I've purchased 24 Carrots baked goods from various places around the city, but this past weekend was the first time I set foot in their actual retail space. This is mainly due to the fact I didn't know they had a retail location. Recently, I've decided to reduce my waste and eventually go zero waste. It's quite the lifestyle change! I've been looking for bakeries that I can buy a loaf of bread without any packaging. On the suggestion of a fellow Yelper, I made my way to this very hidden north end gem. It's super tucked away down Kempt Road on a little side street I've nicked named auto body alley. A little hole in the wall, this place has a delicious wall of artisan breads and a baked good case full of cupcakes and sweets!
First off, they had lemon bar samples at the counter. Delicious! I love this place already. They didn't give me any guff about my weird zero packaging request. If you don't want to take it as far as zero packaging, they can put your bread in paper or plastic, even have it sliced up.
I bought a loaf of multi-grain sour dough, and a chocolate croissant to eat right away. The sour dough is delicious, no big hard grains, easily fits in the toaster when sliced. Which is important, when making toast. The chocolate croissant was to die for! flaky, baked perfectly with the perfect amount of chocolate on the outside and inside. This is definitely my new go-to place for baked goods. I was going to type croissants (plain, cheese and chocolate), but lets be real, I'm getting everything from here from now on. read more
