Of all the foods I love in the bread category, the bagel holds a special place in my heart. My fix used to come from Great Canadian Bagel, but it's been all too long since they closed up shop. Halifax became a land of crispy thin bagels, with nothing pillowy or chewy in sight. Until I found Izzy's. Made on premise, along with their fabulous cream cheeses, these bagels are everything I loved about GCB, but better. You can tell these were made with love and care. The whole wheat everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese was perfection. They use just enough cream cheese, not skimpy, but not glopped on either. My mother had their Cheddar and Swiss bagel with butter, and she was more than satisfied. You can also turn your bagel into a sandwich, or get it as part of a breakfast combo if you like. I'll certainly be stopping here more often. The blueberry bagels in particular were hypnotizing, with their lovely purple sheen. Not to mention the scallion cream cheese. I like this place. Their bagels are quality. They can make you up a bagel breakfast sandwich with all the dressings. They're tasty. Very nice people working here from my few experiences. Have never tried the coffee. I believe Javablend supplies them. Their cream cheese is good. You can tell it's fresh. Having said that, I prefer philly cream cheese. Not sure why. read more

What a treat! I've had my eye on Izzy's bagels for awhile and I was not disappointed. Their bagels were amazing, fresh, fluffy and fantastic! The staff were kind and attentive - even though they were packed you felt like your order was the only one that matters. There's so many choices and variety to choose from. I had the turkey club with no cheese on an everything bagel. We were asked a ton of questions to ensure our sandwich was made to our liking! We could even choose more veggies than what is standard - you also get a choice of cheese and sauces. My partner got the breakfast sandwich with egg and sausage on an jalapeño cheese bagel (which from the reviews looks like the most popular). He was so pleased with the taste and texture - choosing his cheese was also something he liked. Every bagel looks picture perfect and tastes just as it looks. We couldn't be happier with our choice and we can not wait to come back! We also took home a few bagels for the week - blueberry and everything. I make the drive out to Bedford sometimes just to treat myself to some bagels & cream cheese from Izzy's! They have a great variety of bagels, but I might just enjoy the selection of cream cheese even more! I think I've gotten a pumpkin cream cheese and a couple of other fun flavours. (I want to say one was apple pie, but it's been so long since that one that I could be dreaming! haha) I have yet to sit down and have one of their bagel sandwiches, but when I've seen them on people's plates, they always look tasty. The shop itself has a nice cafe vibe to it and bright colours and big windows. It definitely seems like a nice spot to hang out and catch up with a friend over a bagel. I am a new Halgonian, and became saddened when I realized there are no bagel shops in the city. Montreal style bagels are my absolute favorite snack, so you'll understand how excited I was to see a shop completely dedicated to bagel delightfulness. I came here this morning and was immediately excited by the amazing looking bagels and the even more amazing sounding cream cheeses. I got 6 bagels and a tub of cream cheese for $7.95. Not bad at all. I went with 3 cheddar jalepeno and 3 herb and cheddar bagels, and the spinach and feta cream cheese. Some of the other options of bagels included sticky bun, (?!), chocolate chip, blueberry, etc. These unfortunately are not Montreal style bagels which initially disappointed me. My disappointment resolved when I realized how fluffy and yummy they are. The jalepeno cheddar were my favorite, with just a subtle, but present jalepeno flavor and the perfect amount of cheese. The herb ones were also delicious. The cream cheese was the winner at my place. I could've eaten with a spoon EASILY. Check this place out! Don't expect Montreal style, but expect fresh, fluffly and DELICIOUS bagels. read more

Finally got around to stopping in here. Now i am busy kicking myself for not doing it sooner! Picked up a dozen bagels for just under 8 bucks. Now, you folks might be thinking "I can get 6 bagels at the grocery store for 2-3 dollars" Yes, you can BUT those bagels are not fresh and delicious. Izzy's bagels are made fresh on site every day. The selection of bagels is phenomenal. There are several cheesy options (who doesn't love cheese?) along with some healthier and sweeter options. I grabbed a variety ranging from cheddar and herb and cheddar and swiss right down to cinnamon raisin and french toast (YES french toast bagels) They also offer a variety of house made cream cheeses. There was nothing there that really tickled my fancy that day but I am VERY picky eater and i already had some Philly at home. All in all, the food is great, the staff was very friendly and pleasant, and the price was right. Go here. You will not regret it. read more

Normally I'm not one to be all, 'Yaaaay! Early morning meeting in Bedford!' but thanks to Izzy's, those days will be easier to swallow with a side of soft, delicious bagels slathered with an obnoxious amount of cream cheese. It's a pretty small space especially in the ordering section so come prepared to jostle a bit between the bagel display case, the cream cheese selection, and shouting distance from the staff (it was weirdly loud for just having a handful of people in there). The case had easily two dozen different kinds of bagels baked fresh. And I'm talking reeeeally fresh. As in, squishy and wonderful even after being toasted fresh. I grabbed the cheddar and swiss bagel because, well, c'mon, it's cheese, and it was delicious. You could actually taste both cheeses. I stuck with just plain cream cheese for the inaugural visit but they do have fancier options. Those just aren't really my scene except for maybe the garlic or spinach and feta but I wouldn't wish that breath on anyone. No light options from what I could tell but you won't be coming here to count calories anyway, right? Two bagels with cream cheese was $6.08. Pretty awesome. read more

