Good simple comfort food. The dining room is clean and comfortable. Will be back. The fried chicken is hand breaded. read more

This place has been fantastic since I was a kid goin fishing at the farm. The gravy, gizzards and tenders and okra sooo yummmmm

The chicken is always good . Fresh. You go up to the counter and order. There is little ambience. It is a chicken joint. read more

Some of the best chicken I've ever eaten. We make it a point to stop here when we travel through Marlin. It's a little off Hwy 6, but worth it! read more

OMG most tender flaky chicken tenders I've ever had in my life. Not greasy at all --- how is this possible? I think I've just discovered the most heavenly chicken & gravy of all time. Pair your tenders with fried okra a sweet roll & a Dr Pepper-- and you'll have achieved southern deliciousness. read more

Good spot for a quick and tasty bite. Left Waco and was headed to Houston. Discovered this place thanks to yelp. Fit the bill for the kiddos. The chicken was fresh and hot. I enjoyed the mashed potatoes and green beans. Service was happy and quick. Worth the extra couple of miles off of Hwy 6. Thanks everyone! read more

Good food at a great price. The chicken tenders were large and were not undercooked like other chicken places. Needed a couple more people working to help with the lunch rush but the people working were super friendly. read more

First time here, and I was impressed with their food. I opted to go to the drive-thru, as I was traveling thru Marlin. Ordered the 3 piece dinner and got a side of okra and 2 hot buttery rolls and a half & half tea. The chicken had a nice crispy breading on it, nothing different than some other local joints I have been to before, but it was juicy and full of flavor. The okra was obviously freshly cooked and also had a nice crispy breading, but it was, like okra can be, kind of tough. Good flavor though. The rolls were hot and soft and had been dipped in butter, which gave them a great flavor, but also made them a little soggy. Nonetheless, I ate them both! The half & half tea was really about 2/3 & 1/3 tea, but not going to hold that against them. All in all this was a pretty good meal for $10. When in Marlin, do not hesitate to eat here! read more

We were looking for a place to eat and found this spot. Upon arrival there were smiles and pleasantries. Ordered the chicken strip meal. I think I was more amazed at the juicy strips more than the fact that they weren't greacy. Definitely stopping by here when I come to Texas read more

Definitely give them a try! I usually get chicken pieces but finally tried the tenders which were really good. I may not go back to the individual pieces! Normally, I'm not a big fry person but their fries are really good. It's always hard to decide between the fries, potato salad, green beans and fried okra. Sometimes I get the fried fish for a change of pace. read more

The best chicken anywhere! Huge crispy tenders that were delicious! Okra was exceptional too!

Outstanding food. Young man that took care of us was extremely friendly. Very impressed

Where do I even begin. Fast and friendly service as soon as I put the car in park at the drive through. We were presented with a very classic southern side selection reminiscent of big chicken franchises made with a homemade feel. We went with the fried okra and when I opened the container steam rushed out from every angle. If you've ever had cold okra you'd know how vital this is to a good meal. Perfect consistency and toughness. The gravy was impeccable and the chicken was nothing short of the best chicken finger I've ever had. Amazing value for the meal especially considering the quality of the food. Please expand to Bryan/College Station!!! read more

Just sat in your drive thru for 15 minutes behind a car that you could've made pull around. Consequently, you lost our business today & probably forever. Ridiculous. (I know you saw us). read more

Stay far away as possible! Weavers were found in the flour. And cooked in some ones order. Stay far away as possible.

Stopped in Marlin for some gas and to wander around a bit. Saw The Chicken Place and decided what the heck. It looks pretty sketchy on the outside but I persevered. Glad I did. 4 tenders with like the best mashed potatoes this side of grandma. Tenders are good too, comes with gravy and a roll. Worth getting off the highway and coming into town. read more

Wouldn't recommend this establishment to anyone, very RUDE staff. At 8:20pm they start cleaning everything and restricting a group of people from sitting at a higher volume table. They get pissed off when you tell them more people are coming mind you they close at 9:00pm. They don't have any sweet tea made they try making it in a small pitcher. Just a overall terrible place. read more

