Great amount of seating in the restaurant. There is no AC in the washrooms, it feels like a sauna inside. The staff is friendly and the space is great for big groups. We visited Cherie Bistro while downtown for an appointment. We were wandering by and saw the interesting decor. We loved the service and the menu options were amazing. For lunch you had an option for a 2 course meal, which was a great selection. The beef ravioli and turkey and bacon risotto were delicious. The homemade chicken vegetable soup was also excellent. It was a lovely surprise to find a little gem of a restaurant on Church St. We will definitely be going back. read more

This was my third time visiting, and it was horrible. There was absolutely no rosemary in the duck and the red wine that was there before was missing. The duck was completely unseasoned with only three tiny slices of mushroom, and instead of a sauce it was sitting in its own rendered fat, which got all over the roast vegetables as well. It was completely inedible. There was a bonus hair in the food - - short brown, fine and wavy. My hair is long and blonde. The rendered duck fat got all over the vegetables, so they were completely inedible, as was the shrimp with white wine reduction, which actually had cream in it even though I wrote on my note "dairy free", so I could not eat that at all. The description of the shrimp also said white wine reduction with vegetables. It did not mention cream sauce, so please get your descriptions right because your customers count on it. The utter lack of flavour and seasoning is inexcusable with all these great base ingredients that they have. I won't try this again. Uber is refusing to refund me for the allergy containing dish that was improperly described by the restaurant. I can't have those mistakes being made and hair in your food is just disgusting -- wear a hairnet. It's very unfortunate, because my journey with them started out so well, but after three orders, the food has become totally inedible. Pure rendered fat is not a glaze or a sauce. read more

A classic neighborhood brunch spot, I would say its a good spot to grab all your classics you need, but not worth the commute if you are far away. Food: The appetizers were interesting, as our table shared some fried calamari and greek salad (not a typical combination you see side-by-side). The pasta tasted pretty good, although the mussels weren't cleaned very thoroughly as I tasted some sand/grit on a few of them, but the portion was very generous and the garlic bread on the side was a nice tough to balance the acidity from the tomato sauce. It was on the lighter-tasting side as I would have preferred a stronger tomato base. Everything was cooked well. Atmosphere: The place was filled with older couples and we felt a little out of place on a weekend night, but it was a cozy atmosphere and good for small friend or family gatherings. The service in this place is great, I had the Bree which I didn't like, but that's my take on it. It came with a salad that had French dressing on it. A dressing I have not seen or even heard of since my early teens and it tastes the same as I remembered. The Bree was coated and it just was not for me. The gumbo however was absolutely delicious plus I ordered lasagna for home. I suggest you give good place a try and I'd like your take on the Bree. read more

Tasty, filling and better than it looks. The smoked chicken spaghetti dishes we ordered were advertised as (2 for 1) but when we first saw them our initial reaction was that each dish would only be enough for a single meal. Our mistake. There was a lot of pasta, chicken, bacon, mushrooms and pesto cream sauce packed into each of takeout containers. The pictures aren't particularly appealing but thats merely because the ingredients are all very neutral in colour. Some fresh herbs may help add another layer of flavour and would certainly add some colour to the dish. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and would order from The Cheri Bistro again. Came here once before with my parents and again with a great friend of mine from UofT. Very rich in flavour for both dishes that I had. I was full in the end and got only ice cream as dessert. However, coming here on a Monday, there is 3 course special where you get to decide your own appetiser, entree (excluding dishes with lobster or a filet) and dessert from the menu for only $39. I chose that and it definitely paid off. Will be coming back many times in the future for different occasions. read more

I went there a week ago with some friends. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, and realized that it had bacon on it when it arrived. I mentioned it to the waiter, a blonde guy with lots of jewellery. I said, " oh there's been a mistake. I didn't realize that there was bacon included on this grilled cheese sandwich". He looked at me and said," well what do you want me to do about it?", in a snarky tone. I was more than a little taken back at his behaviour, and the way that he spoke to me. I said, " I'm a vegetarian. Would it be possible for you to get me another sandwich without any bacon on it?" He turned to walk away and said," now you've ruined perfectly good sandwich. What am I supposed to do with it now ?and then he also said," maybe next time you should just read the menu properly". I was very shocked from his snarky, and nasty tone. I've never had a server ever speak to me that way in a restaurant, and there was really no need for it. When he returned to the table, I told him that he was very rude. He didn't seem to care. It didn't seem to matter to him, and he offered no apology for his behaviour. Needless to say he did not get a tip, and I will never return to that restaurant again. He definitely needs some courses on manners, and waiter etiquette, in a restaurant. The food is mediocre at best anyway so if you don't go won't be missing much. read more

We were here for lunch on a Saturday, and were seated very quickly. The decor inside was really nice and looked newly renovated. They also have a patio outside, and there are gender-neutral washrooms. I got the fish and chips, which was delicious! It came with some coleslaw and fruits. The batter on the fish was light and crispy (But not oily). Personally, this is one of the best fish and chips I've had in Toronto. The fruits were really fresh as well. I've checked it out a few times and it's pretty good at an OK price point. The quesadillas however our out of this world! Scallops are an art to perfect and we're not skillfully cooked but almost acceptable. Nice seasoning. The daily soup scored. I'm always a little suspicious when a restaurant has such a broad menu it's often one of those we do a lot of things but nothing particularly good verses we do a few things really good. I haven't sampled the entire menu yet but so far so good. The quesadilla's here are the best I've ever tasted! And a large serving as an appetizer. Don't miss these!!! But tonight we had a very friendly waiter Who had saturated himself in Cologne. Likely sprayed it on his clothes. The smell was strong enough that it actually was a bit nauseating for me and certainly impacted our dining experience. It shouldn't be rocket science to figure out that if you're serving in a restaurant you don't wear scented products. Most of the clients are there for the taste experience and that impacts it. (Hey management it times for a common sense policy when then staff just don't get it. ) I will be back and eager to check out their Sunday dinner specials. We so need that. My wife and I came to visit our daughter in the area. We stopped by the Bistro. We particularly appreciated the cleaning staff who actually while clearing the table, tended to our needs. He was pleasant and professional and had a welcoming smile at all times. We accidentally gave him our order and he was kind enough to get our menus and pass on our order to the waiter. He made us feel welcome until our waiter was available. The waiter was informative and pleasant at all times. We ordered dessert and a coffee and the food was delicious. We checked out this place during its soft opening and had a really lovely experience. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the Blackened Salmon and my other half had the Risotto, and we ended with one of the best slices of Tiramisu cake I've ever had (and I'm Italian!). The portions were also very generous - we couldn't finish everything on our plate. Service was very friendly. I love how the place has a "mom and pop" kind of feel to it. It's not a franchise or certainly not just another pub. It's so nice to have a great new restaurant in the Village! Can't wait to go back. read more