Simply, Izzy's produces the best bagels in HRM. The bagels are made fresh on-site, and remind me of the bagels from my childhood. I originally hail from the U.S., living in New York and Florida. When I moved to Nova Scotia, I was concerned that I would be stuck with poor bagel replicas sold in bulk inside a grocery freezer. I am so relieved that I discovered Izzy's. When Great Canadian Bagel closed up shop in Sunnyside mall, I had heard that the "business" would move down the road. No idea where, but Izzy's is located in the middle between Sunnyside & Sobey's. Small spot, no surprises, if you were a regular at the sunnyside location, the best stuff is here with better looking lunch options. Large coffee & everything bagel w/ cream cheese will run you around ~4$ Staff are friendly, wifi and a few tables to eat in. This past weekend was my third time visiting Izzy's Bagal Co. It's quickly becoming a delicious early Saturday morning pastime. I must preface this review by letting you know I'm a bread person. I thrive on the stuff and go through various bread cycles for my current breakfast. Six months of bagels everyday, three months of toast, two months of English muffins, then back to bagels. I'm currently in a heavy bagel cycle. To date, I've tried almost every bagel they sell. Twice now we've picked up a dozen bagels for breakfasts (and sometimes even dinner) for the rest of the week. I've found Izzy's bagels keep their freshness and taste for just as long as their store bought counterparts. They're worth bringing home to enjoy! My to date favourite is the cheddar swiss. If you enjoy adventure and a kick to your taste buds there is a cheese jalapeño bagel as well. They carry the bagel classics: poppy seed, sesame, and whole wheat. I don't think I could remember or name all the types of bagels they offer. There is some pretty intense selection. The cream cheese goes hand in hand with the bagels and they offer their various flavours in convenient take home containers. I've had the zesty cheddar, herb and garlic, cinnamon, and scallion. All were delicious and complimentary with their bagel friends. If you eat in you can have your bagel toasted with butter, house cream cheese, or made into a breakfast sandwich with bacon and eggs. Hearty! Perhaps this is a taste preference but I didn't find any of the whole wheat bagels as appetizing or tasty as their white counterparts. The bread was much tougher and the flavours were a little muted. I also did not like the sticky bun bagel as much as I thought I would. It's difficult to toast at home without making a very gooey mess in the toaster. If you choose the sticky bun bagel ask for a bag to separate him from his normal bagel friends. He'll spread his goo all over the others. That being said, I know people who think the sticky bun is the best flavour going. Pricing is excellent. Bagel prices run on par with Tims and the sad grocery store offerings. I was very impressed by the prices for freshly baked bagels considering variety and work that goes into making those little fellas. The breakfast sandwiches, sandwiches, drinks, and other menu items were reasonably priced. Definitely worth a drive through Bedford! read more

Well well. Moving to Bedford has been having its perks. Izzys offers up a fantastic array of homemade bagels. Every flavor you can think of. And for fantastic prices! their cream cheese is phenomenal. Always tastes fresh and with the perfect amount of flavoring. They also serve java blend coffee which is great. But unfortunately do not have any non dairy milks and only offer refined and brown sugar. And they don't have proper recycling bins so that's the other downside. But go for the bagels! WOAH! Tasty! I don't typically opt for bagels, but today my sister and I stopped in Izzy's for a quick lunch. I had the tuna salad on a cheddar jalapeño bagel, my sister had the turkey club on plain. We were both instantly delighted & commented on the deliciousness after the first bite! The tuna salad was a nice mix, my bagel was toasted but still perfectly soft in the middle. I'm not sure what type of mayo they used, but the flavours were dreamy! We will definitely be back. Yum! read more

Being a native New Yorker I'm always on the hunt of a comparable bagel shop in my travels. I FOUND ONE, surprisingly in Bedford, these are as close to New York bagels that I've found anywhere. While they do have some unusual bagels (that I did not try) the whole wheat everything was a favorite, the only thing missing is the salt (may be a NY thing). The staff is helpful and friendly and I heard they can package them for your trip home. WIll definitely make this a stop on my next trip to Halifax. read more

Stopped in here for a bagel (for me) and ice cream (for the little one) on a hot day. They have Chapman's ice cream and it's $1.00 per scoop with about 8-10 flavours to choose from. Little guy loved his cone and the bagel and coffee selection was plentiful. Nicely toasted bagel with butter was Only $1.57! About a dozen different bagel varieties with lots of cream cheeses offered. They have a small patio on the side with a few tables which is a good place to watch the traffic go by while you enjoy your food. read more

It's all good. Maybe a little too good. Arrive too late and you'll find the favorites sold out. The location could be better. Getting in and out of parking on the Bedford Highway is rarely fun. I certainly miss having bagels this good at Sunnyside Mall, but after a few bagel free months the drive up the Bedford Highway was well worth it. What an unusual place to find bagels, right on the old Bedford highway! Village-like location in a small strip mall, with decent parking in front and around the side. This shop is well-established in their own style of bagel - not NY, not Mtl, but a unique and delicious texture.