I legitimately thought there was a chance we were going to die. We walked in and the kid at the counter was actually pretty nice but everyone in the back was acting like a fool. Not a glove, hair net or hat In site(you know there's a big chance hair is going to be in your food). Everything was frozen and from the outside it looks like an old timey diner but on the inside it's a basic chain fried chicken store. Now for the "cherry" on top...the manager(or at least the woman who appeared to be the "manager" who obviously was not managing anyone) legitimately and I kid you not began clucking around the kitchen...like she was clucking like a chicken like she was making chicken noises.......at that point I realized the did not give me my fries but I thought nah it's not worth it read more

I drive through Marlin frequently to visit family in west Texas and Marlin is the half way point in the drive. We make a point to stop in at The Chicken Place both ways. If you're in the mood for some moist flavorful fried chicken then this is the place to stop. Friendly attentive waitstaff and reasonable prices read more

I don't even want to give it one star. Just keep driving past or go to Dairy Queen maybe. Nasty. Drinks tasted like mildew. Fries were burnt to a crisp. Shrimp was disgusting. Nasty. The chicken was dry. The coating on chicken was thin and bland. read more

Best chicken I've ever had. This place has been in business for over 25yrs and now I know why. Amazing

A bit of a confusing name (people will frequently ask, "Which chicken place?" when I mention going here), but it has some quality home-style food. As their name suggests, they are best known for their fried chicken. I really enjoy their fried chicken and find it to be just as good, if not better, than many of the chains out there like Church's or KFC. They also have excellent sides--fried okra, green beans, rolls, etc. However, probably my favorite side are their fries. The way they fry and season their french fries make them simply heavenly, albeit completely unhealthy. They're crispy, salty, and have a nice deep fried patina to them. The other great thing about TCP is they usually have a small cafeteria-style set of options in the restaurant as well. My wife will often get their baked chicken with steamed veggies and red potatoes. This is a good option if you want to avoid the fried stuff. If you have a group that needs a restaurant for a meeting, TCP has a room in the back with doors that can be shut to separate your group from the rest of the restaurant. This is actually where the local Rotary Club has their regular meetings. If you set something up in advance, you can also take advantage of this next feature of the restaurant--catering. TCP offers some amazing catering. You would never suspect it from the inside of the restaurant (definitely as a greasy feel to it--hence why I only gave them 4 stars), but they frequently cater high-quality events. They've catered my former church's Thanksgiving meal, as well as countless meetings for a variety of organizations. I've almost never had any complaints about their catering, and apart from seeing staff members in TCP polos, you would never realize that such good food came from a little greasy-spoon chicken joint. Definitely one of the best options for food in Marlin. read more

I am writing this review from my experience this day April 8, 2021 Drive thru around 6:15pm. I have loved this chicken from the Chicken Place since I have lived here the past 1 and 1/2 years. Recently in the last 6 months management seems to have changed hands and today it seems to have changed again. Since this management change, they decide to change the delicious homemade rolls that came with the chicken. When I requested to purchase more new management gave me store bought dinner rolls charging an extra 26cents. Today the 2nd set of new management gave me all dinner rolls and charged me 40 cents for the extra. When I called three times they hung up and now they won't answer. The original fresh rolls were bigger and stayed soft and moist til the next day. These dinner rolls got hard as a rock and we're smaller than the original. To the owners these people are going to ruin your name. Sometimes it's better to quit while you are ahead. Nobody will do it like you did. They aren't running your business right. Changing up the way the chicken taste too, for the worse. I won't be getting a 15 piece family size with extras and a gallon tea twice a month anymore. I'm done. read more

First time at this place family came in from all over. Family reunion . This was on 08/11/16 about 9:15 pm. We were treated awesome. Got the food it was good and on point. Came back the same time at 9:20 pm. The place was clean and they were ready to go. Asked for gizzards and liver. Sir we can't cook them in 40 mins. It doesn't take that long to cook. Thank you if ever I come your way again. I'll not stop again. Customer Service SUCKS. read more

We were passing through Marlin, and very hungry. There were a ton of people eating there. My husband and son got the chicken fried streak dinners. I tried it, and it tasted so good. My daughter and I split had the chicken tenders, and they were pretty good. Their vegetables were delicious. The place wasn't real clean, but everyone working there was friendly. I'd definitely go back. read more

Barely a 1. We've been eating this chicken for a very long time. The quality keeps deteriorating. We just picked tenders up, as well as fried okra(???). There is not o e bit of moisture in the tenders, unless you add gravy to it. It's clear that the chicken has been received...it's very dark, and of course, dry. Does not melt in your mouth, to make you want more, to say the least. Very very disappointing. read more
