This is the best bakery in Halifax. Fresh, no compromising on quality. This is reflected by how it is always busy with long line ups particularly in the morning. The best part is their extremely reasonable pricing!!! Even with the overall increase in food pricing they have not changed very much over the years. Came here when Le French Fix was closed on the last day of my work conference and I'm SO GLAD I did. The chai latte filled donut was a totally unique flavor and I nearly inhaled the sweet brioche loaf the cashier recommended. Everything I've tried here has been delicious! Their croissants are wonderfully light, fluffy and flakey & only $2. I've taken home some great strawberry rhubarb tarts and loaves of bread from here. The staff are friendly and helpful. The space is warm and inviting with lots of natural light through the huge windows facing Gottingen. The kitchen area is fully visible if you like to watch bakers at work. On all of my visits there have been people here, but there has always been seating available. I would highly recommend stopping in to enjoy a croissant or one of the fancier baked goods while you people watch! read more

We were in the North End on Good Friday and were delighted to discover that LF Bakery was open. They had bunny shaped bread loaves in the window, so of course I dragged my husband in to have a look. It's a few doors down from EDNA - just look for the blue sandwich board. It's in the old Carrot location, which fits LF Bakery perfectly. I had only been in The Carrot once, but I remember the space was delightful, and it still holds true with the new bakery. When you walk through the doors you'll find a few tables, but if you're anything like me all you will see are the racks and racks of freshly baked bread. They have cases full of delicious snacks too - sweet at the first counter, and more savoury delights just around the corner by the espresso machine. We deliberated over what to get and decided on a baguette and an apple strudel, which was so beautiful I hated to crack into it. Until I cracked into it and then it was quickly devoured. The pastry was perfect - not too heavy, not to sweet, just the perfect balance of flavours. It was exactly what I had hoped for in the strudel. And the baguette? Well it managed to last overnight miraculously, but not much after that. I need to get back there soon and try their coffee or tea...and something from that savoury case. read more

So.... Halifax now has its own 'French Quarter'! This place gets 10 stars from me. Combine it with Ratinaud a couple doors away and this has become one of our favourite destinations in the whole city. The Gruyere Croissants are beyond compare. When you have half a dozen people lined up outside the door patiently waiting for bread on a February morning at -15°... you KNOW you've found a terrific bakery. LF Bakery is a traditional french bakery that just brings a whole new world to bakeries in Halifax. They also have sandwiches and other pastries, all at a higher quality than most bakeries in the city. Drink - Coffee isn't bad. A little on the watery side. But their cappuccinos are amazing so I'll let the coffee slide. Other drinks are fantastic, only seems to be the coffee that is weak. Customer Service - Nice. Not overly happy, but not negative either. They always seem to be busy so keeping a smile on is impressive in either case. Environment / Cleanliness - Always tip-top. The space has as many chairs as possible without crowding the environment. The washroom has always been very clean every time I go in it. That speaks volumes as to the cleanliness of the staff. Conclusion: I think you know why I gave this place five stars by now. All I can say is, check it out. I know...not very creative. They've left me speechless though. read more

