Double bacon cheeseburger with the works and "small" fries
    Murray W.

One of the burger joints from the great burger boom of 2013, Boom Burger has generally flown under the radar of its more centrally located peers, instead functioning as the local alternative to McDonalds in the Bedford West area. I stopped by on the way into work, and there was a small but steady stream of people coming in for food. This quasi-chain of two locations is definitely biting the Five Guys model, from its compact menu and way of ordering your burger toppings, to the sacks of potatoes on pallets. They're proudly PEI though, with island beef, Cows cheese and, of course, potatoes. You can't help but go traditional with their (figuratively speaking) lean menu, so I went with a double bacon cheeseburger, small fries and water, because I'm a health nut like that. I waited a few minutes for the orders ahead of me to go through, but was easily able to kill time thanks to the wonders of modern technology and BB's free, no-password-needed wifi. My order was called and I sat down with my bag of grease. In true Five Guys, er, Boom Burger style, the small fries was more like a medium or large, thanks to the full cup of fries and the extra that were sitting in the bottom of the bag. Unwrapping my burger, it looked like a tasty hot mess, with burger, cheese, and sautéed onions and mushrooms spilling out. All the toppings were great, making for lots of flavour. They also helped with the beef, as while it had a nice fresh beef flavour, it was on the dry side. The bun wasn't anything special, and could have stood to be slightly wider to contain everything and be a little heftier as well, as it was falling apart under the weight and moisture of all the toppings. My pile of carbs was on par with the burger - OK at best. The hand-cut fries were a fairly dark golden brown, but not as crispy as you'd want or expect for that shade. They also required a hefty dose of salt to get any flavour, and even then were noticeably bland. While it's nice that this place isn't a big multinational corporation, unless you're making a product that's worth the $18 that my meal cost, it's hard to justify your existence.

    Time to go boom..

At first I wasn't sure what to expect from boom burger. I can say I was pleasantly surprised with my first experience. I ordered the big boom bacon cheeseburger and a large poutine... To split... The poutine on its own is a meal. Ordered at around 750, got our food at 813. With one order ahead of us. The poutine was amazing. Fresh cut fries, loads of cheesecurds and gravy... 8.99 My big boom was really good. As people told me, nothing fancy. Just a great tasting burger. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients. . A little pricey in my opinion... But what do you expect... It's 2015.

Tried here for the first time for lunch on a HOT Tuesday in July 2020 at about 12:15. Lots of available parking. There was no one in line when we walked in, and we were greeted immediately by a friendly server. Another couple were waiting for their order. I tried the single patty cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, mayo, ketchup, mustard and grilled onions. (a bit messy but delicious and just the right size). Small fries (only wanted a few, and the cup holds a few, but lots were at the bottom of the brown paper bag when we received it, so I felt like I had actually ordered a large that spilled over... lol). My friend had the Foxy Dill Burger (one of their specials with dill pickles, potato chips, dill mayo) and he enjoyed it as "above average." They have their own tomato plants growing in the restaurant by the tables at front, which are used in the food, and that's neat. There were maybe 8 or 9 tables for four people, which look to be naturally spaced enough to satisfy covid requirements, half were taken. The menu here isn't huge but I'd go back if I just felt like a random burger some day. I think milkshakes would be a nice addition.

BOOM! $18.95 for just a burger and fries.

Not terrible but it is expensive. For the price you may as well goto a nice restaurant and get some decent food.

So good. Best burger in Bedford hands down. Kind of pricey but worth it and super generous amounts of food.

Great burger and fry joint! Beats Five Guys hands down. Also a nice atmosphere and friendly service.

Being a fan of the Rinaldo brothers' previous endeavours of T-Dogs and their farmers market table…read morethat bore their surname and slung hero sandwiches and cannoli, I was both glad and a little disappointed when I heard they were opening shop in the recently-cavated TGFE location on Windsor. Glad because these guys deserve their own space to serve kickass food, but disappointed because I no longer lived around the corner. What a tease. After giving them some time after the initial opening to find their legs, and hoping for the crowds to settle down, my wife and I came by before one of my night shifts, just after they opened for the evening. The space is very much the same as the old TGFE, but updated with new furnishings and a several new coats of paint. It has the very common black/red/white palette, but here it's different than other spots that do it hyper-modern and chic; here it's much more casual and retro with framed family photos, wood paneling painted white, their classic neon sign, and their very, very red booths. Snagging one of the vibrant vinyl seats, I eagerly scoped out the broader offerings that I had been hearing a lot about. While not as compact as many modern restaurants' menus, Rinaldo's is still a mere fraction of the made-for-the-masses bulk of East Side Mario's, with a few each of apps, salads, heroes, general Italian mains, and several pizzas on offer. I'd heard lots of great things about their mozza sticks, so those were a lock, and my wife and I decided to get one more app and to share one of their pizzas, which we had heard were a decent size. The spicy cauliflower sounded interesting, and would constitute the vegetable portion of our meal, albeit a deep fried one. The mozza sticks arrived in quick order, and the cauliflower shortly thereafter. The thick sticks of breaded cheese were definitely heftier than your usual from-frozen pub mozza sticks. Plus the breading had a much better flavour and a sprinkle of parm and parsley rounded them out nicely, because if fried cheese needs a garnish, it's gotta be more cheese. The dipping sauce was dill-tastic and fresh, although I appreciated the stretchy cheese on its own. Cauliflower is hot right now in food circles, but the spicy cauliflower seemed like a bit of a misnomer, as the only heat seemed to come from a light sprinkling of sliced chiles. That said, the breading was nice and crunchy, and the cauliflower inside was surprisingly smooth and nearly creamy, without being a goopy, vegetal mess. The flavours of the other toppings all worked quite well, with the honey, parsley pesto, and pecorino making for a well-balanced dish (sans spice, anyway). Our pizza was a bit of a wait, but it was a sight to behold when it arrived. Topped with pepperoni, roasted garlic, mozza, Parmigiano Reggiano, and wonderful blobs of ricotta, it was big on great flavours. So many dishes, both Italian and otherwise, will throw a bunch of cheeses in a dish just to brag that it's a "X Cheese Dish", but here each stood out and played a part. The cornicione was airy and crispy, although the inner parts of the pie suffered the floppy doom of all thin crust pizzas. It did reheat quite well the next day though; via a frying pan and not the dreaded microwave, naturally. While not perfectly executed, it was a damned good meal with the structure to be even better with some minor polishing. It's worth the hype - go there and keep this place open until I am able to come back again.

This is my birthday go to. Excellent food, exceptional service and a cool vibe. It's not in one of…read morethe popular mainstream locations, and maybe that appeals to me as it gives the place a bit of a mom and pop feel.
