Decent sized Five Guys in downtown Halifax on Argyle Street - basically in the convention center. Went at lunch on Friday. Not too busy. Nice large interior with a small outdoor dining area. 5 guys is like a Macdonalds order left in the bag for a day then reheated in a microwave. But costs twice the price. My family of 4 all felt the same. 5guys was easily the worst burger and fries we've had in years. If you want something quick and cheap, just go to Macdonalds, Burger King, Dairy Queen -anything. They are all better and cheaper. If you want anything like the stuff that's described in all the signage throughout the space - like having the best burgers and fries you can buy - don't eat there. Turn around and spend a few dollars more at The Narrows or Salt and Ash or Darrell's. All of them are a few dollars more, however amazing and enjoyable. Great environments, tastes incredible with great ingredients. Don't waste your money at Five Guys. read more

Giving it a 2 star because despite being overworked with tons of orders coming in, I got my food in good time. The employees were handling the food with good care, washing hands a ton and were all wearing masks. The food was honestly a couple levels above dogshit. Kraft singles don't belong on burgers, they belong in the garbage. The beef tasted below average, and the burger as a whole was a messy disaster. I've had delicious, locally sourced burgers with a brioche bun for way cheaper as well. Really can't justify ever returning. The Cajun spiced fries were good, but that's it. I've also eaten at a Five Guys in Montreal because it was next to a venue we were playing, and that time it was a little better than this place. I figured it'd be nice to give them a second chance. Nope. The funniest thing to me is that they plaster signs with "Best Burger: Voted by Readers of Washington Post." I feel genuinely bad if these burgers are the best you've ever had. I worked here. Dirty environment, floors are squeegeed instead of mopped. Food is dropped then picked back up. People don't wash their hands before handling food. People eat off the prep tables. Easily the rudest customer service employee I've ever encountered ....we were number 72.. we waited at the front of the restaurant (in clear view and distance of hearing numbers being called) and witnessed them call from 55-89 before we went up and asked about our order (2 burgers and a poutine) the *what I assume to be floor manager that night* because he was in a different coloured shirt than the rest* then yelled at us aggressively "you just aren't listening!!!!!" We we're at the front waiting attentively...I then went to another worker and asked for his name and she walked away. It was another 20 minutes before they finally gave us our order. It was good but nothing special. I understand that this establishment is new but the attitude of the employees is 100 percent unacceptable. We will not be returning. read more

Tried it for the first time last night and I don't get the hype. I had the Bacon Cheeseburger and regular fries, and to be honest, it reminded me a lot of those no-name places you find in tourist towns and along highways...except at those places, you'd probably only pay $8 total for the meal instead of $20. We've gone to a five guys in Toronto and were not impressed, however we wanted to give it another go since it's in such a great location when walking around downtown Hali. LOVED IT, the atmosphere when you walk in is very fun, high energy and even if it's busy they have a well oiled machine going so be patient, you won't wait long. The cajun fries are the perfect level of spicey (THEY ARE SPICEY) so don't order if you don't like decent spice levels but I was in heaven personally. The burgers were excellent, old school drive-in canteen style juicy, messy deliciousness. Portion sizes are generous. A little pricey compared to other burger joints but this is a little more high end in the taste department so pony up people! We have tried other gourmet burger joints in HRM and even though this is not a gourmet branded restaurant it's our new fave burger/fries joint so we will be returning for sure. Great option when you want to grab a quick bite before a Hurricanes or Mooseheads game, you can walk to the Scotiabank centre from there. The staff behind the counter need a shout out, they are FUN and friendly with big ol' Hali smiles for miles. read more

I'm only reviewing their milkshakes, and they make a big deal about their milkshakes, so they deserve a review. I had a vanilla milkshake with malted milk and it tasted like a chemistry set. The vanilla, the malt, even the cream, all tasted artificial. I drank one-quarter of it and threw it in the garbage. The only reason I drank that much is because the peanuts made me thirsty. I'm not even gonna mention that it was $6. However, the service was friendly and the operation as a whole seemed okay. The people around me eating burgers and fries seemed happy. So one star for the milkshake and one star for everything else. Still, go around the corner to Freeman's or find a McDonalds. read more

I've been to tons of five guys from Montreal across the US, and they cut corners here and no wonder they need 10 guys to get out the orders. Let's elaborate on cut corners, they typically use AMERICAN cheese, it was Canadian craft no tricking this canadian ;) Bacon was pre cooked in baskets for what seemed like bacon for a week! I gaged when I saw that. Its ok by fast food standards but by no means - five guys quality is known for when you order a burger, fries and drink and cost 20 dollars. Go to McDonald's instead. I got the little cheeseburger with grilled onion and mushroom along with a bacon vanilla milkshake and fries. fries could have used a little less salt but the first few were tasty! Definitely going again next time I am in the area! (A great place to go on a date) we got two burgers, fries and two milkshakes and it was like $40, but the food was amazing!) I've been to many Five Guys, both in Canada and the US and I have to say this location is pretty underwhelming. Let's start with the music....so loud the counter person couldn't hear my order so he was putting it in completely wrong. If I hadn't been paying attention to the screen and corrected him, my order would have been totally wrong. And speaking of wrong orders...while we were waiting for our order a girl approached and said she had ordered a regular bacon burger (two patties) but they gave her a little bacon burger (one patty). The guy behind the counter says to her...and this is not a joke....."can I just give you a patty in a bowl and you can fix the burger yourself?" Are you kidding me? The girl said no to that offer and the paid employee who screwed it up in the first place had to fix it and he was pissed and didn't mind letting people know it. Very poor customer service! Overall, the burgers are great but really slapped together. You get lots of fries, my husband and I can split a small, which is great because the place is pretty pricey. read more