The croissants were the best in Halifax! Now, they generally taste a bit burnt. Impossible to rewarm them because they are are already over baked? I feel sad because I used to love this bakery but the baked goods really do not taste as buttery as they did originally. I had the pleasure of vacationing in Halifax and staying directly across the street from this little slice of heaven. My wife and I came into the bakery on a Sunday afternoon and we immediately felt as if we had hit the jackpot. The smells of fresh baked goods, the customers milling around just enjoying the atmosphere, and the line of folks waiting for incredible bakery and outstanding coffee and sandwiches. It has a good "vibe" and the customer service was outstanding. Our croissants and doughnuts were the best we've ever tasted here in North America. This is a true artisan bakery and they are passionate about what they offer their customers. It clearly shows. Ingredients are locally sourced when possible and the bakers obviously have both the technical skills and the artistry necessary to put this all together. The counter help was friendly, knowledgable and passionate about what they do. When we mentioned we had heard about this bakery back in the States and couldn't wait to visit, we were unexpectedly gifted with an extra doughnut! It was a wonderful and delicious surprise that just confirmed for us how well run this business is. We visited every day they have been open, and, tomorrow morning before we depart for our journey back to Vermont, USA, I will stop and get a box of treats for our trip. My taste buds will thank me. Still on the fence whether they're worth the rude service. the scowl on our server was eclipsed only by the shrug I received when I asked if there were any croissants. , the lovely two elderly ladies beside me were excitedly deciding which bread to buy and were treated like they were a hassle. While I was devastated when The Carrot, my neighborhood grocery store shut down, I was elated to discover a French bakery was going in the former location. I lived in Normandy for a bit during University, and when I visit LF Bakery for a brief moment, I'm transported back to France - from the delicious baguettes, often warm out of the oven, that pass my "no butter needed" test, to the friendly staff, even down to the smell of the shop as you pass by. I've been working my way through their different loaf selections and appreciate that they carry mini (or petite) versions of the baguette, for nights when you just want a little bread to go with your dinner. I think the Miche loaf is my favorite bread, and I am in love with their chocolatines, I treat myself to one every Sunday. The coffee should be better! as we have great roasters in Halifax, and I think that they don't use 100% Butter in their Croissant.I don't think allot of the Parisian Bakeries do ether any more with Butter Being so expensive and the limits we have. other than that this is probably the best all round Bakery in Halifax. they are very productive however this is not a pastry shop but a good old fashion bakery. read more

I really enjoyed the patio that this place had! It's very quiet and clean, and is even built around a tree. I had a latte and a chocolatine. The chocolatine was great and was quite large. The latte was average or a little better than average. The only problem I had was with the girl that took my order. She was probably early-to-mid-twenties, dirty blonde hair, and just looked like she would literally rather be anywhere else. She was short with me when I ordered and had this blank stare the entire time. When she was making the latte, she went to pour the milk in as if she was going to do a design, then looked at me, and just dumped the milk in. I've never seen anyone do that to a latte before. She was just quite unpleasant. Unfortunate because the other two working seemed very nice (mid thirties - one man and one woman). I'll probably return because the baked goods are wonderful and the patio is quite nice, but I just hope I don't have to deal with that girl again! read more

Fortuitously this wonderful bakery opened as I was visiting Halifax, in September, and it became a daily destination. Good coffee and comfortable seating available. Word of mouth created lineups within 2 weeks. Great bread and tarts and the croissants are the best I have ever tasted ! EVER ! Michel is the friendly and gracious gentleman at the counter. A real gem of a French bakery! There's not much advertising but it's the new blue shop two doors down from the Edna restaurant. So far I've had the chocolate, almond and plan croissants, apple tart, olive sour dough and baggette loaves. Everything is fresh, delicious and it's evident that time and skill went into the baking. I went in for a coffee and a tea. The staff were cold but that's not generally a deal breaker. They didn't tell me they only had one size after I asked for large then they brought out coffees in mugs when I had told them they were to go. They weren't busy as I was the only person at the register. I would avoid this place unless you enjoy not getting what you ordered and only after making sure there was nothing else available in the area. read more

The almond croissant -- to die for! There is not a disappointing pastry... so many to choose from! We stayed in the neighborhood for three nights and stopped here every morning. Hubby (latte addicted) thought the lattes were outstanding. Just looking at the amazing bread selections made us feel like we were in Paris.... or that this bakery was in our hometown. I gave this 3 stars as an average. One star, for the baguette, five for the croissants. I don't know if it was just a really bad day or what, but I was so, so disappointed with the bread. It was horrid, actually. It was hard as a rock on the outside, and full of holes on the inside. There's chew, and there's impossibly hard. It literally had to be soaked to be ingested. And the inside was practically non-existant because of all the holes. One hole was so large, that a few slices were just outer crust with nothing but air in the centre. The croissants, on the other hand, were fantastic. I'll never buy their bread again, but their croissants are worth it for sure. read more
