly as Jacques let me sample his delicious Sugar Pie, Smoked Meat & Mandarin Orange Tea Biscuits. It was so hard not to walk out with a slew of goodies and worth every penny! It's worth the drive to Tantallon.

The sugar pie is delightful. However, there's no excuse for unfriendly staff (owner?) or overpriced product.

Finally someone in the Valley who can make REAL food and not shut down for the 'winter'! Great year…read moreround hours open Wednesday to Sunday, 11 AM - 8 PM. We have been excited to try this spot since it opened in the fall but it was always super busy but the wait was well worth it. This is a take out so if it's off-season, expect to sit in your car to wait for your food or pre-order ahead of time if you want it ready when you show up. You get a little buzzer to take to your car if you do choose to wait, so it's a great system. In the summer, there is a lot of outdoor seating at picnic benches. The chicken shawarma was massive and delicious! Fresh ingredients and fluffy pita bread. Good bang for your buck. The 'hot' fish was also really good but not actually spicy. The only things I'd suggest the owner to change is to make the sauce less runny to avoid making the fish batter soggy and to switch from shredded to leaf lettuce - it would make less of a mess. We got fries to share but we could have done without. They're nice and crispy and not overly salty. Quite a few fun 'maritime' options on the menu that we will be back to try like lobster sandwich and lobster poutine. It's nice to finally see someone investing in the area with good food. The area really doesn't need another deep fried, overly battered greasy fish and chips place so this is very welcomed. Super accessible right on the highway. Lots of parking. Looking forward to seeing what else the owners do with the place!

This guy rocks! He…read morerecently catered a wedding I attended and he did not disappoint. Would recommend hiring him for any event in the Halifax area. Super friendly dude with a delicious menu. Also, handled a curveball really well. It started raining during the rehearsal dinner and he improvised and made it all work!

I love me the Nomad Gourmet…read more My first experience was at a Local Connections Halifax event linked up with Propeller Beer. Bought a ticket, got beer and NG burgers. It was beer and burger heaven for the evening. My second experience was sampling their sausages on a bun when checking out the Man Show part of the Exhibition Park Christmas Craft Fair. One thing is clear, you don't have to be a man to enjoy the tasty morsels being served up from the NG kitchen. And then this weekend I got to try breakfast Nomad style. I chose to "build my own breakfast' for $4. The way this works is you get an egg and hash browns and add on things at your choosing for extra $. I added some bacon and got the BEST BACON of my life. It was perfectly grilled and made my weekend. The egg was fried egg perfection and there were too many hash browns for me to eat. The hash browns are real local potatoes cooked on the grill and have a charbroiled taste to them. Pro-tip - NG will now be at the Halifax Seaport Market on weekend mornings as long as there isn't a cruise ship in harbour. Extra Pro-tip - I didn't try the breakfast sandwich - but people - it's homemade Belgian waffles with chicken!! One final tip - when your handsome pirate brother has a new baby the way to the new parents hearts is to bring Nomad Gourmet burgers to the hospital for lunch the day after the baby is born. That way both new parents are happily stuffing their faces with burger goodness and you get your brand new niece all to yourself! (at least until the burgers are devoured...)

Their menu had no vegetarian entrees and when I…read moreordered the cheese dip it came out covered in real bacon bits (which it did not indicate on the menu). The service was also lack luster, which I found surprising as we were one of only 2 or 3 tables. At one point we had to wave down the server to ask for more drinks, as she had been by our table, where our empty glasses were sitting, countless times and had not stopped. I very much doubt that I will ever eat here again.

So, we had a Friday evening and a desire to go out to eat without the kiddies. Adults night out…read more Issue is, my wife is terribly allergic to gluten. Not just the GI issues common with Celiac, but also neurological issues, secondary to her exposure. So, it was with great excitement that we found a local menu with gluten "reduced" options. We set out with great anticipation! In all fairness, they do not claim to be gluten free. Which we appreciate, since very few places we have found are truly gluten free. Our server was very knowledgable about the options and advised us what to try and what not to try. Looking at the menu, there were some glaring contradictions. Gluten reduced meal with flour based gravy? Hmmmm.. She opted for the pulled pork with gluten free bun and a salad. All reported to be "safe" for her consumption. Later that night, all of the exposure symptoms set in. The upset belly, weakness, headache, tingling in limbs. The full deal. We are not losing our minds in anger as they seem to be conscious and attempt to do right by people with gluten issues. But given the choices we made and results from that, I would be leery to believe this was gluten reduced at all. The symptoms would lead us to believe full exposure. Whether the pulled pork had wheat in it, can't be sure. Just a word to the wise. Try again.

This fixture of Blue Acres has been around for longer than I've been present on this plane of…read moreexistence, so it's with deep shame that I admit that it was only this spring that I tried it for the first time. While looking for a quick lunch on a sunny Saturday, I was right behind a few other people who just got their food as I was ordering, putting me at the front of the queue. Owner and sole staff member Donna guided me through the highlights of her menu and I settled on the hamburger platter. Several minutes of wonderfully pleasant chit chat with Donna followed while I watched her prepare my food like a well-oiled machine. My food was soon ready, coming tightly packed on a heaped paper plate for me to eat in my car, although you can get it secured for a trip home or elsewhere. The crinkle cut fries, while unsurprisingly from a bag, were spot on, with shatteringly crisp exteriors and light, fluffy interiors. The burger was diner-style par excellence - steamed bun; a beefy, hand-made, griddle-cooked patty; melty cheese; sauteed onions, and some bite from mustard and relish. I should have nixed the ketchup to dial back the sweetness, but this was still a great little burger. A cup of house-made coleslaw was of the creamy variety, but still had a bit of tang to it, which helped cut through the rich meal a little bit. On my return visit, I went with the fish and chips. While it's a box that a lot of restaurants feel they have to check, and they do so poorly with from-frozen, pre-battered fish, I heard that Donna batters it in-house, so I was looking forward to trying it. This was a very good order of F&C. The batter was light and airy, and the two-piece was a good amount of food, with the pieces like the half filets that you'll see around, rather than the one gargantuan piece of fish that pubs often have for shock value. The fish was firm, but tender and flakey and I don't know if tartar sauce was forgotten or isn't offered, but I truly just enjoyed the fish on its own. Ceilidh Drive-In is among a dying breed of old school greasy spoons that do the simple stuff well, and while it took me a while to get there, it won't be long before I'm back.