Ordered that tonight and it would have been considerate if the owner had described the soup as being as if 12 Scotch bonnets had been put in the small container of soup because that's exactly what it tasted like. Ok, NP. reorder. 20 min later: lamb burger, grey, hard and tasteless, cold fries. Excellent salad, nice dill dressing. Ok, it's a pandemic. Time to pay, bill is charged separately, not the special. 'oh that's the tax'. No, the tax is separately charged... ok whatever. Off I go. Server comes back after me calling loudly 'It's declined... maybe it's the machine's fault, you know you have to insert your card...' Payment works the second time. I ordered delivery from Cherie Bistro and upon initial inspection the pastas looked rather plain and bland. After quickly sampling the pasta dishes I was unimpressed - however when I sat down and began to truly taste the food and it's flavours it became apparent that Cherie Bistro had mastered the art of less is more. Although the pasta does not appear to be special it's in the subtle flavours where they earn 5 stars. It's not necessarily a meal that you would be impressed with if you scoff it down - rather it requires you to take the time to look for the great composition of their dishes. Definitely worth a try but don't suggest it if your starving like I was initially - you'll miss out on the little things that make this place great. read more

Tried it 3 times, having 3 different dishes, to convince myself to add it to the rotation of restaurants my friends and I go to since it's very conveniently located but it was just not up to scratch. First off, the service was variable; we had a friendly waitress the first time, the second time we had another waitress that was a bit aloof but did the job and the third time we had a waiter who obviously hated his job and gave off a negative body language and a bit of an attitude that was off putting. When it came to the food, I tried two salmon plates (one pan-seared and the other blackened salmon) and one pasta with smoked salmon (it's called seafood delight, I believe) in my 3 visits and they all had one common denominator; the portions were less than filling! In terms of taste, I'd give the 'seafood delight' pasta a 6.5 and the 2 salmon plates a 5, at best.The fish in the salmon plates had literally no taste (had to douse it with lemon just to give it some flavor), was very dry and the sides were a haphazard assortment of grilled vegetables and your pick of rice/fries/mashed potatoes, all piled precariously on silly little rectangular plates. The pasta, while a bit better (mainly thanks to the flavor the smoked salmon gave it as it was otherwise very plain), was nothing I'd want to repeat either. Think airplane food and you wouldn't be far off; I make better pasta at home, and I can barely cook! Even their soda is flat and has no fizz whatsoever. So, to conclude, if you have functioning taste buds and appreciate a consistently good, friendly service, look elsewhere! read more

1. Kale salads need to be chopped with stems removed 2. Please check your avocados to ensure they're ripe and edible before putting on a salads 3. Instruct your waitstaff to ask how the food is soon after serving it. When no one asks for 15 minutes it's pretty frustrating when there's an issue 4. When a customer sends a meal back, ask if they want something else- don't leave them sitting there hungry 5. When you offer a dessert in compensation, please ensure your chocolate mousse is not served frozen solid. 6. At all times there needs to be someone in charge at a restaurant. First our waiter told us he was in charge and then when pressed we had a hostess tell us that the manager had the night off (on a Saturday?) and the owner had "just left" 7. Thanks for taking the salad off the bill and being really nice about the whole thing even though it took 30 minutes and a number of phone calls to get permission to do so. 8. We went to Cherie Bistro to celebrate a birthday during Sunday brunch. Although it was busy we didn't have to wait any time for a table as the staff moved 2 tables together for us. My friends and I really like this place. The entrées that we have had so far are very good and represent good value. But the desserts are to be missed entirely. Last night I ordered a chocolate mouse and it was solid. It was good but it was a solid block. I only had a couple of bites and my friends tried it with mixed reviews. Mentioned it to our waiter and didn't get an offer to take it off the bill even though I had left most of it behind. This is the second desert I wasn't fussy about (tiramisu). Ordered from UberEats. The Cherie Bistro staff put the fish/salad/fries in a cardboard pizza box; they were a mixed soggy mess when they arrived. The quesadilla and the veal were missing from the order. The app menu had an option to leave the croutons from the Ceasar salad; they got this right; the dressing and lemon wedge were separate and the romaine was light and fresh; properly prepared and delightful. Unfortunately, the 3 of us paid a lot of money for a wonderful Ceasar salad. We still can't believe someone thought to put a meal in a cardboard box! So, if you have all day to order again to provide a meal for the guests whose dinner was MIA, and go through the UberEats process of getting a refund in a week, by all means, order from The Cherie Bistro. We will not be ordering, visiting, or considering this place again. As far as we are concerned, the staff disrespect the customer and the business when they don't even check to see that what is on the order is what leaves the restaurant in a way that will do the restaurant proud.
